You should run the motor on low revolutions if it is possible to minimize the start kick... I don't know if it is possible to programm because I don't work with NXT... Of course if you need to switch fast it's not the solution... Make a picture of gearing and how gears are attached... probably is everything made to weak... Max...

Erik... it's just like you would say: "Don't travel to the moon because it got no sense for today's state of technic..." Too big distance, to many costs, to many possible problems... Technic is not only about functionality... It's the only one part of the model... It's also about challenges... I would say that anyone should build what he wants and what him makes pleasure... I don't think that author builds this crane only to impress other people... Max...

Samer, why I love 42009... the main reason is always that the man has to like the defined type of model... in this case it's mobile crane what I generally like very much also in real life and I always wonder how it works at all... On 42009 I like the overall look and design... I like that via 1 L motors are powered such many functions... I have build this crane and after few weeks I started to modify it... I like higher amount of axles, at the moment it got 8 axles, finally it should have 9 axles and it should be mix of Liebherr LTM 11200 and other cranes... At the moment it is still WIP and half disassembled so there is nothing a lot to show... I haven't worked on it since last months and it will last maybe half a year to finish it... I let me time because I work on other projects like my version of Tatra 8x8 that I will present you... :) On the other hand a got 2x 42030 and I have never build it because I'm not big fan of Front loaders... so that's always about it what you like... Although it's a great model which I will maybe build in future but for now I use many parts from it in my other models... :) Max...

Effe... I liked that older outridgers with white stripes more... they added more colorisation... looked better IMHO... the superstructure needs redesign... but that's just my ideas... I know how hard is to put a lot of components like motors and IR receivers in defined space... I like your Kenworth although very much... :) Maybe you must not to hide everything to give the superstructure lighter look... Max...

I love the 42009 very much too... Of course that the designer must made compromises but it is one of the best sets ever made... I buyed 3 of them to build my super mobile crane... Max...

The number is not so important as the good grip (contact with the ground)... You can move it also with 2 axles... for ex. in my crane when I put the main weight of superstructure on non driven axles, I got problems with grip because driven axles were not so loaded... from this reason is very good solution to use suspension at least on driven axles to maintain good contact with the ground... as I said... you can move the crane also with 2 axles but with that under the turntable... Aminnich... don't let to talk it out... If your project just ends with 12 axle chassis because of other problems it will be not so bad because you test new things... If everything will be heavy you can cancel it or rebuild any time... And to ordering new parts or missing parts... no one says that you must finish this project in 2 months... you can work on it also half a year or whole year... I got my 9 axle mobile crane 5 months in WIP status because of lack of time and other projects like my Tatra 8x8 (which I rebuilded maybe 10x) etc... For me is sometimes not important final vehicle but WIP vehicles and semi-solutions where I test my ideas and got a lot of fun by building... Max...

Aminnich... just notice... count with that with U-joint you are limited to 45 degrees by driven steered axles... So use driven axles just in the middle if you then use bigger angles at the ends... Max...

I would not discuss about it if aminnich (or someone of us) is able or got enough experience to build it... I like the affirmation: "We are not doing things because they are easy but because they are hard..." We all tryied a lot of things to do with Lego and some ended only as unfinished WIPs...
