  1. The Indiana jones theme has seen some awesome minifigs, sets and parts - it's a damn shame to lose it With movie licensing it seems to be LEGO's way to create themes based around current trends and movies that are on the horizon now - Prince of Persia, Toy Story, Ben10, etc. - and I guess Indiana jones doesn't fall within this remit anymore. They can't possibly cover every avenue and with most bases covered from a set point of view, it seems that Indiana Jones is the theme that has to be dropped. However, just like has been done before with many other themes, LEGO may bring it back if they feel it's viable. If new Indiana Jones movies were continued to be released then there's nothing to say it wouldn't be a consideration for them. Looking at Eurobricks as a control group, Indiana Jones has been incredibly popular. As far as facts and figures go I have no idea.
  2. Thanks for the new pic of the Luke's X-34 Navy Trooper Fenson. I think it's okay: the minifig selection is great if you don't own 'em already, the landspeeder itself is fine if you don't own any previous versions. The only thing that annoys me about this (and this seems to be a trend with much of LEGO's future releases) is the colour. Here was an opportunity to colour match it perfectly - earth orange is the best colour for it in my opinion - but alas an opportunity missed! Oh well, if it's cheap enough I might get it, but for the reasons above I don't feel I'll be missing out if I don't.
  3. Superbly detailed but light-hearted review there ILikePi, thanks! My lovely wife brought got me chrome Vader amongst other LEGO for my birthday - I was over the moon! I'm glad that we in the UK had the chance to get him, I was very disappointed about the availability of chrome C-3P0. He now resides happily within my Death Star in all his shiny glory! I've taken the liberty of replacing his lightsaber with a chrome version for extra, extra shinyness I'd like to see your coverage of the DK event, I don't think they ran anything like that here...
  4. Integrity is something we all want in our contests. In a way the voting process is already restricted to certain members and the guidelines are there to keep things fair. There are those who are genuinely new here and want to take part in an exciting event - that's brilliant, let's welcome them with open arms. Unfortunately there will always be people who try and exploit the rules... I don't think we'll ever understand why. Fortunately the staff are always on the case and always address any problems. Indeed, how easy would it be for any of us to shoot a mail round our mates and get them onboard with the voting? There are well over a hundred staff at my work and I'd bet I could easily convince at least half of 'em to vote... but I wouldn't and neither would the vast majority of people here. It's not in the spirit of the competition. I'd much rather be judged honestly by Eurobricks members. Admin WIN!
  5. I really, really don't think it's supposed to be a mole. It's a giant sea dwelling monster loosely based on a turtle by the look of its 'shell'. The expression The Deep is often used to describe the dark depths of the ocean: terror from the deep, monster of the deep, secrets of the deep, etc. As such it wouldn't necessarily mean the monster is a bottom-feeder, just that it lurks in - or guards - the depths of the sea.
  6. Always knew you were a 'dodger!
  7. Thanks for the votes of confidence lads! However there are some excellent entries and still plenty of time for people to vote!
  8. Great coverage of the Clone Wars series, vehicles and characters def, thanks for putting so much time and effort into it. I still haven't seen episodes 21 and 22 (doh!) so am glad to be able to read your synopsis of it. Hopefully you'll keep up the good work for season 2! Now I feel like a clone myself after - like many others - voting for the Munificent frigate and Aayla Secura in your poll! Are you listening LEGO?
  9. Many of us are a wee bit disappointed with the ruins we've seen already, but in the box images you can see a huge temple in the background. Maybe it's a suggestion of bigger things to come? Atlantis itself? This first wave could be just the beginning of the adventure... here's hoping! We'll find out eventually I guess
  10. I think it's supposed to be a monstrous, sea turtle thing. The spines make up it's shell, it has four limbs and a tail. It does have some crazy colours going on for some reason... like the rest of the theme!
  11. Welcome to Eurobricks Dundenman. As far as I was aware this is a voting topic and not a critique. If you have a criticism of my entry, it'd be more appropriate to post it in my entry thread and I'd be more than happy to respond. Please read my entry thread and you'll understand my motivations and why it is my ideal battle pack. Thank you.
  12. 'tis true! I was just thinking... these sets' parts will awesome for M-tron MOCers!
  13. Two heads are better than one! Great work Nabii, what a fearsomely cool creation. I don't own the Crystal King, but I'm tempted to buy it now - maybe two - and see what I can come up with I also like Nabii's Power Grinder that he's created to take it on!
  14. Ladies, gentlemen... I'd like to draw your attention to THESE hi-res set and minifig photos I found on R.Czerniawsk's Flickr page (many thanks to you). Some of these minifig photos look like early images with which LEGO's graphic designers would work with. There's some truly inspiring design here - some of the submarines look fantastic and superbly detailed, the minifigs are lovely. But there's some not-so good elements too - I really dislike the Exo-force style submarine and the Atlantean ruins seem a little too lightly touched upon. I'm still struggling with the red colour scheme - it totally, totally doesn't suit this theme - but I'm being won over! Based on what I've seen here's my tuppence worth - please excuse the non-use of names but I'll assume you've seen the pictures 8056 - This is okay. Brick-built crab is fine but the stickers let it down. I'd much rather get... 8057 - What a beauty! Low price point, wonderfully designed submarine with plenty of detail for it's size. Also includes 2 of the arguably best minifigs from the line with that grizzly cap'n and a sharman (Sharkmen, Peppermint M! Sharkmen!)! Multiple purchases a must. 8059 - One of the least interesting sets (and much criticised here) compared to the submarines and not one I'm likely to buy. Looks very Power Miners. 8060 - As I mentioned above, way too Exo-force and lacks the solidity of the other subs. Minifigs can be collected from other sets. 8061 - For being an Atlantis exploration theme, Atlantis is disappointingly tiny! That aside the monster is great, the minifigs too - Lord Octon is fab! 8072 & 8073 - Army builders ahoy! Great mini propulsion device for the diver too. 8075 - A SUPERB centrepiece for the human divers! This sub looks great, oozes style and comes with loads of extras including that nice little mini rover. Must... buy... this! 8079 - A fearsome beast indeed, and limited edition too! It has a very unusual look to it due to the use of new parts but some of it's features i.e. heads, claws, legs (?!), could've looked that bit more aquatic in my opinion. Still, pretty cool, there's just better sets here. Sorry if these hi-res images have been posted before. I browsed through the whole thread and couldn't see them and felt they neede to be aired!
  15. Really nice, descriptive photos and a great review Big Cam. Great little set and at such a price worth multiple purchases. Can't say I agree with marking it down for only having one minifig; it's a single pilot starfighter and it only cost £7.99 - less than a battle pack. I understand that you don't like the clone pilot minifig though. Like Dark Rebellion mentioned it harks from a time when LEGO produced lower priced canon sets. Great, but I think demand for authenticity means LEGO creating more detailed and (by proxy) bigger, expensive sets. The forthcoming releases may see a temporary change in that.
  16. Originally I was going to create an ARC trooper battlepack - loved 'em in Clone Wars Animated - but then decided to work on a Jedi one instead. The force felt strong in that one
  17. To add weight to KimT's comments, I was a lurker for a long time before I actually joined, then even as a member I barely posted for ages. The transition has been an instance where I felt I had to comment on something; so signed I up, said my bit and that was it. I think maybe a year or so later I decided to be more a part of the Eurobricks community and retro-actively 'introduced' myself... ...now I stick my nose in wherever I can But that's an example of how a non-existant post count isn't necessarily a reflection of a member's - or indeed a lurker's - time spent on Eurobricks.
  18. Man, I'd be first in the queue for a book like that! My pleasure! Share the love and all that... Star Wars LEGO 'playsets' are pretty rare so this really caught my eye - especially an iconic scene like this, the Rebel Base. I'd love to see this released. Failing that it'd be interesting to try build it from scratch.
  19. The Captain Antilles-alike looks like a treatment of the Rebel Engineer seen driving the personnel car in Episode IV. I made my own, grey-suited version here. I'd assume if it were ever to be prepared for official release they'd make sure all the minifigs were correct
  20. 'ello! As some will know already, the excellent new DK Star Wars Lego: The Visual Dictionary has a great section on design with some great photography showing head molds and prototype 'sketch' models, including a version of Yavin IV. I thought I'd scan in the images for all to see (images copyright their respective owners). As you'll see the designer's put a lot of detail into the sketch including exterior, interior hangar with midi X-wing, throne room and more. Personally, I reckon this would make a great official release and wondered what everyone elses thoughts are on it: Do you like it? Would you buy it if it were released? I've included a poll out of interest.
  21. That might be a better option Dr. Dave - let Tilius do all the hard work
  22. News to me, cheers Tilius! I'd love to see this built... I think I may have to play through the whole game now

    Battle Packs

Some cool ideas there Dodger! The camoflagued Imperial speeder is pretty nice, your Geonosian tank too. I do reckon you went with the best idea for your entry though
  24. I regretted not getting the original AT-TE. I got almost every set from the ROTS line and when I decided I wanted it, it was gone! Not to worry though, the new version is much better... but funnily enough I still haven't bought that one either! I better think about doing it soon or it'll be a case of history repeating itself - and I don't want that! Bamaker, man, that's too bad! But at least it was for a very worthwhile cause... Not to make you envious, but your posts reminded me of when I found myself stood in the LEGO shop Birmingham UK (which has since been closed for a while now ) at the time Cloud City and the AT-AT were on the shelves. I spent an incredibly long time deciding which to get. It was so difficult: set with awesome minifigs, purely awesome set; set with awesome minifigs, purely awesome set. In the end I chose Cloud City! Superb set and I wasn't disappointed. Several months later I scooped the AT-AT at half price from Woolworths online... result!
  25. I got mine today, yey! Absolutely superb book and a joy to look through; lots of fantastic photography, information and fun facts about our favourite theme, including many comparisons between the sets and minifigs from different years. There's also a superb section about production, including photograph's of LEGO 'sketches' made by the designers - such as the aforementioned Yavin IV with midi X-wing - and a 2009 prototype helmet mold for Hoth Rebels which I'm curious to know we'll see in the upcoming battle pack. If you love Star Wars LEGO, I really can't recommend this book enough. My copy arrived at work today and after browsing through the pages two colleagues sat next to me immediately ordered it! Oh, and of course the minifig Celebration Luke as it's referred to within, is awesome. As Dr. Dave put it: icing on the cake!
