  1. There are a couple of old threads that might be useful for this topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76762&st=0 This is the thread about audio dramas that Matthias mentioned. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50788 Since you were also interested in making bios for characters this thread might also be interesting, since it almost has that for many, many LEGO Pirates characters. There are also several more official sources that can be found on the net, like comics, or old magazine scans: http://peeron.com/inv/sets/6255-1 http://www.miniland.nl/LEGOclub/lego%20magazine%20lezen%20eng.htm http://www.brickfactory.info/index.html The sites have some interesting things. There are more things out there, but I’m sure there are also other member who could help. TalonCard is an expert at this.
  2. Those are some neat little stories you wrote there. I remember once, somewhat jokingly, turning a little story based on some Robin Hood pictures into a LEGO Castle reference during computer class. But that has probably been lost to the ages long ago.
  3. That is an interesting little story. I haven’t seen that one before. Where did it come from? I have a link for some scans of the LEGO Mania Magazine where Tatoo McGoo, and a few other pirates are named: http://www.miniland.nl/LEGOclub/lego%20mania%20magazine%20mar%20apr%201996.htm McGoo is on page 4.
  4. Those two hats are from the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit sets. http://brickset.com/minifigs/lor013/Gimli http://brickset.com/minifigs/lor086/Lake-town-Guard I think it’s the mold that these two figures have, but in a different color.
  5. Uh, new characters! Nice! It is nice to hear that the governor is a new one. It’s probably easier to portray Governor Hacienda as a heroic figure rather than that old crook Governor Broadside, even if the profile make him sound quite greedy. It’s not surprising that the new captain is the old Captain Redbeard, despite the brown beard. I guess Will has been demoted from Bo ‘sun to cabin boy if the set description is anything to go by. So the Sergent used to be a pirate? Maybe Salty the sailor got a promotion after switching to the bluecoats? I have my doubts that the new Rummy is supposed to be the same as the old one, the looks are rather different, the personality and the occupation doesn’t match, and the eye patch is over the wrong eye. Nice catch though, Jamesster. I have also found some new things on my own; partially thanks to a book I got for Christmas. Crikey the Kraken (LEGO Minifigures Online) Løjtnant Streng (LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie) http://brickset.com/minifigs/pi064/Imperial-Soldier-Harbor-Sentry And some additional notes to things I posted earlier. Corrections and additions: Bo’sun Will Cavendish French name: Bill (Les pirates le médaillon d’or) First mate Rummy French name: La barrique (The barrel) 6235 Will and Bill are probably the same person Spinoza and Filou are the same monkey Camilla French name: Camille Culverin French name: Hippolyte Captain foul French name: Faucheton? Dark-Eyed Kate Danish name: Mørkøjede Kate Captain Ironhook Danish name: Kaptajn Jernklo Captain Roger Danish name: Kaptajn Rødskæg (LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie) Admiral Valentina Admiral Valentina is most likely the commanding figure of the new Imperial Flagship, as LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie mentions that the figure is an admiral. Also, the female passenger on the ship is apparently the governors daughter according to the book. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a scan of the French version of the old The Golden Medallion pirate comic?
  6. That is a very interesting question, but also one that is really hard to answer. I don’t think anyone really has a list of all the characters that have been named in various LEGO media. I think we are literally talking about hundreds of charters. Just as an example (and not just for self-promotion) some of us have been trying to list the various characters related to LEGO Pirates: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50788 A long list of characters stars on the later part of page 4, that alone is almost 200 named characters, and that doesn’t include the ones from licensed themes. Listing all LEGO related characters form all themes would be very interesting, but would also require one hell of a lot of work.
  7. I don’t know if lazy filler is the best way to describe it, maybe rather making the best of a bad situation if you want a positive spin on it: http://bryankonietzko.tumblr.com/post/103173899927/a-few-preemptive-words-about-episode-408
  8. Well, after a long vacation, I have finally completed what I said I would do, sorry it took so long. Thank you for the comments. The proportions are much more important to me than trying to smooth out the studs, so I’m really happy to hear that the shape looks right. I’m also happy that the Hunchback was pleasing. I don’t know how I would modify the Kit Fox and the Raven so a figure could sit in them, but I am sure something could be done, as both of them nearly have space for a figure, and they aren’t exactly too large to begin with. I also thought that an Inner Sphere mech (the white one) being shot to pieces was a nice way to introduce my first clan mech. But enough about that, on to the new mechs! First up we finally have a clan medium mech: The Shadow Cat, at 45 tons this is one swift and deadly pussycat. The shadow side of the Shadow Cat. I continue to make the mechs as posable as possible, which is also why I am glad that I finally reached the number of mechs I wanted, as I am really running out of joints of all kinds. And here we have the Shadow Cat with a few other clan mechs for scale comparison. And now we will have a look at my last mech: It’s hammer time! The WHM-6R Warhammer in all of its copyright infringing glory! A friend of mine wanted me to build Warhammer LEGO, but I don’t think this is what he meant. Apparently to Macross fans it is also known as the MBR-04-Mk VI Tomahawk Main Battle Destroid. I can’t say anything about that, since I have never watched or read Macross. Scale comparison. I think it turned out a tad small…oh well. And here we have the entire company, all 12 mechs. I would suggest that people guess who would win, but it’s really not that much of a contest… Well, that’s it! Criticism is as always welcome. It has been quite an experience building these, as they are all quite different. I better end this post here, before I get sued by Harmony Gold.
  9. Thanks for the info. No wonder I couldn’t find it on peeron, they don’t have an inventory for the set it’s from. http://peeron.com/inv/sets/1575-2
  10. My brother found a strange baseplate on a flea market the other day. I tried looking for it on peeron, but I didn’t get any results. I guess it’s from the 60’s or 70’s, and I was wondering if it was a part of something interesting.
  11. This is a really nice build, and for something that is not supposed to be an exact replica it really captures the look of the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat. It would be really nice to see more western themed mechs from LEGO. We have gotten a few but many of those are more transformers-like. Keep up the good work!
  12. Well. I’m back to fill an old request. The Huchback was suggested, and lo and behold, here it is: The HBK-4G, an old workhorse of the InnerSphere armies. This is actually the first medium mech I have built, I have no idea why it took this long. The back of the Hunchback. Now when the suggestion was made, we were talking about clan mechs, so it might actually have been the IIc model that was suggested, but this is the old version. The Hunchback in motion. Just as elegant and balanced as the name suggests. The colour scheme of the Hunchback certainly is a lot less colourful than the other mechs I have built, but it is actually based on existing regimental colours. I hope to be back with another medium mech at some point, maybe I’ll even be able to finish an entire company. I do have 10 out of the 12 required mechs. Suggestions and criticism is always appreciated.
  13. Well, that took an eternity. Sorry for the wait, but exams took most of my attention, but now I am back with another mech. Thank you for the praise, and yes, the Kit Fox does not have any real torso twist in Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries, but it does in Mechcommander, go figure. I knew that Uller was also the god of archery, but pointing out that he was the god of skiing just seemed funnier. When I built the Kit Fox, I thought about going bigger for my next build. It is bigger than the Kit Fox for certain, it is bigger than the Hellbringer too, it is even bigger than both of them combined! Behold, 100 tons of pure death, the Dire Wolf assault mech! This beast is so deadly it was christened the Daishi, or great death, by its enemies. The backside of the Dire Wolf. As always a have made sure to make the Dire Wolf as poseable as I could, which is kind of hard when most LEGO joints tend to collapse under the weight when you build big. The completion of the Dire Wolf also marks the completion of my clan star. Who would win in this clash of the titans? Suggestions and criticism is as always appreciated.
  14. There’s actually a female leader in the Pirates theme, and she is even in charge of her own group of soldiers. Miss Miranda Valentina is in charge of the imperial soldiers in the water ski shows. Admittedly, she is still the admiral’s daughter, but her father is a no-show. You can take a look at it if you want to here: It’s a bit of a tangent, but I think it’s the best we can get in this case.
  15. Thank you for the comment, while I don’t think I will fulfill all your suggestions, they haven’t been ignored. But on to the new mechs: First up is the Hellbringer, also known as the Loki. This was mostly built because 75% of the mech is compromised by parts that can be recycled from mechs I have already built. Also, it makes a great match for the Thor. The back of the Hellbringer. It was really hard to make this smaller than the Thor, which is supposed to be 5 tons heavier. But I can’t fight that the design generally seems larger by default. Bringing hell. But as said, suggestions weren’t ignored: Here we have the Kit Fox (or Uller). I did want to build a clan light mech sooner or later, so this fit right into my plans. Also, with the Thor and the Loki, this means I have built three mechs named after Norse gods (Uller god of…skiing?). The back of the Kit Fox. I had to modify the design of the Kit Fox slightly, as neither drawings, nor the miniatures show any form of joint that allows torso twisting, and it at least does have a joint there in MechCommander (unlike the Nova in MechWarrior 2). Here we have the clan mechs together. I always try to vary the colour schemes at least a little, one in green, one in red, one in blue, and one in dark grey (They weren’t hard to choose with the colourfulness of the great invading clans). Although it was a happy accident that the Loki turned out to have the colourscheme of Clan Smoke Jaguar’s Zeta Galaxy. As always, suggestions and criticism is welcome.
  16. Well, that took a lot longer than I had hoped for, but I’m back with another mech. I’m glad that the posability is appreciated, as it is one of my primary aims when building the mechs, that they have a somewhat plausible range of posability (fighting gravity, fragileness and high centers of gravity along the way). I have also tried to make this mech a bit more smooth, but sometimes I prefer keeping some parts of the mech as thin as possible, which clashes with having to add another layer to smooth out the studs. But on to the mech itself: This is the Summoner (also known as the Thor in the Inner Sphere). Weighing in at 70 tons, it is truly a weapon fit for the crusading clan warrior. The back of the Summoner. The more smooth design makes it a lot more shiny, which I’m not sure I like, as mechs tend to be very battle-worn. And here we have the Summoner showing of its range of movement. Yes, the right arm is copied off the Timber Wolf, but blame the Battletech designers about that, not me. The two clan mechs together. I still hope to build a few more clan mechs, but I’m not entirely sure which ones. Maybe I should actually build a medium mech for once. Suggestions and criticism is welcome.
  17. I’ll start with some “accessories” for something I build earlier. Despite everyone’s best efforts the Equalists managed to conquer Republic City, and to celebrate their victory they redecorated one of the city’s most prominent landmarks. But people have not given up, and among the people who fight the Equalists we have General Iroh. When team avatar were destroying the Equalists airbase he managed to hijack a plane, and used it to shoot the other Equalists airplanes out of the sky. Unfortunately his plane was damaged and is now out of control and heading for the statue. At the last moment General Iroh manages to jump out of the plane and grab a hold on one of the banners on the statue. The plane crashes straight into the statue’s mask. The explosion causes the mask to come loose and fall of. The face of an old family friend greets they young general. A better look at the mask. Since I have had my laptop sent off for repairs I have had some slight problems with using reference pictures from the internet while I build, but thankfully I don’t need the internet for the comics. The plan to remove the Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom after the end of the 100 year war has grinded to a halt and the conflict in Yu Dao, the oldest of the colonies, is reaching its boiling point. Earth Kingdom protestors, led by some of the remaining freedom fighters, want to take the job of removing the “Ash Makers” into their own hands. But Aang and Katara will not allow this to happen. But the battering ram was just a diversion. Their defenses have been broken. But the locals are not giving up without a fight. And Smellerbee is not happy to see that one of their own has switched sides to the other team. A better look at the drill tank. I was never able to build The Drill, but at least I can build a drill that was made to break through a city wall. While it doesn’t show I the pictures the treads and the drill are linked, so the drill spins when the treads roll. And from the second comic series: While searching for what has become of Zuko’s mother Ursa, team avatar has learned that she might have disappeared in the Forgetful Valley. The Valley is home to a spirit which Aang is trying to contact for help. The Mother of Faces rises out of the waters. She is willing to fulfill one wish, but only one, so they must choose carefully. Unfortunately there are two things they could use the spirit’s help for. One is the search for Ursa, but team avatar also met a couple of water tribe siblings who could use the spirit’s powers to restore a mysteriously disfigured face. The team agrees to help the siblings who have been looking for the spirit for years. But before the team can state their selfless wish Azula interrupts with her own. The new outfits I have made for Sokka and Azula. The Mother of Faces on her own. It was a bit challenging to make her 6 faces. And just for fun, a little ”family photo”.
  18. It took a little time, but my lance of mechs is finally complete. This time we’re dealing with something somewhat smaller: It’s the RVN-3L Raven. Weighing in at 35 tons, the raven is by far the smallest mech I’ve built yet. Here we have the backside of the Raven, not much to talk about here. And here we’ve got the complete lance. Not only is the Raven smaller, but it’s also much newer, and a more sophisticated design. Surely the introduction of the Raven shows that the Inner Sphere no longer needs to rely on ancient designs, and the Innes Sphere is on the verge of entering a new era, where the shadows of the past no longer dictate the present. Here we see the Raven in motion. Carrying us into a future… Where the Inner Sphere will forever be changed. For the Inner Sphere shall finally face the sins of its past. The children of Kerensky have returned, not as the passive peacekeepers of the Star League Defense Force they once were, but as the crusading Clans. This is the Timber Wolf (or the Mad Cat to Inner Sphere freebirths), one of the strongest symbols of the military might of the Clans, and basically the most iconic mech in the entire Battletech franchise. Never losing as much technology as the nations of the Inner Sphere did, the Clan’s mechs are faster, stronger, and simply put, better. The backside of the Timber Wolf. And here we have the Timber Wolf compared to the other mechs. I may have finished my Inner Sphere lance, but perhaps I may yet construct an entire Clan star, depending on when I run out of parts. Comments and criticism will be appreciated.
  19. Time to address the last of the requests I have gotten so far. It was suggested that I should build Air Temple Island, but it is a little more than I can handle. But I will at least build a little part of it. The Equalists have launched their final onslaught on Republic City, and a very important part of eradicating bending forever is capturing Air Temple Island. Lin will do her best to protect the last airbenders from the Equalists no matter the cost. The kids must bring themselves to safety. As the chief of police Lin is an experienced fighter and can take care of the Equalists with her earth and metalbending. While the metal wires may be good for taking care of the normal chi blockes they are a bit too conductive to handle the lieutenant’s electrified kali sticks. While Lin may have been defeated the battle is not over yet. Jinora quickly proves that the lieutenant is no match for her airbending by hurling him over the nearest building. Much to Lin’s surprise the kids are quite good at taking out the attacking Equalists. A better look at the buildings. The interior of the green house. The interior of the house, with a few bedrooms and an office. And time for another request. And now for a quick look behind the scenes on the filming of another episode of the popular mover series “The Adventures of Nuktuk: Hero of the South”. Nuktuk unfortunately has to leave his girlfriend Ginger behind in order to stop the evil Unalaq. Bolin decides to ”improvise” a little, and steals a last farewell kiss from Ginger before leaving. While Varric may be a little confused by the unscripted kiss he loves the idea. Ginger not so much. Bolin as Nuktuk, and Ginger as…uh… Ginger. And a little posing for the promotional poster.
  20. Thanks for the comments. I hope that I won’t spoil the fun for the people who haven’t seen the latest season of Legend of Korra yet. I hear that some of the international premiers are on Febuary 19th. Well, I have finally gotten around to addressing some of the requests, so let’s get started! Let’s start with something related to the last few builds: Despite her best efforts Korra hasn’t been able to defeat the dark avatar, and has been cornered by him. Just as the dark avatar is about to destroy her soul for all eternity a shimmer of light appears, Jinora has appeared to help Korra. The dark avatar stops as a light suddenly starts growing deep inside Vaatu. Raava may not be gone for good after all… And another request: Early on while Wan was wandering across the world he came across a poor cat deer that had been caught in a hunter’s trap. Pitying the poor anima Wan decided to free it. The cat deer stayed with Wan and he named it Mula. Another indirect request: What a nice day. The cart is rolling along peacefully. Oh no! The cart has hit a poor blind girl! Fortunately officer Wang Fire is already on the case. Wang Fire does not want to drag this out, so instead of dragging the car’s owner to court he just has him pay the “compensation” right away. And something I have wanted to make: Ever wondered what happened to professor Zei after Wan Shi Tong made the library return to the spirit world? Well we recently got an answer to that question! Uh….it didn’t end all that well for him… A better look at the two new figures, professor Zei and the coach driver.
  21. Time to add another mech to the soon complete lance. I guess that the thread title actually doesn’t cover the entire contents any longer. This time it’s the CPLT-C1 Catapult, another classic among Inner Sphere mechs. The backside of the Catapult. The side view of the Catapult, which really shows how different it is constructed from the other two mechs. I am especially happy with the legs as they turned out quite movable and sturdy at the same time. This is the first mech I have built that is regularly fitted with jump jets. Runamuck himself built the jump jet stand. Size comparison between the mechs. How tall the Catapult is varies a lot, depending on how the legs are posed. Comments and criticism are as always welcomed.
  22. Sorry that it has been so long since I have last built anything, I have been rather busy lately. I have unfortunately not been able to address any of the requests yet; I’ll see what I can do about them. Thanks for the comments though. But let’s continue from where I stopped last time: Wait, what is this? Say uncle! Is seems like the old avatar still has a few tricks up her sleeve. Republic City might not be doomed after all. But the dark avatar is not going to go down without a fight. A better look of Korra’s cosmic energy powered form. My brother and I built this one together after he had gained some experience in building big articulated figures from his BattleMechs. Some influences on the design were 80’s G.I.Joe figures for the articulation and early in game models for Lara Croft in order to figure out how to try and render curvy figures with few polygons. Korra is smiling to contrast with the angry looking dark avatar. A comparison of the two giant avatars. Korra is much better articulated, nowhere near as top heavy, much better balanced and not as fragile as the dark avatar.
  23. Well, it took a while, but I finally got another mech cobbled together. Thank you for the comments, they are appreciated. Are you ready for 80 tons of pure Awesome? No, I’m not bragging, it’s the AWS-8Q Awesome. A personal favorite of mine. The cockpit of the Awesome. There is a blue piece of glass in there somewhere. The back of the Awesome. Awesome in action! And the inevitable consequence of the Awesome being in action: HEAT EXCEEDING RECOMMENDED LEVEL, EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN SEQUENCE INITIATED. Size comparison between the Awesome and the Atlas. As always, feedback is appreciated.
  24. This MOC was produced by my brother, so for here on out I’ll let him speak. This MOC came to be because I was very fortunate last year, as I not only got MechWarrior 3, but also MechCommander and MechAssault, in what could be called a BattleTech hat trick. It got even worse(better?) when my copy of MechWarrior 4: Vengeance suddenly decided to work again. So here it is: Reactor…online. Sensors…online. Weapons…online. All systems nominal. The AS7-D Atlas, pride of the Inner Sphere, and 100 tons of heavy metal mayhem just waiting to be unleashed. The Atlas is famed for its skull-like head. The backside of the Atlas. I was a bit surprised at how much it looked like a face. I did give the model several points of articulation and most of them are somewhat in use in this picture. Any feedback is appreciated.
  25. Thanks for the comment. The Avatar series really lack merchandising in general, which is a pity. It’s nice to hear that you like the clothes of the figures, Csacsa234. The heads are probably a bit of an acquired taste. I originally tried emulating the style of the official Avatar figures, but since I couldn’t make the white of the eyes properly I scrapped that part of the design and just went with the colored parts. I have stuck with that style ever since for better or for worse. It’s always a little hard to get the faces right for me, be it because of smudges, bad pens, asymmetry, poor lighting or just my own incompetence or lack of skill. Be warned the next thing is very spoiler heavy. Time to address the rest of the request. After having been imprisoned for 10000 years Vaatu is eager to take revenge on the human world. Since it was the avatar that imprisoned him Vaatu now seeks to take revenge on the humans with his very own Dark Avatar! But the dark avatar is not just an ordinary human like Raava’s, the dark avatar is a hulking behemoth of a monster. The dark avatar starts its rampage in Republic City…. … by literally tearing down the biggest symbol of the old avatar that exists. The old avatar has fallen, Republic City is doomed! A better look at the face of the dark avatar. And a better look at Avatar Aang Memorial Island.
