  1. Hmm.. in minifig scale this would likely be bigger then any set Lego ever offered or likely will offer. 6-7 feet long perhaps? And to make is smaller would end up looking more like a chibi flying lifeboat. Although it is not in my interest range I think it manages to pull off exactly what it's trying to, a display model of an enormous flying aircraft carrier in a size that is actually manageable to move around and display in an average house and cheap enough that they will sell more then a couple. The inclusion of the minifigs seems to be more of a gesture of including a portion of the kit that can interact with the rest of your collection instead of including minifigs to interact with the helicarrier itself. Chris
  2. That looks great :) Might I ask what printer you used? Chris
  3. Thank you greatly for those Israel Hands :) Chris
  4. I apologize for the bump of this topic but I am inquiring if anyone has access to the missing sail scans. Some of the library contents seems to have indefinitely checked out ;) I am almost done bricklinking the classic ships and the scans would be helpful. Chris
  5. I second this post, I have been bricklinking the classic ships and really need to print up.... all of them :) (although I think these posts might go better IN the post about the sail scans... I think I will post there too) Chris
  6. I second Faefrost's idea. Some cheap clear polycarbonate clips screwed to the wall to hold the mirror on would work well. Chris
  7. Thanks! That was it.. kind of wish the detail drawings had outlines those dark brown pieces are somewhat hard to see in the instructions :) It is odd that LDD accepts it as a legal connection though I can't wait to actually build the set, but I can't build the ship until next week. I got it for myself for a birthday present in a somewhat unusual ebay auction I also got Benny's spaceship and.. wow. Chris
  8. I just started on the first bag from my LEGO sea cow set and everything went LEGO fantastic until I got to Metalbeard's foot. On step 14 sub-steps 4 5 and 6 it has you place a pearl gold 4073 1x1 stud between the two reddish brown 47905 1x1 bricks with two side studs before attaching two dbg 50950 3x1 slopes to the side. I do not find this possible, without the stud the pieces will fit but the gap is too narrow between the bricks, with the stud the outermost brick fowls on the ridges inside of the slopes? I can make the parts fit in LDD but the way they do seem impossible in real bricks. (pic shows the slot in the bottom of the foot with the stud missing) Chris
  9. Mast base is actually the same piece as the much maligned LEGO Juniors Captain Readbeards Pirate ship. Of which there has been complaints in reviews that the mast base is not very stable. Chris
  10. One thing you could do is play around a bit in the Lego Digital Designer, while it is not perfect you could try out some designs from the official ship instructions and find out the techniques you like the most. The one big downside to LDD is the lack of the older pirate ship hull pieces, I have taken a design a fellow member did for a small hulled ship and made some mock-up parts for the larger ships as well... I have actually built all the classic ships in LDD for the heck of it ;) While it is not as "tactile" or "fun" as a bucket of bricks.. it can save money on bricks you don't really need :) old LEGO pirate ship hull pieces Chris
  11. If I were to 'glue' my bricks together I would probably use one of the Shoegoo family of products sparingly, they hold strongly but are removable given enough effort and once removed don't leave any stain on the surfaces... It is however a bit thick :) It is kind of like rubber cement extreme. Chris
  12. That impatience tax on them is high... I think I will wait until they are available at retail!! lol
  13. +1 It would be a good excuse for a pirate ship or two as well... I would be all over a set from that movie. Chris
  14. Yeah yeah.. color was wrong in the first one.. and a couple other things :) in v2 The parts next to the ship will not fit into the ship: -the red notched axle 2 will not go far enough into mast top in the bowsprit to allow the angled Technic connector to fit at the same time as the two light gray 2x2 inverted slopes. -the chest is supposed to go in the hidden hatch under the table with the bottle on it in the main cabin but I left it out for.. um.. so you could see it? -the one cannon in the hull only fits because I turned the cheese block in the one gun port around, otherwise the cannons would not fit even at max elevation. -the 4 dark tan round plates at the intersection of the masts "6096108" had to be substituted with 2x2 plates and 2x2 corner plates as it did not exist in LDD -I did not model the rowboat or the minifigs... people know what they look like :p
  15. You could probably squeak by with something like a Renegade Runner for about that price, although you could also probably buy a used Renegade Runnerset for that as well. I am just out of my dark ages due to a box of old Lego in my attic, I realized I always wanted the old pirate ships... so I am bricklinking all 7 of them (about 90% done :p) I am also in the process of buying a couple K.O. sets which mostly fall in your price range and are complete. They are sacrilege of sorts but you might want to look at them if budget is an issue... I can't wait for the 307.. biggest small hull set I have seen heh. Chris
  16. I just built the bounty in LDD... because I was bored ;) I must say, the bounty is ok-ish, I like the extending plank from the side but am not a fan of the masts from the Lego juniors Redbeards Pirate Ship being used, the 2x4 base worries me somewhat from the reviews I have read on that ship. The hidden pirate chest is a neat touch, much more secure then tossing the chest in an empty cabin! lol I found the 1x2 cheese slopes as instructed in the cannon ports would not let me place the cannons unless I turned the cheese slopes around. It's the first pirate series ship that has the clipped stern that the Lego Black Pearl has which makes it stand out a little, plus or minus? Eh... It's up for debate. It looks like a ship built in the same shipyard by the same men as Brickbeards Bounty but it is different enough. Still don't like the look of the masts... but I still can't wait to buy one or two. Chris Edit: if someone has a place to put the lxf file I can email it to them heh.
  17. My first post on Eurobricks (I think) I thought I would post up a couple parts I have modified and built to assist me making LDD models with the old pirate hull types. I can not claim to be the ultimate creator of these hull parts as they came from Marco999's wonderfull renegade runner model here: http://www.eurobrick...300#entry877255 I did however take and carefully peel away the rest of the bricks and then modify the design into the large hull type. The horrid colors are hopefully to allow easy part selection when you are recoloring the bricks :) old pirate ship mock up parts.lxf Here is a picture of the large hulls being used to model the Caribbean Clipper Chris p.s. Doh I just noticed the sides of the large rear hull were not colored right.. doh
