[Software] LDD2PovRay
Nachapon Bricks replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The renders will more realistic because of using accurate real bricks dimensons and gap distances to render. Especially in case of small model or close-up (zoom in) camera. ie: A 2x4 brick: Typical Lego CAD digital brick dimension = 16 x 32 x 9.6 mm, no gaps between bricks (0 mm) Real brick dimension rendering = 15.8 x 31.8 x 9.6 mm, horizontal gaps of bricks side by side = 0.2 mm, vertical gaps of bricks stacked = 0 mm Very nice idea for "Cube Dudes". But this real dimension idea can't help. I suggest use 6x6 tiles instead of 1x1 tiles. The model will become huge but should be better. Are the head/arms/legs hinge-able? -

Is it possible to add a function to simulate realistic/accurate gaps between bricks? Only the horizontal gaps not vertical gaps, just like the real bricks. The demo model on the left using lxfml trick to scale down only horizontal size to become as same as real bricks. Please zoom in to compare the different with original flickr pic size (2934 x 1536). LXF template with all red AA roof tiles in pic below, support LDD 4.3.6. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nachapon/94UCSSSD/92_aa_roof_tiles_for_ldd436.lxf LXF of Unofficial LDD 71006 The Simpsons House Roof MOD and more http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nachapon/94UCSSSD/51_unofficial_lego_simpsons_71006__ldd_by_nachapon.lxf You can save each of them as LDD's template or groups for easy use. Some AA roof tile template set now support lastest LDD 4.3.6. Some engrave patterns roof tile added. Left house = original, middle four = LDD4.2.5, right three = LDD4.3.6. Thank you for your post. Yes, five LXFs above use lxfml file trick only. Special thanks to Superkalle for discuss with LDD team. I am allowed to share some LXFs new parts which are not too closed to breaks the LDD EULA. ie: AA new roof system 2x1 2x2 2x3 2x4 2x8, Pegasus-Saddle idea by The Real Indiana Jones..

It is possible both to add custom textures and custom bricks without to breaks the LDD EULA, samples below. ;-) All of the LXFs below can be shared, and open/render correctly in any standard installed LDD. Please support(vote) @ cuusoo, thank you. http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/2750 Four 2-sided for SNOT work very well in LDD. This trick can make all kind of simple new parts. But it require LDD ver.4.2.5(or below). The new version will always revert the lxfml geometries editing to defult state, then didn't work. A quick MOC sample. Please see how this one was built on 2nd YouTube video in post #179 above. Slope/hinge connection

Lego stereo 3D (use duck #1 for parallel eye) (2&3 cross eye) LDD2povray rendering: After finish the first rengering, rename the png to prevent been overwrite. Then change camera position to left or right a bit by edit the X or Y of .pov file as below, then render same file again. #declare ldd_camera_transformation = transform { matrix <0.3635627329 ...???..... X,z,Y>} Pic below I use Y+2, change ,5.1669855117797852>} to ,7.1669855117797852>} Please search google if you don't know how to parallel/cross your eyes. :-) It will not show up realistic/correct 3D image if you use wrong eyed method.(ie: Use cross eyed on parallel pair.) Hint: For best result, please download full size pic from flickr, Original (2920 x 1536) pixels. Zoom out/sit back for smaller pics for parallel eye (more comfortable but smaller view). Use full screen for cross eye (not so comfortable but get bigger view). This kind of 3D pictures look best on screen with high resolution & high DPI. ie: ipad mini 2 with retina display @ native resolution. Exchanging parts
Nachapon Bricks replied to Roo boy's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Good trick if not too many bricks to be exchange. I think all methods works for bricks with similar geometry only. Maybe just replace all designID only, because we can replace color with LDD shape selection + paint tools afterward. Then no need to find color code. -

You can do it on the fly(without restart LDD). 1. Export you model (Ctrl+E) to "Save as type" *.lxfml 2. Edeit it by text editor with repalce function (ie: wordpad). 3. Replace all (Ctrl+H) string: designID="3673" materials="194" with designID="2780" materials="26" (peg w/o to with friction / midium stone gray to black). 4. Save file. 5. Open or import your *.lxfml -

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Nachapon Bricks replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Add group selection sub-tool for one click select pre-group bricks directly in build area. This function will improve virtual play ability of LDD a lot. Sample of uses: Quick select pre-group minifig or sub-module of the model weather it connect to other part or not. Play lego chess set in LDD. Play lego board game LDD.
