  1. My son and I presented at brickfair alabama last month. He wanted to display his minecraft and castle MOC's, so I went with your theory, build something big to attract attention and then put the smaller things on the sides. It worked perfectly, we built an 8ftx 3ft battle of hoth scene which was a crowd puller. People spend more time looking at big scenes and then notice the smaller ones. We are now scaling up Hoth for the next one, planning in 12ftx 5ft :) Have fun, listen to the advice of making it 'modular' for easy transportation
  2. My son and I are hoping that the 2015 releases will be much better than the nindroids.
  3. Welcome. I love reading about others who 'took a break' through college, marriage, kids and then like me have found their way tk the promised land. I just started using technic pieces to build frames of large buildings and then finishing with bricks, just like real houses, it's a fun technique
  4. Welcome! You are right, we hit our 30's and all of a sudden we can buy what we like! Haha. That's exactly how I feel, I had 4 brothers and never had a completed set growing up, now I am able to build what I want when I want! My kids love it just as much as I do and I think they really enjoy knowing that they can pretty much find any piece they need, so there is no limit to their creativity! Have fun
  5. Cheers guys. Yeah I like to go big or go home. I had about 1k parts already and $700 finished off the rest of the parts, sans expensive rigging and dish. I've only just discovered lego forums after being a fan for years so I have a feeling I'll end up spending a lot more money because of this: Really like seeing all the ideas and MOCs on here
  6. Hi! Living in Alabama USA for England. Love this forum, finally joined, my son and I are working on some cool Star Wars MOC's, I just bricklinked a 10179, now waiting for the parts to come in. My daughter and I have just received the first Elves sets and LOVE it. We built a custom Elsa castle that LegoIdeas rejected. Lots of fun in our lego house!
  7. Hi! First post here on Eurobricks after lurking for a while. Love all the info on 10179 and I am pleased to say this post as well as the pretty sure confirmation there will be no UCS MF this year I went ahead and purchased all the parts I needed to make this. I had spent a week sorting through my sons lego pieces and I had approx 1k pieces to start with. After 6 hours brick linking last night and paying PayPal invoices today, I purchased around 4k of the pieces I need for a little bit less than $700 shipped! I left out the gray rigging as I am going to do the afterburner mod, left the gray on gray antennas and the big printed dish. I changed some colours, but not many of internal technic pieces and am looking forward to watching mr mailman/woman deliver all my parts next week so that I can start building. I had a total of 20 orders and cannot wait to build this. I certainly am not going to have a mint 10179, but it will be close enough to satisfy my son and I and fit nicely into the Hoth MOC we are building. Cheers people, happy to share pics or info if needed.
