  1. I think you guy's need to all get together and bring along all your bricks. Then you can all build a bridge and get over it.
  2. no. but i have stuffed a pillow case with lego to put in the washing machine
  3. Which part do find most valuable? and i don't means "costs the most" i mean the part you run out of all the time, the part you can never have enough of. at the moment i seem to always run out of 1x1 bricks in whatever colour I'm using at the time so i have to switch to using another colour or use a technic piece with the hole hidden. Also tiles, no matter how many i have i never seem to have enough to cover the space i want to in one colour
  4. I just started using bricklink and so far so good, lots of lovely parts arriving at my door. I just have a few questions. Under all the parts pictures there is a * and sometimes a *! whats the difference, I've looked around and can't fine any explanation. Next thing i was wondering about was when you look up sets and find one you like I.E. green grocer, you can break down the set and view all the parts needed and add them to your wanted list. But when i select all and add to my list none of the quantities of each part shows up. How do i transfer the quantities over at the same time? Last question, why is it so addictive?
  5. Wow that is huge. Great work. Have you tried using bing maps (birds eye view) for better pics of the real building? They use helicopter shots from all 4 sides and are usually better detail than google maps. BTW the "the glass on top off the little bit off steel on the end off the building" is a parapet wall.
  6. He gets a damaged (box) $150 set, goes to the store and buys a new same $150 set and gets a receipt then returns the damaged set and get a $150 refund and sells the new set for $150. I think that's what they are trying to say. Thinking he's making $300 but really he spent $150 and got it back to make another $150
  7. I'm pretty sure this kind of thing is happening in my area. Tough i can't prove anything. But i know of a guy selling new sets online at around 20% less than the stores.
  8. Wow that's going to be huge, and heavy. Do you live in an old house with high ceilings? Or do you have a stair well to work in? Stop teasing us with just one picture, I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see more closeups
  9. How many handcuffs did you snap making this? I snapped 2 pairs on my nightclub.
  10. No Question for me, Build with it. Because those silicone molds are not food safe.
  11. No plans are not really necessary it can be done from photos, but it will take a little longer so it will cost more hours. Also aerial pics help a lot. We used to rent helicopters to take those pics but now we use google earth printouts.
  12. I'm not much help on where to go. But I'm a modelmaker that sometimes works on commissioned pieces (non lego). My normal day job is also building models. The actual cost of the model will be way less than the cost of labour. Where i work the average model takes around 300 to 500 hours to complete at an average €25 per hour. The bigger the scale the longer it's going to take to build and the more materials it's going to take. If your fiend can get plans of the building printed to scale before the model is started she would be saving a lot of time in advance and would find it much easier to get a quote from someone willing to take on the job.
  13. but LEGO is not an English word
  14. That doesn't have LEGO printed on the studs. Must be fake
  15. I'd guess that since the start of Lego it would have to be the 2x4 brick, but today its probably the tyre. I was thinking of a similar question. What is the most produced colour? I'm guessing White. But what is the rarest colour and part?
  16. just wondering... is there glass in the window frames?
  17. The tubing looks like http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30091 with maybe a modified hair piece stuck on the front.
  18. Start smoking and you won't notice the smell. Problem solved
  19. I have never said or used the word legos, it's like saying sheeps And only Lego makes LEGO. like only Sony made the Walkman and only Jeep makes Jeeps I once almost got arrested by a traffic cop because i was driving a Jeep. He pulled me over and asked me what make of car i was driving, i told him it was a Jeep. He asked what kind of jeep? He then said something which still bugs me to this day... "My jeep is a Toyota, so what MAKE is your jeep" AAARRGH! I nearly got arrested for refusing to give information. It's these kind of people who will never get the difference between Lego and the cheap copies.
  20. AWE MAN!!! getting jealous again
  21. I worked in a plastic injection factory years ago (most boring job ever). we had to mix the white pellets with the coloured ones to get various shades. The coloured pellets where very strong so the average was around 50 white to one colour. The hoppers leading to the injection machines looked to be filled with mostly white with just a speckle of colour. But the problem was some of the colour pellets where slightly larger and heavier than the white ones and they used to rise in the hoppers and had to be remixed back in. If they where not remixed the part being made would get lighter and lighter until it turned white. I'm sure now a days the machines have better mixers in the hoppers but whenever I see my bricks not matching i automatically think "mix the hopper" Btw the last parts i made in that factory where VHS tape bodies, so that'll give you a rough idea how long ago it was
  22. And i think you are underestimating how much he charges for one of our models Imagine you are and architect and you have a budget of 20 million to build your latest design. you would have no problem spending a half of a percent on the model needed for the planning authorities. Now if only i could convince the next architect that Lego is cheaper
  23. Kind of a long story but i'll try to keep it short. I've been working as an architectural model maker for 22 years and the very first week i started with the company i was given the task to build the exterior walls of of a large castle model which was to go on display in the real castle (still there today). There was lots of machinations and castellations on those walls and being new and not understanding "the ways" i asked "why can't i just do them in Lego?". Right away everyone in the workshop burst out laughing except for the boss, he got slightly pissed off and yelled "YOU CAN'T MAKE ARCHITECTURAL MODELS WITH LEGO!!".. So every now and then over the last 22 years some always says "why can't we just use Lego?" and some always replies "YOU CANT MAKE.....blah blah" Well yesterday i went into the computer room and loaded up your site and then opened some different pics in different windows. Then i called my boss in and said "Check out these models." he sat down and was all impressed and said "wow nice work, who made them?" so i said "LEGO FANS!....BOOM!" then i showed him the close ups of the same models. Long standing argument done and dusted. I WIN!
