Buying licensed minifigs through bricklink
Mercury replied to Mercury's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the reply! The minifigs I'm looking at are pretty cheap on bricklink. Like around half the price of Amazon or Ebay. I've bought individual minifigs off Amazon, but at around $12 a pop it adds up quick. Vision cost me around $17 or so. Right now I'm wanting Red Skull but I don't care to spend $20 on the set, because like most Avengers sets I don't like the set at all. I can get all three figs off bricklink for 60% of the cost. It's funny, I absolutely LOVE the Avengers minifigs, but the sets are lukewarm to me. I do have an Amazon gift card I need to burn right now, and there are some other figs and sets I could get for the $50 I have burning a hole in my pocket. -
I'm pretty new to the AFOL world, and after collecting for a couple months now I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just be buying individual minifigs through bricklink. Buying sets is getting expensive, and bricklink prices look really good. Are these sellers reliable? I am looking for New condition minifigs with their respective accessories, basically pulled from the sets. Some sets I like(Green Lantern vs Sinestro was awesome) but most of the Avengers sets I don't care to have, I just want the figs. Is buying from bricklink sellers a good way to do this? Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find a thread close to what I wanted to ask.

Chromebook is great, but you can't install LDD on it, take my word for it. I use one every day. I have to pull out my real PC to use LDD when I want to. I'm of the opinion that if you can't afford the PC at the moment, just begin building with whatever Lego you have. I've done a small amount of MOC'ing just on a whim and it turns out fine. With my small collection as it is(less than 3k bricks) I don't have enough to do anything I really want to do. I guess I should stop dreaming about that huge Pirates MOC...at least until I can buy more of the bricks I need for it!

Favorite/Least favorite/most wanted licensed minifigure?
Mercury replied to Zoshi's topic in LEGO Licensed
Being pretty new to being an AFOL, my list is short. I only own about 30 minifigs, mostly licensed. Out of my collection, my favorite is either Green Arrow or Vision, but I really do like most of them. My least favorite is Hydra Henchman(white pants). I really like all my other Avengers minifigs except that one. It's just such a boring design. Out of the existing minifigs, I really want Red Skull or Deathstroke the most, and I'm likely going to get them soon. I really dig all the Supervillain minifigs. As for one I'd like to see made? That's easy, Arsenal/Red Arrow, and Felicity Smoak. I know Arsenal is a CC exclusive but that doesn't count for me. I'm not paying over $100 for a minifig simply because TLG decided to make it exclusive to one event I can't possibly go to. If he was included in a set and I just missed the boat due to dark ages, that's one thing, but this one was released this flippin year and it's impossible to find it reasonably priced. Therefore, it doesn't exist to me.- 25 replies

I barely have room for a couple displays, let alone boxes. I don't save any of them. I do, however, save all my instructions in a binder.

I know this is a bit of a thread necro, but I felt I had to comment. As a longtime fan of Swiss Army Knives and Multitools, I am no stranger to niche market fandom. I am a longstanding member of a forum dedicated to these things, and I have seen threads nearly identical to this one every year. Just replace "Lego themes" with "Leatherman Designs" or "Victorinox ideas" and the question is always the same. One thing the OP always forgets to take into account is he/she is part of a VERY small group(relatively speaking) that likes the given product. With Leatherman, our site was on the radar, but as far as opinions/sales percentage ratio is considered, we were pretty heavy on opinions with not a whole lot of sales to back us. Roughly translated, that means that while this forum is important to TLG, just like all AFOL's are, the opinions of Eurobricks members simply cannot influence TLG's overall approach to their business on a day to day basis. It just isn't feasible, they'd be running around like headless chickens and not pleasing anyone at all. If Leatherman listened to Multitool.org forum members on every topic, they'd have gone under a long time ago. They figured out how to build multitools cheaper and sell them to more people, and it may not please every enthusiast, but sales don't lie. Lego is still a toy, and the primary target is and always will be children, not adults. While they do target us, they are counting on our children to push us to buy them sets and that is how Lego got where they are.

I just grabbed my first PAB cup yesterday. I took my son to the Lego store in Austin, it was his first time going. I had intended on getting 76034 for myself because I want the Deathstroke minifig, but I ended up spending that allowance on some build-a-minifigs that my son picked out, cause he's such a good kid I had to do it. Nevermind the fact that he has more Lego at age 7 than I ever had growing up, and I've already bought him 4 more sets for Christmas. So I settled on having my first PAB experience. I got the small cup and ended up with around 400 pieces. I got 200 1x1 round plates in green and black, a bunch of black 1x2 bricks, a few green and brown 2x6 plates, and around 30 each white and black 1x4 plates. I was just giving it a go, snagging the pieces I thought might come in useful down the road, as I only have around 2,000 pieces at the moment. I hope to get a few more sets for Christmas, and I will be back to the Lego store to grab some more PAB cups soon. Thanks for all the tips on packing these cups, I will do better on my next haul.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I'm having a blast, I've gotten all of the Avengers Age of Ultron Minifigs, and 4 of the sets from that movie including the Hulkbuster, which I display along with the minifigs. I am branching out into TLM minifigs, and modular sets too. I'm looking hard at the Parisian Restaurant and the Detectives office. I love those sets, very detailed and interesting.

EB Members Trading Collectable Minifigs Portal
Mercury replied to WhiteFang's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hello all! I know I'm pretty new around here, but I've been lurking for a while and getting to know Lego in general. I started by collecting minifigs, and that's been fun. I haven't delved into the CMF portion of the hobby yet though, until today when I was at TRU with my kiddo and I saw the Series 14 polybags at the register. I snagged two of them, deciding it would be fun to be surprised. I was wrong! I got the Zombie Cheerleader and the Fly monster and I don't like them. Considering I'm not a complete-ist in any way, I only want Minifigs and sets I like, so I'd like to trade these two for something else. I am really liking a lot of the Lego Movie minifigs, so any of those would be fine, but I'm completely open to offers. The two I'm trading are assembled, as I briefly considered displaying them. They come with their stands too. I've owned them for approximately 8 hours. PM me with offers. Like I said, I know I'm a really new face, but I'm trustworthy. Head over to Multitool.org's forum, I'm "Mercury" over there too and I manage the forum store. I have over 8,000 posts in 6 years, and I'm a respected member of that forum. I look forward to many trades here!! Sean -
Are you a Lego building masochist?
Mercury replied to Cyanide-Tipped's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Once I have a set, I simply must build it. And I do like to use the numbered bags, but with smaller sets I don't see the need because the hunting for the correct piece is part of the fun as well. I just don't like the idea of building a 1000+ piece set with everything dumped out because I would worry about losing parts. -
Loved this game, in fact I've been thinking of building a diorama based on it. Can't wait to see your Jackdaw when it's done!

Absolutely stunning. There are no points that I can find to criticize, though I'm not even qualified to do more than drool over this! You've inspired me to get off my lazy butt and design a diorama myself. I had been planning to do a lakehouse condo like mine, but that's boring. I'm looking into tropical scenes now, thanks!!

I bet!! That's what I'm worried about, a rare Superhero cracking or something.

Technically it's Jurassic World Indominus Rex Breakout for me. My son asked for it for his 7th birthday last month so we bought it for him. I'm 30 years old, and having been out of LEGO since about 14 I was way out of the loop. I sat down and spent about 3 hours building that set for him, and I felt like a kid again. He got two more Jurassic World sets for his birthday from grandparents, and I had those built tootsweet. I showed him how to follow the instructions and he started tearing them down and rebuilding, now he's addicted. These sets were his first LEGO. I had an inkling that I wanted to get into LEGO again, but my wife and I have become very frugal people and it seemed silly to me. Then I saw the newer minifigs and thought I might just decide to collect those, and I began with a few Harry Potter's, but it really took off when I bought the Avengers Age of Ultron set 76029 Iron Man vs Ultron. I knew right then I had to have at least every minifig in that series, and in acquiring these minifigs, I have bought nearly all the Age of Ultron sets and I decided that I loved building way too much to ignore it. "Normal" be damned, I like LEGO and I'm not ashamed of it! I have all three versions of Ultron, Iron Man MK45, nearly all the sentries and officers, and the Scarlet Witch. I also just finished paying for 4 of the 6 sets in the series, they will be here next week. I'm having a ball!

Sorry to be late to the party here, but this is incredible. Avengers AOU is what is getting me out of my dark age, as we speak. I started by trying to just collect minifigs, but that spread to sets rapidly, now this inspires me to attempt my own MOC. I think I need to visit a LEGO store...

I agree with the above post. I highly doubt that TLG would produce parts that were highly susceptible to chemical breakdown in the element they were designed for, which is the sweaty, oily, grimy hands of little kids. My son rarely has sparkly clean hands, and he plays with his Lego sets all day long. Whatever is on that 7 year olds hands gets on the bricks and minifigs. TLG meant for him to play with his Lego like that, same as they did for me 25 years ago when I got my first set. I can't remember any of my Lego Minifigs ever cracking, and I played with them all the time. I also can't remember any printing coming off unless it was worn off with friction ie the minifig sliding across the floor or something. I only recently became an AFOL, and these types of threads are making me paranoid. With the amount of cash I have been and am prepared to invest in my minifig collection, I am ultra wary of breakage and wear. I always wash my hands and make sure they are as clean as possible before I handle my minifigs, but I can't avoid handling them, they are too cool! I don't plan on ever selling them, I am buying them for myself because I like them. My son likes them too, we are doing this together. I am not one of those fathers who won't let his son touch the "special" toys. He gets to hold every minifig I buy, as long as his hands are clean. He knows that mine aren't for playing with in the traditional sense, but I wouldn't dream of not letting him hold whatever awesome new fig his daddy just bought. He is enthralled with them. I guess if cracks or wear happen to mine, then I'll have to buy new ones.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I'm having a blast reading the forums. I've realized I don't have the money to collect everything I want, but I sure am enjoying picking up what I can afford. I checked out bricklink, that looks promising. Ebay has been my primary source until now. Right now I'm focusing on just the Avengers Age of Ultron minifigs, and after I get all of those I will rest(my wallet) a bit and maybe start on the Lego Movie set or something. These minifigs are so much more detailed than they were when I was a kid, it's amazing.

My name is Sean, and I've just rediscovered LEGO. I grew up in the 80's and 90's playing with Lego, specifically the Castle sets and a few others that I can't remember. I gave my whole collection to a cousin when I turned 18. Stupid, I know. My son turned 7 this year and asked for the Lego Jurassic World Indominus Rex Breakout set for his birthday. I had so much fun building it and the two other sets he got that I decided to start reading online about AFOL's and making myself feel better about wanting to buy toys at the age of 30! I have discovered that I have an interest in collecting minifigs, and I've started buying some that I like. I grabbed a few Harry Potter minifigs off Ebay the other day, along with a President Business from the Lego Movie. I can see myself buying sets down the road, but as I found out today my son LOVES anything LEGO I buy, so we are sharing. I picked up Iron Man vs Ultron set 76029 today because I wanted Ironman. Needless to say, my son ended up with the ship and one of the sentry minifigs because he's just so darn adorable I couldn't keep it to myself. Tonight has been expensive, I decided that since the set I bought today didn't come with Ultron, I really need Ultron. All three versions. So I bought them, each listing claims they are authentic Lego, so we'll see. All the others I have bought are authentic. I'm tossing around the idea of picking up a few more Age of Ultron Minifigs, but I have to sell some stuff first! I'm considering getting a few sets for Christmas(as a gift from my wife of course!), and I have a few ideas. Anyone have any tips on collecting minifigs? I think I'm going to focus on some current production stuff that I know will become rare down the road, like the Age of Ultron rare minifigs. You know Ultimate Ultron and the Vision will be hard to find cheap in a few years. Anyway, I look forward to years of discussion and learning, thanks for reading!
