Free LEGO promotion with UK Sun and News of the World
pedro replied to pedro's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Inside each paper, each day, there's a token which you cut out and take to the participating shop. The voucher can only be exchanged on that day for that specific toy i.e. the X-wing on Saturday but you can exchange as many vouchers as you want. When Sunday comes it's a different voucher and a different toy. In some cases they may have one or two left over to the next day if you bring in the appropriate token but quite often they're all gone by the next day. I found a page related to the promotionn on the New of the World site (I've updated my first post). -

Hey, I'm still planning on attending the event. I'm having to cut down how long I'll be attending as a close personal friend is leaving the country that weekend but I'll be down either Thursday or Friday, possibly both. I've been figuring out who from my family would be coming as we weren't sure if we'd have extra family down... but no-one else will be coming afterall. Whichever day I decide to head down, I'll be driving from Brimingham/Midlands area and spending the full day with you all, right 'til the end!

Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel - Introduction & Discussion
pedro replied to ADHO15's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Basic rule amendment to 'Studious'. The '2-per-round' rule is redundant now. You can use as many spells or abilities as you possess. The main purpose of Studious is to allow your character access to another spell. The new rule should read like this... • Studious – The witch or wizard has spent much time studying and has become extremely proficient in the magic arts. Can choose 1 extra Spell. Passive. ADHO, can you amend this in the first post please? -
Thanks for the review Masked Builder. I feel the Proton Cannon could've been much better. The main body doesn't look solid - flimsy somehow - which could've been a sacrifice to accomodate the firing missile and technique for making for connecting the legs (which isn't the best). The eyes are too high, the legs are too stubby and the feet way too big. I've attached an image below which shows how it should be proportioned: I still kind of like it... I'm a big fan of the big droids... but still feels like it should've been better. I quite like the new BARC speeders so am happy enough they've thrwon one in with set. Lumiara looks superb! I do wish she and Barriss were in the same style though... nevermind! The additional minifigs are all good - Rex is a great minifig. Thanks again for sharing this with us MB.

Just to add some clarity on rank sacrifice - the character loses the spell or mastery ability as donated by that rank. EXAMPLE: Ben wants to change his spells and sacrifices his rank of Death Eater to select entirely new spells. As he is now a Magus, he now has a choice of 2 spells and 1 mastery ability - where originally he had 2 spells and 2 mastery spells. This is the part of the sacrifice that must be made to change his repertoire. Hope that helps. I'll update the 1st post.

Brickster's comparison and what you mention here Ska got me thinking... For someone like myself considering buying a large scale ship the choice rests between this and the Imperial Flaghip. Given the price I expect this will be in the UK and the price of 10210 there mostly won't be a massive gulf between their prices. It comes down to which is the superior model and in that case the Imperial Flagship is a far superior and wins hands down. The minifigs are nice but can't really sway it... and I do like the newest Pirate minifigs a lot too. They have a charm of their own. I've a big fan of the new sails. Very unique too. Good question! Rather curious myself...
-
Many thanks for the review Brickster. She's a formidable looking vessel! The colour scheme is subtle yet striking - I love the dark brown hull and the crimson sails. Sure there are a few places where the designers have had to cut corners but overall she definately looks the part. I really love the minifigures that come along for the ride too, so varied and interesting with a host of new parts that will see countelss uses for our MOCs. I was wondering: are the hair pieces and hats separate or separable on the main characters or are thay all one piece? (Just noticed the question answered above!) Thanks again Brickster.

Cheers for sharing this great review with us WhiteFang - very concise! I'm thinking in much the same way as you in that I'll buy this for the minifigs and accessories. The minifigs in the PotC theme are outstanding and your review really shows them in their best light. I love that Elizabeth Swam minifig; she'll make a great princess for any medieval theme. The model itself isn't up to much but I wouldn't consider it the selling point anyway. Thanks again!

Consider your wins as currency and you'll be on the right track. You 'spent' a total of 14 wins to get to your current rank and have won 1 more duel since then for a total of 15. If you decide to sacrifice a rank and drop to Magus you cannot get those 5 wins back as you already spent them to reach Auror. You will however be 1 win closer to regaining the Auror rank as you never spent that extra win. Does that make sense? As an alternative, you could always duel your way to Grand Sorceror to receive your pet!
-
My bank account can't repel awesomeness of that magnitude! Love it. The realistic detilaing across the top surface and bridge is superb. Where's Boba Fett though? They could at least of thrown him into the mix...
-
Man, who knew one little MOC could be so controversial! All said and done, this is a really nice MOC mate. Makes me want to go back and rethink my effort, though I'm fairly happy with LEGO's version too. Nice work, Kiel.
-
Hey Dongo, welcome to Eurobricks! Your version of Troy is really impressive - in scale and detail! I like your solution to rolling those big gates too. I think I'd love to see this scene populated with lots of minifigs: maybe a day scene with the city bustling with actiivty as the inhabitants go about their daily routine; and a night scene where the city is quiet, guards stand wearily at thier posts unaware of the as the greeks descend from theTorjan horse and run amok in the city!
-
This is extremely cool... there's so much to look at and remark upon! The SNOT techniques you've lavished upon this hall look amazing, the level is detailing overall is stunning. I like the characters you've introduced into the scene too: the contrasting factions of dwarves, one regimented in colour and armour, the other ramshackle, like a rabble. The band of heroes are really nice too - I like the way they add into the story. I imagine what this scene would be like in the dark with light rising from the magma below and flickering from the hearth and torches... Look forward to seeing your next creations Sirens.
-
What an emotional scene Derfel - I really feel for those poor girls about to be hanged! The backdrop is superb; you use so many great techniques to construct your buildings, there's definately lots to inspire other builders (like me). I think your written introduction is great by the way, it really helps set the scene. Cheers for sharing this with us.

Legilimens works exactly like that. Silencio Maxima sounds great. Anyone can join in at any time! There are links in this thread that lead to the core rules, character records and dueling thread.

General Discussion and Announcements
pedro replied to Dragonator's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Sorry to break the Mafia trend but I've posted a new expansion for Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel... It expands on the original game by adding extra rank and challenge for the seasoned players while adding more spells and introducing pets for all players. The game will play just the same as always, with player's participating and running their own duels. Enjoy! -
In conjunction with ADHO15, PEDRO proudly presents... ~ A Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel expansion ~ Lord Voldemort's campaign of hatred has cast a dark shadow over the Wizarding World. Innocent witches, wizards and muggles alike fall victim to his evil Death Eaters ~ even the worlds most renown and powerful magicians are scathed by their evil. Dark wizard and witches names' are spoken in fear as news of their acts of terror spread... With the loss of Albus Dumbledore those who champion good seem without hope... But in the darkness there is light ~ many who will rise up and do what they must to prevent evil's strangle-hold on the world. There will be sacrifices, but the fate of the Wizarding World hangs in balance... It is a time of legends. Will YOU become a legend of the Wizarding World?! Welcome to Legends of the Wizarding World! The aim of this expansion is to provide Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel players, new and old, with extra developmental potential for their characters by introducing new ranks, powers, additional customisation and more. These are all detailed in the sections below. ~ Wizard's Duel Anyone wishing to participate in Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel and Legends of the Wizarding World should read the core rules in the Introduction & Discussion thread before playing. Those wishing to duel should follow the rules to create their character, posting in the Character Records thread. Duel's take place in the Dueling Club thread. Handy Links Introduction & Discussion Character Records Dueling Club ~ New Rank Characters can now progress to a 6th rank! It takes 6 wins for an Auror / Death Eater to reach this rank: good characters attain the status of Grand Sorceror while evil charcaters become Dark Lords. The rank table now looks like this: Student - Possesses no additional spells or powers. 2 wins to next rank. Practitioner - Player can choose 1 Spell. 3 wins to next rank. Adept - Player can choose 1 extra Spell. 4 wins to next rank. Magus - Player can choose 1 Mastery Power. 5 wins to next rank. Auror / Death Eater - Player can choose 1 extra Mastery Power. 6 wins to next rank. Grand Sorcerer / Dark Lord - Player can choose 1 extra Spell or Mastery Power. ~ Back to Hogwart's Players can now change their character’s complete repertoire of spells and abilities and make new selections. But forsaking knowledge in this way comes at a price – the character must sacrifice 1 rank to do so and additionally loses the spell, mastery power or pet as donated by that rank. This represents the step back taken in coming to terms with their new spells and powers. The character must now progress through the normal number of duels to reach their original rank. In the interests of fair-play, players should always notify other players of their choice to do this. ~ Spell & Mastery Powers NOTE: Asterisk (*) marked entries are amendments to established powers. Episkey (Neutral Spell) - A healing spell, the wizard can use this to recover from minor wounds. Episkey can only be used once per duel but restores 1 health to the character. Blocks when used. Episkey can be defeated (or silenced) by Silencio. Legilimens (Mastery Power)- The wizard can delve into the mind of their opponent, allowing them to see their memories and thoughts and gaining vital insight into their repertoire of spells and magical techniques. Armed with this knowledge, the wizard has a deadly advantage over their adversary. Prior to the duel the player should post one of their opponent’s spells or powers. This power is cancelled and cannot be used by their opponent for the duration of the duel. Legilimens cannot be used once the duel has begun (so don’t forget!). Silencio Maxima (Mastery Power) - So deft is this character’s use of the spell Silencio, they can use it against some of the most powerful spells known. The wizard’s Silencio spell defeats Stupefy and Crucio (it still reacts with other spells and powers in the same way). Studious (Mastery Power)* – Studious characters can now choose their extra spell from any listed: good, neutral or evil. ~ Pets Many wizards and witches have a familiar or animal companion with which they form an inseparable bond. A pet will often come to a character’s aid, defending their owner or aiding them in their fight against an opponent. New to Harry Potter: Wizard’s Duel, a pet may be chosen in place of 1 spell or mastery power choice. A player should give their pet an appropriate name – no existing Harry Potter pets’ names can be used. Pets provide several options. Every round a player add a pet command to the top of their Duel Sequence. Pet Attack - Adds 1 damage to the first attack. Pet Defend - Minuses 1 from the first damage received but wounds pet. A wounded pet can no longer be used in the current duel but recovers fully for the next. Pet Counter - Distracts (cancels) opponents pet. EXAMPLE: Jonas’s pet, Fluke, is a golden retriever. In his first round he sets he sends the following Duel Sequence: Fluke Attack HIGH MID LOW Parry Kick Jona’s HIGH attack will inflict 2 damage if it hits as this is his first damaging attack. ~ Please feel free to ask any questions or give any feedback below. When I've got a moment, I'm hoping to an image or 2 to add extra flavour. I hope you all enjoy playing Harry Potter: Wizard's Duel and Legends of the Wizarding World.

What other SW "Battle Packs" would you like to see?
pedro replied to BearHeart's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Tatooine battlepack would rock. I'm down with the Jawas! Anakin does have a thing about Tuskens... there's always the chance that they might get reintroduced in the Clone Wars series? But you're right... LEGO have merely dabbled with the Tatooine theme and never really explored it as much as they could or should have and now Clone Wars has most of the attention. And because Clone Wars is centre of attention, I reckon we may be closer to getting a generic Jedi battlepack. As to who would face of against them, there's still some droids we've not seen in LEGO or in battklepacks, such as commando droids or magna droids... that'd be cool. -
Thanks for the review Masked Builder. This is a great set; really distintive design with the cool switch-wing function. Highly, highly swooshable... had me spinning around in circles in the middle of my livingroom for a while. Was pretty dizzy afterwards . The cockpit really needs some work in my opinion, but should be easy to mod. The minifig of Shaak-ti is fantastic. Shaak and Aayla are 2 of my favourite Jedi and I'm glad to see they've finally been gievn the LEGO treatment (though I still need to pick up Aayla). Saesee is great too, though the printing on my minifig makes it look like he's staring down at something... I too wish they'd included Vos but I guess 2 new Jedi can't be sniffed at.

Our friends have recently returned to Japan with thier 2 young children. Have sent messages by mail and facebook... just hope they're all safe.

How ironic... I'd actually expected my box to be crushed in some way, being on an aeroplane, but neither boxes were terribly damaged (i bought 7688 on the outbound flight). You'd think they'd have some inkling as to how to pack and post items like these.
-
My pleasure to share this set with you all. That's what I thought - very much in the classic vein but with a modern twist. I like it a lot. Not sure if I'm sold on the new aircraft designs, they say Playmobil too much to me... it's LEGO I collect! Get yourself on some international flights! Not really the best option I guess... I've gone a bit dark recenlty due to family and work... but I'm easing myself back in.
-
I paid pounds in both directions of my flight so I've no idea what it is in CAD. If I find myself on the same trip anytime soon I'll find out. Is £15 really that pricy for this? LEGO's pricing is ever on the increase and £15 seems to be the going rate for a low-medium build set like this. As an example, I've been looking at buying the 7639 Camper recently which retails at £14.99. Okay it's got 55 more pieces, but many of these are accessories - when complete it's probably comparable in terms of scale. The Private Jet has far fewer accessories, but is a superb example of this type of small aircraft. And it's exclusive. The white/dark blue colour scheme is striking and says class! I've not opened my 7688 Stunt Plane yet, but having seen the review I'm sure I'm remain most impressed by this set.

Introduction I flew out to Vancouver recently with British Airways on a short business trip. It's a long flight at about 9 and a half hours. It doesn't matter how much diversionary material you pack along for a trip that length, you'll still find yourself perusing the inflight magazines... and possibly inventing amusing scenarios for the chracters that grace the safety card! British Airway's Highlife is the king of airline editions in that they have a rather nice shop selection... stocked with LEGO. Instant win! I hadn't travelled with them for a quite a while I flew at the chance to buy 7688 stunt plane as I flicked through the heavily leafed pages. 3 nights, 3 days and a dose of jet-lag later and I reached for the Highlife magazine to find the newest edition. I didn't think it likely there'd be a new set within it's pages, but was pleasantly surprised to find 7696 landed but ready for take-off from it's pages! Again I dived at the opportunity to get this, the latest arrival to the airline promotional fleet. And very glad I am that I did too... Stats Set name: Private Jet Set number: 7696 Theme: City Release date: 2011 Price: GBP 15 Pieces: TBC Minifigs: 2 Resources: Bricklink Highlife Shop The Box The first thing to notice about the box is that it follows the space-saving dimensions of LEGO's other airline promo sets - here compared with 7688 - and stream-lined so that many can be stocked in limited space. In the past I've still found that the boxes can suffer some crushing, but as you'll see by the pictures, this wasn't so bad this time (the box of 7688 was flawless...). The front of the box features a scene picturing the set in typical LEGO format, with a nice 3-quarter view of the jet and the captain personally greeting the business man prior to the flight. The environment behind them is pictured in typical LEGO cut-out sytle with the indistinct shape of airport and city in the background, completing the scene. The back of the box is split into 3 panes showing various actions and functionality shots such as the opening passneger compartment. As always, a minifig is depicted on the side to give an indication of scale - in this case the jovial, bearded captain. Contents Inside the box there's the instruction manual, 2 un-numbered plastic bags, 2 loose elements and a DSS for the tail fin. I did find it slightly odd that one wedge plate was loose and the other wasn't? There's a fair selection of parts. I hastily counted 110 but I'm not too sure. If anyone wants to count the number in the image above, be my guest . There's no uniques parts, with everything available in other LEGO sets. The instruction manual, folded in half so that it fits snugly into the box. ...and a random page from the manual. The Build There are 2 minifigs are included in the set are standard LEGO fayre: a captain in nicely printed uniform and a young, russet haired business man with suitcase. Both minifigs are composed of commonly found parts but are nice nonetheless, though I think the captian would look better with a black 'police' hat. As always, starting off simple.. ...each step adds only 2 or more bricks, but never more than a handful. I'd imagine this keeps things simple for the young 'uns. Wings are attached... ...and the engines are added. The jet takes on easily identifyable features and begins to take shape. The jet is build to open from the side so that the crew can easily be positioned within. There's even a little space for luggage! Finally the wheels are attached... this bird is ready for take-off! Finished Model The Private Jet in all it's glory. For it's size and parts count, this is a beautifully realised aircraft. Side view: the jet has a nice, aerodynamic shape to it. The details on the wings add to the sleek design. From the rear of the Private Jet, there's a small indent directly behind the engines due to construction constraints but this doesn't harm the overall aesthetic. Mr Entrepeneur embarked and ready for his flight. His suitcase fits neatly in the space behind his seat... though tends to shake around a bit if the flight gets bumpy! There is a small space right at the back of the plane whcih could be used as an alternate storage area or used for additional cargo. The front of the cockpit can be detached to position the captain at the controls. It's a snug fit but there's enough room for some basic posing. Conclusion Over the past couple of years' travels I seem to have inadvertently become a collector of airline promo sets... much to my delight! With the 7696 Private Jet, you get a superb, solid little private jet that's highly swooshable and in my opinion soars above the previous stunt-plane style offerings. It's a simple build, taking around 20 minutes, and reminds me of the classic passenger aircraft that LEGO used to be available but scaled down to a level of neat efficiency - for example it's great to see a modest interior in such a small model. There's even some potential to increase the capacity of the cabin by removing some of the elements that act as luggage storage. For £15 this set may not have the best price to parts ratio, but it's exclusivity and simple yet effective design make it well worth the investment. If you find yourself flying with British Airways then you can't gor far wrong investing in this, whether you fancy some in-flight building or savour it at home. Alternatively you can buy it from the Highlife shop online without having to step on a plane, just hit the link at the top of the review. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the ride!
