Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Hemlock Falls replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Having all but 2 modulars set up in a scene all together (except for MS and TH), when I look at the whole town the CG actually stands out as one of my favorite designs. No one seems to agree with that kind of opinion, because up close it’s a little more flawed than others, I guess. I don’t really see why everyone dislikes it so much. AS and GG are my other favorites. I was super disappointed when DD came out, because it looks like a Friends set on steroids, but I’ve grown to accept it. PC, to me, is the biggest eye sore of the series. It was the first modular I built, because my brother just left it at my house. I never really liked it. im excited to see what’s next tho. -
I don’t mind the studs, it’s Lego. i spent about a year and a half tacking on a grey baseplate or two to my BrickLink orders if the store had them cheap. And now I’m happy with it and glad I did. I had a plan at one point using the black minifigs stands to “pave” the roads, but I would need about 200 times as many as I have to do the whole city.
-
i was using painted plywood for a while, but the grey base plates just look so much better.
-
Neither, I just use dark bluish grey base plates and white/yellow tiles. Works fine for me.

long story short...in 1980 I was 5, my parents never bought me many toys, somebody got me a 10” Boba Fett figure. My dad got drunk and broke his head off (he was an abusive dude) I was scared but a couple days later I asked him to fix it. He used scotch tape to try to fix it. That was probably my first lesson in being really disappointed in a person. So anyways, now he’s dead and I’ve been collecting all this Boba Fett stuff. It means a lot to me.

Show Your Army, Navy, and Collection Display
Hemlock Falls replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree, I tried that at first, but it’s such a large ship it blocked the view of anything under or behind it. When I make a larger scene I’ll keep that in mind. I have almost no room for anything on land anymore, and it’s incredibly dense. It was my daughters Harry Potter table, but she grew out of it. -

Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars

Thanks. not to wear out my welcome already, but could someone maybe direct me to where would be a cool spot to show off some photos of my SW collection? Or is that frowned upon here? I never know.- 127 replies

Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
Hemlock Falls replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I was kind of just joking. I don’t put clones with stormtroopers. Don’t take me seriously. I wouldn’t make my first post in the Star Wars forum just to piss people off. I just thought it would fit in a thread called “unpopular opinions”. I did think clones were the original stormtroopers and they definitely look like them (I don’t care what anyone says). But that’s cause I’ve never seen clone wars, but now I’d like to. After playing battlefronts 1 & 2, and buying several CW era LEGO ships, I feel like I need to update my knowledge of that part of the saga. Where is the best place to find all the seasons? I have Disney+ and Netflix and stuff, but it’s not as easy to find as I thought it would be.- 127 replies

Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
Hemlock Falls replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi, I’m new in the Star Wars forum, but I bet I have a really unpopular opinion.... Call me naive, but I was 5 when ESB came out, so I grew up with the OT story. I was in college when PT movies started coming out, So yeah, I wasn’t really too into it. All I remember was they introduced clones in one movie, then turned them into bad guys (killing all the Jedi) almost immediately. Within one movie anyways. So I always considered clones to be just older stormtroopers with sillier costumes. I missed out on the clone wars cartoons, cause I was an adult starting a career and a family. It wasn’t until this year that I learned thru lego that many people consider clones to be good guys, and that they’re so emphatically passionate about them. I just put them in with the storm troopers cause from more than 3 feet away they visually fit right in.- 127 replies

About 5 years ago some friends from work pitched in and got me the Foxy Blocks gentlemen’s club (I forgot where they got it from but it was like $300). I always meant to build a modular building around it, but just haven’t gotten to it yet.

I picked it up at the Lego store in Rochester, NY in 2017 when the jungle line came out. They had like 3 of them.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Hemlock Falls replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I actually live a few blocks away from that Niagara Mohawk building, in Syracuse, NY. I always thought if I ever did try to create an MOC modular based on anything local, there’s no question that would be the first building I try. -

What was your favourite LEGO set released in 2017
Hemlock Falls replied to McLaren97's topic in LEGO Town
I agree, I really dig the ford gts. Also the orange mclaren for the SC line. I really love the entire city jungle line, and oddly enough one of my favorite sets of the year was Master Wu Falls (the only ninjago set I've ever gotten) because it fits perfectly with the rest of the jungle sets. I haven't gotten it yet (wife got it for me for Xmas) but I'm really looking forward to the Fishing Store. To answer the question though, my favorite set of the year has got to be Assembly Square. I thoroughly enjoyed putting that together with my wife, it probably took almost a week. Every time I glance at it in my layout I still get caught up in checking out all the details. I love the scale and the 48 stud wide footprint of it. It's not my all time favorite modular building, but I'm pretty sure it is my favorite set from 2017. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Hemlock Falls replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I never said I thought it was "girly" it just looks like a really expensive Friends set. If you don't think it looks Friendly then you're delusional. It might as well come with minidolls. It's not the pink I don't like, it's the overall pink, turquoise, yellow Friends colors. It's cool if they want to move in a new direction with the modulars, maybe in five years this one will fit in with the subsequent sets but right now this one sticks out. I know I'm not the only one who thinks so, but I can see why people who feel the same way would be hesitant to comment here. You get criticized and called "juvenile" for having an adverse opinion on something in a thread called "Modular Building Sets-Rumors and DISCUSSION". What kind of discussion can you have if everyone just agrees with each other? Is this a bee colony or the Borg where everyone has to be on the same page? If there were 10 AFOLs in a room, in person, and we saw this photo, I'd like to think I could express my reaction. It's an opinion, you can disagree with it, but it's not wrong. I truly hope this is fake, but maybe I'm hoping for a snow day in June. Every year my wife will get me what ever modular is released for my birthday, and it's nice to look forward to it. I can't look forward to this. There's always someone's opinion to make remarks about too. I commented almost immediately upon seeing this photo that I hoped the pieces making up the sign and arch are available in other colors. I'm an adult, and I love Lego. I obsess over it and I've collected over $10,000 worth in the past 3 years (mostly gifts because everyone who knows me knows this is what I want). But I don't feel like an AFOL at all. This entire website has made me feel like I'm doing it wrong somehow, right from the start. I'm an artist, an art teacher and a scenic director, I build stages for musicals at work, by myself. The lumber for the table I display my Lego on is made from past stages. I don't MOC, I don't have time to and I spend my entire days being creative. There's nothing I love more than getting a big Lego set, opening a beer, putting on a record and not thinking about having to come up with anything, It's relaxing and meditative to just mindlessly follow the instructions and add to my collection. My wife and daughter do it with me and it beats going to a movie or anything else. But that seems to be frowned upon here. As much as I'd love to design my own building, maybe if I was a teenager with no job or girlfriend I could, but the rest of my family isn't going to just hang out while I spend dozens of hours in the basement with my Lego. I haven't really posted much here this year, or last year, until this week (except when I put a lot of effort into my display table and nobody cared). I'm really starting to think this isn't the place for me. I really hope this doesn't erode my passion for Lego, and since nobody I know in the real world is into it like me, I guess I'll be alone with it. Thanks for the negativity. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I don't think I could be more disappointed, unless it actually came with minidolls. It looks like a Friends set on steroids or an allergic reaction to a bee sting. I'll probably get it, but it'll go in the back row with the cinema. Maybe 2019 will be better. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Honestly, I can't picture those colors next to any of the former modulars, except maybe the bank (because it's white). I hope the pieces that make up the letters and the arch are available in other colors. I do kind of like the car though. I mean, it's not even a great City line car, but if you're gonna do a diner, 50s or 80s, pink cadillacs are the quintessential ride. -

Most of them have sides with very little to offer visually. I'm often finding it a challenge to figure out which one to put PR next to, maybe this'll be it. I picture a 50's diner with red white and chrome or something, these are Miami Vice colors for certain. More colors is great, but I feel like this will stick out like a purple dinosaur. -

Brickset is calling 10260 a "{Diner}" not sure if they know any more than anyone else about the legitimacy of the photo. Everyone seems to be loving it. I think I'll need some time to absorb what's good about it. Dig the diner, but the colors? I'm not sure. Like trying to force a Friends set into a regular city. I kind of hope this is fake. I don't know, maybe it'll grow on me. Still way better than Ninjago City. -

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Hemlock Falls replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I really don't like these new "modular"houses and stuff. They're very flimsy and lack the aesthetic value of earlier houses like the Apple Tree House and Hillside House. The open backs are lame. I truly hope lego abandons this vein of houses. To stay on the topic of this thread, It makes me very sad to consider the possibility that the Ninjago modular is this year's installment. It just looks obnoxious and stupid. If Assembly Square is the end of the modular family, I think my disappointment in lego would be overwhelming. To add to the sentiment of an earlier post, I know everyone can see a difference in scale between the first 5 or so modulars and the more recent ones, but I agree that this is a natural looking cityscape of varying size and style buildings. I think they all look quite well together. The only ones I am not in love with is the Palace Cinema and that weird, blue Market Street (which I will never pursue getting). I have 2 PCs (one rebuilt and the comedy club from BCD), but it never looks quite right when I rearrange my city. I often try to hide it in the back somehow. I guess if lego forsakes the modular theme (not the crappy "modular" houses), I'm just going to have to finally break down and try designing my own or let the ones I have get all dusty and neglected until I try to sell them someday. -
So, vips can order now, so I did, but what does "in by null" supposed to mean?

I thought that this would be worth sharing... Things at Hemlock Falls have been slightly redesigned. IMG_0160 I've added some surface area to the table, equalling now exactly 100 baseplates (83 1/3 square feet, i think). There's still a lot to do, but I thought that this was a big step. IMG_0176 This end goes as far as it can without being hit by the door. The extension is s'posed to be like an amusement park sort of thing. This end has become my daughter's realm. IMG_0162 It's set up so that everything is easy to reach and play with, meant to be less rigid than my neighborhood. I put down green paper because I can't right now spend $100 on baseplates, and she likes to move things around which is easier when not pegged down. This area is meant to be carefree and fun. It's also much more well lit here. IMG_0163 Next to that is like a rural area. Behind the farm and train station I am going to make a forest that segues to the jungle (where this summer's line up will fit in perfectly), The hill up the back will be wooded and lead up to the camping sort of area, and colder environment. IMG_0164 Then, of course, is the waterfall (which is just about the only thing here I can say I built myself). I do want to get into making my own modular buildings, but I don't have a ton of leisure time, what time I do have to spend on Lego building has been spent here on this waterfall, and building the table to display it all. I've added some blue to give me more nautical space. IMG_0166 This is a view of the gap. My hope is that the way the water spreads to both sides of the corner implies that the gap is some sort of lake separating the land masses. I thought about making flaps that fold up with blue baseplates glued to them, maybe someday. It's important to me to be able to reach everything, so this is kind of an immersive place to be, surrounded by Lego on all sides, without having to duck under anything. It's hard to get a photo of how cool that looks. IMG_0167 ...and then there's this. The main reason I built this extension was because Lego (especially the modulars) are three dimensional by nature. The way I had it set up was difficult to see more than one angle of any building, some I hardly saw at all. You need to be able to move around and see more of the pieces otherwise a good portion of their aesthetic value is wasted. IMG_0173 The older part of the table makes a cool background for the new peninsula. The end of the table is going to be like a park in this city. IMG_0171 Then there's a little suburb behind the city, with some room for development (meaning the new creator houses coming out later this year, and possible an older one or two) IMG_0170 When you first walk through the door into this room, you're immediately looking down this street. It makes for a nice first impression. So, there's my falls. I welcome any feedback, and I apologize if i think this is cooler than it really is. IMG_9640 Also, I have a ton of these minifig stands, and was trying to find a use for them. I will eventually try to pave my whole city with something like this. I need to find a way to make the modular curbs higher than the street without rebuilding them just to add a layer of plates. IMG_9906 And I found out that Lego doesn't really look that cool under a blacklight. IMG_9905 'cept the dragon. he's cool
