This is so cool. I was just admiring this very tile the other day as I was putting the final touches on my wall art. This might be my favourite tile.. right up there with the blue wizards scroll. Soooo cool to see it in full scale.

Another Piece of Wall Art, but this time Pirates 1!
mitchlt replied to mitchlt's topic in Pirate MOCs
I definitely batted the idea back and forth, organizing it in chronological order, but in the end chose not to (just like I chose not to for the space piece I did). The only real reason is because it gets a bit repetitive on a number of the rows- you could have 5 pirates in a row with striped shirts, for example. I wanted it to be a big scramble. On a side note; It's always fun when friends come over and they can look back to the ones they had as a kid and then count the time back as well. -
Another Piece of Wall Art, but this time Pirates 1!

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I could stare at the old pirates forever. The expressions and colors are just classic. I want to take a stab at classic castle next. Some of the first series ones are really cool! -
Pirates... the Lego theme that in my mind is equally as cool as space but for completely different reasons. Where space has the transparent colors, and the cool objects that let your imagination run wild, Pirates have character! ... and what better way to capture the character then another piece of wall art! For this build, just like my last, I used the Ikea Ribba frame, which I established early on to have more than enough room to hold 1 of all of the classic pirates from the Pirates 1 series. In fact, I even had a little extra room to get creative and make a few scenes. I also decided that I would get away from the boring single color rack and decided to use the green, yellow and blue color scheme that was so popular for the base plates in the early 90s and late 80s. Further, instead of the typical 2x5 pieces used to stack the racks I also decided that I would use something different: trees and barrels. This not only looked better, but also gave me the ability to do more neat things along the way. Lastly, I used base plates for the background, as opposed to construction paper (like so any people do). Anyway, now for the pictures. I hope you all like it! I will try to post some higher resolution pictures in the coming days.

This is really nice. So many great aspects; I especially like the vegetation and beach.

LOL. Classic. And in a valve like response to your question about the possibility of a half life moc episode 3 "we'll keep moving forward. But that doesn't necessarily always mean what people are worried that it might mean." Thanks for the feedback all!

As promised; a whole bunch of new pictures of the Half Life 1 Moc that I first posted back a couple of months ago. The new section I created is from the office portion of the game; a scene I feel like is quintessential to the game and memorable to anyone who played it like I did. I added a few features in particular that i thought stood out: 1. Red fire doors; 2. The vent system that you need to crawl through and always find a head crab or two; 3. A functional, sketchy elevator with a ceiling escape door and of course a ladder in the elevator shaft; 4. An office with all the stuff you would see in the game from the green carpet to bookshelf- this is the same office you need to blow the wall up to access; 5. Wall colors and tile patterns are also the same; and 6. An armoury with lots of half life guns (magnum, shotgun, rifle) knife and a HEV battery. I also took the advice of many of you on here and created new head crabs (credit to a random person on Flickr named Hessianizer- he nailed the headcrabs bang on in my mind). I think both the zombie and stand alone head crabs came out way better and more authentic then the 3d printer could produce. Anyway, here it is with a few scenes from the game! and that's that!

I could not agree more. Well said.

This is solid. Excellent details!

Thanks again for the positive feedback all! Much appreciated. I am still working on the big ice planet theme. It seems to gobble bricks 150 at a time!

This is such good work. There are so many great elements about this build.

I really like what you have done here. Really cool vehicle and scene, the two go perfectly. You also nailed the M:Tron colors real well.

Thanks all! I will debut the big ice planet scene shortly. I am still struggling with a few things on it. Probably will take me another month or two before it is all done. It has gotten pretty large.

Hey all, I wanted to share with you something I put together for my favorite Lego series, Ice Planet 2002. It was the first full custom vehicle I have made that I took some time with. I wanted this vehicle to be as classic looking as possible, minimizing the use of 'new' Lego pieces. I also wanted the Sat Launcher to contain lots of classic IP2K2 things all in one spot. I was able to stuff two of the big rockets on the launcher as well as one of the small rockets (from Deep Freeze Defender) which hides away out of site when the launcher is collapsed. In the front half of the vehicle I took the sliding crane arm from Deep Space Odyssey which would be used to help load and unload rockets when the vehicle would be away from the base. There are tons of other little bits and pieces you will probably recognize as well. Here are some pics! Hope you guys like it. The vehicle under construction: Oy Ya- Happy New Year All!

I am definitely going to spend some time thinking about the headcrab. The 3D printing route is sooooo expensive right now, and it did not come out right the first time, which makes me nervous about a second run (which would require a finished product at least half the size). I have seen a few head crab designs online made completely out of lego pieces and there is one in particular that looks really good that I am working on scavenging the pieces for. Keep you guys posted when I have something a little better.

LOL I thought the same thing when I saw it- how convenient. I also love the tiled floor. So classic, simple to do, but very satisfying every time. Not to hijack my own thread, but I was just looking at that Alien build you did missing brick, that's phenomenal. You seem to have figured out the science of sci-fi facility building. Thanks for all the comments everyone. I hope my next additions are as well received.

Thanks for the comments guys. You are absolutely correct Isundir, the headcrab is very disproportionate and it drives me nuts. It is a bit of a love hate relationship because a half life moc is just not complete without a headcrab, I just have no idea why the scaling of it is so large. I wish I could skip the 3D printer and figure out a way to make it from Lego so the whole thing could be more pure. As for the Gordon Freeman head; I wish there was one right in between what I have on him now and what you have posted. They both have good elements.

Hello all, just finished creating my first full blown custom Moc - custom decals were involved, a bit of paint and even a 3D printer. As you all can imagine I am a big Half Life fan and have been for ages so it only seemed natural to take advantage of the great decals that LuxorV created and give it a shot. I have posted a number of pics below as well as some screen shots from the game itself so that those that have not played can have an understanding of where my color scheme and designs came from. I also have to give credit to some random person on Youtube for the vending machine idea. I was having a bit of a hard time figuring out how to get really close to the vending machines in the game. I have built "Black Mesa" in modular form so that I can continue to expand it. I have one expansion already on the way, but it will take a while to complete since i have a ton of Bricklink orders coming in from all over, and am still a bit stumped for how I want to finish off a few sections. Hope you guys like it!

Why Noah's Ark? The mission here was to put two of every minifig and driod from Lego space (in this case from about year 1999 back to the beginning) into a frame to hang on my wall. I really wanted a big piece of Lego wall art just to look at. IMO Lego has produced such an amazing line of minifigs in the space theme right from the beginning so to have them all in one place to look and celebrate seemed to me like a good idea. The build consists of an Ikea Ribba picture frame, a lot of 2x6 and 1x6 plates, plus other smaller plates that were required to fill in the gaps. I also needed a number of 2x5 bricks to stack the layers of minifigs. I decided early on that I did not just want a frame with minifigs; I thought it would be cool to fill the sides in with tons of trans clear parts from the various sets as well as decorated plates and slopes that have the various set's logos on them. To really make the colors pop out I back filled the rest of the empty places with black space objects. I almost accomplished my mission of having 2 of every minifig and droid (i do have 2 of every droid), but I ran out of room for a couple minifigs. I needed about 6 more spaces. Hope you guys like it, and sorry about the picture in advance, winter is here in Canada and natural light is not in abundance.

Very nice, and also very well timed. Just as I was about to post an Ice Planet MOC I did lol. I will save mine for another week. Love the cockpit and the modern touches you added to this. Looks great! I can never have enough Ice Planet.

Well I have embarked on the half life Moc in a real way. I ordered $150 in lego (which is probably only half of what I need) and I got the clear decal paper from a local hobby shop and printed a run of Barney, Gordon and some scientists. Now if only the 3D printing company would get back to me on the lego head crabs I will be on my way. The only thing I am struggling with now is how I will get white letters to stick on the bricks for some of the wording on the walls frequently seen in black mesa. I may have to find some stickers or something.

Hey, I hit bricklink last night and bought a ton of stuff. I actually managed to find a minifig that is pretty well perfects for the G man design (the harry Osborne minifig from a spiderman series) a bit expensive but I found a perfect head, hair and briefcase too. So I should be covered there. I also was able to get a couple orange torsos which I will experiment with and a plain black one too. I have a feeling the orange will work the best if I am using the clear decals since orange will sit well on top of orange and the black and gray sections should cover the other orange parts well. I will try a few arm and leg combos and see what works the best. I am probably in way over my head, but do you have any good info on how people made the little head crabs? I will need to attempt that too for any serious halflife Moc. That looks pretty darn good. So you used a dark gray torso and legs? And did you use clear decals or white? Do you recall the part numbers for the legs and torso you used? If not I can go on bricklink and figure it out.

This is amazing. I have always wanted to make a half life moc but never knew where to begin. I will have to start doing some reading on what I need for decal printing so that I can make this a reality. Thank you for your efforts here. You are giving hard core half life fans like myself a goal with a means to accomplish it. Any images of a Gordon freeman minifig with your design? Also any thoughts on the torso color, leg color, etc. I should be picking up for the G man and Gordon should I choose to go with clear decals? This will be my first attempt at a custom fig. I am thinking all orange for Gordon because the dark colors will cover it and a blue color for the G man.
