LEGO LotR - general discussion
Bring More Popcorn replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Green Pea Toys used to sell a custom Witch King and also a Sauron, but it looks like they've shut down all their sites. Maybe Lego shut them down or something? I'd like to know if anyone knows if these customs are still available somewhere online. -

Hey everyone! I'm really excited to share my very first Lego stop motion animation with you. I spent about 2 weeks on the project as a whole, and I must say it was a lot harder than I expected. This first animation is only 12 fps, but I'm hoping to bump it up to 24 fps next time around. Any and all feedback would be great!

Painting rubber Lego parts?
Bring More Popcorn replied to Bring More Popcorn's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Looks awesome! Now I have a bit more confidence when it comes to painting my own pieces. I wonder if there's a sealer or something that could be sprayed on to harden the rubber, almost give it a plastic finish so it loses it's flexibility. I'll have to investigate this. -
Hey everyone, I'm new to the minifig customizing, and I was wondering if anyone has had success painting rubber pieces? For example, painting Arwen's hair from Lego's LOTR line. I'm thinking of using acrylic based paints and then sealing them with a semigloss. I'm just unsure if it will work. or crack, or whatever. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I guess I should have shared the details of my thoughts a bit more. If Lego were to design a more aggressive boar model and throw some metal plating on it's head, we could have 2 different paint variations. One could be a brown boar with steel painted head plating (armor-like), and the other version could be a blueish boar with tan painted head plating to resemble the beasts pulling Grond. I don't believe a more "natural" looking boar would be quite as menacing or have as much of a cool factor. Of course this all depends on what Weta's boar ends up looking like, if the boar is plain Jane, my idea is kaput! Just my thoughts, not trying to start a forum ruckus!
-
If the Lego designers are as clever as I think they are, they could come up with a boar figure that can be used to pull Grond for a LOTR Minas Tirith set, and also for Dain to ride in a TABA Hobbit set. Two boars for Minas Tirith, one for Dain. Maybe then a custom mould wouldn't be a waste.

Working diligently on Bring More Popcorn Production's first Lego stop motion animation!

The beacon is really cool and would be great to have, I think some of us just feel as though it's out of place with the front gates. Now if it came in a smaller set, maybe with the white tree of Gondor, it would be more fitting. Possibly have one of the guards of the tree and Pippin in that set, I think it would be a top seller. It would also offer up a minifig slot for this current gate design, swap Pippin for another soldier or something.

That's still a LOAD of money to obtain a massive collection like that, but I guess in countries outside the US it would be astronomical!Deathleech, I'm super jealous by the way... -
Great start to what could be an outstanding set! I think the addition of some more light stone grey bricks mixed in there with the white bricks would be good though. An almost pure white Minas Tirith just looks too clean to me. I also think that the beacon should be replaced by something behind the gates, maybe an armory, or the infamous rat catcher shop? I just think the beacon feels weird alongside the gate, considering it's meant to be the highest point of Minas Tirith. I would also love a strict army builder set that could be used to extend the surrounding wall. I'd imagine it to be an orc siege tower, a Minas Tirith wall extension, 3 orcs & 2 Gondorians. If it's possible to keep the brick count low enough, a $40-$50 price point I think would be perfect. Anyways, keep the good ideas coming! This has definitely got me thinking.

Lego gave me a quick response to the email I sent them earlier today. Sadly, it tells us nothing. I expected that much! It almost sounds like a stock response that they just alter a bit to give the feeling that it's been personalized. ...but oh well, at least they take the time to respond at all, and in almost no time at all. ------ Thanks for getting in touch with us. Isn’t it exciting that there are so many new LEGO® sets every year? It’s great to see you’re eagerly waiting and trying to find out about what we’ve planned for the future. It's always nice to hear from a fan that has come back to us. I hope that you enjoy building for a long time. I have been actively building now for almost 40 years. We are 3 generations strong at my house. Lord of The Rings has been a fan favorite as well. I read the Hobbit for the first time in 1972 and have been hooked ever since. I'm sorry that I can’t tell you anything about any new Lord of the Rings sets at the moment. Something like that might be coming soon, but our new toys are always kept secret until they’re announced in the catalogue or on LEGO.com. That’s because it takes a long time to design and make new toys, and we sometimes need every minute until they hit the shelves to make them perfect. Besides... we look forward to surprising you! -

I'm surprised that no one has brought up the Lego Hobbit video game in this discussion. I'm sure most of you know that it's being released in the spring with only Unexpected Journey & Desolation of Smaug. I'm assuming There and Back Again will be DLC in December 2014. Anyways, why would Lego release TABA sets before the film's release but not have the video game include it? I guess you could argue that the video game spoils the film far more than a couple sets, because of the recreation of scenes with the film's audio tracks. ...but still, a spoiler is a spoiler and it boggles my mind that Lego would release these sets before the film when they went as far as to keep TABA out of the initial video game release. Keep in mind I don't know the details of Traveler's Tale's relationship with WB/NewLine & TLG, so I'm unsure of who makes these decisions there. I'm just a bit skeptical that the rumor of this batch of new sets is TABA, and not LOTR. ....I'm really hoping it's LOTR. -
All it needs now is a Thrush, great MOC!

Just got new stop motion software installed, can't wait to try it out this weekend!

Hi everyone, I kinda forgot to post here before running around and posting on the other forum topics! Anyways, my name is Brian and I've always been a big fan of LEGO. I really got into it when at the very beginning of the Harry Potter line, but stopped after Goblet of Fire sets. What brought me back were Lego's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets, I'm a huge fan of all things Middle Earth and I just couldn't resist. Now I'm a part of a new YouTube channel called "Bring More Popcorn" productions. As of now we only have a few videos showcasing some of the Custom Lord of the Rings minifigures I've made, and one minifigure review. ...but soon, very soon there will be some stop motion shorts! It's going to be a ton of fun guys so please check it out! www.youtube.com/bringmorepopcorn Looking forward to discussing Lego life with everyone here, from what I've seen it's a great community!

Very nice build. Now we just need to stick Bard on top and have him fire some black arrows at Smaug!
