  1. Put in another BL order yesterday for some bits and pieces - it all adds up, that's nearly £100 in September just on BL! Don't tell the wife... In October I'm looking at Haunted House, and possibly also Town Hall or Parisien Restaurant..(Double points!)
  2. So now you're trying to sort the rules?
  3. Visited my local PAB wall, but nothing useful I could use there :-( Mainly 2x4 in primaries and pastels... Came away with the Creator Mountain Hut though, and got home to a Sydney Opera House (Architecture version) from Amazon. Started planning some small vignettes I want to work on. More parts needed!!
  4. That's a better choice than the steamroller, but pretty uncomfortable - I doubt you'll get much sleep!
  5. I'm primary carer for my wife, who suffers from various auto-immune deficient related problems which restricts her mobility significantly. Also having a full time job makes things difficult during the day when I have to be in the office. Coming home in the evenings can be very stressful, as there's often a lot to do at the end of a busy day. I find that spending an hour or so at the end of the day, sorting and building, can have a very calming effect on my nerves and blood pressure. So yes, definitely therapeutic!!
  6. Only had good service at Watford and MK (UK), the only two stores I've used. VIP queries, stock queries, free polybags all handled professionally. The only gripe is the poor choice on the PAB walls (i.e. not parts I'm particularly interested in - primary colour 2x4, 2x2 etc.)
  7. Just curious, what's the going price for a full box of CMF these days? Do you get discount for bulk?
  8. My missus only said to me last night: "When are you going to actually *build* something, rather than just sort?" I guess she has a point. Still early in my Lego Rennaisance, but I have a few Modulars up on the shelf that need disassembling and sorting to make room for more/different models (Trevi Fountain is on the go at the moment). Storage/sorting boxes (old Chinese/indian takeaway cartons are useful) are taking over the living room!
  9. Ok, my first attempt at trading so be gentle with me! I'm in the UK (London) and would prefer a local (UK) trade to avoid postage/customs issues etc. and to ease me in gently to this. I have available the following, no foil bags or tick sheets unless stated, otherwise complete with accessories and stand (as listed on Bricklink, eg http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=col02-3), and as new. HAVE: Simpsons (All with Tick Sheet) Scratchy (cat) Maggie Nelson Bart Krusty (x2) Milhouse Lego Movie Larry the Barista Series 11 Holiday Elf Series 10 Baseball Fielder Tomahawk Warrior Series 9 Battle Mech (x2) Chicken Suit Guy Cyclops Series 7 Bagpiper Hippie Jungle Boy Series 5 Evil Dwarf Fitness Instructor (x2) Ice Fisherman Small Clown Series 2 Circus Ringmaster Traffic Cop Weightlifter WANT: Simpsons Series Apu Mr Burns Series 11 Scientist Saxaphone Player Series 10 Warrior Woman Roman Commander Grandpa Series 9 Policeman Roman Emperor Series 8 Businessman Series 7 Computer Programmer Viking Woman Series 6 Roman Soldier Bandit Series 5 Detective Gangster Cave Woman Series 2 Explorer Series 1 Cowboy Forestman Caveman PM me and let's trade!
  10. Looks like it's been taken down. Even removed from my bid history.
  11. Agreed, I made a max bid on one of the items, just to see what would happen. Within minutes I was outbid, whereas the other items are all still much much lower than my max bid was. What's the betting I'll have lost it by the one bid? (and for extras, that I'll get an email saying the winner pulled out and am I still interested?) It's a laugh, innit?
  12. Doh!! Why didn't I see that? Thanks very much indeed. Just goes to show, no matter how much you look... Another Bricklink order on the brew then...
  13. I wonder if anyone can help? I've been looking on bricklink for parts where I'm not even sure they exist! I'm trying to create a minifig with a minesweeper, here's the basic idea: I'm using a 2819 Steering Wheel for the main scanner part. The problem I'm having is finding some way (within scale) to get a) a decent 'handle' and b) the angle between the handle and the wheel so that the handle is angled to the ground but attached to the wheel. I've seen some 'UV' joints that might do the job, except they seem very over scale for the minifig. If I can get a more natural look to the angle of the minifig arm, and still have it holding the handle, so much the better! All ideas appreciated!
  14. Nice review. I saw several of these in a line at the recent exhibition at Sandown Park (UK). Looked every inch the 'modern estate', so much so that I tried to buy a set the next day, but my local store didn't have them in stock. Ah well, there's always next month! Looking forward to reading your assessment of the alternative builds.
  15. Tweeted a short while ago: LEGO ‏@LEGO_Group 20m HUGE news! In 4 days time we´ll be revealing something very exciting. Let the guessing game commence! So, four days to wait for an announcement... Will all the 2015 models finally be (offically) revealed?
  16. In order of purchase: 1x Mini Modulars - I love these! 1x Palace Cinema 1x Grand Emporium 1x Pet Shop Next will be either Ghost House (not strictly a modular) or Town Hall - I've been advised that Ghost House will retire before Town Hall does, so that is an influence on my choice (and wallet!). Not got into MODing or MOCing as yet, still building (sorry!) a stock of parts for that.
  17. I see some more mini-modulars have been announced for October - I wonder if/when we'll see them here in the Uk? http://brickfanatics.co.uk/lego-bricktober-mini-modulars/ Time to head over to BrickLink I suspect!
  18. All good suggestions, thanks. I like the idea of an 'urgent' and a 'balance' wanted list - I may well use that one! And the idea of looking for local stores for pckup, I'm sure there must be some sellers here in London, UK that would cater for smaller orders on pickup?
  19. Thanks folks. The few orders I've placed so far have been very small - < £5 so I obviously need to buy more to make best use of economies of scale when it comes to postage! Still coming to terms with the BL system - I've been using LDraw to design, then into BrickStock, and then from tehre to Brickficiency to identify/make up the different BL orders. I've not yet worked out how to go direct from a single BL wants list to multiple seller orders, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually...
  20. Just getting back into Lego, after some 40+ years away! I'm currently taking it very slowly, and picking and choosing what I need for some smallish models to start (I don't want to be saddled with boxes and boxes of stuff I can't/won't use anytime soon). However, the postage on small BrickLink orders often comes to more than the parts themselves! So what are peoples' strategies for dealing with this situation? What's an 'average' order size on BL? What parts do you bulk out an order with, to make it worthwhile? I already have a decent starter stock, having purchased several of the modular buildings and other Creator sets to get me going.
  21. Ah, that would explain what happened to a recent BL order of mine. Only a few pieces, but the seller had just put them in an ordinary letter envelope. The 'letter' arrived in a RoyalMail plastic bag, with a nice apology from the RM about the state of the letter. Luckily, all the pieces I'd ordered were there, and intact!
  22. Finished off the ground floor of the Pet Shop last night. WIll make a start on completing it tonight!
  23. Looks like the Neighborhood book is available for pre-Order on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-LEGO-Neighborhood-Book-Build/dp/1593275714/
  24. I picked up my 10230 cheap(ish) on Ebay. The architecture line is something I've considered, but several of them seem to just consist of tan tiles, or solid blocks of colour with very litte detail. Though having aid that, the Trevi Fountain is quietly calling to me at the moment... A question: Is there any consistency of scale in the architecture line, or is each model in its own unique scale? I actually started with a couple of the Creator line models (Small Cottage and Mountain House), but the lack of completeness - open backs etc didn't really grab me. I see there's a Bike Shop and a Family House in that line too. Any thoughts on Price-per-Part value in those? Is it worth getting them for building up a collection for future MOCing?
  25. Modulars were what dragged me out of the Darl Ages earlier this year. I'm just finishing off Pet Shop, and have the Grand Emporium and Palace Cinema already done. Town Hall may well be next, depending upon my wallet. But what really caught my eye first of all were the 10230 mini-modulars of the first five buildings. Given that the Parisian Cafe is the 9th in the series, and the rumours/hopes are of a new building in the offing, is there any chance we could see another Mini-Modular set any time soon? I'd certainly be first in the queue if there was! The advantages I see in the miniscale buildings is the advanced techniques required to attain a level of detail in something so small, and the reduced display space needed for the completed models. Disadvantages are of course the lack of figures and interior details. I'd be interested in others' thoughts on this.
