2025 Technic Sets Discussion
Jockos replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I can't figure out why they used a 1x5 M beam at the rotor intead of a 1x1 M one like in 42057... -

The piece count and the price of the Peugeot are more "reasonable" (1775 pcs for 200€) than 42214's which is in the same league as the RC Porsche and Audi, so that suspects it will be an RC car. -

I guess it's a Porsche-hub style car -

I think we can all agree that 3 Volvo sets are much better than another 3 cars. -

We can only be happy that it's not another car -

It looks like Volvo became one of the all-time favourite brands in Technic. Since 2014 every 2 years we got 1 set, now every year we get 2 sets (?) -

Oh how I wished 42215 was a JCB Backhoe... maybe next year -

I have a feeling that at least until 2027 C+ will be alive. Just to introduce a new electronics system for the 50th anniversary or something. -

Well, we did have a very similar one (if it counts); 42100. It wasn't that technically complex, but was very playable, like 8043. -

I have to disagree a bit :) Last year TLG did the Mercedes W14 F1 car in 2 sizes in Technic, and this year at least two F1 cars (Ferrari and Red Bull) will come in Technic and Speed Champions. Though you're right that close scales (1:16 and 1:10) will not be made simultaneously. -

I think the Nissan Skyline will be in the scale of the Ford GT (1:12), because 1:10 cars tend to be in the 1700+ pieces range. -
On one hand, you're absolutely right. On the other hand, if every Technic set would be sized according to their functionality (i.e. what is the smallest size of a vehicle that has all the necessary functions) nearly every set would be 500 pcs at most and any huge set would be a rarity (e.g. 1 in every 3-4 years). For me, it would kill a bit of excitement about the theme. I agree that most of the huge sets (cars) don't have much novelty in them, but I must admit I enjoy building a 1:8 scale replica of a hypercar better than a 1:16 scaled one.

Happy New Year Everyone! I've recently finished building the trailer of 42175's FMX truck, and what came to my mind is that maybe this summer's Volvo front loader will fit on the trailer just like the excavator. Its size might be just perfect for the piece count. -

I'm afraid we won't see any Technic winners either in Ideas or BDP for a while, because Technic has less appeal to FOLs than any System-based thing. Unless TLG creates a space for 1 Technic set now and then in BDP, only System sets will be dominant. -

Well, most of the time, adults buy toys for their kids, so... they're easier to milk. -
What's happening with Technic?
Jockos replied to Amt0571's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For its price I wouldn't expect wonders (i.e. PUp), maybe pneumatics. I really miss the times when we had HoG functions (e.g. by turning a knob) instead of directly operating them. -
Generic Contest Discussion

I can't remember, if it has been done, but a contest where the entries have exactly 1000 pcs would turn out quite a diversive one, I think. -
What's happening with Technic?
Jockos replied to Amt0571's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, yes, it's kind of frustrating (may I say) that of the 40+ sets (with known next year's) only 3 are motorized.. I really hope there's some system-overhauling in the background because this way the motorization options are nearly non-existent. -
There is nothing JCB has to do with submarines. I think they are referring to the bright light orange colour used on DIGatron (JCB license) as opposed to any other yellow coloured set (which doesn't have a license). So JCB ordered TLG to have DIGatron in that specific bright light orange, and TLG decided (?) not to make any other unlicensed set with this colour. I hope I figured it out correctly.. :D Also, now I hope summer brings us a proper JCB Backhoe set in BLO.

42197 Backhoe Loader
Jockos replied to Auroralampinen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If it turns out to be true (excavator instead of backhoe) that gives a massive amount of hope for me for a summer JCB Backhoe flagship. And, of course, an excavator is more plausible with 104 pieces than a backhoe. Thank you for the info!
