  1. About 13.3 inches deep closed at the narrowest, by my calculations. So yeah, you might have to figure out a different place to display it
  2. For folks wondering about the castle dimensions in a fully open configuration, this isn't exact (and the exact horizontal dimensions of the castle will vary based on which part of the angled design you face "forward"), but based on the Stud.io file my sister sent me, it's roughly 26.5 inches wide and 15.5 inches deep.
  3. I don't see why this new policy would rule out custom printing that doesn't include third-party logos or trademarks. There's a difference between a custom shirt print that just depicts a different outfit and one that (especially if bought secondhand without the context of where it came from) would seem to imply a corporate collaboration with or endorsement by Lego that doesn't actually exist. As far as I'm aware a lot of third-party customizers already would say no to a custom print of that sort unless the organization that owned the logo or trademark in question was commissioning them (I remember wanting to get a 1x8 brick printed with the logo of a non-Lego convention I attended and getting declined). It seems to me that that's the main casualty of this new policy, especially for things like Lego conventions that wanted to print and sell custom figs wearing their own merch—which, yeah, is a bummer. But I don't think there's any reason to panic about all custom fig printing being shut down altogether. I also don't think Lego's own figs that feature third-party logos are some sort of hypocrisy here. Those were produced in the context of a licensing partnership between Lego and those other companies, which inherently involves both companies trademarks being used together.
  4. I want to push back against this. Lego's goal to transition fully to cardboard and paper packaging by 2025, as stated on their website, is to have all packaging produced with renewable or recycled material and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (a non-profit that audits the sourcing of paper and wood products to ensure that they are being sourced sustainably). Existing cardboard/paper packaging is ALREADY FSC-certified. It makes zero sense to act like switching from non-biodegradable plastic packaging (which not only relies on harmful oil extraction and refinement at its source but also creates pollution at its end of life) to sustainably sourced paper is anything other than an environmental net gain.
  5. The only major area that my sister @Aanchir hasn't figured out is the path under the gatehouse to the central forest people hideout. On a completely unrelated note, one minor mod I thought of would be to add a light brick for the oven in the kitchen, which you could probably make room for by modding the landscape on the exterior a little bit. The two interior fireplaces (in the bedroom and dining room) would probably be too small to fit a light brick into, unfortunately. We'll probably see third-party lighting kits for this set eventually, though!
  6. Yeah, I can definitely sympathize with some of those things. That said, Legacy was generally not the best about giving us villain sets either—and while the Core theme only had two location sets, the dojo is probably one of my favorite ninja bases yet. And yeah, I don't think any of the things would be impossible to show up without the Legacy branding. Like, Ninjago City Gardens was only marginally related to the Legacy subtheme—I'm sure if there's another Ninjago City set it'll be branded as whatever's most convenient at the time. Similarly, I don't necessarily think reimaginings of past sets are going to go away entirely—just that the next time they roll around they're likely to have different branding and possibly a slightly different design approach.
  7. Lucky! Pretty decent selection of free landscaping parts.
  8. I really like the CMF yellow castle knight fig. I wonder if they have printing underneath their armor that could be useful for castle figs? Could go either way—as a "costume party" fig with a toy horse it could easily have a plain torso or one with a less historic print, but they could go the extra mile and give them a castle-y torso print as well. I suppose we won't know until reviews start showing up.
  9. This is such a great B-model! Sleek, complex, and thematically appropriate!
  10. Personally I'm fine with the CMF Classic King and Queen not looking ready for battle—as romantic as the idea of the king leading his forces into battle personally is, it's probably more practical for the king and queen to both stay away from the front lines! Even though I'm not even sure whether I'll end up getting one copy of the set myself (let alone two), I do like the idea of expanding the castle to include a throne room. In my digital brainstorms I had been considering simply pairing two copies of the set and refurnishing to remove redundancy, but I hadn't even considered creating a custom section that slots in between the east and west wings of the castle! I do like that idea a lot, though I'm not sure whether I'll end up coming up with anything as impressive as more experienced castle builders might be able to.
  11. To be honest, I don't know! Perhaps it's just a matter of cost (with smaller sets having less budget for packaging, maybe the punch-outs are cheaper?). But there are other potential reasons I can think of as well. Punch-tabs could be considered slightly more kid-friendly, allowing kids to tear into a new set more quickly on their own, without needing a blade or a grown-up to use it—which could be considered a positive for smaller, more kid-targeted sets. Punch tabs also leave a record of sets being opened, which might be seen as a positive for retailers who will more easily be able to tell if a set's been tampered with. Meanwhile, tape seals can allow sets to be opened without harming the packaging itself, and in many cases can be resealed, which is more attractive for many adult collectors who might want to keep their boxes for either storage or posterity.
  12. This set IS for adults and parents with kids, genius. That's what the 18+ on the box means! And adult women AFOLs have been asking for gender parity for a WHILE. The fact that you apparently don't know enough women AFOLs to realize that reflects more on you than it does on me. The fact that you're plainly sexist (and apparently also transphobic) is clearly evident from your comment, and if nothing else I'm glad you chimed in so that I can put you on my ignored users list and avoid your inane comments in the future.
  13. Yes, it had already been seen in white in some of the upcoming Super Mario sets. Should be a very useful part! Well, firstly, they're not all female. Secondly, if you can't suspend disbelief that HALF of them could be female (if for no other reason than this being a toy for modern audiences including both men AND women, and not an educational diorama for a museum or something like that)... that's a you problem. The "statement" it makes is that women have been asking for equitable gender representation in Lego sets for ages, and that doing so helps those women more than it hurts the small percentage of whiners who insist upon perfect historical accuracy in their plastic toys. And that statement is 100% true.
  14. This idea is one that my sister and I both arrived at independently, but we realized it would need slight modification as the hinges on the bridge and beside the water wheel would collide with one another when placed back to back like this. Still, that's not too much of a burden, especially since if you planned on combining two sets like this, you'd most likely be doing at least a few modifications to reduce redundancy anyway (like refurnishing the rooms or removing one of the water wheels). Compared to that, replacing the hinge bricks/plates with standard plates/bricks would be a simple adjustment.
  15. I did like the suggestion somebody in this thread had to use the CMF classic king and queen as the regents, and have the "lady of the castle" be their younger and more battle-ready daughter/heir. Though that may largely just be my fondness for those figures speaking.
  16. I know that on one side of the part they opened up is the forestmen's hideout (underneath the little market area). The Verge article shared earlier had a pretty good view of that. The other thing they could potentially be seeing would be the pathway from that area to the secret entrance near the tree, which hasn't shown up clearly in any of the pics so far,
  17. You jest, but in the upper right of that same picture you can see the exterior of the garderobe (toilet), including the slot that the waste falls from. That forestwoman had better be careful where she stands!
  18. If you mean what I think you mean, the "black square" is just a wrought-iron window (which uses a bar piece and jumper plates instead of a typical window frame).
  19. Given that they've shown off the alt builds at the reveal and in the Verge article, I wouldn't be surprised if the instructions to those will be published—maybe not in the set itself (hence the alt builds not being shown on the packaging), but possibly online like Technic "B-model" instructions tend to be these days.
  20. Dark red for that part and bright red for this one could work if you want to recolor the roofs to red. Though to be honest I always interpreted the red castle roofs as shingles of some sort, rather than thatch like these.
  21. I've been fiddling around on Stud.io trying to recreate parts of this set to figure how they fit together. There's some real neat geometry in the staircase up from the kitchen—a 3/4/5 triangular area with a finished (gapless) floor. Can't wait 'til reviews of this set start to show up—I get the feeling there's a lot of neat details we still haven't seen from the limited number of images that are available so far.
  22. Seems to be all prints, based on the disassembled pic from the Verge article.
  23. Wow... even beyond the photos, that's a pretty fantastic article—much better and more in-depth than I'm used to seeing from non-AFOL press!
  24. I think the black works for them, especially given their more organic shaping compared to classic trees. If you want to change the color of them without changing the build, Reddish Brown would be an easier option than Dark Brown (since parts like the large macaroni tubes don't come in Dark Brown yet).
  25. I know everyone's excited about the build overall and the figures, but I'm also excited for what looks like a new 1x4x3 half-arch piece (used to support the floors above the kitchen and mill, among other spots). Will be good on its own or doubled up as a more circular alternative to the classic 1x8x2 arch.
