Yes, I've built 10030. To me at least, just doubling the hull plating doesn't add a lot of value. Simply adding pieces to increase the count and weight of a set doesn't necessarily increase the value of a set. When I compare 10179 to the new MF I see a massive increase in quality that justifies the increase in cost. Enough that I will eventually buy one and retire my 10179.
-
I didn't forget inflation. The set has more than 50% more parts but is nearly the same size. What are you really getting for the extra 1600 pieces? You have to look at value. Outside of the bridge there's arguably less greebling, though I think it looks better.
-
It's definitely an aesthetic improvement over the old 10030 and it looks fantastic, but lets do some comparing here: 10030 - 2002 Release, 3096 pieces, $298 retail. 9.6 cents pp 75252 - 2019 Release, 4784, $699 retail. 14.6 cents pp. They're pretty close to the same size, so it's not as if the new one has tons of extra huge pieces. I just don't see the justification for such a huge increase in price. The falcon got you a legitimately nice interior and a slew of minifigs; it's the holy grail of Star Wars. If you're going to shell out that kind of money, I think taking a look at Onecase's Monarch is worth your consideration. But again, a very nice set and I'm happy for those who are excited to get it.

Does (not) enjoying a movie/series influence your purchase decisions?
Schneeds replied to Flieger's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It sure does. There's a reason I have not, nor will I ever, buy a set from the sequel trilogy. As far as I'm concerned, when that light saber got tossed it stopped being Star Wars. You can't let the Disney stuff rob you of the joy the originals. Just do what I do: don't even acknowledge the sequel trilogy as true Star Wars or canon. -
ISD Aggressor (Star Destroyer MOC w interior and instructions)

Mother of God, how do you continue to build on this magnitude of amazingness? I assume you're going to make a dedicated post showing off the Calamari? Corellian Corvette or Venator would be good options for the next masterpiece :) -
Yeah those engines are excellent. Gives a lot of texture and realism which wasn't really present in the films.

[INSTRUCTIONS] Executor class Star Dreadnought

What Jolly said. Lego used a mixture in their official 10221 and I always thought it looked odd. If the entire city was dark gray there would be far too much contrast. Looking at the original, it's hard to tell if they used a darker shade or if it's just the lighting.- 127 replies

Outstanding as usual. I wouldn't expect anything less. How wide is the model? I'm wondering if it will fit in my display cabinet, my Brickwright Y-wing just baaarely fits :)

Definitely going to have to build this at some point. Quick question, what is the distance from stand-end to stand-end. As in, what is the minimum length of a shelf required to display it? -
[MOC] The apex of my 40 year journey to perfect the Lego T-65B X-Wing

That's a hell of an introduction. An incredible version; worthy of a top three contender. The nose and fuselage are especially well done. Very slick. -
Ok, mad respect for Jerac after that video. That level of durability for a build that accurate is insane.
-
I was barely able to fit all the pieces spread out on an 8x11 rug. So that gives you an idea of the space you will need :)

Inthert's was built before Jerac's, so you can go back and forth on credit all day long. Looks great, especially the wings.

Imperial Star Destroyer Intimidator MOC-77525

This just exploded on scene out of nowhere! Outstanding job what a massive masterpiece. I like that you went with the ANH version; this is worthy of the Devastator! -
As someone who has built both the Aggressor and Onecase's Executor, you can't go wrong with either choice. Both are superb builders who make incredible designs. In terms of the Aggressor vs the Monarch, I think it depends on what you put the most emphasis on. The Monarch looks to be almost perfect in terms of scale and proportions. It has that ultra slim, razor look. The down side of that is I don't know if the greebling stands out as much (if you love greebles like I do). The Aggressor on the other hand, is a bit beefier for having an interior, and the greebling really pops, though the proportions are not as accurate. You do get a really sweet interior though. In my opinion, Onecase's style for the Executor was perfection; the best rendition I've seen at any piece count. For the ISD, I prefer the style of the Aggressor just for the fun factor. You can't go wrong :)

SB00301 B-PROJECT (MOC Resistance Bomber UCS)

Too bad the movie wasn't a fraction as amazing as this beauty. It feels like you can see the rivets. Wonderfully made. -
I'm not a fan of the ship within the Star Wars universe, but your build itself is excellent. The 'struts' with the wedges to recreate the bladed parts look great. The cockpit looks awesome as well. I'll second Hollander; I know I'm going to be impressed before I even load the link :)

ISD Aggressor (Star Destroyer MOC w interior and instructions)
Schneeds replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Whatever the cause, you definitely can no longer simply use the easy buy function without drastically over paying. Back when I built the Aggressor, the easy buy function came up with a nearly identical price that I was able to achieve manually. More recently with Onecase's Executor, it was nearly $700 more. The method I used was to start at the top selecting the stores with the greatest number of lots and just compare the totals. It's not a perfect method since the lots types differ, from store to store but at least you can a relative cost per brick number. -
[INSTRUCTIONS] Executor class Star Dreadnought

If you're planning on using Bricks & Pieces, just beware that the graphic for the Clips is wrong; and they are actually shipping the new version even if the picture shows the old verison. I had ordered some as the cost of the old version can be on the high side, but discovered upon arrival that Lego is actually selling only the new ones.- 127 replies

[INSTRUCTIONS] Executor class Star Dreadnought
Schneeds replied to onecase's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I finally finished building this tonight. Final thoughts: This thing is unbelievable in person. Despite being the same length as Lego's official version, having it built to the proper specs makes it seem twice as large. The greebling is amazing, and people literally think it's a model when they first walk in the room. It is a true show piece. Onecase's photographs are excellent, but they just don't do it justice. The instructions are great work as usual, and beyond the changes that Bricksmarlin suggested, the only ones I made were a simple one to the snout to keep the bottom panels from drooping, and some minor greebling changes for personal taste. Highly recommended.- 127 replies

[INSTRUCTIONS] Executor class Star Dreadnought

It's quite a bit heavier than I thought it would be, but it could probably be done. The other issue then would be how you would move it; you would be putting a lot of stress on the frame picking it up by just a single strut.- 127 replies
