LEGO Nexo Knights 2017 Discussion

Yup. Sure looks like it! At least 3 sets for the knights and perhaps 2 sets for the stone monsters. It's the dragon vehicle from the still NotMegalodon posted earlier. I can't tell though if it is some kind of "mech-dragon" or if is a vehicle with dragon type elements. I assume since it is dragon themed that it is an air vehicle, but it looks like a car/tank kind of a thing....? It's shown in a still with Axl's Tower Carrier, Clay's Rumble Blade and a couple of other vehicles that I can't quite make out. -

The set names for the Ninjago Movie sound...plausible. Agree with the lack of villain names being a bit of a red flag (unless they are "Shadow Samurai" as mentioned previously. Also, the presence of Kai in 2 consecutive sets 70614 & 70615, is a bit of an eyebrow raiser since I don't think that's been done before (i.e. same main character in 2 consecutive sets). In any case, we should have set names within the next week or so if history is any indication. Either "insiders" will drop them or they will show up in a database somewhere. -

That's great news! I also bought my son Vermillion Attack for Christmas! Unfortunately, the set won't be opened until tomorrow! My comments were based on my observations of the box and the video review on YouTube. If you want to see the twins faces, there are now a couple of reviews on YouTube that show them off in glorious HD! -

Picked up Dawn of Iron Doom for my son for Christmas. Having had a look at the sets in store and seen the online reviews, I think Dawn of Iron Doom is overall the best set of the wave. It is, basically, a $100-ish price point "play set type" set scaled down into a $60-$75 (depending on where you live) price point set, which makes it a tremendous value. The set has a good selection of mini-figs with the Time Twins and the Vermillion figure as standouts. It contains 4 separate builds (Lloyd's jetski/hover bike thing, the prison, the tower and the Iron Doom itself), 2 of which (prison, tower) are modular and can be combined into different configurations. Each build, even the smallest (Lloyd's vehicle) contains one or more action features (swing out blades on Lloyd's vehicle, prison door, capsule bomb drop and board trap on tower and multiple features on Iron Doom Mech). The builds all look great and the action features all work well. This set is pretty much everything that you could want and then some in a set of it's price. Good piece count, nice selection of mini-figs, multiple strong builds, excellent playability and a type of set that normally would cost more than it does = instant buy and best set of the wave IMHO. Sadly though, for all of the awesomeness of this set, the rest of the wave looks pretty lacklustre to me with the exception of Vermillion Attack (which can, apparently, be combined with the prison/tower from Dawn of Iron Doom - can anyone confirm this?) and Dragon Forge. Overall, the rest of the sets (the larger ones in particular) are sadly lacking in action features or have features that obviously took up most of the set budget but have limited or uninteresting use/results (The steering feature of the Samurai X vehicle is a prime example. There was so much more that they could have done with the set budget. The Vermillion Intruder should be able to do a lot more than what it does - the catapult feature does not work very well and is the only action feature of that set). Hands of Time wave is to me overall a bit of a disappointment after 2 strong waves. Looking forward to seeing what the Movie wave brings! -

Whoops. Sorry. For some reason, I didn't notice your post at the top of the page. Ninja'd There are 2 videos. In the first a kid calls his local Lego store and they tell him that the 2017 Ninjago sets are coming out in January. The second is a video that references the first video while showing a January catalog. One of the sets in the catalog is the Vermillion Intruder and it shows as available Jan. 1st. -

Public Service Announcement: YouTube video shows that 2017 Ninjago sets will be released in the USA (and Canada - NA release dates always the same) on January 1st. Which means that TRU/Wal-Mart/Target are pretty much guaranteed to have them before Christmas. So happy we won't have to wait for these until March! -

Out of all the sets I think that 70358 - Lance vs. Lightning and 70359 Aaron's Stone Destroyer are standouts. They are small, affordable, playset-type sets with multiple elements and good play features built into them - especially the Aaron set. They are probably going to be around $25 USD/$30 CDN in N.A. so just slightly above the "$20 set" price range, but with an additional 30-40 pieces or so. As a parent, I really appreciate it when Lego makes sets like these as they are awesome for gift giving and have really excellent value for money. On another note, a YouTube video shows that both 2017 Nexo Knights and Ninjago Sets will be available in the US (and Canada by association as NA release dates are always the same) on January 1st. Which means that TRU/Target/Walmart are almost guaranteed to have them before Christmas. -

Nice to see some official pics! The Vermillion look to be animated piles of snakes inside suits of armor. They look great and I like the look of their weapons. Vermillion Attack looks like a nice set in its price range. 3 minifigs in a set this size...unheard of? Desert Lightning (Wait, isn't this season supposed to take place in a swamp? ) is a rehash of several earlier wave sets. The Vermillion bike is nice though. Destiny's Shadow has a cupholder in the cockpit. Nice. Looks like the "wings" can retract under the hull of the boat. Vermillion Invader looks good. Hopefully, it isn't all rickety like the tank bike in Overborg Attack. In addition to the catapults, it looks like the tank has some kind of stud-shooting function (given the ammo included in the pic), but I can't tell where they are mounted. Samurai VXL looks like a cross between the Ninja Tumbler and the vehicle from the Mechdragon set. I think it has a splitting function with the cockpit and guns detach to form a flyer? Dawn of Iron Doom and Dragon Forge are both very impressive looking. I agree with Aanchir though in that it looks like we have another wave with sets that are seriously lacking in action features. It's very hard to tell what many of models can "do". Hopefully, set descriptions will shed some light on that. Anyone know the release dates? -

Last year, I believe we got pics around this time for a few lines (Nexo Knights among them). Ninjago box/set pics did not come until I believe mid-November. The catalog shows a release date of January 1st, but I'm not sure if that is just for Europe (it's a European catalog) or if it's a worldwide release date. Last year they staggered the dates with Europe getting Ninjago January 1st and the N.A. release being March 1st. I have my fingers crossed for Jan 1 in N.A.! Unless someone else on the boards has some knowledge of the release date schedule, we will probably have to wait another month or so to get official dates from TLG. -

The Vermillion helmet! Looks cool. It looks like it doesn't extend down too far on the head and that the bottom edge might terminate just below the mini-fig's mouth. It's a different and interesting design from the other samurai type helmets. It's also wedge-shaped which looks to be a theme that carries in the various vehicles that the Vermillion have in this wave. Thanks for sharing this Sci. I'm curious to see if we get any Ninjago set/TV show/movie information at NYCC this week. I expect that TLBM will be featured, but although Lego has focused on single themes the last couple of years (Nexo Knights in 2015 and Bionicle in 2014) they have shown multiple lines of sets in the past. -

I believe that this wave of Ninjago is the same size as the 2016 winter wave - 7 sets. Nexo Knights is definitely smaller than last year's winter wave. Agreed. And I do wonder, with TLBM sets coming out in...what...January....? I can't recall the release date. How does that effect the release of NK and Ninjago? TLBM, while a licensed property, is likely going to look like an Action/Adventure line in terms of types of sets and content. I will be interested to see how they stagger the release dates of those 3 lines if that is in fact what they end up doing. Will we see a Jan 1st/Feb 1st/March 1st type of staggered release or a simultaneous release of NK/Ninjago before or after the TLBM sets? It's an interesting problem for Lego, as I believe that these 3 lines could potentially cannibalize sales from each other when TLBM is thrown into the retail shelf mix, at least with kids/parents and their available budgets. I did not see a release date for Nexo Knights on the catalog photos, but Ninjago is clearly shown as Jan 1st. So, maybe Nexo Knights gets delayed to March 1st? Or, like last year, they put the sets out in December? -

The enemy vehicles do look like they are alive. At least the larger ones do. I can't tell if Ruina's vehicle looks that way. Overall, I think the 2 best sets in the wave are the 2 smallest ones. The Knighton cannon/vehicle thing and Lance's double-lance cruiser. The bigger sets look a bit too...goofy for my taste. The action sets are also a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping that the mech suits would come with some sort of a shooter in addition to the weapon/shield. Either a spring fire missile or a stud Gatling gun. It would have been easy to mount one on the frame somewhere and wouldn't have thrown the parts count/budget out of whack. I think the small mech bodies will be good for MOCing though. Also, this wave seems a bit small set count wise. I wonder if we will get 2-3 retailer exclusives revealed later like we did last year? -

Fair comments. Small landscape set with a trap feature? Check. And all of those have been done multiple times since Ninjago's inception. I guess at this point, given the nature of the theme, we are looking for variations on those types of models that bring something new and interesting to the table. But I guess what I was trying to say is, despite the "typicality" of this wave, there appear to be some stand out sets in it. -

Having now seen the prelims, I'm not sure where all of the hate for this wave is coming from...? To me, it looks like a fairly "typical" Ninjago wave and while not all the sets are winners, there are some good looking models in there. Some observations: - The "mini-snake-mech" in Dragon Forge appears to not have a standard head, but instead has several small snake heads! - Blacksmith building in Dragon Forge is a stylistic departure from buildings in previous Ninjago waves, which I think is a good thing. - I didn't realize that the Vermillion vehicles were primarily black and red/red-orange and I think the color combination looks really good. - I can't tell whether Destiny's Shadow is a boat or a jet. It has wings, but they are covered with cloth peices and it is shown in the water, but it has a cockpit.... - 70623 looks like a great set with the Vermillion vehicle having a very unique look Looking forward to seeing final pics of the sets to see if any changes get made and to get a sense of the features of each set and the look of the Vermillion. Lastly, I see a January release date for this Wave. I wonder if this is only for the UK/Europe or if they will go with a January release for North America as well? Last year, it sucked having to wait until March to get access to the sets. Fingers crossed! -

I just wanted to take a moment to publicly thank The Artist for the drawings of the sets. I imagine that they take quite a bit of time to do and I appreciate the time and effort that you put into them and that you are doing this for our benefit. Thank you. And now that I have seen the other sets, I figured I'd put in my 2 bits: 70621: Vermillion Trap: A fairly typical Ninjago impulse set with a small landscape build. It almost looks like some kind of a garden/jungle wall. I originally thought that the "trap" was a catapult that launched the snake-pod, but it looks like there is some other kind of trigger mechanism in the set. Also of note is that 3 mini figs are included in the set, which I think is a first at this price point/piece count. 76023: Shadow of Destiny's Bounty Ah, now I get the name! They used parts from the DB to make this smaller ship! This looks like it could have been from the Skybound wave! It looks to me like more of a plane than a ship. I can see the cockpit is in the back where Lloyd is sitting. Hard to tell what the front looks like though. Also, when I first heard the description, I figured the canoe's were, like, lifeboats on the ship, but now I see that they form part of the hull around the cockpit. Interesting technique and use of the pieces. I like the set overall, although the SDB looks maybe a bit on the small side for this price point...? 76024: Vermillion Infiltrator Interesting choice of name as there isn't anything subtle about the design of that vehicle! I like the central tank tread and it looks like all of the Vermillion vehicles have a wedge-shape design to them, which is cool. Hard to tell what the play features are (much like 76023) other than the catapults on the back. But, I'm sure it has other features besides the catapult function. Also, the vehicle looks to be more squat/compact. I imagine a lot of pieces are used in the central guts of the vehicle and the tank tread. Another nice set. 76025: Samurai Turbomobile: Looks like a cross between the Ninja X-1 Charger from 2014 and Zane's Tumbler from this year. It's okay I guess, but I like the Tumbler better. Medusa build looks cool. But overall, the set content seems a bit light for a $40 set. Not too much there.... I really like both of the $30 sets though (SDB and Infiltrator) and I always like to see good sets at lower price points! I am very curious to see the Dragon Forge and I wonder if we will get a retailer exclusive in this wave in addition to what has already been revealed? -

Just saw a drawing of 70351. Main build, the jet, looks okay I guess. The body looks to be somewhat squat and not that long while the wingspan looks quite wide. Thus gives it a bit of a different look form a typical jet build. Large cockpit in the front. If you like the gattling-gun stud shooters, you will love this thing as it has three of them! The single-brick baddies look...interesting. I guess they are the "scurriers" of this wave. The only other build is the enemy monster figure, which looks good. Given the price of the set and likely piece count, the jet is probable pretty big. -

It definitely looks more like a mech and not a creature. It also looks to be quite large (in scale to the minifigs, swords it is holding and the building). I do like the set since you get a nice selection of minifigs (Lloyd, Jay, Wu, 3 baddies) and 3 builds (Lloyd's small vehicle, the building and the snake mech). Is it just me or does this seem like a re-hash of last years $20 set which featured....2 bikes... . Also, both builds look pretty small. Since these sets usually have around a 200 piece count, I'm kind of left asking "Where is the rest of the set?". Looks like maybe 160-170 pieces for everything there...the small track bike looks interesting and you do get 3 minifigs, but likely a pass. -

Thanks Sci for posting the descriptions! A few questions: - Can you explain the difference, appearance-wise between the Rogues and the Vermillion? - 70624 - is this similar to the Raid Zeppelin but without the Zeppelin and instead wings on the sides? Does it look to be around the same size as Raid Zeppelin? Are the wings very large and thin like an airplane or smaller and wider? - 70625 - is the Medusa a brick built model? - 70626 - So, the main build is some sort of large snake monster/mech type thing? Do the arms hold any weapons or do they just have claws? Where do the riders/controllers sit? Is this more of a creature or a vehicle that looks like a giant snake monster? -

Okay, those names make things a bit clearer as to what the sets are. And Dragon Forge is definitely the set that Klaus-Dieter described earlier. I guess the enemy faction are called "The Vermillion" as they have 2 sets with that name in it. Based on the new set descriptions it looks like 70625 is another Samurai X vehicle. I still have no idea what 70626 could be .... As for Dragon Forge, I have a theory: Klaus described the dragon as "unrealistic" and "futuristic". What if the "blacksmith shop" he described is an actual mechanical dragon manufacturing facility? That would explain the look of the dragon and the name of the set (what else would one craft in a dragon forge, but dragons themselves?). The dragons would look techno-organic with forged armor plates on them. Almost steampunk-like, which would fit the Ninjago aesthetic. Or the Dragon Forge could be a place to armor up/equip/weaponize organic dragons. Either way, Ninjago has done a lot of dragons over the years and this would be a bit of a change, at least for the Ninja side (we got an enemy robo-dragon in the Rebooted wave). Can't wait to see pics of this! -

Nice to see some more definitive sounding set names. Not sure where people are getting the "animal motif" ideas from though. Only Clay's vehicle seems to have an animalistic- sounding name...? I guess that Lance's vehicle is going to continue to carry on the "jousting" theme that they started with the mecha-horse. Based on amazingbricks' description of that model, I think it could be some sort of "jousting ship". I subscribe to the "hamster wheel theory" for Ruina's vehicle. As for "Combo NEXO Forces Series 1" I guess a blind bag range of some sort. With that name it couldn't possibly be an actual set, could it? Not sure where the "combo" part comes in. Maybe they are using "combo" as another word for Case Assortment. Or perhaps more than 1 "thing" comes in the blind bag so it becomes a combo...? Also, the largest set (Jestro's Monster Vehicle, I believe they called it) is missing from the list. -

I think that the set he described is in fact the "Dragon Wrought" leaked listing. Dragon Wrought looks to be the largest set in the wave and Klaus' description leads me to believe that this is a large set. It sounds interesting and I look forward to seeing a pic. Since it is a large set, I do hope that it includes a vehicle of some kind for the villians in addition to the other stuff mentioned. As for the name...? Maybe Klaus can confirm if "Dragon Blacksmith Shop" is the actual name since I highly doubt that it will be called Dragon Wrought. -

Whatever they are, I assume that they will continue to include additional Nexo Powers/Shields as this was the primary focus/theme of the ultimate sets. I guess it's just a matter of how they are going to deliver that in a way that is different enough from the Ultimate sets so that the new sets sell. My guess is that they are some sort of vehicle that comes with different powers/shields and weapons/accessories that go with the shield. Each shield would power up/equip the vehicle in a different way. The Ultimate's were all quite similar to one another in terms of having the base as a common build element. I think what you will see here are distinct set/builds for each knight. Pehaps a bike/buggy, a tank, an air vehicle and some kind of walker/mech. The builds would have to be very simple though if they want to keep the piece count and price in line with the Ultimate's. Hopefully we get some additional set details soon. The retailer catalog should be out in the wild by now, no? -

Amazingbricks mentioned in his post that the Lance and Clay's vehicles feature their colors. I took that to mean that they are the same base color scheme of medium/dark blue and trans red-orange but with the knight's colors added to identify the vehicle as theirs. So, silver and white for Lance. Also, amazingbricks' post does not mention a transforming feature for the bike set (that was a mentioned feature of the LoC set that his source said it resembled). Lance's Cruiser is a $19.99 set not a $35 set, so it will likely be about a 200 piece build. Perhaps amazingbricks can clarify if he is able to. Hopefully, he has asked his source for additional details!! -

Thanks for the info amazingbricks! Looks like a vehicle heavy wave so far. I suspect like last year that a couple of additional sets that weren't in the catalog will be revealed closer to the release date. I wonder is 70347 is more or less a bulked up version of the Knight Cycle polybag? 70348 sounds very interesting. Can't wait to get more details on it! Is it just me or does this wave seem a bit "space-y" especially where the knights vehicles are concerned. Lance and Clay both look to be getting starfighters. Also curious to see where Axl fits in in this wave. I was hoping he would be featured in a smaller set... -

It's tough to figure out sets based on names that are likely: - given to the sets whilst in the preliminary or prototype phase - in a foreign language and Google-translated I think that sets 70623, 70624, 70626 and 70627 are likely to end up with very different names that what is presently shown and at that point, we can probably better guess as to what the sets contain. But it's still fun to speculate, no? Now that I have read the lists over a few times, I think that 70625 is probably a Samurai X vehicle although I agree with Exetrius that I would like for that not to be so. I guess it depends on how many of the other sets are villian focused. I think that 70627 could be some kind of "Forge Dragon" with a metallic look and perhaps armored up pieces on it. Maybe something more mechanical in nature. I'm envisioning somewhat of a updated take on the Nindroid Mechdragon but perhaps bipedal with the cockpit in the dragon's chest. I think that last year we got an updated list of names within a couple of weeks of the initial leaks so we should have a better idea of things soon.
