3 X 60050 & 1 X 7937 or 2 & 2? Station opinions . . . .
Exa replied to Breakdown's topic in LEGO Train Tech
2 x 60050 + ~15 € parts from BL : -
Thanks. It's very fun to run trains on this layout (up to 3 at the same time). ICE is the german high speed train. It looks like this : I got red and yellow cargo train. I also got one HE and I will perhaps look for a second one to have a full unit. But I think I will stay on DB looking train.

The old station platforms were too short. WIP for the new station while the old one is still in use. The construction of the new platforms goes on. The new station on platform side. The unfinished other side of the station. The new station can host two four parts ICE. Other view with two ICE in the station. One ICE swinging out of the station on the points. A second life for the old station... An hasbeen rock band use the platform as a stage ! The new station can be opened like Modular.

unmodded / original trains.

4 should work fine with Lego vanilla trains but it's too short for large MOC steam engine or HE.

I wanted to try the points cut out. It's only a part of the reason. The double cross works the way explained here : http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97423entry1930761 So there is no way to have trains running straight in booth directions. Not very great... Double cross costs about 90 to 100 € so about 4 to 5 points box. If you know how double cross works, have money to spend, and did not have enough room to use two pairs of points, you can use it. It does a par of the job. But, I will never recommend this part for global purpose. I will use it back soon, I'm changing the layout for now. It will be used in a fine place.

I have placed my modular on the layout. It starts to look nice.

Final job :
-
I have removed the double cross. I replace it by two pair of couted points.

I just finished do it now. 15 min to cut the 4 pieces, very easy. But 4 hours to make them fit perfectly. Pictures are not the best but it's now over midnight and I'am tired.

Yeah, it looks really great. Very icx like : http://www.siemens.com/press/pool/de/pressebilder/2011/mobility/soimo201107/300dpi/soimo201107-04_300dpi.jpg http://www.1000steine.de/de/gemeinschaft/forum/?entry=1&id=313807

Thank you MusicaRibelle. Thank you so much. Very clear. :)

Still not. I got a 7996 (Train Rail Crossing) witch does the job. But I am always working on a better layout so, one day, I will do this cutout... I got less time for Lego those month.

The Beauty and the Beast: FRECCIAROSSA 7 studs vs/ 4 studs...

Really great job. I just love it ! -
You dont like it, you dont need the parts so why buy it ? Your single buy wont change the world sales... I just love it. I don't care about the single part nose. It make this train very ICX like. It looks much more modern than the 70's HE design.

3677 is a nice one with the great red unit. EN is a *best train* ever but overpriced. I got 1 HE but I will never buy a second one. 7939 starts at 139 € without shipping form BL.

Thank you for feedback Legoman666.

I agree with you michaelgale. I'am also not a flex track fan and 1/4 custom do the same job on BB. Adding the flex just for completeness is perfect. A red flex track will not break the red color scheme for vanilla tracks. BTW, using color schèmes is really a great idea. Thank you !

I see there is also a track cross 90. Looks great. http://www.shapeways.com/product/HQRM2KSYX/lego-train-track-cross-90-degree

It's really a great job. Thank you. I think you forget the flex track witch is a regular Lego track.

Download BlueBrick. You will be able to create your layout on your computer. :) With 6 x 3 you can do have 8 3/4 tracks long and 1 1/2 tracks width.

Any City train is good to start. Super set are even better : more tracks, two points and a station. If you want a decent layout, you will have to buy a lot of tracks and a few points. Finally, you will discover that you will add so much than the first set can be any train... So, buy the train you like, not the one people tells you to buy. Yours trains, your fun. The coupling work for all Lego train. Each IR receptor an handle 2 functions. One is of course train engine and you can use the second one for lights. Technic LED work fine withe Lego train. Sometimes, it's very easy to add them, and other times not. I got two 60051, none of them have ever derail for this *issue*. And if it happens, it's just about removing two 3x1 tiles. Very hard fix ! Now about platform, any train with a long nose will hurt a platform placed outside near a curve due to cantilevered.

I won't tell about witch train are good or not to buy but about the place you need if you want de decent track layout. Take care, Lego trains need *some* space. Try to find a "super set" witch is a train, a station, 2 points and some additional tracks. You will find train sets on Brickset : All City Trains : http://brickset.com/sets/theme-City/subtheme-Trains Pervious gen (World City) : http://brickset.com/sets/subtheme-Trains/theme-World-City Older ones (Trains) : http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Trains
