I really like this build, for me it has a real old school Lego look to it. The little details on the building are fantastic. I can totally envision this little place sitting out in the middle of nowhere waiting for travelers to arrive.

Kaliphlin Lodge in Konugard, Mitgardia.
Erynlasgalen replied to CptMugwash's topic in Guilds of Historica
I think you did a great job blending Kaliphlin with Mitgardia , I am especially liking the the back second story, the windows are perfect. The interior on the first floor is my favorite part - looks like they are set to have quite a feast tonight! Glad to know I wasn't the only one who tried out the four flags on top of the dome, I did almost the exact same thing on mine, except it threw off the proportions too much so I scrapped it. It looks so much better on yours! -
Thank you for all the compliments! I seriously debated on whether it was too simple or not, but I'm glad I went with my gut! I ran out of time to add anything inside, except for decorative back wall you can see through the doors. I don't think this will be last incarnation of it though, once I get more time I want to make it more modular and add an interior to it. Not at all, thank you for letting me know! I brought my originals up and put them side by side and they definitely are out of whack. I'm not entirely sure what happened when they uploaded, the originals are nice and clear, but they are a little blurry when I bring up some of the larger views on Flickr. I'll try to re-upload everything later at a higher resolution and see if that helps.

Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion

Great work on all the embassies so far! I can't wait to get some more time and really have a look and comment on all the things coming out of guild right now. I have been incredibly busy the since the last challenge and was afraid I wasn't going to get one finished, but I made it in just under the wire. This is by far the largest MOC I have done (48X36) so it was a real challenge sometimes. I originally made the building up in the tan and sand blue to get the look I wanted. I then remade the same building in three other color schemes to try and make it look more Avalonian. As you can see, none of them had the same splendor as the original, so I decided to go with the first one and add smaller details to tie it into Avalonia. I think in the end it came out well, right off the bat you know what land the embassy belongs to and hopefully the landscaping gives you a great sense of where it is located at. I only wish I could have gotten some better photos, but alas Mother Nature has decided to only give us cloudy skies the last few days. Weary Kaliphlin citizens are always happy when the Kalilia Embassy comes in sight after a long day of traveling. The green scenery is a stark contrast to what most of the desert dwellers are used to, but the embassy architecture makes you feel right at home, no matter how far it is away. (Kalilia has no exact location in Avalonia yet- if someone thinks it would fit well in their realm let me know and I'll update the post :) Embassy by erynlasgalen, on Flickr embassy-8 by erynlasgalen, on Flickr embassy-5 by erynlasgalen, on Flickr embassy-6 by erynlasgalen, on Flickr embassy-15 by erynlasgalen, on Flickr embassy-1 by erynlasgalen, on Flickr Click on any of the links to go directly to a larger picture -also posted on Flickr are more views and different angles. I was just about to post about this as well, four separate occasions now over the last two weeks, the latest one just this morning. Each time it happened just as I was trying to log into Eurobricks, my Trend Micro protection also pops up and blocks the program. After that I run Malwarebytes and it always finds one-two virus on the computer. I'm pretty computer savvy now when it comes to cleaning everything up and maintaining my computer, so I am not sure what is going on. When I went to sign in this morning, I did notice as the log in page was loading that the page at the bottom of the screen was not directing me to Eurobricks, but I didn't have the right mind to write down where it was going to investigate before work this morning. Each time it has been the same Vista Internet Security 2012 virus that LMW mentioned. Three times on my desktop and once on my laptop now. I haven't had any problems with any other site I have been on, and it just started the last two weeks.

Finally finished my watchtower entry and got it photographed and edited. I would have preferred to have a little more daylight for clearer photos, but I have to work with what I have right now. Crossroad Tower of Petraea Very fun first challenge for me, this isn't something I would normally make, so it was great to break out of the mold some. I'm surprised my small little WIP turned into such a tall tower, but I let it grow organically and this is what came out in the end. I originally had it positioned over by the mountains, but since we already have fine folks watching over those areas, I didn't feel the need to add one more there right now. With our trade routes expanding and new travelers arriving everyday, I figured a tower near the crossroads was an important landmark to mark the road to the Capitol and to keep everyone on the road safe. -
Just outside of Petraea stands a recently restored Watchtower which overlooks the crossroad between the Great Oil Road and the road to Queenscross to the North. The city spared no expense by hauling in stone from the North and East to mix with the lovely sandstone that is so readily available in the Badlands. Tower-location Occupied day and night by the Army guards of Petraea, they make sure the road is safe for travelers coming and going into the desert capitol. On a clear day you can see for miles in each direction. [MOC] Burj Sina - Where you can see far
Erynlasgalen replied to Christoph's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wonderful tower Abū Alī! The small pop of color on the tower has to be my favorite part, it breaks up the tan just enough without being distracting. I can't quite make out from the pictures what the white bricks are near the door. Can you enlighten me? -

Rerouting a river would be a good idea, but isn't Petraea an oasis? Maybe adding a small amount of vegetation around it on the map would work so that it doesn't look just like a dry city in the middle of nowhere. Here are some WIP pictures of the watchtower I am making. I do have some rock formations on the left side, and grey stone work so I was thinking it would need to be near the mountains maybe outside of Qarkyr along the trade route. To me something is still missing, I was thinking maybe enlarging the second story, and adding a smaller third story for a little more height. I wasn't going for something really tall, since it is based more in the desert on flatter land. Standing in the sun all day can't be good for your skin if you are on top, so maybe a canopy/roof of some type is in order. Any suggestions out there? Can I third this? I'm all for the idea of people being nominated for them, instead of a free for all. I personally would rather earn one title that other people nominated me for, than to have ten titles because I was able to make a bunch of Mocs in a short period of time. I love the fact that this guild is so varied, we are not limited by what other people are making so much, and I think in the end that will be our advantage. Quality instead of quantity! I've been busy this week, but I'll be posting some WIP shots of my watchtower when I get back home tonight. This one is based more over towards Qarkyr by the mountains. -
Are you sure you are not talking about my cat? One of her favorite sounds is Lego crashing to the floor The way I prevent it is to keep my Lego in a room that the dogs can't get into. That way I can prevent as many animal related accidents as possible. I figure every once in a while a brick or two will be destroyed by them, but I would rather have that then not have the dogs around.

Ahhh, you beat me to it, I was totally thinking on the island. A nice secluded place by the ocean seems like a perfect place for a nice vacation spot. @Sandy- I don't think the army building challenge is over just yet, I believe we were just fleshing out how the main army would look and what direction we wanted to take with it. I'm still putting together a rag-tag one and working on some creatures and machines to be shown later. -

This was exactly what I had in mind as well. I was envisioning the greener north with a little more traditional look and the further you travel in the more Middle Eastern/Egyptian/Persian/Spanish/ect the architecture would look. I think in our case we have more freedom to incorporate a lot of different cultures and looks since our end of the world is made up of so many rag-tag different groups. I think we should embrace those differences instead of trying to make one totally unified look. I do agree that wood would be a precious commodity outside of the northern part, so the further in would have a more stoney/brick/stucco look. The desert color scheme I think would tie every structure together even if the structure is based on different architectural types. -

I liked the look of Mikey's dark blue sleeve on his soldier, so I looked through what I had and found the torso I believe K-nut is talking about. Pulled off the red sleeves and replaced them with blue here: I believe all the parts are still readily available in smaller sets right now, so it could be a good possibility for army building without breaking the bank. I only found one red torso in my collection that I liked, but is averaging more $2.00-2.50 on Bricklink, is the torso from POP Alamut set. Switching the pants out to something fancier and it could be maybe more of a royal guard because of the price point: What is everyone's opinion on an undead mummy army? Yes, a little cliche, but the other kingdoms seem to be building quite the collection of fighters and I think we should look for all the help we can get. -

I, Amelia Phantomhive, am pleading her alliance to the kingdom Kaliphlin. My family wanted me to settle down and start a family of my own, but my audacious soul would never allow that. I'm excited to brave all the corners of the land in search of treasure, adventure and danger. I may not look too tough, but I assure you I am not a force to be messed with. -
Review: 7188 King's Carriage Ambush
Erynlasgalen replied to Lego Otaku's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was excited to see this set when it was first announced since I needed a king and haven't had the cash to spend on the castle. Lucky for me I was in the Lego store the other day and the King key chain was on clearance for .99 so I bought two to make up for it. The printed horses are gorgeous, and I like the overall look of the carriage. I can't really tell from the pictures but the carriage seems to be a good size height-wise. I wonder how it will look along side MMV and the new Mill? I will be waiting for this to go on sale though too, because I can't justify spending 40.00 on it for a few trees and a carriage. -
Latest updates on LEGO set sales
Erynlasgalen replied to gylman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I was just in the two local Targets here in Ohio and they just put the POP sets on clearance. I was just in there on Tuesday, so it had to have happened within the last two days. Its not too much right now, both stores were averaging about 20% off, but there was a lot of stock still on the shelves for it. -
I was caught off guard a little when I saw how small the buckets were at first, but I absolutely love them. Like Zeya I noticed the handles do come off very easily, so I am wondering how long it will be before I lose the original handle and the spare one. I am going to pick up a few extra copies of the new Blacksmith, just for the bucket, weapons and chicken. Even better than the buckets though are the new goats. I am not a fan of them in real life, but the Lego one is as adorable as a small piece of plastic can get. I hope they put them in another smaller set in the future, so I can amass a whole herd of them.

If I remember correctly I believe windmills were traditionally used to grind grains into flour, cornmeal, ect. I would guess that the cylinders are there to represent flour or something along those lines. The only thing that bothered me about the windmill besides the size is that the door is raised off the ground. I am not sure how the mini-figures climb up to get into the mill, their long ladder seems like overkill. I guess I will just have to build them some steps off the side of it.
