I know the feeling, although it’s usually not for new sets. I have the problem with secondhand bags or boxes with pieces. I have to evaluate if I’m actually going to get any good use out of the pieces compared to the price.

EB's Super Hero Comic Cover Contest Voting Thread!
Runamuck replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
9 by Captain Nemo – 1 point 15 by MstrOfPppts– 1 point 17 Ceroknight– 1 point 9: I guess all that that can be said about the Mad Love cover has already been said. 15: The effect of the figure seen through the window is just great. 17: I like how the eye beams look, and Superman’s expression fits just perfect. -
Ok, thanks for the update, I hadn’t noticed that yet, thanks for remembering this old thread. Also the POTC wiki has a list of all characters present in the various versions on the LEGO video game: http://pirates.wikia.com/wiki/LEGO_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean:_The_Video_Game#List_of_characters I haven’t gone through it yet and sorted it out, but at least there is a rather thorough list.

This is absolutely fantastic! I have for ages wanted to study some of the various old LEGO magazines for information about pirates. In particular I have searched a lot for pirates that were actually named: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50788 It’s nice to see a few more names spread out through these magazines that I haven’t seen before. Maybe I should update my work, I know I’m also missing a few character from some ports of the Pirates of the Caribbean video game. Maybe a few of us could try and work together on a guide to named pirates similar to the “A guide to the Pirates Minifigures” articles complete with sources, fictional depictions and actual figures. I wonder if there is also a place out there that has scans of the Ladybird pirate books.

I have a little pile of comics lying next to me that I have bough, read or used relatively recently. There are the Transformers UK Prey reprint, the Danish version of Transformers US #3 and #4, Marvel G.I.Joe #135, #137 and the 88 Yearbook, a collection of The Captain And The Kids strips, the Lost Adventures and The Promise comics from Avatar The Last Airbender. I have enjoyed all of them. Admittedly the G.I. Joe and Transformers comics are a bit out of context, but still interesting to me. I also liked the Promise comic despite the harsh criticism some fans give it.

I know, Transformers are not superheroes, but this one has a guest star: The Transformers guest starring the amazing Spider-Man! Peter Parker has been sent by the Daily Bugle to investigate a mysterious alien invasion in Oregon. Ever since I found an official figure of Spider-Man I have been toying a bit with this idea in my head, if nothing else than for the photo thread. The contest gave me some actual motivation to translate the idea into proper brick form, even if it doesn’t actually use the Spider-Man figure I found. A little more info on the comic: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Prisoner_of_War%21 A better look at the actual comic cover: http://tfarchive.com/comics/gallery.php?g2_itemId=996

Superman: OK Hulk if you play nice and help us, I will give you this Popsicle as a reward! Hulk: Yummy! Hulk wants Popsicle! Hulk be nice!

I have a few of these bricks because they have occasionally been in some LEGO lots I have bought. They aren’t completely identical to ordinary LEGO Bricks. The bricks do for obvious reasons not have LEGO written on the studs, the mold for the 1x1x1 cylinders are different to the one LEGO uses today, but is pretty much identical to an older version the cylinder without the narrower bottom from the 60’s. The colours are very close though, green and brown are nearly identical, gray is a little darker and light green is a little different from LEGO lime green. I also have some 2x2 plates that are ½ a brick thick rather than the usual 1/3 of a brick. There are also some minor molding differences inside the bricks. No idea about where they were made though.

It seems that Hasbro are denying these rumors. http://news.providen...sbro-stock.html

Ok, let’s start this off with a slightly belated seasons greeting: Happy Halloween from the Melon Lord! Other than that I have mostly been making figures this time. A few firesages. These maiden hats are pretty much perfect for them, but they are quite hard to come by. After having learned that the Firenation has banned dancing, Aang decides to hold a little rebellious dance party. Aang, or should that be Kuzon, is trying to teach On Ji a few dance moves. Katara isn’t too happy about this. The various Firenation school children, among the On Ji. Also Wang Fire. And now for something from the new series. The Order of the White Lotus has been searching the new avatar for 4 years, and their search has led them to Senna and Tonraq’s humble home. Senna: Korra! Korra makes quite an entrance as she bursts through the wall. Korra: I’m the avatar, you gotta deal with it! The Order of the White Lotus. Korra’s family: Tonraq, Senna and Korra herself. The figures are a bit anachronistic, and Senna’s hair is not the ideal piece. Also I have actually gone a little into real spoiler territory, as the clothes that Senna and Tonraq are wearing are from the character sheets from the second book. Personally I don’t find a wardrobe change like this, which is pretty much them just taking their coats of, to be a particularly heavy spoiler, also they might come in hand later. Also I would like to hear some opinions on something: I have tried to improve Ty Lee’s face a little, but I have also found most of a Hitomi figure from the Exo-force line. I think the Hitomi head might work for Ty Lee, but the eyes are kind of the wrong color as they are greenish yellow instead of gray. What do you think works better for Ty Lee?

Anybody who has watched the news lately? Apparently LEGO Friends sells so well, that the production can’t keep up with the demand! http://www.dr.dk/Nyh.../1102073812.htm The article is in Danish unfortunately. I don’t know how well the Lord of the Rings sets are selling compared to that, but this sure sounds like Friends is a massive success. Edit: The article is about the fact that all 2012 themes sell really well, but Friends and Ninja-go are the only ones that are actually mentioned by name. There were also small segments in the TV news on DR1 and TV2 where Friends were highlighted on both channels.

I guess it’s time for the last of the things I have had up my sleeve. The Earthkingdom’s tank. This tank, which seems to take some inspiration from a pillbug, is powered by earthbending. While it is not as flexible as the counterpart on the show, I managed to give it a bit of flexibility both right and left, and up and down. The tank was inspired a bit by the train from 8404. The sides of the tank open. Teo is at the control sticks. The interior is very crammed, but the tank can hold a few passengers if their headgear isn’t too big. A little battle scene based of the invasion from “Day of the Black Sun”, even if the watertribe warriors are missing their wolf armor. Some of the participants of the invasion, the Mechanist, the Boulder, Big Bad Hippo, Bato and Hakoda. A little close up of the tattoo on the Boulder’s back, and Bato’s burned arm. And just for fun: Tank vs. Pillbug, who would win? My Shanix are on the pillbug. Also a little watertribe family photo since I have made most of Katara’s and Sokka’s known family members. I have also made a mixture of regular pictures and light experiments from “The Crossroads of Desteny”: Both Katara and Zuko have been captured by Azula, and are now imprisoned in the crystal catacombs underneath the Earth King’s palace. Despite the fact that Zuko has been tormenting Katara and her friends for about half a year, she can’t help it and feels sorry for Zuko as he tells her about his tragic past. After having rescued Katara, Aang had to fight off Azula and the Dai Li to escape. The battle wasn’t going very well… Aang has encased himself in a ball of crystal as he is trying to get into the Avatar state. It seems to be working… …But disaster strikes… …Aang was killed by Azula’s lightning, everything is lost. Iroh allows himself to be captured so Katara can get away with Aang. And the usual shot of he figures in new clothes. Ba Sing Se has fallen… …so Kuei and Bosco are free to explore the world. Riding of in to the ..uh.. backdrop. A better look at Kuei and Aang’s back. As usual I’m open for suggestions for improvements, and ideas for things to build.

Thanks for the comments. Yes it might be true that GDI might look better in tan (although how yellow or tan they are varies from game to game), but I just don’t have the amount or the variety of bricks in tan to make much of anything. As for my non-perfect decals. I think it stems from the fact that they are all drawn by hand, which I just think is more fun than doing them on the computer. I do hope to continue building more units, but as for making a game…either it would be a very anachronistic army, or I should have focused more on one of the games. As for a LEGO C&C game, you might want to ask Raminator, who earlier in this thread posted about a LEGO mod for Yuri’s revenge.

Time for some new stuff. Sorry, these things are probably a bit spoiler heavy for people who haven’t seen The Legend of Korra. My brother and I have just finished this one: Lightning-bolt Zolt getting his bending taken away. I made the Zolt figure a while ago when I dug out the plasma globe, but I couldn’t get the right kind of lightning effect with that for him. Still, I think I got some good use out of him. And now for something with a bit more brick building. Oh no! The poor watertribe family is about to be torn to shreds by a pack of wolves! This can’t end well… …for the wolves! Bloodbending can make both man and animal bow to your will. A close up of one of the pretty simple and blocky wolves. Tarrlok, his father Yakone and his brother Noatak.

Well, it’s been some time since I last made any CnC MOC’s, but now I’m back with a few more. First up we have some of the few Nod troops I hadn’t yet made from Renegade: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/5659/img1784ks.jpg Here we have the Nod Rocket Soldier Officer, and the Nod Technician: http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Rocket_Soldier_Officer http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Technician_(Renegade) Next up are some more Nod troops: Here we have the Nod Confessor and the Saboteur, both from Tiberium Wars. The reason it took this long to get to the Confessor is that I first had to come up with some way of making their elongated helmet. http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Confessor http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Saboteur_(Tiberium) And now a little cavalcade of Kane throughout the times: http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/624/img1782v.jpg http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/1376/img1779v.jpg http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/710/img1778ub.jpg http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/1760/img1780tz.jpg http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/8048/img1763c.jpg (Yes, the poor, red lighting in this one is very much intentional) http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5706/img1781vk.jpg And because Runamuck likes to experiment a little with light: The Tacitus! This picture is inspired by the intro to the fourth game, Tiberian Twillight, but the less said about that game the better. http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Tacitus Now for some actual MOC’s: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/2329/img1764u.jpg I have finally gotten around to building the last upgrade for the Scorpion tank: The dozer blade. Well, this post has been very Nod centric…let’s crash this party! The GDI Mammoth tank. The ever present mascot of the Command & Conquer franchise. This is the version as it was seen in the very first game, Tiberian Dawn. http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Mammoth_Mk._I Additional pictures: http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/622/img1772xj.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2822/img1774m.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/5206/img1776y.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/8825/img1777g.jpg Well. That’s it for now, we’ll see when I get around to building some more.

It’s nice to hear, it was quite fun to build Appa and Momo from ”Nightmares and Daydreams”. Well, I still have a few things from the archive: A sand-sailer. Complete with a few sandbenders. The yellow cone is supposed to be the little sand tornado they use to propel the sand-sailer forwards with. A better look at the sand-sailer itself, complete with little compass sticker. Sha-Mo, his son Ghashiun and two unnamed sandbenders. And a little shot of Ghashiun and his goons trying to steal Appa. I have posted this one in the photo thread already. I had a red light brick and tried to make a little picture inspired by “The Storm”. I also made a picture of the figures for good measure. Lieutenant Jee, the cook, the engineer and a soldier without armor. I also made a little build for “The Painted Lady”. General Mung and his goons have come to investigate the mysterious events that have happened Jang Hui village and his steel factory. Apparently it’s the local river spirit known as the Painted Lady that has been acting up. The spirit is quite displeased, and is destroying a couple of the Firenation troops’ jet skis. Actually it’s not a spirit at all; it’s Katara who is using a local legend to help the village. While Katara can provide the water effects herself, Aang is helping out with some wind effects too underneath the boards. General Mung and two homeland troops, a swordsman and a firebender. Katara in her disguise as the Painted Lady and two female homeland troops. And for good measure, a better look at one of the 3 jet ski I build. The jet ski does actually seat two, just like on the show. And a little light experiment that I actually haven’t posted in the photo thread: Aunt Wu, the fortuneteller who lives in the Makapu Village, is about to tell this young boy about his future by putting a bone on the fire. Aang’s future is a lot more dramatic than she had expected. A look at Aunt Wu’s room in broad daylight. An additional picture of Aunt Wu, and as a little bonus, her assistant Meng.

Ok, I think it’s once again time for me to dig up some things I built a while ago. All of these things are from the old series. First a simple little vignette: Katara trying to bring some hope back to the spiritually broken earthbenders. The warden is not impressed. I also made a figure of Haru’s mother for good measure. And of course also a shot with Haru’s infamous moustache, oddly enough no one ever seems to mention the goatee. Pictures of the warden in a minute, because I have a different shot first. Long Feng admiring his handiwork. Yes, I have posted this one in the photography thread. Does anyone know if digital cameras can imitate wide angle lenses? Jet’s demise. The warden, and Jet who has gotten some new hair. Sorry about the messy episode chronology, but I’m posting the MOC’s in the order I build them. Katara’s long fingers as cause the group to be chased by pirates, and Aang is doing his best to escape from them. The cabbage merchant is clearly not very happy with his cabbage cart being part of this chase scene. The cabbage merchant and his cart. The pirates. And now for some….slightly trippy stuff. Aang is clearly not enjoying his nightmares and daydreams.

That is kind of a neat build. It reminds me a bit of some of those Micro Machines sets that open or fold out.

MOC: B.I. Joe (Updated with: Fang, Ferret & Armadillo)
Runamuck replied to Athos's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It’s pretty neat to see some G.I.Joe, or Action Force if you’re European, things made in LEGO. I particularly like the Trouble-Bubble. If you are curious it seems like Hasbro will make Kre-O things with G.I. Joe in the near future. I guess that is the closest you can come to an official LEGO version of G.I.Joe. LegoJalex, may I ask why you have Raptor as one of your favorites, it seems like a somewhat odd choice. To quote Cobra Commander on that subject: “This birdbrain is crazier than Dr. Mindender! I’m sick and tired of wackos in funny suits! What do you sleep in? A nest?” The again, I have an odd fondness for him as he was one of my very first figures. -
Since the thread was lost to technical difficulties, I’m once again letting by brother post some of the Ninja Month inspired madness: Well, it seems like the old thread was either lost to the server change or erased by time travelers. I have made some figures from the webcomic The Adventures of Dr. McNinja: http://drmcninja.com/ First off are the figures I have already shown once: Here we of course have Dr. Mcninja himself, and his sidekick Gordito. More figures: Here we have the rest of the McNinja family, with (from left to right) Dark Smoke Puncher, the doctor’s brother, Mitzi, his mother, and Dan, the father. Some bad guys: From Left to right we have King Radical, the most radical man from radical land, Dr. McLuchador, and Mongo the uberninja with his chainsaw nunchuks. However, we also have something new: This of course Agent Bearclaw who is being shot by a dolphin…uh…It makes more sense in context, although not much. Yes the Bearclaw figure isn’t the greatest, but he was only made to be shot by a dolphin anyway. His hair is a bit too light, but at least he’s looking sufficiently psychotic. The other thing is a dolphin built by Runamuck himself, one capable of shooting someone with a gun, that is. Comments and suggestions are welcome as always. Also as it’s no longer exclusively minifigures, I hope is OK that it ends up in the special themes forum again.

Sorry for going a little overboard with posting these things after the forum came back up. I’ll be back to a more sensible way of posting after this one. After seeing the version of the mecha tank that Glenbricker made I decided to overhaul my own version a little. The old model was blocky, fragile and not very articulated, so I decided to keep the basic design, but overhaul all the details. It’s not as brilliant as the version Glenbricker built, but it’s certainly better that the old version. The driver is trying to capture Lin, but unfortunately for him she’s a lot better at dodging than he is at aiming. I have also decided to make my own accessories for the tank, which is handy when you like to make a few action scenes too. Lin can be quite brutal when she fights. You almost feel sorry for the guy inside the tank as she stabs through the window. As the Equalists decide to take over Republic City they start out by taking out the city council and the law enforcement. Basically a better look at the capture device at the end of the wire. Another way of dispatching of the metal bending officers is by capturing them in their armour with a huge electro magnet. And since I have more or less made two of them: While Asami and Bolin were destroying the Equalists airbase Asami was attacked by her own father in a mecha tank. Since Asami had “borrowed” a tank herself they were on equal terms in the fight. Hiroshi lost the fight, and got a taste of his own weapons as Asami captured him with an electrified bolo as he tried to run away. Many thanks to Glenbricker for the motivation and a bit of inspiration, and please check out his Mecha Tank Cuusoo project if you haven’t done so already. Also, since I have brought the biplane out: While Asami and Bolin are destroying the airbase, Iroh is trying his best to destroy the biplanes that had already taken off. As my brother pointed out to me, I had accidentally built in an action feature, a easily detachable tail.

Still trying to catch up on the lost stuff. After having built the two dragons I had some more requests from “The Firebending Masters”. One request was for the room with the Sunstone. Aang and Zuko preparing to do the fusion dance the Dancing Dragon. And Zuko who has clearly never seen “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. A better look at the rather crude statues. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough of the right pieces to make the heads a little more detailed. They remind me a bit of the dancing pixel men from Junior Senior’s “D-D-Don’t Stop the Beat” music video. Another part of the request was some figures of the Sunwarriors. A man, a woman, and their chief. Admittedly the hat isn’t entirely accurate, but it sure is fancy. A better look at the chief’s face. I already posted a couple of picture from “The Cave Of Two Lovers” earlier, but it was not the only thing I build for that episode. “Heh-hey! River people!.” Yes, I thought it might be a fun ide to make the hippies from “The Cave of Two Lovers.” New swimsuits. The hippies: Moku, Chong, Lilly and their…uh…two backup dancers. I guess some …wolfbats or something must have snatched some of their hats. A better look at Chong and Lilly, complete with bags under their eyes. And for good measure the pictures with the moody lighting: Love is brightest in the dark. And let’s end on a lame joke: It’s a Knock out!
-
OK, let’s try to regain what has been lost. Luckily I had a backup of this one. Well, that is kind of a bummer Murdoch because I don’t want to spoil the surprises for people if they are interested in seeing the shows. Since your location sates that you are American, maybe you could try to catch up on some episodes on Nickelodeons website if your web connection is suitable for that. The video archive does have a few episodes of the old series, and I believe they have all episodes of the Legend of Korra at the moment, if you are interested. It’s not that I don’t feel appreciated, it’s just that I feel that if I can’t build anything good enough to generate a response from people it makes me feel a little like I’m spamming the forum a little with my mediocre creations. Thinking about it, making a new thread is probably not any better than just keeping to multipost, but if nothing else the threads can always be fused by the staff. I’m probably just thinking a little too much about this. Speaking of the old thread, any guesses on who the chi-blockers are supposed to look like? Hint: It’s a bit of a joke about the voice acting in one of the episodes. The curve in the edge of the arena is because I, as usual, didn’t quite have enough of the right pieces. Really annoying when you need 6 pieces for each side and you have 5 of one type and about a dozen of those for the other side. I got fed up, and just built with the best equivalent I had available. Yes, you are right; the picture with the Blue Spirit didn’t quite turn out as a wanted too. Well some experiments work and some don’t. Since I’m already talking I may as well post something that I have just built motivated a little by Ninja month. Oh yeah, sorry if this is spoiling things from the series for some people here on the board. The LEGO forum that I also frequent is having a ninja theme month, so here are a few things motivated a little by that: In order to gain team Avatar’s trust Zuko has been helping the various members. In this case he is helping Katara find the man who murdered her mother. About 6 years ago the Southern Raiders made a quick hit and run attack on the Southern Watertribe. Yon Rha, the commander of the Southern Raiders were given the orders to find and kill the last waterbender in the Southern Watertribe. Kya sacrificed herself in order to protect her daughter Katara. Yon Rha learns the truth about the last southern waterbender as Katara confronts him and stops the rain dead in the air. The igloo from the flashback. Yon Rha, Kya and Katara. Zuko, Katara and Yon Rha. And for a bit of extra ninja: Kori all dressed up and ready to try assassinating someone with her meteor hammer.
-
Why do I have an odd sense of deja vu? That mecha tank is simply brilliant! It’s very accurate to the version in the show. Looks very articulated too. The various accessories are a good idea, also neat to include the extra piece to actually attach the figure to the magnet. The idea with the painted canopy piece is good; it’s similar to what you occasionally see on some Star Wars vehicles. The figures are pretty good too, although Amon’s face is a bit too obviously a cut and paste job from a screenshot. The idea of using captain Panaka’s hat for the metalbending police officers is brilliant. Great work, I’d love to see more.
-
I have once again changed my Avatar into Kori Morishita and her meteor hammer. She was from Avatar the Last Airberder: The Promise.
