[MOC] UCS Nebulon-b frigate (by Dranac, feat. onecase))
Kristof replied to Dranac's topic in LEGO Star Wars
This moc seems to have passed along without me noticing. Good that people still comment on this. Excellent model! -
Very solid model. I like it and I like even more the effort that went to making the instructions kind of manually! Kudos and good job!

First glance it looks pretty similar to the playsets, maybe the panels looks a bit more polished and smoother. One thing I certainly don't like and would be definitely against is putting the round plates underneath the sensor (or deflector?) domes on the bridge. It makes them stick out way to much up and it magnifies how they angle off to the sides. Besides that its some decent looking ISD there :)

Reading the author's post a bit more carefully will reveal you the truth! :D

^ Thanks. That's actually exactly the same length as my model :D Sigh. I would have hoped the scale is the same. I might build yours nonetheless, it just looks too good!

PRESS RELEASE for LEGO 75222 - Betrayal at Cloud City Announcement
Kristof replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Alright! I mean, it's cool to get positively excited :D Maybe a lot of us miss on some joy by being too critical. I personally don't dislike the set from a core SW fan standpoint, but more visual and set-design standpoint. For SW fan, it actually has a lot to offer and if you are into reenacting the scenes from the movie, that's probably the biggest strength of this set anyway. My major complaint is the overall looks, which seems to be very far down on the priority list of this set and I think it's wrong, because, playset or not, you will end up having this on display, at least for the time you aren't playing with it, and as such it just doesn't look remotely good for me. -
I wouldn't bother - they aren't passing SW based models through and if they do, they wouldn't accept it in review. it could only possibly serve as another platform to get publicity for the model :) Nonetheless, I am sure this will get popular on it's own. I can see it being blogged and stuff. Btw how long is the ISD in studs? I wonder how does it translate to my Venator in terms of scale.

Your mod's are so good that now, honestly, the original lego cockpit kind of bugs me how inaccurate it is :D

This might be my favourite MOC of 2018 yet! It looks fantastic. I would honestly love to have this on display! Also let me compliment on your pictures. They are so good I immediately hear the sharp tones of jedha music from the rogue one! :D And it's great news you are making instructions!

That's neat! Could you please not quote the images? It clutters the thread so much.

PRESS RELEASE for LEGO 75222 - Betrayal at Cloud City Announcement

I very much agree. The thing is your quick mockup for remodel ALREADY looks 100 times better than the set, because of the floorplan that actually approximates a circle, rather than Lego TERRIBLE angular... thing. Also I agree on the landing pad being off to the side. All in all, just like this I would be much more inclined to liking the set! -
Looks really nice! It almost giver me similar vibe as Jerac mocs, while it seems quite a bit more conventional and hence user and swoosh friendly. Good job!

Is it really? I am always honestly surprised by these very saturated comments, whether solely negative or solely positive, with a set like this, which I personally perceive as kind of *meh*... it has plenty of both good and bad aspects. I would be interested in why do you find it so cool, maybe I am really missing some point :) -
^^ If you suffer from lack of good indoor lighting, try taking a pic outdoors on some reasonably bright day. It works out quite good.

^ Thats a difficult build especially for less experienced lego fan, kudos to her haha :D I mean, yeah, I am sure there is enough give to create that fraction of a millimeter extra space you need. I am not sure if i'd notice myself!

My explanation would be that it is much easier to gain the required 'bend' in parts on the wider span of the actual build, than how it is when you rig up the technically same layout but with the technic brick braces much closer to the problematic spot. Honestly it surprises me that Jang spotted that by having to wedge the part in there so much. But then again, he has a ton of experience building sets, more than most of us anyway, so things that don't feel absolutely right may be amplified for him :D Myself though I would have hated the feeling that there is a thing like that in my model, should that actually be the case :D
-
Check the VIDEO. I don't think he's wrong. Certainly the build he came up with as a demonstration of the case DOES involve wrong geometry. Let me know how the mod goes if you decide to do it ;)
-
Just in case this has not been discussed or solved earlier. Jangbricks in his review pointed out possible design flaw in the viaduct connection, suggesting illegal connections. Now he released a new video expanding on that issue. I don't own the set but according to what I see on pictures and in Jang's video it occurs to me that it is just a result of a mistake in hinge plate placement, that can be easily solved by simple mod. I suggest you to watch Jang's videos, otherwise this contraption may look out of place to you Hogwarts castle viaduct solution by Krištof Pučejdl, on Flickr I do not own the set as I can't afford it by huge margin, so I can not guarantee that you can actually modify it easily. Maybe there will be some other pieces along the height of the viaduct that get in a way and maybe (just guessing) that was the reason designer decided to go dark side to solve it. Also there are other ways to orient the hinge plates so it would still work. Anyway. the moral of the story is that you can achieve the correct geometry quite simple. [EDIT] I would love to hear from someone who can try the modification whether it's easy to do. I don't have time to look up the instructions for the set and build the mockup of the whole section. Maybe it requires significant changes to the viaduct edge or the wall where it connects...

It's so cool how talented builders like you can completely twist the perception of a part. Up until this moment, for me, stud shooters were a design obstruction, a necessary evil in play sets. Best case they would be neatly hidden away so they don't show on the model. Now I am going to collect them and use them for the pattern because you opened my eyes :D

So Matt I have heard you on BTB talking about your work on the Home One. Any chance some WIPs could... leak? :D :D Also I was wondering if you're only into original trilogy stuff or what are the odds you ever build something from say prequels?

^ I am quite certain the usage of magnets in a way of holding panels like old SD is obsolete. Nothing suggests LEGO would go back to such practice since it has been over a decade since the last time magnet bricks were used in a standard set as some sort of connection point. -
Te submarine is marvelous! Anyone building it irl?
-
Where do you buy your enormous persistence?! I would make a bulk purchase :D These builds are cool but that aspect is almost somewhat dwarfed by the very fact you are still keeping up the pace on this project :O
