42172 - McLaren P1
LvdH replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The clutch under the differential doesn't look promising. And the steering lock is extremely limited. -

Shock absorbers. Same as BMW bike, Peugeot and Daytona. -

I saw the drum that is used for shifting. Only in orange this time for some reason. -

The front looks really weird. It just seems way too short. But will see. I’ll buy it anyway. I like everything else, plus it finally renewed the gearbox design using the Yamaha pieces. -

I hope they fit, a while ago I found 3 in a box of parts. Would be nice that I would finally be able to put them to use. That is actually the one thing about the rear I quite dislike about the Lego version. -

As far as I know, it was only produced by other manufacturers. Anyway, I don't own those sets or the MOC, so I don't have a comparison planned. I know a guy who has Bruno’s original P1 in LEGO, and will also buy the P1 on day one. And yes, that someone is me I’ll dust off the P1 when the time comes. Maybe disassemble it in smaller modules. I’m sure there is a lot of interest to see them side by side given the immense popularity of Bruno’s model. -

Based on the previous models in this series I’d expect the first official info to be either next week or the week after. -

You’re comparing an extremely low resolution and compressed image to a high resolution render. It looks stretched as well. It’s not exactly a mystery why the Cada version looks better. -

If there was you probably wouldn’t see it on (most) promotional photos. -

It looks very well rounded. This might just become the best of the series. Definitely looking forward to seeing it in person. -

You’d be surprised what AI can do nowadays. Anyways, I am pretty sure it’s real. It’s the overal composition that looks weird. -

It (42196) released in April. Only the new parts from the sets released in March have been added. And with new parts, I mean those that were new in that color, were in out of production sets or actual new moulds. The actual orange parts are from the NEOM McLaren sets I believe.- 5,506 replies

August from TLG and October for regular retailers, I guess. The previous 4 also had a 2 month exclusivity. Ironically, the Sian and Daytona have the best "playability" imo, since the suspension doesn't sag and the gearboxes work as they should. They still don't hold a candle to what some MOC designers offer though. And yes, those MOCs are largely for a different market, but they (the markets) are not as far apart as they once were. -

P18 is only a codename anyways. It could very well be named P1. Like the 720s was named P14, Senna P15, and so on. -

@R0Sch The 1 is also not quite correct. The top looks to be a 1x2 curved slope which you can also see in the pile. -

No, if you look closely you can see some of the LBG slopes used to create the P1 logo. -

Slight off topic, but honestly, what were they thinking when they decided on a white Countach (guess it's the 5000)? There is no way that they never noticed this one, right? Guess we can now wait for its inevitable B-model:- 5,506 replies

2024 Technic Sets Discussion
LvdH replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, 2016 was probably one of the best summer waves of all time; Volvo EW160, Claas Xerion and BWE. Even one of the designers at TLG called the Porsche “something on the side” in some review (I think it was with Sariel) back then. In 2018 they released (according to many) the best technic crane with “big red”. 2020 and 2022 on the other hand don’t stack up that well, the Volvo dumper was very popular but relatively small and due to the delay of the Liebherr 2022 didn’t bring that much special in comparison. Perhaps after 2018 the supercars were just considered “an extra”, as said by one of the designers in that one interview.
