  1. I built a replica of 42065 and I can confirm it is very smooth and fast. The pully wheels are the only wheels that "touch the ground" and they are on the edge of the tracks where they are smooth. https://m.flickr.com/photos/129879817@N08/30901684041/
  2. A problem that would take more than 6 months to fix? That I doubt highly.
  3. My guess as to why TLG canceled the fire truck was: - With just a hose on top it was lacking enough functions. - They didn't want to saturate their 2016 2H sales. Hopefully they will release an improved version in 2017. With a lift (taller than we've seen before). Yeah, I love the lift on my 8292.
  4. I agree on both counts. I think a lift (8289, 8292) but a bit bigger, like the scale of 8053, with out riggers. That would be awesome.
  5. I was looking forward to the fire truck. My dream would be a lift style truck, like 8289. I'm kinda sad they canceled it. http://www.technic-sets.com/lego-technic-42051-airport-rescue-vehicle/
  6. It's true TLG doesn't show technic commercials on tv here in the USA. They show plenty of ninjango, etc... I think culturally most teens in the USA have outgrown Lego. Then re-discover Lego technic as adults. ;)
  7. Same reason why zebras have stripes. To confuse predators, they can't easily spot one Zebra to chase down in the heard. Btw releasing this model with these stickers is silly and it won't ever happen. It doesn't look good, it's not meant to look good. It's easy to see the panels/ profile of the car. It's just to generate publicity.
  8. With double shocks in the rear, it must be supporting the added weight of a battery box and motors. As for being too large for RC, I disagree. My unimog has tons of power with a single XL motor. 2 L motors would be plenty for power and speed for this Porsche. It's still a Lego model, they wouldn't gear it to be too fast or it would shatter if it hits a wall. My guess: RC drive, steer, transmission, suspension up and down, using two remotes like 8043. Using PF2?
  9. You can also see metallic silver ribbed hoses behind the tail lights suggesting there is something to look at when you open the rear compartment. I guess there is a battery box and an engine?
  10. I'm loving the Porsche, probably the only set I will get. The BWE is just too big. Where do keep such a thing?? I hope the Porsche is not black. Black hides the geometry, makes it hard to see its details. Orange with black trim is my hope. But please not red! The fender panels are kinda like cheating, imho. I love having a great B model. I fear there will be no B model for the Porsche. Lastly, I hope the final will look as good or better than what we see now. They drove the sex appeal into the ground from the prelim to the final on 42039. Sometimes I think they are too close to it to tell the difference. It was obvious to all of us.
  11. 8288 crawler crane. I saw it on Amazon in 2007 and bought it. It had been 7 years since I bought any kind of lego set. Been re-addicted ever since.
  12. Here's a few more pics and a video of my 42042 replica in action! https://flic.kr/s/aHsk8di3t7
  13. Once you have a boom that big, you need the rest of it to be to scale. Simple explaination for its size. It really doesn't have that much free room inside except for behind the cab. It's also pretty heavy as it has a lot of large beams that make up it's piece count. The battery box is indeed way in the back to act as a counter weight. It is extremely well balanced. It doesn't lean with the boom all the way up or down. Technically it has the same number of functions as 8043. (Well, I guess it has 5 or 6 depending on how you look at it). 42042 has 4 functions, 2 can be used at once. If you count the fact that forward and reverse are included without a remote and IR, it's more. Obviously the crawler only uses one L motor (which does strain a bit when driving and rotating at the same time). Lastly, TLG are not done designing this thing. Look at what happened to 42039 from the preliminary version.
  14. I don't own 42006 or I would have included it in the pic.
  15. The crawler is demonstrating it's dominance. :p. It weighs in at 1428 pieces. I'm close!
  16. My red version, with it's decedents. It works great, I love this thing!!
  17. There are a minimum of 30 15L beams and 19 7L beams in blue. So far the colors seem to be: 15L Blue 13L DBG, White 11L Blue, DBG, Black 9L LBG 7L Blue, White 5L Black 3L Blue, white 2L DBG 1L DBG. (New ring) Angled beams come in blue and white.
  18. I've been busy reverse engineering this bad boy. I can say for sure the turntable is the same size and has the same connection points as the old one.
  19. I would love a better look at the tracks, inside and outside. As well as a good peek inside with the cab lifted up to see the engine and turntable. Thank you. ;)
  20. Oh, I didn't know it had a L6 engine. I can't see it in any of the videos. Where is it exactly?
  21. Anyone know why he demonstrates the cabin tilting up? Is there a function hidden in there?
  22. I also think the grabber claw doesn't work well for the B model. Something like 8053 B model would be nice.
  23. I agree, It is hard to believe the trolley is not motorized. It would be very easy using a fixed length of string and those pully wheels seen in the A model. I would have preferred they kill the tracks, make it stationary and make it taller. The tracks could be pinned together to make counter weights at the base. Why are these early pics processed blurry and low res?! I mean you have to bring the pic into photoshop to make it look like that. :p
  24. Ive been working on my version of this in red-black. I have been thinking forward about how I would further motorize/remote this baby once I get the real thing. I've come to the conclusion I will not mod the final any further as I think it is perfect as it is. If we add one motor to make it 2 motors, you could drive it with steering, then switch by hand to control the boom and winch. Then... Add a fifth drive ring / manual switch to have a motor drive rotation?? Naaa. 3 motors won't help anything as you would need another IR receiver, and still have to switch by hand. 4 motors would just be replicating 8043. The 2, 4-position transmission is awesome. Having these 4 features (drive forward and back, rotate, boom, winch) are perfect for hands-on play. Since it moves so slow the drive function is all you would want. Steering with this setup would just result in spinning in place anyway.
