  1. That's only some of the guns, he comes with the standard 2 sprues for soldiers. That means 3 machine guns, a heavy gun, a sniper rifle, a pistol, and some other accessories like a radio, binoculars, and ammo box. Quite a bit considering the price.
  2. rather than do a post for each of these, I'm doing a big post of all the various little sets I've picked up over the last few days. Anything in the MC2000/2500 line. 5000 stuff is big enough that it could be worth talking about, like the Hwacha. I'm going to post a lot of pictures in here of many sets, so I'll list them now. These all cost around 1500-2000 won, about $1.25 to $1.65 Most of them are just an excuse to sell a minifigure. Set list: MC0825-3 Fire Khan soldier MC2000-7 Gate soldier with helmet MC0825-4 Firefighter MC0825-1 Construction guy MC2000-4 Police man w/stand MC2000-8 Capped soldier with guns MC2000-8 Racing bike MC5000-2 Jeep (this one was 3500won, about $3) I'm going to make some general comments about each one: Fire Khan Soldier The availability of this guy perplexes me. The rest of the line is completely unavailable. I can't find a single set from it except this guy who comes without accessories. I guess he is useful if you want a different style castle body. He has some printed armor and a big helmet. But none of the cool shields and weapons available in the rest of this series. Gate Soldier with Helmet This is the absolutely cheapest way to get a helmet. He comes with a very basic gate, and a unique radio. It isn't on a sprue so you get nothing else. The gate doesn't even come with a sticker, but I had an extra gate sticker from another set so I put it on it. Firefighter This is where we start getting into the weird stuff. There are actually quite a few blocks here, with a ladder, and 3 fires. But in reality I don't see the point. it isn't much of a playset. The whole focus of this set is the firefighter with his cool oxygen tank and faceplate. it actually slides over his head and is loose. This isn't a backpack. they could give us two firefighters and forget the useless half-wall with ladder. Construction guy Of the general mini sets this guy is pretty useful. He could actually integrate well into a construction set with his tool cart and jackhammer. I like him even if his mustache is a little weird. Police man with stand I like this model a lot. The stand is nothing special, but I think the print on the torso is great quality and he also has the unique little radio but no gun. Capped soldier with guns This is your cheapest set with guns. It has a weird half wall that seems to serve no purpose. But it also has a unique military cap. everyone wants the helmets, but this military covered cap only comes in this set. I haven't found it any other set past or present that Oxford makes. Racing Bike an ethnic mini. He's a dark brown guy with a still black printed face which makes it a little hard to see. He comes on a bike with a flame for no reason. The only problem with this is who is he racing? If they sold 4 different ones this might make sense. Bike seems like decent quality, balances okay. Bigger than the old school lego bikes. Jeep For some reason Oxford has made a ton of jeeps over the years. This is an even smaller 4 wide version. It's not bad, except there is no room for anything. The guy can't even sit back in his seat. I had to put a 2x2 under the chair to elevate it enough for him to sit all the way back. Otherwise he had to be leaning forward (while fully seated) The wheels are different than the other jeep. They're plastic. It's a solid model though, and you can stick a big gun in the back for storage which he can grab when he exits. has a half-windshield and giant antenna. You can't stick a gunner in the back. a few more includes some pieces I haven't reviewed yet Conclusion I'm not going to score it because there are many sets here. I think some of the sets are really worth the price. The capped soldier gives you lots of guns. The other sets depend a lot on need. Do you need a cop? Get him he's good. Do you need lots of flames? get either the fire khan or firefighter. They each have 3. Need bikes? Get the racer. etc. playability wise. The construction guy, jeep, and gate soldier are the best. They can integrate well into other sets. The other ones don't add much. The racer is good if need more bike racers for something but I'm not sure if they have a set for that. I'll have to check.
  3. its only because I've got such great models to work with ;) I'm debating getting that CK25000 next. It has an actual tower I could siege. I'm finding out that there have been several castle lines but most of them are gone. The only ones still around are the fantasy and regular one. The other castle line on their product page, with the "discs", seems to be gone, I Can't find it for sale anywhere except for one of the small 2500 series sets with 1 figure and no weapons. They had a couple traditional lines gone, and a couple of "devil castle" lines gone as well. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44401 mini-set round-up (has one I sent you, the gate is different from the one you're getting. You're getting the 2500 series gate not the 2000 series)
  4. Yes, I just wish I could petition Oxford to reduce the size of their weapons on all themes by about 25%. It is not as bad for fantasy stuff, but the military guns are just too oversized. The way some of them are made though I think I could take a hobby knife, cut out a section and use some model glue to put it back together (and maybe give it a touch of gun metal to cover up any seam)
  5. For castle stuff, this is the set to do it with. 5 figures, 2 weapon sprues, couple shields, helmets, it is a pretty decent deal. If you want some unique weapons, armor and an epic sword you might check out this set: only about $5 more than this set. but look at that sword and shield!
  6. Oh hey look I got loose near the toy section again http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44380 GT0722 Siege Engines #2
  7. Name: Siege Machines #2 Theme: Castle/The Great King Gwang-ge-to Pieces: I'd guess 200-300 Price: 12000 won ($9.97 USD) Minifigs: 5 Construction time: 45-60 minutes I picked this up as it was very cheap, even cheaper in stores than online. Not sure why this set is going so cheap, but it is a good price option for figures, weapons and parts Box Nice big box. Has the plastic tie around it that all the bigger boxes have. Sturdy, opens well, shows an alternate build on the back. Instructions Has 2 parts. The battering ram and catapult. As well as a small "how to put together the figs and attach a pole to a horse saddle" instruction. Pieces Lots of stuff here. Some wheels, weapons, paper armor on the leader, unique battering ram and catapult. A couple launchers from the Hwacha, some big flag poles, extra flags, etc Minifigs 5 total, 3 good guys 2 bad guys. A horse. 2 weapon sprues. though half the weapons are for the leader. Standard Oxford quality. Nice printed torsos. Construction Smooth. one issue of note was that on the last step for the catapult, they had the platform facing the wrong way in the instructions, but the right way on the pictures on the back and front. It's trivial to flip it around. Finished model It is a nice battering ram and catapult. Here is the problem though. This particular line from Oxford is small, it only has 6 sets. The hwacha is very unique and there are 3 different sized castles. The problem is these two siege engine sets. The castles basically duplicate them. You need a castle to siege and they all come with siege engines. Now if you want to simulate a giant army attacking, I guess this is handy. Admittedly the models are different than what is in the castle, but how many giant battering rams do 5 guys need to attack a castle? The nice thing about this set is that it does include many extra flags. It is easy to change the affiliation of any particular set. Except for those Goguryeo stickers on the side of the battering ram, but the piece can pop off. I think the idea here is that while all of the sets are keyed as the good guys being in the castle or the owners of the various sets you could easily designate one for the bad guys by changing the flags, divide up the siege engines and go nuts. that set, playability on their own is a little limited, because they have no direct castle to siege, they are meant to be integrated into a castle set. Another bonus of this set because it is cheap and plentiful is custom builds. The castle line is very limited, and I think it might be possible to make some other castle buildings using pieces from this set. Say a blacksmith shop, markets, wagons, and other things, all the while increasing your soldier count. There is a distinct lack of non-soldier figures in this line. One thing this series suffers from is "unique leader overload". Every set except the hwacha has a King. Do you really need that many kings? I think these manufacturers should skip the King in all except the largest set, and sell him individually. His face is plain though, so you could take the paper armor off and have him be a black clothed peasant. Leftovers Conclusion Minifig - 9/10 great a mount of figures, lots of weapons, bits all look and feel great. Parts - 9/10 lots of pieces for such a cheap price, a few unique pieces Playability - 6/10 at least until I really explore what can be done for custom builds in a set, on its own, it's hard to do much besides fight over a battering ram Design - 9/10 both of these units look nice. Feel solid. Price - 10/10 fantastic price for the amount of things you get here. If you want castle stuff, get 5. Total - 43/50 Great set, just make sure you have a castle available to send them to fight.
  8. I got the chinese translated. It is "Goguryeo" it is an old name for one of the three kingdoms of Korea. The king this set is named after was credited with expanding this kingdom to its largest size.
  9. Unless Sluban is making their bricks in Korea, no. All the Korean sets, like the ones you'll be soon receiving have "made in Korea" on them ;)
  10. I just thought I'd mention that 1 week later the smell is still noticeable. It has gone down quite a bit, but if you give it a whiff you can still get it. The smell does seem to be much stronger on the wheels. It could be some kind of rubber smell that permeated into the rest of the pieces while in package. I'm wondering if washing the set would help, but at this point I've put stickers on and glued a couple pieces. I noticed today that they had a 4th set in the series in the shop, a dump truck. If these didn't smell so bad and have random clutch and minifig issues, they'd be a great supplement for a city set.
  11. Do you know if Enlighten has a site? The wiki doesn't link it, but I figured it might be up to date for what sets they have out.
  12. I think we scared him off. I was really hoping to see more pics of his city. The problem with the 6 wide is that it's still not really big enough, with doors, to hold 2 people abreast. If you're making a door-less buggy it could work for 2 people.
  13. maybe...let's see..
  14. I have almost all of the Pirates first run except for about 3 bigger sets. You can see my brickshelf. There were a couple of sets I wasn't sure about I've got to check next I'm home to my parents so I can look at the bins in the attic. My neighbour (who is all grown up with a couple daughters) had a couple of the sets I'm missing (the original fort and Caribbean clipper) I might see if he's around and still has them when I'm home. I think there is one boat I'm missing, but I can't recall right off which one it is (thankfully not the BSB).
  15. You might be able to.. at least close. There isn't too much special in this. Except the launcher piece. I haven't seen anything like that in Lego, but I haven't really kept up with new parts since the late 90s. I don't think you could duplicate the fire bowl or the arrows themselves of course. Oxford is far better quality that you could imagine if you'd ever picked up something like brick lock or ligao. Don't be afraid! here is another design that comes from an older set that is out of print, but I must find
  16. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44234 GT5000 Korean Hwacha
  17. Name: Korean Hwacha Theme: Castle/The Great King Gwang-ge-to Pieces: 50-60 if you include weapons and other bits Price: 3500 won ($2.91 USD) Minifigs: 1 Construction time: 20 minutes This is my first castle/fantasy set from Oxford. This is based on a real weapon that Korea invented in the 1500s. It's an anti-personnel weapon that launches 200 arrows with gunpowder strapped to them. It can do so at a range of 500 meters. This weapon apparently made an appearance on Mythbusters a couple years ago where they confirmed that it could do all those things. Smaller sets are harder to come by in Korea, at least in stores. So I ordered this on top of some other stuff I was ordering for someone else. Box This box shows the 3 parts of the set on the front. A soldier on a horse, the Hwacha weapon and a small building/shrine/weapon rack. The back shows an alternative build. I'm not sure what the alternative build is supposed to be. The hwacha is mounted in a wall. I guess if you put those in a hallway in a castle it could be a nasty trap. Instructions Instructions include part lists for each step and are in 3 sections: Hwacha, Weapon rack and horse. Pieces Well, we have a horse. Several Hwacha arrows (6), some wagon wheels, a Hwacha launcher piece, a fire bowl with flame, and a couple Chinese stickers (I'll get them translated later). the shields are stickered (an extra sticker for the small size is included), as is the rock piece on the weapon rack. Minifig Castle soldier. Includes a horned helmet, 2 shields of different sizes, and 4 weapons. Oxford generally puts weapons on sprues, so when you get a set, you often get a ton of extra weapons and bits with them which is pretty cool. In this case you get 2 big bows, a big sword and a large 3 pronged staff weapon, similar to a trident. The figure has a printed pattern on his chest. Construction As usual construction of an Oxford model went smoothly. Good clutch on all pieces, no issues putting anything together. It didn't take too long. About 20 minutes since it was in 3 parts, and I had to do things like place weapons and put on stickers. Real life Hwacha Here are a couple pictures from wikipedia. It is interesting to see that Oxford doesn't just make replicas of real military vehicles they're also making replicas of historical ones. Finished model This is a pretty cool model. Especially considering the price. You get some serious ordinance for your castle/fantasy soldiers. While the replication isn't perfect, it would be difficult to simulate 200 arrows on a model this size. You could remove the parts behind the launcher to load all 6 if you really wanted. The model has a handle on the back so the soldier can position it to attack his enemies. It rolls smoothly and is of a decent size. The horse is actually interesting. The head is not as printed as a Lego horse, but the body has printed armor. The horse also has two connectors on it's back. In this case used for the shield holders. Most of the other sets come with a saddle. But without a saddle you can ride two people on the horse. This is kind of neat for some dioramas. The weapon rack is nice. It's very simple, but has an appealing look. The fire lamp could be useful, and I really like the Chinese character sticker (a spare is included). It can hold two weapons plus two Hwacha arrows. I think playability is good with this. On its own, maybe not that much, but worked into a castle theme which is the intention there is a lot of options here. Extra weapons, a horse and some artillery, and a weapon rack to call all his own. The mechanic gets a lift to his latest job Conclusion Minifig - 9/10 Lot's of accessories. He looks nice, has a nice torso piece. Arms and legs are very solid and even firmer than some of the other sets I've gotten. Parts - 8/10 tons of accessories, a horse, not too many unique bits Playability - 8/10 this will work very well in a castle theme Design - 8/10 looks very nice I'd like to see the Hwacha look a little more like the picture. Perhaps drop those back pieces, and put a 6x4 instead of 4x4 flat on the top. It looks nice now, but doesn't resemble the real one as closely as it could. Mind you the real one was not that attractive Price - 10/10 Really good value here. Lots of weapons and bits for a very low price. Total - 43/50 If you're into castle, I recommend this set. For the price you just cannot go wrong.
  18. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44186 Excavator VC5000-2 Oxford of course.
  19. Name: Excavator Theme: Vehicle Collection/City Pieces: 56 (rough count) Price: 3900 won ($3.25 USD) Minifigs: 1 Construction time: 10 minutes Working on making my reviews a little more snazzy. By snazzy I mean that you don't need to see my modem cables. That's snazzy right? The local super duper mart got in a new shipment of sets. They're still not really carrying many impulse sets, but they did get a bunch of the smaller vehicle collection series in. It's 4 sets that give you some basic vehicles related to city stuff. I picked up the excavator because it goes with that terrible bulldozer/front end loader. Box the box is your standard Oxford box. Though they do tend to put extra tape on smaller ones. Doesn't really make it hard to open, just creates a bit of an odd look if the tape isn't put on well. You can see a bit of a line going down this box. front back - showing an alternate build The box opens well like all Oxford boxes. No tearing at a breakaway circle to open this up. open end Instruction Standard Oxford instructions. Clear, with boxes telling you which bricks to use for each step. These instructions include instructions for all vehicles. Apparently they only wanted to print one sheet. This set contains the most instructions at 14. Scan of instructions Pieces Some wheels, a bucket, a megaphone and a turret. Other than that nothing else overly interesting. Pieces are standard Oxford quality which means good clutch and they look good. Pieces out of the box Minifig Construction Pretty fast model. Not overly huge. Nothing tricky. Pieces went together well as always. Starts off with a base A view inside the cabin Complete Model What can I say? This review is bigger than the model. It's a decent little excavator. Compact, moves well, has a turret to add mobility. The only gripe I have is the lack of hinge on the cabin. I need a few more Oxford sets to really confirm it but so far the two non-bot sets I've gotten with hard tops don't have hinges, which means pulling a piece to put the figure in or take him out. Otherwise it's a well built model that looks good. the stickers add a lot to it and really make the model stand out. Good playability. Mobility, the arm really extends far. A few completed shots Hey you - Get that crappy Bulldozer out of here! You know, that Bulldozer kind of matches my pants so it does..so it does.. Conclusion Minifig - 7/10 Good Oxford quality, but no real accessories. The face could be a bit better on him. His mustache looks more like big lips. Parts - 7/10 It's an impulse set. The amount of unique interesting parts per $ is a little low though compared to a few other sets. The tires aren't the good ones that I've seen on my military sets so far. Playability - 8/10 good playability. Good mobility. I think it would integrated well into a city set. Design - 8/10 For the size, it's designed well, but a hinged roof would be appreciated. Price - 9/10 I usually give Oxford full marks, but not even doubling the price would get me a jeep with better wheels, a little nicer windshield, weapons, a helmet, and some other pieces. Does it work out per $? I don't think so. Total: 39/50 Another decent set that I wouldn't turn down and would be happy to have in a collection (and am!) Is it the greatest thing ever? no. but it shows up and doesn't make you regret buying it. Unlike that dozer.
  20. The bodies are standard figure size with attached giant heads. You should be able to take these and attach to any minifigure. Even Lego.
  21. Gotta agree. The truck does look slick, and it's interesting to have another colour scheme, but the store is silly. A few more bucks and a bigger store would make the set much better. Alternatively if there was another store model that this small store front could attach to that would improve it.

    My City

I like it. I just got the street cleaner guy today. I needed someone to drive my dozer!
  23. Do you have a gallery anywhere of the rest of your city? I'd love to see it~
  24. This looks nice. Someday I'll get my old city sets and some new ones and set up a nice place. Bachus that looks good but you don't use the road base plates for your city?
  25. This is quite good. Very interesting design and I think playability would be high with it as well.
