Don't know why they disappeared, but put em back in the first post. Also, as a bonus, here's the reasons Emerald Night won't be getting run again anytime soon*: *A3 will be having some minor body work changes and a redesigned front end when I get a chance, and Hogwart's Castle has since received a proper set of rods.

Don't worry man, all's well that ends well. :)

That's the logical solution, but I like to shunt my locos, which requires them to be self powered. I am planning to make a powered coach for exhibitions, and I'll simply replace the powered bogie under the tender with a unpowered one.
-
Unless I go with a none Lego solution, the tenders are both a bit too short to fit battery boxes.
-
Cheers, I'm trying to ween myself off 9v because the train group I'm part of (LNUR) don't use it on their main display. These locos all predate my joining them however, and I'm not about to try and squeeze a battery box into them. Named after the 00 gauge Hornby 0-4-0 locos that are waaaaay to fast, lol. She performs exactly like the Hornby models.

So, two of the locos have been awaiting proper rods their entire existence and the other I had grown tired of my previous attempt. I also fancied trying a darker grey for the rods. After a lot of dallying, I finally ordered the new rods back end of December. Then the USPS happened, and they *finally* arrived today. And I couldn't be happier, especially with the Q Class's new rods. Q Class Hogwarts Castle Pocket Rocket Many thanks to zephyr1934, your rods continue to rock!

MOC: Flying Scotsman (with free instructions)

And let's be honest, it's not like it's likely to get to a stage where Lego would check (which is a real shame in this case). -

Why does this even matter? If they guy says he knew nothing about the first guy's build, he knew nothing about it. Get over it guys. -
That's a fair point, could be interesting to see a solution to that, although I think it might be more work than is entirely necessary, lol.
-
A simpler solution would have been to use the flangeless driving wheels then the loco would effectively be 2 bogies as far as track holding wheels, and would have no problem going round corners.
-
The guy has clearly been banned, so it's rather unlikely he's gonna be able to respond to this... ->Click Me!<- Here's a google image search of Lego Rockets. It's a small enough loco that you should be able to easily reverse engineer it from the photos.

This vid gives a rough comparison from about the 1 minute mark: Lego is closest to 0 scale, LG is using G scale.
-
Well that's a hard pass, lol

Mega deserved a lot of credit these days, they're no longer the obvious cheap Lego knockoff they once were. I have long feared the day they decided to go into trains, because their sets, generally being aimed at an older audience, and with no issues at all about creating the odd very specific element tend to be extremely detailed (some of those CoD military sets are utterly brilliant). As expected, they work to a completely different scale, and as expected, the relatively basic design they have gone for still utterly blows anything Lego have done out of the water. I'll have to rely on the fact it's probably not available in the UK for now, lol.

@zephyr1934's custom rods. I'd highly recommend his stuff. He has a store on Bricklink, and if he doesn't do exactly what you want on there, you can message him and he'll happily do what you want (I've got an order on the go right now that you can bet will be getting shown off here when they're done).

Honestly, steam locos are too complex to be a reasonable option for a widely released Lego set. Most lego steam locos are utterly rubbish, and the *VERY* *BEST* *ONE* *EVAR* is also pretty rubbish (although the recent Hogwarts Express loco is good enough to provide a good bed for upgrade). Ask anyone who does steam MoCs, even relatively simple ones, they are expensive and fiddly.

Lego's not mentioned anything yet.

Southern green with a 'W' infront of it's number is the only way to model a Terrier, lol.
-
Yeah, it took me a few seconds to figure out what you'd done. I may redo the tender at some point, but right now I don't want to do another sizable order for parts. Also I'm way more interested in replicating the details you've included under the tender's frames if I'm honest. On a completely unrelated note, someday I'm gonna steal that Terrier of yours! :P
-
Yeah, the front wants some attention, the more I look at it, the more out of place it looks. I'm also toying with finding something to replace the 4x4 dish, because it's just not big enough for the A3s (and 6x6 is too big). How'd you hide the clips on your tender? It never ocoured to me to use the 1x1 curved corner peices.
-
I try and steer clear of parts I know will have a premium charged on them, and those definitely will be more expensive than none marked ones.
-
I think the flowers for knobs is the one innovation I have given to the Lego train MOC scene, lol. I very much intend to get prints at some point, there's a few tweaks I want to do first, plus I'm praying Lego do a black version of the curved tile I'm using for nameplates that doesn't have 'Hogwarts Castle' written on it. LNER stands for London and North Eastern Railway. It was one of the big four railway companies that ran nearly all of British Railways for 25 years between the post WW1 grouping in the early 20s and the post WW2 nationalization of the network in the late 40s. (The other 3 railways were the LMS (London Midland and Scottish Railway), GWR (Great Western Railway) and the Southern Railway.)

It's been a long saga, but it's finally done. When I started, I had no specific class, let alone a specific loco in mind, just a generic British pacific loco to go with my Pullmans. In it's current guise, she's very much based on LNER no.2751 'Humorist', which was picked for two very specific reasons, she was the only A3 to have a double chimney in LNER days, and she had one of the (I feel) more interesting GNR tenders. So, here we go: Videos: At speed: Wheelspin!:

Here's how I'd do it, obviously you'd need to fit it into the larger build, and other solutions may exist.
-
Both are really great sets, which provide some good generic pieces, but not much use for train fans.
