  1. I just received an email from k-mart, the catalogue will be available online from the 24th. They said to just print off the toys you want to layby for Christmas and then take it to the lay-by counter and you're done. Like many others I think they'll get the Tantive IV as well, there aren't too many choices left for the exclusives, although I haven't heard of anyone stocking the winter toy shop, so maybe that will be Target's exclusive.
  2. Toyworld Adelaide has it for $6 if that's any help. Looked like pretty fresh stock too so maybe toyworlds around the country just got more in.
  3. 7950 Knights showdown is available at toyworld Adelaide for RRP of $12.99, no sign of either the new train sets, any other kingdoms sets or collectible minifigs though.
  4. It has been reported on brickset that toyworld are having a sale starting tomorrow with $30 off their passenger train exclusive, bring it down to $199. Also they have 3 collectible minifigs for $10 (if they have any in stock that is).
  5. If you can get to a Target they have a very cool small space police set for $12 I picked up last night, well worth it, I think it's in their catalogue so David Jones will price match. They also have Lego Space Police Undercover Cruiser at big discount, but from the pics I've seen and reviews I don't think it's one of the best Space Police sets. I also own the 5973 hyperspeed pursuit which if you can handle all the stickers is a great set, two solid and highly "swooshable" ships. Until a couple days ago it was on special for $60 at toys r us, (RRP $80) but if anywhere has a general % off sale you might get a good price, although it's getting a little harder to find. Good luck!
  6. I think we can guarantee over-sized croissants and I reckon a gingerbread man is a chance as a tile, hopefully printed and not a sticker. Remember Harry Potter sets have tiles printed as chocolate bars. How big would an apple pie be if it contained about 10 lego apples, now that will be big.
  7. Tony I'd suggest the Prince of Persia, The Fight for the Dagger set. I own this and it is a really solid build with play features and looks good on display. It's $50 RRP, this weekend Toys r Us have 20% off full priced toys if you spend $100 or more, I think you need to print a coupon (see Aussie sales thread or lasoo.com.au). Also if you spend over $70 on lego you get a free chrome stormtrooper (while stocks last). Also Toys R Us have Lego City Helicopter And Limousine Pack for $40 if that's your thing (already discounted so don't need voucher but would count to free stormtrooper). Which city are you in, because people might be able to help out with local deals.
  8. That's fantastic! Why didn't you share this with us sooner, oh right, you only joined up this year. I think I remember a competition like that held here, which I'm sure you would have done well at as well. You might want to search the Watto Junkyards sub-forum of the star wars forum to see what other star wars/steampunk creations are around.
  9. This isn't the case in Adelaide at least. There were a few toy story, power miners and technic sets with 30%+ discounts there but no general toy discount.
  10. What no Socceroos? PS welcome to another Adelaidean. If you haven't seen the Aussie Sales thread, check it out here Aus sales
  11. Thanks for the pics Whung. Unlike most others I don't mind the look of the ISD, and it's one way to make this set affordable while still having way more play potential than mini sets do. As for the shuttle I think it looks great and I can't see any other options to have the cockpit piece (at least for the top) as one big piece. However, the scale of it just means that it won't fit in with any of my other SW lego as I don't collect UCS sets, so play value is minimal and it's not really as stylish a ship as say the MF, or any of the TIEs they made into UCS sets so it isn't one I'd want to just display on its own. The AT-AT looks perfectly acceptable and I'm sure it will sell well to those without an AT-AT but like many have said it is strange to be released what I assume will be immediately after the power functions set and around the same price mark. Anyway, I have the PF so I'll pass on this one as well.
  12. There is a review on shop at home where someone said they bought 30 and got 30 skaters (not sure if this is someone from US or not, were purchases always limited to 5 figs?). I guess those that are getting all cheerleaders or zombies are keeping quiet for fear of having divers and crash test dummies thrown at them.
  13. If you are in Sydney, a Eurobricks member (Notorious guf) is trying to sell one for $500 firm, that he's happy to deliver for free in Sydney metro area. He says he doesn't want to post but maybe he'd reconsider if you're happy to have it deboxed or even shipped in say two lots to reduce size. All you can do is ask. He posted his email address: mc_guf@hotmail.com I hope you can get it. Cheers Hewman
  14. I was more referring to staff. Slightly more upmarket department stores in Aus seem to have a lot of staff in their 20s. And if it's young mums shopping there, there's nothing wrong with some innocent flirtation to boost your confidence and social skills. Anyway on topic, the bottom line is as most people have pointed out, enjoy who you are and those that judge you for having such a peaceful, creative hobby are the ones with the problem.
  15. Once you hit your 20s or older, buying lego can be a great way to flirt with pretty girls at department store toy sections, or so I've been told. It shows you have a sense of fun and are comfortable in who you are.
  16. Glad to be of service! If I didn't already have one I would have got the Battle of Alamut set there (I was even tempted to get a second), which I bought due to someone's fantastic MOCs with parts of it (cough Svelte). The other thing is with toys that are in their top 100 for sales at BN you always get 10% off. Now if they only stocked the Death Star which it's taken me two years to decide I really wanted, I'd be in heaven. I'm not sure if I can wait until September for those kingdoms impulse sets, they look like the two best impulses ever to me.
  17. Just a couple words about this site, make sure you tick that you don't have to pay UK tax, it saves a lot, however it's more than made up for with the very expensive postage. In other news, I've just been to Toys R Us Adelaide, there were plenty of the modular fire stations, so hopefully there'll still be plenty available on the weekend when you can get 20% off. They had no swamp speeders even though they're in the catalogue, and no place on the shelf for them either. No collectible minifigs but plenty of $4.99 impulse sets from last year. Not much else new there but they seemed to have a full range of toy story sets including duplo.
  18. Yeah, the one with big lego stickers on the side, I thought the other guys were offering an alternative (albeit a more expensive one). The new train station has made an appearance in Myer Adelaide. Box feels pretty heavy, I might consider when reduced from its $80 RRP. Lightningtiger, I look forward to your train station review.
  19. I agree with that. I also think there's plenty left for the Indiana Jones line to do and it was just put on hiatus for a year for Prince of Persia (well I hope so anyway). It's definitely time for some more medical city sets. Also maybe the farm line will get another year.
  20. Although they might claim $99 is discounted price so won't give 20% off. The drive to Gepps Cross might offset my savings, and I'm not sure an hour or more of my time driving is worth $10 on the weekend. But thanks for the info guys!
  21. Thanks for the toys r us news guys. Has anyone seen the Lego truck in stores here yet? I was thinking the toys r us sale might be a chance to grab one at 20% off (if I can work out what else to buy to get it to $100).
  22. 1. No, it's all about the models 2. Individual appeal 3. Anything ancient Greek or Roman, a cathedral with all those trans colours for stained glass windows would be beautiful, I also like the Big Ben suggestion someone made 4. I'd love a land based Pirate set, with a tavern, basically I'd buy any huge pirate set that wasn't 100% Imperial (then again if it was as impressive as the imperial flagship I'd get it), also anything that can work with the Medieval Market Village would be brilliant. 5. I'd love a steampunk theme and finally it's brilliant that this line of bigger sets is continuing, so thanks for some brilliant models and I look forward to more!
  23. thanks for asking this, a great question I always find it interesting that people talk of piece counts to compare set sizes (I guess this is because Lego like advertising them all over the boxes). Anyway, I like to go by weight, and in this case bricklink lists 7946 as 1.97 kilos while the 7094 is 2.66 kilos, so that's why there's such a huge difference. Besides some bigger wall pieces as mentioned before there are also a lot of small pieces in 7946, ie 64 light grey 1 x 1 bricks, and 20 red cheese slopes (these slopes look nice but add nothing to the size). Anyway, I'm very glad I own the 7094 but I think I'll pass on the 7946.
  24. While looking at the review index for the classic space sets I couldn't help but notice the absence of a review for set 918 known as one-man spaceship or Space Transport. Below are pics of my set that I've had since 1979. I've tried to hard link pics in but didn't work, so for now it's just links First the front/top of the box Now the back showing the alternate models Pic 2 And if you open the box, there's a surprise, the back of the inner box contains a landing platform to land your ship on, obviously I didn't do this often given the condition of this 30 year old box Pic 3 Here's a shot of the instructions, which actually incorporated a pic of this set displayed with a few other sets Pic 4 Now we get along to some of the unique and interesting parts of this set. The 1 x 4 grey brick is a stove top brick that serves as a control panel, this was the only set it was available in grey, I believe some homemaker sets had it in white. Then there are the LL 918 bricks, obviously only available in this set, a 33 3 x 6 slope with classic space logo and some nice trans-yellow pieces. If you look very closely you can see that the minifig has the original thin chin strap which was discontinued I believe because it was too fragile however I never had one crack on me as a child. Pic 5 The build is really very simple, the basic structure is a 4 x 8 plate with a bunch of (10) 45 2 x 2 inverted light frey slopes and a few plates. Pic 6 If we flip it upside down you can see that this was before the days of L-shaped plates, instead they had to use 1x1 and 1x2 plates. Pic 7 Now the ship starts to take shape Pic 8 And finally it's complete Pic 9 And the bonus shot with a few of its friends I've managed to build over the last few years thanks to bricklink. We have the batman 918 (bat fin at back chopped from photo), the light grey 918, the medical 918, the Blacktron 1 918, the original and still the best, and finally the blue 918. Pic 10 For the simple parts available at the time, the designers produced a very sleek and stylish ship. Some stats and scores: Design: 10/10 Pieces: 81 Price: about $15 AUD in 1979, which is probably the equivalent of at least $50 and up to $100 now. So for all those that complain about today's prices, it was a lot more expensive 30 years ago, this meant every set I had got played with over and over again. Nostalgia value: 10/10 Build: as a young child it was great, it was very difficult to make a mistake, as an AFOL the build is ridiculously simple. Swooshability: the perfect swooshable size for all ages! Trivia: I believe this wasn't available in North America, hence the insane price for such a small set now.
  25. I've just been to Target TTP (SA) tonight and they did have about 30 or so collectible minifigs there. I got the last nurse (a gift for a mate's daughter) but besides that there was every other fig except the cheerleader, there were even two zombies. Also at TTP Toys 'r' us they had the long discontinued squidman's pitstop ($70), the largest speed racer set (apparently reduced from $140 to $99). And for Star Wars fans I discovered 2 copies of the rare 8091 swamp speeder ($50 or was it $59.99) put in a strange spot and out of view. If you want to know where they are, send me a PM. Also a couple of reduced agents sets (but not that big a discount).
