Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

This is a very interesting thought. Because I missed Town Hall I didn't know it was an anniversary kind of set. Makes me super excited for what they come up with. -

I am curious if we are going to see a people pack next year. We had two in 2019 and then nothing this year... -
Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
meliander replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you for such detailed answers. I am much more convinced now that it's a good change. My personal dissatisfaction with road base plates was mainly the fixed width of the roads (it's hard to make 2 lane wide streets like they did in old Lego commercials without physically cutting the plastic) and also I wasn't a big fan of the way they were combined in sets. So from the costs perspective even though $20 is not cheap I guess it's better to have $20 dollars worth of road as opposed to getting another T-section when you just need a straight one. I'm now curious what solution will Lego offer to the curves. -

@Aanchir All your points are valid. But are you saying that baseplates are something that you think they plan to get rid of entirely? I'm talking about those that are sold separately or included in modular buildings and other Creator Expert like sets. I certainly agree that the new system they propose is very functional, but I'm not seeing how to build cities with this system yet. -

The new road system looks good, but the thing I don't understand is why not make it compatible with baseplates? From what I understand the roads are exactly 2 plates now (instead of 1.5), so you can't connect the roads to simple green/gray baseplates... Also, I only have 4 old road plates, but I can imagine the pain of those people who are in the middle of building a city with the old ones. -
LEGO Hidden Side 2020

Ok, I see now what you meant. It's very odd, but still specific to certain territories. -

Can you tell me the sets numbers, please? -

What I think is happening here is that they are retiring the first wave of sets slightly earlier than usual (and stopping production for them), due to the effect of the pandemic and maybe not great sales - which somehow have been misrepresented as discontinuation of the whole line by the retailers who can't place the orders for it now. The recent wave has not been released in US yet, and it's marked as Coming Soon on Lego.com. Will that be exclusive for Lego only or not I don't care - I just don't see them releasing something for a couple of months to discontinue at the end of December. That being said, I wouldn't treat the Customer Support rep as a source of information - they will never tell you anything else rather than official info - they are not allowed to do so. Will the current wave be the last for Hidden Side - maybe. Will the theme cease to exist by the end of the year - I don't think so. Walmart in US is doing regular summer clearance, with Hidden Side and Friends being the main focus. Most of the stuff went pretty fast, I wasn't been able to catch anything in my area (Massachusets). -
I think the philosophy behind re-releasing of old sets that Lego has been mostly adhering to is selecting something iconic from its history. Taj Majal was iconic, though not necessarily the first of it's kind (the Eifel Tower if I'm not mistaken was the first). WV Toy Shop was the first - and nobody knew back then it will start a new line - so whoever missed it was given a second chance. Town Plan (2008) needs no introduction as well. If anything I would bet Lego will someday re-release or reimagine the Cafe Corner / Green Grocer. So chances of them having releasing a WV Bakery or anything else are pretty slim from my pov.

As long as they don't do a fantasy-themed set, I'm happy with whatever they come up with. The designers that have been working on this theme so far did a very good job on all sets from my POV, and even though I passed on the Gingerbread house, I'm excited for whatever comes next!

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
meliander replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Was really looking forward into picking up the city calendar this year, because I really liked 2019 one. It had such a nice integration into the Winter Village aesthetic which I love to display during the holiday season. Even had a plan to would avoid spoilers and just buy it blindly. But I'm glad I didn't. Hard pass for me. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Info for US: If someone is interested in getting the Assembly Square, it re-appeared today at Lego Shop (online). It is available for backorder only but after several months of being out of stock, it's better than nothing IMO. -

Thank you, @Friscorays I did a search and a lot of websites (mainly made for resellers) are telling that Assembly Square is very likely to be the next one to be retired. -
Love the summer wave. I should seriously consider buying these. I like the plane better than the city one, the wings are brick-built and just looks fantastic. So many nice little buildings. Even the 4+ set is better than anything 4+ in City for my taste. It's just bigger and made from simple but useful parts, giving kids a chance to expirement with MOCing.

I hope you are right! That being said, it doesn't make much sense to me why some of these in US have Temporarily Out of Stock status and not Backorder if they are making more. Why can't they accept people's money if they are ok with paying now and waiting? Probably because the quantity they are going to make will only cover those backorders that have been previously made? It's a perfect way to retire a set - place it on backorder, gather those orders, and just make the exact amount and ship them. Instead of making more than needed and then doing a sale on them. I understand that these are difficult times for any business but a little bit of communication from Lego would be nice or at least hinting better of what they are going to retire and then so that people can make calculated and budgeted purchases instead of guessing and making impulsive purchases. Please correct me, somebody, if I'm getting this wrong :) -
LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
meliander replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great Space Rover! I wish the the color scheme was closer to the City Space of last year, but overall I'm very happy. I share your fears, but I think that the current world situation wouldn't affect these sets in particular, but the whole Lego inventory. So they will still see how these are doing relative to other themes. Being awesome as they are I'm inclined to be optimistic. I have a feeling that next year they will do something castle-themed for us, too (in addition to the Blacksmith ideas set). -

That huge boat looks amazing. It's like a childhood dream from that 90s catalog multiplied several times so that an AFOL in me can appreciate it. -

10265, 10264 out of stock on lego.com, not even on backorders. In US Walmart, Amazon, Target are cleaned up. Resellers jacked up the prices 2x. I hope once we get over COVID Lego will bring these sets back and not just decide to retire both. I am particularly worried about Assembly Square since I was hoping for it to go on Sale on Black Friday like they did for Parisian Restaraunt. -
The same thing happened to me. It was spoiled by some website that randomly came up in the google newsfeed on my phone which I don't usually pay much attention to, but I browsed it randomly and it just flashed "this is this took 100k for the grand prize on Lego Master". Who the hell makes the article names like that, spoiling the whole thing. Ugh. @BlueberryWaffles I felt the same thing. Overall the show was pretty good, and I don't mind the drama and the host with jokes and stuff. But I felt that they could show us less of contestants running back and forth to the brick walls and showing more of how they actually build their models and, as Paradosis mentioned, give more time to appreciate the final builds (especially those that are not giant sculptures).

@ukbajadave Sorry, I think I meant "enough Lego" (English is not my first language, but because of your reply, I learned something new today, thank you for that! :) It was very interesting to read all the answers and how folks feel about their hobby. The question first came up to my mind when I was updating my never-ending Wanted list on Brickset and wondering if I am crazy or not :)

The roof design and the interiors are my favorite part of this amazing MOC.

Amazing work! I love how the underside is polished, too.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
meliander replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wanted to share some of my thoughts regarding CMFs. So I haven't been collecting these since the first 3 series. And the reason for that was very simple - I just couldn't stand the quality. They didn't feel like true Lego to me. Now recently I decided to check what's going on with these and bought one from series 19 (the hacker girl). The quality is awful. The legs are super loose, the arms, the hands are rotating freely. And just the plastic has a different feel to it. But that's not why I'm writing this - I also bought 6 DC Collectible minifigs, which were supposed to be priced at $4.99, however I found them for $3.49 on Amazon. I was so pleased to find out that the quality is so much better. The first thing I noticed is that the torso has a black marker in the neck area, which was odd, because they don't do that for CMFs. And all 6 figures were consistently great in terms of quality. The plastic doesn't feel cheaper, the legs and arms are nice and tight, the hands have strong clutch power. This gives me hope folks, for series 20. As I said, I haven't been collecting since wave 3 and I'm excited about all minifigs in series 20, they all seem new and fresh to me. If that jump in price was needed to bump the quality up - I'm all for it. That being said I will purchase them when discounted anyway (i.e. at the 3.99 or 3.49 which feel like the right price to me). -
Excellent work! The original and fire cars are my favorite.
