  1. Coincidentally, a couple of days ago I experimented with PFing... PFifying... erm, converting my 7740 to PF. Of course it's easy to fit the battery box inside, modifying the roof a little to allow space for the plug(s) and access to the power switch. I tried with the IR receiver inside the back cab, and signal reception (with fresh batteries in the remote, if that matters) through the windows was actually quite okay, though not equally from all directions and distances; so I'll modify that roof part too to make a hole for the receiver. What I noticed (and remember having read before somewhere): In curves, the motor cable may, well, not really get stuck, but move not that smooth on tha underside of the baseplate - modern baseplates have a smooth surface there, the old ones don't. Also, the old wheels have more friction than the new ones. Not a problem for shorter trains, but I had traction problems pulling 4 or more classic coaches; adding some more weight to the engine helped a bit with 4, but since I want to run that train with 7 or 8 coaches, I better use 2 motors... seems to barely work with added weight for better traction, though I just tested that temporarily and didn't put the weights inside – nor put all the cables in a neat place, for that matter. Best choice for me, I guess, is to swap all the wheels for new ones and maybe get new magnets since they seem to be a bit stronger than the old ones, too (and they occasionally came loose, mostly between engine and first coach when the acceleration was too big for the coaches' friction).
  2. Really a nice vintage-style tram, and certainly a good addition to your street. (But are there no passengers inside?)
  3. Well, I'm not an expert here, but Wikipedia tells that steam locomotive drivers often suffered from rheumatism because they often had to lean out of their cabs for better visibility. Personnel is often allowed to do things that passengers aren't (and hopefully better aware of what's dangerous and what's not). :)
  4. Great train with great animations! For the last car: I don't think it would look bad if you keep the black baseplate and just turn the black parts above it into red...
  5. Nice cemetary with a nice variation of tombstones. Though maybe the big black fence is a bit too, well, big and obtrusive for a cemetary this size?
  6. Thanks for the new version! I finally got time to have a closer look at it, and so far everything works fine. You did a good work on the flex track handling and its movement and tolerances – for instance, what I plan to use in my future layout to get parallel tracks just 4 studs apart, I can successuflly use 8 flex pieces to swivel a track 4 studs to the side and still fill a full 32-stud length, connecting it to the next regular track piece that's aligned with all the others.
  7. Really a nice layout you got there, with lots of busy citizens. I just think that the black parking lot is a bit too dark and I would have used dark gray, but that's just my personal taste.
  8. Great! You put a lot of nice details and "damages" into this set.
  9. With an official release in January (as that Polish catalogue said), I guess your hopes have a chance of coming true...
  10. Looks nice! I've used this in smaller sizes for splashing water/small waves in one color only, but this way in multiple colors (and with the "window tool") seems really promising...
  11. Just saw an original sticker sheet of 6399 offered for 130€ on ebay. Anyway, I don't own any, but there might be space for a short track in my planned city, so maybe I'll get some parts or one of the sets (and MOC the outer part of the train anyway) when the price is right not too wrong... or I just build my own probably unpowered system.
  12. Last time I checked (two weeks ago IIRC) – and ever since it became available – Kaufhof (not just in Munich) had 3677 for a few cents below 140€ with a crossed-out wrong original price of 170€ instead of 150€, pretending a higher discount (17.6%) than it actually is (6.7%). But I'd love to get it for 120€... so, supersympa, what was the actual price?
  13. Reviving this old thread to mention that I just noticed that now, one week before October, the motor and the AAA battery box are apparently back in stock in S@H in Germany and some other European countries that I checked, but not in USA. Don't know for how long they have been and will be available, though. At any rate, there's no "x per customer" limit, so I guess they have more than a handful...
  14. Agreeing with the others, these are really great buildings with lots of great details in this not-so-shiny-clean look.
  15. Looking at that small Ninjago snake temple (9440) – and assuming that this part of this image is correct and final –, it rather seems that the reverse side of the brick brick has no vertical grooves at all. Which I'd actually like because it gives at least a slightly different architectural option – though David's interlocking idea would be nice too if there were 1x1 bricks to put at the end...
  16. Looks rather like this cell door , though I can't really see how it's attached.
  17. Guess they were necessary since the poor girls can't turn their hands... A lot of nice elements usable for cities. I'll certainly get some of these sets for mine – for instance, the café fits nicely in a park or on a beach, and the beauty shop makes a good ground floor of a modular house; maybe also the vet without the horse stable. Now if Poland gets these sets in April (=kwietnia according to Google Translate; stycznia=January, by the way), there's not much hope we'll get them sooner elsewhere, or is there...?
  18. The big department stores in the city center – especially Karstadt between central station and Karlsplatz (Stachus), and Kaufhof at Stachus –, are always worth a look for discounted items, but of course it's also a matter of luck (for instance, once I got "Woody's Roundup" for 19€ instead of ca. 50€ which made it a good parts pack). There's also a toy shop on the other side of the Stachus, and if you don't have a Toys'R'Us near you, there's one just a brick's throw away from the Oktoberfest. Though it might be a bit odd to take a big Lego set into a Wiesn tent.
  19. Sorry for laughing, but Backspaß is "baking fun", something I hope you won't see on or do with your keyboard. Interesting find, though. Still hoping some sets like the café will be useful for City-building...
  20. Nice station with nice interior! You won't be able to build it with real bricks in this color, though – unless Lego starts producing all those parts in Nougat, that is, but for now, there are especially no plates or tiles...
  21. Great cars!
  22. Thanks for the nice review! And just as I finished reading it, a mail from Amazon.de arrived advertising advent calendars... Now while I think it's good to have a review as early as possible, I think it's too early to advertise them; but hey, the hot part of the summer ended around here last weekend, and who needs late summer and autumn, let's start Christmas season! Anyway, the mail featured the new Star Wars calendar, last year's calendars, and non-Lego ones. And a link to more which included this City calendar, too; both 2011 calendars are for pre-order for Oct 5, though. Well, I'll probably get it sometime in December when it's discounted (or should I wait until after Christmas when a local shop usually offers the last ones they have left for 50%?), since there's not that much in it that's useful to me...
  23. Well, I could imagine a 1/3 higher price for a "special" modular, i.e. 200€ instead of 150€ (for this one only, the following going back to the usual price and size), which should allow a 48-wide building with the typical depth of about 16 studs and a height similar to the FB or GE with a small tower/bell/clock/whatever higher up. This wouldn't be really huge, but still noticeably larger than the normal houses – and large enough for the price. On the other hand, if it's smaller, I guess quite a lot of us will consider buying two anyway.
  24. Now that's an amazing harbor, with all the sets working together so nicely, and an amazing layout plan! I guess you'll (have to) leave many baseplates empty so you're able to walk around and reach every part of the layout... but will what looks like a mountain in the lower left corner be the only height variation, or do you plan more variety in this regard, maybe hills and a waterfall for one of the rivers? At any rate, I'm now feeling a bit less megalomaniac over the top whatever with my own future plans (which I'll show in due time) filling less than half the area of yours...
  25. Nice review – that I apparently missed when it was new; a few days before that, I happened to get this set (assembled, no box or instructions) on a flea market for 12€ since it may be useful for part of my planned beach/lake promenade. I agree that it looks too pale overall – and also that red flower contrasts too much. Don't all games work such that the dealer wins in the end? :)
