REVIEW: 8831 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 7
jonwil replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The space marine helmet is the same one as on the S1 Spaceman, S3 Space Villain, S6 Intergalactic Girl and Alien Conquest ADU figures and yes it can take a standard helmet visor. This is the first time that particular helmet has appeared in Dark Blue though. Anyone heard any rumors of any kind of David Jones sale coming up? Some of the Architecture sets are looking interesting (although I broken down and bought the Opera House at RRP today because its my birthday and I felt like spoiling myself :) -
REVIEW: 8831 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 7

Nice review, makes me even more excited to get some of these figs (especially that computer programmer) I think the torso in particular would look good for a university professor combined with the right head and hair. -
No, the Telstra building on Wellington Street in Perth.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
jonwil replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Assuming the club image is true and the computer programmer does have a dark bley laptop, I am SO there, being a computer programmer myself. Liking the space marine and the Alien Conquest gun in black (as opposed to the dark bley used in the AC sets). And I gotta get me those Bagpipes (the Bagpipes are one of the coolest instruments ever made :) At this point it looks like I will be going for: 2 x tennis players 0 x brides 1 x red riding hood (for the small legs in red if nothing else) 1 x space marine (for the gun, armor and helmet) 0 x viking 1 x sea king (for the hair and for the fancy triple beard) 1 x daredevil (for the hair and torso and helmet) 0 x bunny suit guy 1 x glam rocker 0 x jungle boy 0 x Aztec 0 x Knight at least 2 x Bagpiper 1 x Hippie 2 x Swimmer at least 4 x Computer Programmer I recon it would be cool to use the computer programmer to build a cubicle farm MOC, just need to find a suitable torso that represents what a computer programmer actually wears (finding a torso with a business shirt, pockets, necktie and no logos or other items to get in the way is hard) -
I plan to build the Telstra building (it is a building owned by a telephone company in Australia) in Architecture scale. This link should link to a picture of the building. https://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-31.950659,115.853923&z=20&t=k&nmd=20120123 I plan to make the main tower 8 x 8 in size. Where I am stuck is the curved roof feature, I need ideas for what part would work for it. I have considered http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30099 except that it looks too big. Anyone got any suggestions as to what part would work?

Saw something on TV the other day about the closing down of the last independent hardware store in Port Melbourne, Faram Brothers. Reminded me a lot of your hardware store and the look of it. Its a pitty these old stores (not just hardware stores but many others too) have all but vanished to be replaced by faceless giant chains that wouldn't know genuine customer service if it hit them in the face (I speak from the personal experience of just how hard it can be to get help in pretty much any Bunnings store I have visited)

Damn, even at 68 bucks, the TIE fighter is STILL a rip-off IMO :) Why must all the good sources of black/grey parts be over-priced licensed sets? :( -
I wish for a sheep in LEGO :)

More items for the wishlist http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=58176 in trans-normal-green and trans-clear (that part would be great for landing lights at airports and stuff if it came in a nice color) Oh and make the trans-yellow easier to get. Minifig airtanks in green (unlikely to happen though given that the airtanks seem to be on the way out in space type themes and figs) 2 x 2 round ribbed bricks in more colors (black for one but also dark bluish grey and medium dark flesh to go with the new "brick" bricks) New "brick" bricks in more colors and more varieties (e.g. 1 x 1 corner, 1 x 3 and longer) to allow greater building flexibility. Oh and make them more widely available/easy to get (I suspect that "brick" bricks in all 3 known colors will be a hot item in this years LUGBULK process)

Nice review. As for the fig, I suspect that the parts chosen were the closest match out of the parts the designers were allowed to use. This is an extremely small volume set so they aren't exactly going to make a new head design that will only be used in this set.

So tempted to enter this contest with something from my city, just need to figure out which building to attempt and how I can build it. If it wasn't for the fact that it was still under construction, I would build the new Perth Arena (multipurpose indoor stadium for concerts, big shows, basketball, tennis etc). But since its under construction and currently looks nothing like the finished building, I will have to build something else. Need to find some building that looks cool, can be built in LEGO without the need to order 100s of transparent bits (or other rare parts) from Bricklink at great cost and is well known here in Perth. Good excuse to use my new camera to take some shots of possible subjects :)

The new Dino theme got no less than 5 new dinosaurs, many of which are composed of multiple molds. I cant tell from Bricklink exactly how many molds were introduced for the Dino theme but I am sure its just as many if not more than would be needed for new animals in a Zoo or Safari theme.

Those deals on the larger Friends sets at ELC seem good but that assumes that your local ELC store actually carries LEGO (and carries the Friends sets) -
You guys are lucky, I wish I had more of the "cool"/"rare" animals like the dolphin, manta ray, clam, crab, starfish, camel, cow, goat, hedgehog, ostrich, rabbit etc I am fortunate enough to own both the dark grey AND light grey elephants though along with the ant, the monkey and several extremely rare colors of scorpion. (the trans-neon-green in particular is quite hard to get from what I can see) And yes I want to see more animals like a sheep and a lion and a tiger and a giraffe and a squid and some more options for bugs (and I want the animals that already exist like the cow and goat and rabbit to be used in sets that are less expensive/easier to get) I have too many snakes and spiders and rats and wish they didn't appear in so many sets (or that if they do, they appear in more interesting colors)

Can't remember the exact price but I saw a bundle in the local post office yesterday that had the Brickmaster City book and the City Sticker book combined. -
It may well be that the Black Widow fig was finalized and locked in place before the final look of the movie character was decided.

Nice police station. Regarding the pickup trucks, the police around here have vehicles that are basically dual-cab pickup trucks with a canvas covered cage on the back instead of a truck bed which are used for prisoner transports (I built one in white a while back and then built a different version of the same thing only in dark blue as a transit police version)

Maybe you could try Heroica, that seems like something that has more play value than some of the other games.

Called every k-mart I can get to and they couldn't find it (whether that's because they were out of stock or whether its because they were in a clearance bin or something I dont know) Not sure if its worth the effort (and cost) involved in actually going to some stores and looking for it (given that it doesn't really have that many parts I actually need for specific MOC projects I am working on right now) -
What webcam/camera is good for set photographs
jonwil replied to Galaxyconquest01's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You want a camera with a good macro mode. A webcam or cellphone camera won't do it, you need a proper digital camera. -

Assuming that price on the power boat is correct (And assuming that K-Mart actually HAS stock) that is CHEAP, given that US RRP seems to be $40. I keep saying "I wont buy any more LEGO in the month of March" but a deal this cheap is worth making an exception for :) -
I would say Golden Gate is the best out of that lot as bridges would be a nice direction for the Architecture series (imagine a Sydney Harbor Bridge in the future to sit alongside the Opera House)
