  1. The reason outriggers have gearing is that there is no pin hole for direct input into the rotational axles,
  2. I do have a bunch of models to get the parts from. Most of the parts involved are common parts. The only new parts that I use are the 3x5M flipflop L beam and the black 7M flipflop beam. I think I can get them from the NASA thing. The most important part is that I have fun while working on this model. That is why I can whip up this thing in a couple of days, while I didn't make any improvement on the Airbus. On another note, second iteration of the crane. I managed to lower it by two studs. Still not sure if I should use mini LA for crane elevation. I'm thinking of not doing this and instead put a front hitch movement knob under the hood.
  3. I'm skipping this because the HOG goes directly straight through the cabin.
  4. I did say I would drop out of the contest, but a few days after that I just started this model on a whim. And I had fun with it, so why not. I might not make it in time for submission, but in the end what's important is that I have fun with what I do and feel good about my creation. Functions done: - 3 steering mode - Rotating front fender - Rotating cabin - Rear hitch up and down movement - Crane rotation - Crane outriggers - Drive train for crane elevation. Remaining problems: - Mini LA for crane or not? The turntable is already placed higher than normal. - Cabin lifting while rotating. This might not matter in the end because the cabin can already rotate, but if it can be done then why not - Hood - Front hitch movement - Inline 4 fake engine - Crane arm second movement - Crane grappler
  5. Why dont you use red 3x11 panels for the sides of the boom?
  6. I think I'll drop this entry and drop out of the contest. It just doesn't feel right to remove hub and motor to make a manual model. That's not what I started the designed for, and that's not how I want it to end up being. It feels like butchering my creation. And the contest is about fun. I don't really feel the fun in making a manual version out of what I initially started. Also I spent my creative juice on the 42157 B model already; my workload is also heavier for the upcoming month.
  7. Pardon me if this has been explained somewhere else, but why are there bidirectional gearboxes if all functions are supposedly manual? I'm thinking that giving each function its own input and knob can allow the player to control multiple functions at the same time, while freeing up space for simpler drivetrains and structural reinforcements.
  8. I can't imagine what a Space Wheel Loader would look like. Google doesnt return any meaningful results.
  9. The sets' information is publicly listed on a retailer's page, and I don't think they would go so far as fabricating the whole thing.
  10. Since this set doesnt really sell well I've made the instruction free. I'd be glad if someone gives it try,
  11. It's still possible to have a truck at that scale, maybe just not with 49.5 mm tires, but with 30 mm rim nonetheless. Set 8071 has 593 pieces.

  13. These are all the play functions that can be done with a 4-in-1 bucket. The back section of the bucket has teeth to increase friction in grappling jobs, as well as a smooth inclining surface for dozing jobs. The bucket in my model has those too, just like the real thing.
  14. Yeah this one caused me a lot of headache because I want a proper bucket with no gaps but there arent many pieces in the set that can cover the irregular shape on the side.
  15. Manually moving the bar here. The bucket is held in place thanks to friction.
  16. It tilts manually and relies on friction pins as well as frictions of 2 more 8 z gears. The gears are not in the photo because I added them after the photoshoot. I plan to save the remaining three cylinders for the excavator arm.
  17. This is an alternate model of 42157 based on the JCB 4CX Backhoe. The final model as built according to the instruction is slightly different from the one shown in photos, because there were some design changes and improvements after the photoshoot. Even though it is modeled after a backhoe, there is no excavator arm because the original set does not have enough structural parts for that. Instead of stretching the parts to make the excavator arm at the expense of the whole model, I want to concentrate on designing a functional playable good looking premium model. The excavator arm attachment will be available as a separate module later. Functions: - Working steering wheel - Rotating seat - 4 Wheel Drive - Inline 4 Engine and Engine Fan - Openable Hood - Bucket lift - Bucket tilt - Bucket grab - 3 steering modes: Front wheel steering, 4 wheel steering, Crab steering - 4-in-1 bucket Instruction: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-154575/nguyengiangoc/42157-b-model-backhoe-loader/
  18. The claim that it's worth 700$ is only valid if you had actually spent your own money to buy one. Otherwise, you have no skin in the game and that claim has no merit.
  19. I can arrange an instruction for you if you allow me to.
  20. Why cant we have something functional and good looking and reasonably priced like the good ole day, like Big Red. I actually bought two Big Reds. If this set is sold like that I would gladly give TLG my 700$ :(
  21. My opinion for this set went from "Maybe I'll consider it if there's enough discount and mood for it" to "LOL NOPE even if someone gives me this for free" after watching the reviews. Huge thanks to the reviewer!
