Hey there Fellow Eurobricks members! This Weekend I had some time to build my entry for the Batman Contest! I know this is a bit fast, but I'll be very busy for the next few weeks and I wanted to make sure I at least got my entry for the second Category done in time! So, as the title says, I made the home of Alfred Pennyworth! Maybe a weird choice as he's nothing of a superhero. No destroying machines, no huge killing rockets, no dangerous explosifs for our butler. No, I made him a nice but simple appartement in one of the towers of Wayne Manor. I don't own any real Batman sets, but was lucky enough to buy some figures for my Brickfilms from Bricklink a few years ago before the prices became outrageous. As my collection is limited to the Penguin, Alfred or a henchmen, I decided to go with Alfred for several reasons. First, because the dangeourous villain layer would be done by 90procent of the people who chose villains and because I didn't own that much of dangerous weapons and all that stuff as I never owned much Batman or Police sets. So I went for Alfred. Where would Alfred live ? (Correct me if I'm wrong hardcore Batman fans) The exact place where Alfred is never showed. So I found that he probably would live in a small space for himself in his Master Bruce's Manor. In one of these cosy towers maybe? And as there was no height limit to the contest, I felt that Alfred's tower could be a perfect entry! For a Tower, I discovered that 8x8 was actually pretty small, but I tried to make the best out of it, and here is the result! So, the Tower consists of three floor. One, is the underground part from the Batcave that leeds to a ladder by which Alfred joins his personnal rooms. Then, on the second floor, is where Alfred sleeps after a long day of work and just above them, you'll notice the "wardrobe" and the bookshelf with Alfred's personnal books that don't belong in the Wayne's library. He has acces to his collection with again, a ladder that also leads him to the upper part of the tower, his office/living room. His bed, that is placed above the ladder to save space can be lifted up to let Alfred enter or leave the room. For a "lifted bed" view, click here. I decided to tile the floor with brown wood to give it a stereotypical bedroom look and at first wanted to include a standing lamp or some more closets and cupboards, but the space was just missing. I was happy to include the little side lamp though, that I consider as a trademark, as I usually randomnly throw in these things. I wa sunaware of it, until someone pointed it out to me and I went to check and he was right! Here is another view of Alfred, hanging from the ladder, trying to reach one of the books on the shelf. And one last picture of the living room or Office as I like to see it. Here Alfred can read the book he chose, interract with Batman with the Phone, or in the case of an attack, grab his gun, as he is the only one to be allowed to have one (by Batman that is). As for the back of the tower, there's not much to see. And as the contest rules only allow 3 pictures (besides the presentation pic), I'll put a link to it. I said this was a mix between living room and office. I find it hard to judge whetever I wanted to make the last floor into a warm room with sofa and armchair or simple but relaxed office. I went mostly for the second idea though kept i mind the soft aspect I wanted it to have and to give it this comfortable feel to it, I gave it the phone and the little bottles that men would see in a kitchen. So, I hope you enjoyed this Vig, and Comments and critics are of course appreciated. The Model is still standing so if you have any suggestions or things you'd change, please tell me Thank you to you all And special thanks to the Penguin for holding this great contest!

This surely doesn't look bad Denik! Great job! As a Harry Potter builder myself (And it so happens I built my own Great hall) I know how hard this can be! And I must say you pulled it off very nicely! The outside is okay though I feel likes the roof needs some work and in some pictures it looks obvious you run out of bricks and tried to fill the gaps with random colored bricks. That's not that big of a problem, but if you get the opportunity to, try to get that fixed. As for the inside, it looks really nice! Finally someone who gets the tables right I'd say! everybody seems to forget hufflepuff and Ravenclaw in their MOCs. I know they're not in the sets, but come one, they musn't been forgotten! As for the teachers table, I agree with lightningtiger that they're might be missing a few, but then again, I assume you didn't have trelawney, Sprout and Hagrid. But that's just one tiny detail that you may be able to fix in the future! So to make the long story short! This is an awesome creation with some minor details that could use some approvement! Keep making all these HP Mocs Denik, they're really cool!

This is really wonderful! I love that scene! You got the general feeling of the ministry pretty well, and the spells look really cool too! The fireplaces look really nice and the design's original! But, as it so happens, I would have used a totally different color sheme for the moc! Black fireplaces, brown tiles, to make it look more movie ( and I'm pretty sure it was described like that in the book too) accurate. Aside from that great job! One small detail though, to make it look more realistic, I would change Voldemort and Dumbledore to a more fighting position, and It might look better if you switched some tiles, because the floor now looks really blocky. It should look nicer if the wooden planks fade in to each other.. Get what I mean? Anyways, Awesome creation and great design! Keep the cool mocs coming!

Good Review Penguin! Great pictures too! Although, I must say that I felt like you were already prejudiced about the set. I won't deny that this set is a huge disapointement But I do think there are some ok points, but then again, you're the reviewer and it's all up to you. I do agree on the boat's poor design and the not so well looking minifigures. But even then, what's the point of the box? I do understand that it's also there to put a tint of humour to the review, but come on, it's just a box But, I must admitt that even if I don't agree on all points, your final rating is defenatly accurate to this set and once again you've done an excelent job on this wonderful creation!

Thank you all for the lovely comments guys! I'll try to post the third one as soon as possible!

Hey fellow Eurobricks members! If you've been following the recent activity on MOCpages, or you've seen my "You need to decide where your loyalties lie" creation, you'll know that there's a Harry Potter competition going on at the moment and that we are supposed to enter a creation for every year of the Harry Potter franchise, inspired by a scene that can be either from the book or the movie (Or both in some cases). This time, for the second round, I decided to go original and take a scene from the book. Funnely, this has never been made into a MOC, or at least I haven't found one. Without further ado, here's my second entry for the Harry Potter constest : Filch's Office! "Name.. Harry Potter... Crime... - It was only a bit of mud! - It's only a bit of mud for you boy, but to me it's an extra hour scrubbing!" The scene takes place in Filch's Office (Duh! ) when Harry, after a Quidditch training gets catched by Filch when he tries to go back to his commonroom while drippin mud all over the place. Filch then takes him to his Office to find an appropriate punishment. But Peeves saves the day by throwing an extremly expensive vanishing cabinet (yeah the one from Half Blood Prince!) on the floor, just above Filch's office! The caretaker is distracted and grabs his chance to finally have Peeves expelled. In the mean time, he leaves Harry alone is the old, dirty Office. [ A close-up of Filch's ugly face. Ready to write his punishment form, he hurries to clean up his desk and close the small drawer behind his back, containing some very personal information. Although I consider this entry to be less good than the first one, I still entered this just for fun! The office is losely based on the book's description and several notable pieces of furniture can be found in this creation. Like in the book, the office contains the usual desk, the wooden filings cabinets and the highly polished chains that Filch has been keeping on his office for ages, praying the day that he'd get permission to use them once again to hang students from the ceiling. This very personnal information happens to be a KwikSpell letter. An easy way of learning magic for Squibs and untalented wizards. During Filch's absence, Harry once again, can't contain his curiosity and opens the letter, discovering the Kwikspell form and Filch's deepest darkest secret. Harry then hurries to put the envelopp back at it's original place when Filch comes back, unfortunatly he's too late and the obvious position difference leads Filch to think Harry read his mail, discovering his secret. This causes Filch to quickly send Harry away! Another close-up of the room and the large drawers containing details of every pupil Filch had ever punished. The book states that Fred and George Weasley have an entire drawer to themselves. Notice the muddy footsteps harry leaves behind on the floor and Filch's quill and form. Another shot of one of the cool features about this vignette is the inclusion of a Power Function Light Brick. The Oil lamp, who hangs from the ceiling in the book, has been moved to a little stoned ledge. I made sure to include the Power Function to give the scene some extra creepiness. As the Office is situated on the ground floor, has only two small windows and as the weather is extremly rainy, we can assume the room is dark and chilly. And last but not least, the usual, In scene depiction of Filch pulling Harry into his office, swearing and cursing. I hope you enjoyed this litte vignette and please tell me what you think about it in the comment section below

Contest: The Underwater Version
Geertos13 replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
What a great idea for a contest! And awesome prizes too! I'm probably going to enter this, if I have enough bricks left! (using a lot for my Brickfilms at the moment) As for as the customising of a set goes, I understand that we need to recognise the original creation, but how far are we allowed to modify our creations? Should we just add specific underwater detail, or can we add or take away, some of the structure of the set? -
Like a few others, when I saw the first pictures I was "mmewh, It's alright, nice blue bricks" But then the fire and the inferi came in and I was b-l-o-w-n away! I love that you used these trans-orange wings and Dumbledore's hair is hilarious! But ingenious I have to admitt! The "Island" itself is wonderfully executed! And that is a big bunch of transparent bricks indeed! As much as I loved your depiction of the potion's bowl, simple yet effective, I would have preferred some color variation! I believe that you made this based on the movie, so I wasn't expectinga green glowing potion like in the book, but a dark black/purple like drink would have been accurate in my opinion. Then again, I don't see anyway of doing it, except maybe replacing that dish brick by another colored one. I like that you used a glass though, and not a weird seashell-shaped cup placed on top of the basin like in the movie. the ring of fire also rocks! A true shame that LEGO stopped making these hooked fire piece, because you just gave us proof of how useful they can be and how awesome the look! Great job overall, black inferi is a great idea too and the fire is defentaly the big + of this creation Keep on casting fire!

A Diagon Alley-like Hogsmead set would be wonderful indeed! Not only as a set, but also a great send off of the HP Line! Then again, I'd love to see more if possible of course! I think these three shops aren't a bad idea at all at all as these have been visited by our trio at least once in different movies of the series (films only). Shrieking Shack and Honeydukes in Prisoner of Azkaban, and The three broomsticks return in Half Blood Prince! I feel however, that either the Shrieking or Honeydukes might be replaced by the Hog's head as it has a very important part to play in the most, recent movies. Dumbledore's army meeting in Order of the Phoenix, Aberforth in Deathly Hallows. And we already had a quite good Shrieking Shack and Honeydukes' inside is pretty but Harry doesn't spend much time in there, even though it's his personnal way of getting into Hogsmeade in the first place! Then again, if these sets are to be made with the Hog's head I'd see this list of minifigures -Trio (duh ) -Aberforth -Mme Rosmerta -Slughorn (might be too long of a shot, but why not after all) -Hagrid -Fudge (possibly, not sure though if they'd make him) -And someone like Neville, for part of the DA meeting and the Deathly Hallows portrait meeting. Bringing the minifigures up to 9, reasonable, just like Diagon Alley I think that Rita Skeeter and Cho might be too much to ask, considering that neither of these have any business in Hogsmead (In the films) Except Cho if the Hog's head were to be made!

Aaah Nostalgia! I own this set. I got this set 10 years ago.. Man time flies! When I got this set, as I loved the Harry Potter books that came out by then (YES! I was a fan before the movies took over!) Anyways, I remember getting this set with the first Quidditch Practice set back then. And Oh my, it actually is horrible if we look back at it! When I got it, I truly loved it! and I still do, it brings back so many memories. And I think that's the power of this set! It might be old and not that well designed but it really was great in it's own way. And let's face it, back then, this set was pretty amazing when it first hit the shelves. And as I was around 10 or 11 years old when I got it, I remember loving all these play features! Just like ZO6 I felt like you were beeing slightly too critical with this set. Of course, I understand that it looks bad compared to what we have now, but I would have liked a review from a 2001 perspective. Then again, that might be just me beeing nostalgic Even though you looked at it from today's perspective, I think the size and all these play features must not be ignored and the playability defenatly deserved more than 7/10! But, you're the reviewer, so you decide! And with that in mind, I can only say that this is a great review, with awesome photography as usual and loads of humour

A new creation! I was already wondering when we'd see something new from you BaraSH Again, lovely little vignette, almost "as usual" I'd like to say! The mirror looks great! Much better than that crappy thing we got with the Battle for Hogwarts Set. A shame you couldn't fit in anything to make it look more mirror/windows like, but then again, I guess that just wasn't possible! I think the pictures would look better if we'd have Lily and James behind Harry, and not at his side as in the first picture, because we can't even see them! I don't really get the point of the turnable base. Is that just so we can see both sides if we want, or have a missed a hidden play feature? The figs look awesome too! Harry and Dumbledore, nothing really special there, but Lupin's suit looks great on James and Lily looks nice with Marion Ravenwood's torso. To make it short: awesome vignette with great and original way of creating a mirror like look! PS: You might want to find a hairpiece that covers up James' Scar

Hi there Greeny! A new harry Potter fan! Wouhouhou! Finally! Welcome on Eurobricks! I hope you'll enjoy yur stay here! Cheers!

I've got some news guys! Just like SBrown, I sent an email to the LEGO company with a few compliments and questions about the Harry Potter theme. My question about the future of the Harry Potter theme has also been answered, and even if there is still no real yes or no, I think it still sounds positive, read by yourself

10or is right! Just found some HD pictures of the new game, Sirius beeing so detailled sort of surprises me, but, after all, we may also assume the designers fo the game put extra effort in designing these again GET AWAY FROM MY GODSON! Also, some more pictures from IGN for the other years. Umbridge and her squad. A shot of Horace Slughorn's home.

This sounds pretty damn awesome! And pretty bad The thing is, they don't know if they will. They MAY (or may NOT) continue! So no big information there really.n Though, I feel like it "sounds" as if the person who wrote it, kind of wanted to show a bit of hope! But maybe that's just me reading things that are not there What do you think guys? As for myself, I'd actually love to see more HP s I keep my hopes up, for now!
-
Yeah I know Lupin's head looks defenatly good on him after the confrontation! Though while reading the book I always imagined him a bit more like this : If you have a Indiana Jones head, and you're willing to customise him a bit (nothing difficult, but quite important changes) You're more faithful to the film though, so both work

You need to decide where your loyalties lie...
Geertos13 replied to Geertos13's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks you for all the lovely comments guys! Hey there Elliott Griffiths! Glad you liked the creation! I am indeed doing a small, or big, don't know yet creation for each movie. I probably won't make the most famous ones, showdown with Quirrel, fighting the Basilisc, Freeying Sirius, Graveyard etc... But small creation that may, or may not be that important to the plot It is indeed Draco Malfoy's new face. The scared side that is! And yes, it actually is almost the same head, if not exactly the same! I'm glad you liked it And you're making a brickfilm? You should defenatly keep me updated about that! Thanks Lightingtiger! always a pleasure to see your comment appear on my creations! There's no need to overdo it though, one post will do -
I saw this thread a little while ago and though Oh awesome a shell cottage MOC! Then I saw it was a LDD and was Mweeh I'm just not into Lego Digital Desgner, though when I saw this, I though, this is good It has potential. When I saw that this had been "bumped" so to say, I however decided to go check the latest comments and I saw your lego version! IT IS AWESOME!! A wonderful creation with some great accuracy to the movie! The custom Bill looks actually pretty good! I don't mind the facial hair that much as I think it suits him with his long hair, though I would have gone for just some stupple, an Indiana Jones like head would be nice, for instance! Great creation and good job on recreating the scene! You might want to post these pictures also in the first part of the article, so that everybody sees the lego version when they enter the thread!

Well, not really proves! But, I know about Star Wars, of course that dictionary didn't announce an end, but it's star wars. But for me, when the HP dictionnary came, I was happy But I also though hmpff Because i knew that something like that makes it look like the end. I mean, one last, final review of all the sets and all the work the Lego Group has done. I sincerly hope I'm wrong, but we must face it, it is kind of announcing an end. Personaly I hoped, but had never expected a 2011 wave. I thought, alright it ends here, But then Diagon Alley was announced and everyting and I started hoping for more, then again I also realised that an exclussive set as Diagon Alley probably announced a good farewell to the theme. But my wishes were granted and three more sets made it into the shelves. So... we never know do we?

Looking amazing @l3x! this is actually the first time I visit this forum (I know --> Bad ) But I'm just not into these sort of figures, but today, as I was bored after almost two years on Eurobricks, I went into this and I stumbled on this amazing creation! I'm a complete noob in Hero Factory figures so maybe this is considered average or bad, but I think it is amazing! So, this might be an "unprofessional" comment, but it's right from the heart I have no idea if it is possible, but would there be any special possibility to make the ears round? Or at least a more circular shape? Once again, I'm totally a novice on the Hero Factory theme so then again I don't know what's possible or not, just speaking my mind Keep up the good building!
-
Oh Ok! cool! I'll keep checking it out! What sort of additions are you thinking of putting in? Or in this case, improvements, I thought the other one looked really nice, so In my opinion it will be hard to do any better, but that's what LEGO is all about after all
-
Never liked Cars that much, and I never saw what was so fun about it as a Lego theme, then again, that's just me. But I would understand if they kept the theme running, as it is a great license for kids. From experience, I know that Cars never gets old with kids My neighbour's son who I watched over one day, wanted to watch the movie three times a day The bad thing is : I had to watch it 3 times. That's probably also the reason I'm not that fond of cars anymore But anyways, back on track, I understand if they would keep Cars going, especially if LEGO does know a bit more about Pixars plans, and if they're planning, like toy story, to make a third movie. Then again, I read that Cars 2 was a slight disapointment both critically and financially. But let's face it, Cars stil has a lots of possibilities, and they still need to make the first entire film into lego! As for Princess theme, I'm really disapointed LEGO didn't go for system. Then again if we're to believe the rumours of course. I think they really missed a chance there, parents often buy duplo for young kids, and princess probably won't be an exception, though why won't it be possible to do a regular theme with it, with system! They might even have gotten more girls into lego system! A lost chance that is in my opinion
-
That's one good looking Tumbler! I'm not into Batman, like at all! Though all these different vehicles people come up with keeps impressing me! As TheLegoDr said, you're a lego builder, you can do anything, right? I understand though you'd like some sort of instructions! I just compared the two. Your creation ad the original builder surely look close! did you want to make an exact replica, or have you tried to give it your own twist?
-
That is one hell of a MOC It's truly amazing! And huge on top of that! I am not too familiar with the real thing, so I went to look up some pictures and it's pretty close!! I love the colors you threw in, as the real thing isn't as cheerful as that! I like that you didn't just stop at the station but actually built a bit around it! That's cool! Then again, when one makes such a project, we can expect to have more then just one building! Your attention to detail, your building techniques and style truly make this one of the best train stations I've seen so far! I am not that much in the train forums as I'm more into Licensed sets, but I now realise what I miss when not visiting it! Exited to see some more of this and of your work!
