LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
Haltiamieli replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nice torso and head, but I have to admit that I think the fig could have been better. We have waited for seven long series without a single pirate fig, so this one should have been a bit more special. The hat with golden logo looks just bad, and I'm not hooked on the golden hook either. A new parrot (mold or recolour) could still more than redeem this figure, but surely it would be shown in the picture if such a thing would be included? -
If you could meet Tolkien himself...
Haltiamieli replied to SheepEater's topic in Culture & Multimedia
With one meeting, when a lifetime of friends, publishers and admirers pushing him on couldn't do it? You're quite a man. -
Dunno, both of them are very much on the fringe of being pure comic relief already in the film if you ask me, so I don't think it will be too hard for Lego to make them appear kid-friendly enough in the game.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
Haltiamieli replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I just bought my second Series 7 CMF, the evil knight (I'm quite very skint at the moment, so I'm going slowly). After some lightly disappointed reviews and comments I'd read from here I was quite positively surprised when I got it to my hands. I really like the shield, and the boar is discernible enough - maybe it would have looked better in red or dark red, maybe not. I like it in brown too. Of course it's unfortunate that the torso is blank, but I don't find the details on legs and breastplate overdone, as some have. I had thought I might not need more than one, but now I surely want at least another, maybe even more. -
I suppose Game of Thrones license is more or less as likely as Girls Gone Wild license (the latter has much less violence, after all!). I think some sort of mythology theme is a real possibility, though probably quite removed from any actual myths and history, like Lego themes tend to be. It could probably start already during LotR run, after it has been given a headstart to come to its own this year. After LotR I'm expecting the return of "normal" Castle themes with new factions etc. Either a very high fantasy storyline (cf. Fantasy Era) or a very low fantasy line (cf. Kingdoms), to differentiate it from LotR.

A theatre would be one of my top wishes too, a library would be another. But my opinion shouldn't probably count much as I have yet to buy a single modular, and unless I suddenly find and marry a rich heiress or win at lottery it might be that I never will I just admire them from afar. Some sort of half-timbered house that could also fit into a medieval setting (with some modifying, surely) would be a sure must-buy for me, but I'm not sure if it would be deemed fitting among the other modulars. Then again, a restaurant could fit into such a house nicely.

The hobbit with the orange-ish hair in this set is Merry, and currently he's exclusive to this set (just like Pippin is exclusive to the Mines of Moria set). (Brickset has an informative gallery of all the figs in this theme and the sets in which they appear)

Rumors and speculation: Haunted House Modular
Haltiamieli replied to forumreader's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
To me the main dilemma in attaching the Haunted House to the Monster Fighters theme is that as an exclusive it will probably be sold at least a year or two after the theme itself has disappeared from the shelves. That in itself would not be a problem, as Medieval Market Village greatly outlived Fantasy Era Castle and Imperial Flagship the Pirates (though the latter appears not to be associated in any way with the Pirates theme in packaging, at least not in the front). But if what we have seen of the Haunted House is representative, it does not really carry the subject matter of the Monster Fighters in it - it doesn't seem to include any of the fighters themselves, and in my opinion they wouldn't fit in that well either, even if the set could matter-of-factly be a nice addition to the monster land of the theme if you happen to have also other sets from the theme. Thus the name could appear rather strange after the regular theme bites the dust: as a standalone it is "a Halloween set" or "a Haunted House set", but not "a Monster Fighters set". Thus I predict it will not have Monster Fighters logo in the package, but it will be sold among the Monster Fighters as long as the theme lasts. Of course, all my babbling is in vain if they choose to include a monster fighter or two in the set and really tie it into the Monster Fighters theme. -
When it comes to Gandalf's staff, remember SheepEater that the licence is for the movies, not the books (and John Howe's cover picture is just one interpretation as is the film imagery). As such one can legitimately complain that using simple stick is not exactly accurate, though personally I think it is a good choice. Adding a cone or something else to the staff would make it look rather heavy and unbalanced, and wasting a new mold would not have been wise either, in my opinion.

Upcoming LOTR minifigures wish list!
Haltiamieli replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Arwen, Éowyn and Galadriel, because the first wave was sadly devoid of female characters. Also I'm very much hoping to see Tauriel in The Hobbit wave, even if I'm somewhat prejudiced against her when it comes to the movie itself. A knight from Dol Amroth or Prince Imrahil himself would be awesome, but as they were not really included in the movies I don't see those as a possibility. -
LOTR + Hobbit Sets - The Continuity Errors
Haltiamieli replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You forgot the most egregious error of them all! There's three The One Rings included in the Shelob and Weathertop sets, when there was only one The One Ring in the book and movies! Sacrilege! -
Looking for a good accessory for horse helmets
Haltiamieli replied to jFox's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Here. -
Nope, as the item description reads four dollars is what the seller is asking for the empty box. Cheapest price for the bricks excluding minifigs appears to be 20 dollars.

Minifigures Series 8 Guessing Game
Haltiamieli replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Admittedly at this point of the thread, my list will look very similar to some of the above, but bear with me. 01. Old time deep sea diver (m) 02. Golfer (m) 03. Skier (f) 04. Rollerskater (f) 05. 18th century noble woman "Marie Antoinette" (f) 06. Pirate captain (m) 07. Judge (m) 08. Wild West sheriff (m) 09. Medusa (f) 10. Medieval minstrel (m) 11. Saxophonist (f) 12. Gardener (f) 13. Canadian mountie (m) 14. Librarian (f) 15. Chef (m) 16. (Modern) fencer (m) Dunno, most of the armybuilders would hate a series like that. -
Hold your horses, the cavalry hasn't arrived yet! That Youtube video is made by Marshal_banana himself and Lego Cuusoo just posted a link to it on Facebook. They also posted a link to DeTomaso's Flickr feed a few hours earlier, but I don't think that means they have accepted his British Birds project (currently at 1266 supporters) either. There's certainly some goodwill towards MWT from the Lego Cuusoo runners, but nothing is set in stone – the review stage hasn't even started yet.

I have most of the childhood collection of me and my brother, and as my brother is five years older than me, some parts in our collection predate me slightly. I should have a considerable amount of my father's bricks from the end of the 50s/start of the 60s, but in a tragic turn of events my grandparents gave most of them away when they moved in 2000. They thought that as we were already 15 and 20 by then we would have no interest in them - a sad misunderstanding. Not that those bricks were in any collectable shape considering that they had been played by two successive generation etc, but as memorabilia they were invaluable. All we have now is a few random bricks that somehow had wandered from the grandparents' place to our home before the move, like this "Esso huolto" ("Esso service") brick. But all the metal toy cars were lost, for example.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Haltiamieli replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, though I suspect that while they are on principle not against multiple successful projects from the same IP, in reality it will seldom help the latecomers. The first project-turned-into-a-product would have to be a pretty spectacular success for them to consider another one - there will only be four (or less) Cuusoo products a year, after all, and they would probably want to cover as many different target groups as possible. And when it comes to the DeLoreans they are not only from the same IP, they are the same vehicle – even if in somewhat differing scale and style. There would have to be quite a many years between their release, or either one would hurt the sales of the other seriously. And that's bad business plain and simply. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Haltiamieli replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Another Legend of Zelda project passed a thousand votes a while ago, and I think Lego's recent congratulary comment is interesting as it is, as far as I know, Lego's first actual comment on all the projects that deal with the same licenced IP as some other project that has been accepted to the review stage before. They say they are (pending licencing etc.) willing to consider another set even if one has already passed. So apparently the plethora of success-seeking Minecraft projects and their like aren't going to be offed from the site in the foreseeable future. I had been wondering about Lego's policy regarding them. -
[Review] 9463 The Werewolf
Haltiamieli replied to Plissken's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I wasn't too impressed with the werewolf when the first pics surfaced, but lately it has grown on me. I like it quite a lot already - we'll see how this changes when/if I manage to purchase this set (as I'd like to, but money is skint and there's so much to buy this year!). I think it's not at its best when photographed straight from the front, but little from the side it starts to look much better. The backside of the head is very nice. At first I had some reservations about the CMF Minotaur headmold too, but when I got it to my hands I saw how great it was. I wonder if someone will make a MOC with the werewolf of a certain scene (not to spoil it for the non-readers) in A Song of Ice and Fire... -
Round 1 x 1 plate with open stud in other colours than white. There'd be quite many uses for it, I'm sure.

[Review] 9461 The Swamp Creature
Haltiamieli replied to Plissken's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review! The swamp creature is awesome, hands down, but it's also great to know that Frank Rock has a second face, as I don't have use for the sunglassed one. Definitely going to buy this one. Or two. -
"9 to collect"; it's similar in style to the normal CMF series "16 to collect" tag and approximately on the same place in the box.
-
No, I meant to say that I don't know whether or not they have redesigned them, but even if they have, the resulting Lego mold would be more fitting for a huge Game of Thrones dire wolf than a real wolf. But as you say, including unnaturally big wolves in a theme would not be in itself a problem for Lego designers, it all depends on the style and the feel the theme takes. Then again it could possibly also breach their license agreements, just as I don't expect to see the tauntaun mold used outside of the Star Wars theme.

Rumors and speculation: Haunted House Modular
Haltiamieli replied to forumreader's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Though apparently the designer video will not feature Jamie Berard, as can be seen from the original screenshot. Or at least not just him. -
Dunno. Even if Jackson & co. do redesign wargs for the Hobbit movies to look at least slightly like wolves instead of mongrel hyenas from outer space, a Lego version should be much too big to represent a real wolf.
