  1. Its good to see that LEGO is trying to use new parts in as many sets as possible (e.g. the use of the octagon plate as the base of the sattelite launcher). Lets hope that follows through and they use the new windscreen in more sets (or better yet, put it on PAB in both tr-lt-blue and tr-smoke)
  2. No plans for an interior (being that its going on the next train layout, you wont be able to see inside anyway so an interior is pointless). Landscaping with plants and lawn and stuff IS on the cards though.
  3. Not going to tile the floors. After how much work it was to get the roof on, I dont want to make any further changes to it at all. No shots of the real thing, the best you can get is this Google Street View view: Melville Motors As for the Barina, the design I came up with doesn't lend itself to being built smaller. (plus I dont want to have to disassemble half the MOC to get it out and back in again)
  4. I dont own a car so I take the bus everywhere and have been to all points of the compass on the hunt for LEGO (In fact, I have been to every single LEGO retailer I know of in this city that you can reach via public transport at least once)

    A news stand

Here is a news stand I built after realizing I had so many newspapers (Prophet, Quibbler, Bugle and that one from the Town Plan). Its loosely based on news stands I have seen in Melbourne Australia and on news stands I have seen in general (on TV etc) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/newsstand/news1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/newsstand/news2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/newsstand/news3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/newsstand/news4.jpg On the front counter are the 4 news papers, the Daily Prophet, the Quibbler, the Daily Bugle and the Brick (from Town Plan). Behind the worker minifig are various postcards. On one side (hard to see though because of the lighting and the lack of ability to get a good shot from the right angle) is a map of the local area (HP marauders map tile) and a music guide/magazine ("brick fever" tile from Minifigures series 2). On the other side is a Batman comic (tile with Batman logo sticker) and a Star Justice comic (Star Justice logo sticker tile) The doors of the news stand can close (note the locks to ensure no-one steals anything) I would like to make it so that the awning can retract or fold somehow but I havent figured out a way to do it.
  6. Here are some LEGO models I made of various Transperth bus stops I have seen on my travels on the Transperth network. Red CAT stop, Yellow CAT stop, Blue CAT stop, Red & Yellow CAT stop: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop1.jpg Orange post stops, Old style timetable boards, new style timetable boards: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop2.jpg Cant remember where I saw this style of stop: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop4.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop5.jpg This one resembles stops seen on Canning Highway in Applecross: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop6.jpg This one resembles a stop seen near Southlands shopping center (and also the same style is seen elsewhere on the network): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop7.jpg Yellow, Red and Blue CAT stops with seating: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop8.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop9.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop10.jpg A normal bench seat (as seen at many stops): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop11.jpg Cant remember where I saw this style of stop either: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop12.jpg This one resembles stops seen on South Street: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop13.jpg A stop that resembles stops seen on St Georges Terrace outside Central Park: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop14.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/stops/stop15.jpg (the locations will only be relavent to people who know their way around Perth)
  7. Here are pictures of the latest versions of my LEGO Mercedes Benz OC500LE in Transperth Colors: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le4.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le5.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le6.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le7.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/oc500lenew/oc500le8.jpg One of the buses has a Thermoking air conditioner and the other has a Coachair air conditioner but other than that, they are identical. The interior has not changed from previous versions of this MOC.
  8. Here is a MOC of a Holden car dealership (Holden is the Australian arm of General Motors) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden4.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden5.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden6.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/holden/holden7.jpg Its based on Melville Motors Holden and (when completed) will have Holden stickers on it and a big Holden sign out the front with more stickers. In the front of the shop you can see a red Holden Barina and a yellow Holden SS Commodore Ute along with 2 dealers and a customer. More cars will be built to be parked around the front of the dealership. You can also see the roller doors leading to the repair shop (and if you look you can just see the mechanics, tools and state-of-the-art Holden diagnostic and repair equipment) On the top level is the office of the dealer principal (the boss of the dealership), you can see him sitting at his desk. Next to him is a filing cabinet for important papers and a cupboard to keep all the keys to the cars as well as a photocopier (the photocopier was the inspiration for this MOC). If you look closely you can also see a table and chairs for customers to sit and wait and talk to dealers etc. There is also a coffee machine behind the table but its hard to get a shot of it (and I dont want to disassemble the MOC to get the shot) And there is an air conditioning unit on the roof along with some skylights. This is the third version of this MOC as it fell apart twice (once when I accidentally stepped on it when I was cleaning up my house and once today when I bumped into someone else whilst carrying it around and had to scramble madly to pick up all the parts)
  9. Here is a MOC I made of my apartment building (which has 8 apartments in it) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment4.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment5.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment6.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jonwil/apartment/apartment7.jpg Some interior walls but no interior decoration (furniture etc) in any of the apartments. Its not really black and doesn't really have a grey roof and the real one has a sloped roof. (limitations of available parts to build this :) Its probably not 100% to scale either :) I live in the ground floor apartment at the front of the building. (visible in shot 4 at the front next to the open staircase). The brown thing on the side is the meter box for electric power
  10. Looks good, its got the new 6-wide windscreen in trans-smoke.
  11. As someone who has the original ISS model (and in fact the entire NASA line) that item looks COOL and (if it is in fact a set) is a must have.
  12. Haven't seen it posted but the current MYER catalog has some discounts: Hogwarts Castle 139 Burrow 70 Hogwarts Express 95 Creator Rotor Rescue 16 Creator Sonic Boom 70 Technic Motorbike 64 Technic Container Truck 109 City Police Station 109 They also have (both in the catalog and in the perth CBD store when I was in there earlier) the Lamborghini police car back in stock with a price tag of 69 (best price you are going to find it at so buy it now if you want one)
  13. That space shuttle looks great. Now I have even more things to suck up my limited funds. Maybe I can get lucky and buy the interesting parts (like those hinge pieces and the white tail) from BrickLink :P
  14. Love the fisherman, tennis player, baseball player, snowboarder (want multiples of that one), space villian (may also want multiples for the helmet) and rapper May get the pilot, hula dancer, sumo wrestler and alien Not interested in the samuri warrior, elf, race car driver, mummy, gorilla or tribal chief
  15. Nice van there.
  16. I would rather see a bank as the next modular.
  17. DJs website says the delivery charge would be $13. They list 3-5 business days to the east cost and 5-8 business days to SA/WA/TAS/NT
  18. I LOVE this idea and think its GREAT. Remember though that any ideas submitted should be things that would be acceptable to TLG. So for example, submitting an idea to make a Western Saloon set wont be a good idea (since TLG probably wont make sets where alcohol is such a large part of the set). Or submitting a idea for say an M1A1 Abrams main battle tank wont work because TLG wouldn't produce a tank as part of a set (in fact there is a story going back to the early days of castle somewhere where the castle people were saying "the bosses wont let us produce slope bricks in grey because we keep building tanks and they dont like that") Some ideas that might be worth considering which I have seen suggested by other people as well: Modular House Bank, could look somewhat like the new Gringots bank or the many historic downtown banks/financial buildings in various cities with the big columns. Build it in Tan or Grey with lots of the new grooved column pieces and other decorative pieces (like the lion head design piece) Sydney Opera House (probably the most famous building in Australia and it would be a GREAT set to see in Eiffel Tower/London Bridge scale) Or thinking along the lines of London Bridge, why not do what is likely the most famous bridge in the southern hemisphere and make a set of the Sydney Harbor bridge. All the girder work could be made out of black technic bits with bricks being used for the road deck and towers. Just like the London Bridge set, it could include Micro-scale vehicles like a Ute (Australian variant of the Pickup Truck) Or another idea could be "town plan 2" done in the style of the recent Town Plan set. Could feature an old-school diner, corner store/shop (i.e. whatever pre-dates the rise of the shopping mall, the supermarket and the Wal-Mart Superstore) and one other building (not sure what would fit). Vehicles could be a delivery truck (delivering to the store) plus a station wagon. Something that would look good alongside the cinema, gas station and town hall from the previous Town Plan set.
  19. I just LOVE the big black SUV. It reminds me of something one might find in say a motorcade protecting someone important. (it looks like its got enough armor to stop anything short of a nuclear strike :)
  20. If they are looking for architecture, maybe they should do a model of whatever building is going where the WTC used to stand (that's if they finally decided what to put there)
  21. Does anyone have any info on the Brickmaster City book? All I can find is info that says "released in July" and nothing to indicate it was actually released...
  22. These are NICE. New dog is great (wish it was a color other than brown for once though) Crowbar is very good (although red is the wrong color, black or dk bley would have been better) New blue torso is great (wish it was in a cheaper set though so you could get multiples) Backpack is very good, as is the new jacket torso for the criminal. White baseball cap and white bicycle are perfect, as is the use of the new castle wall corner in white on the truck. Those torches, what part are they using? I think its the telescope part but I cant be sure. Looks to me like the doors on the jail cell is a new mould related to the current one but as a window rather than a door (i.e. does not open) which is a good thing.
  23. Saw that today at TRU, there wasnt anything that was any good.
  24. Has anyone seen any of the Brickmaster books around other than the Starwars one? (I saw the Starwars one earlier in Borders but that was all they had)
  25. Spare a thought for us Aussies. Given normal practice for .au retailers and given the large amount of current Police sets still around, I would be surprised if we see these new police sets this side of Easter.
