  1. I bought Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor at Target on July 28th and a figureless 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack off eBay that arrived yesterday. Love Obi-Wan's fighter despite a goof made on the decals. So happy they made this one. It's a marked improvement on the original, which is scarce and costly besides. The figureless battlepack, I bought mainly to get my hands on one of the newer speeder bikes. Huge improvement over the bike that 4483 originally came with, so it has replaced that one.
  2. A couple of significant details that were omitted: the secondary pair of laser cannons up near the cockpit, and a slide-out missile rack (functional or dummy doesn't matter, the important thing is having it) below the main guns. Perhaps I was a bit hasty since we have yet to see Boba Fett use them and it's the Slave I in its second paintjob (after Hondo Ohnaka rebuilt it to patch up the problem from the end of Season 2), but still.
  3. The other solution I can see to this issue is simply to not leave the sets built for months at a time. They are building toys, after all, not permanent kits. :p
  4. And in that year, LDD's hinge tool has not gotten any better. I would go with the lower design, since it makes allowance for cramming a second minifig on.
  5. Fair enough, though why not cut off the rest of the string once the length you need for the texture once is in place? I ask because I'm puzzled.
  6. Regarding the Nebulon B.. I suspect that one of the main reasons Lego has been hesitant with that one is the fact that it wouldn't be able to stand without a stand. The same goes for the Invisible Hand from Episode III. They have a large, narrow downward protrusion at one end with nothing at the other. So they'd need external support. Cedbricks, LaChupacabra, what Paddy's talking about is the TIE/sh that Brickdoctor mentioned. It's externally nigh-identical to a TIE Bomber, but the second hull is for passenger accommodation instead of ordnance. Has anyone done the Outrider yet? I'm still hoping for an official one.
  7. Would slipping a shim under the wing solve the problem?
  8. Well, that's partly what I was getting at. If you're not employing it as a play feature, why include the whole bundle of string at all? It serves no visual purpose and just seems like unnecessary bother.
  9. No hook or stud on the other end? Then why have the string at all? In the movies the tow cable is pretty much completely inside the harpoon gun until fired, so there's no real point in having the string if there's nothing on the other end to attach to an AT-AT.
  10. Well, as long as it has the string. That's the most important part. As far as a winch goes, I think it would work if you mounted it upside-down, with the spool as close to the bottom as possible. Then you'd be able to fiddle it with your finger to wind the string back in.
  11. Is it bad that I think the use of gray instead of white is just as cool as the clever engineering? It's a shame there isn't an operating winch hidden in the body, but that would be tricky to squeeze in at this size.
  12. That looks very excellently designed overall, and also of a similar size to the "Battle of Endor" AT-ST (which I think is the best size since it towers over minifigs a good bit while not being too tall next to AT-AT sets). If I may make a suggestion for stability, try replacing the ball joints in the ankles with perpendicular axle joiners (The piece with one dead-end axle socket and one through axle socket; always thought it looked like a hair dryer). Attach them to the horseshoe sockets with axles and cap the axles with bushings. Should be a lot stiffer.
  13. This is a very nicely designed and put-together model. And the fanon variant it represents is interesting; was it intended to be a torpedo-bomber counterpart to the TIE/Gt?
  14. As much as an updated full-on UCS Tantive IV would be neat, I think an updated version of 10030 (the original Star Destroyer set from 2002) would work better for honoring ANH. An updated UCS Star Destroyer, with an updated miniature Tantive IV for it to capture.
  15. Perhaps, but critique and comments are still appreciated. Oh, that. I don't do messages like that for attention, it's more castigation to try and keep my ego and behavior in check; I've got a bad habit of getting hyperdefensive about shoddy work and for posting stuff that's out of line. EDIT: Changed my signature. And a bit of an update: I splurged the last little bit of my spending money on an 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack (sans minifigs), so that means this set is getting an upgraded speeder bike.
  16. Some of those bricks are hand-me-downs that were played with outside a lot (like the yellow 4x6 plate). Most of what you see is either sun-discoloration or shelf dust. And fighting shelf dust is kind of a losing battle for me at present. But I will spot-clean what I can before I put the set away again. What do you think of the modifications themselves, though??
  17. I just hope that whatever else it is, the upcoming new UCS snowspeeder set is gray. I don't think the 2015 Slave 1 deserves the UCS label. There are a couple of glaring screwups that make me say that one needs a revised rerelease ASAP. And ideally LEGO should offer a correction kit for people who have the 2015 version. And speaking of do-overs.. I hope we get a real UCS Naboo Starfighter.
  18. This is amazing. I love all the work you put into capturing the shape and contriving that wing mechanism. I also really like the color.
  19. UPDATE BUMP: I have drastically revised how I've modified the set. By dispensing with the brick-built armchairs, I was able to make the side trays accommodate five troopers (four seated, one standing) each. And by making the side panels hinged at the top for more access (which required making them stick out an extra plate), I was able to add an upper deck comprised of a pair of 2x10 plates. Each side seats four troopers, although snowtroopers in the rearmost spot have to stand because of the backpack. With the revamped seating arrangements, I am once again able to store the speeder bike (which itself is something I'd like to replace considering) The central tray I added to provide more troop seating has now been converted to a weapon storage tray. This isn't to do with troop capacity, but I did this at the same time. I cured the floppiness of the head sides by replacing the 1x2 hinge bricks with 2x2 tops, using instead a combination of hinge plates. It holds much more solidly. Bonus shot: Here's another unintended place you can put a trooper. The revamped modifications have brought the troop capacity up by seven. One trooper on the speeder bike, eighteen in the middle. Plus the pilot. Not the full in-universe complement of forty troopers plus cockpit crew, but not bad.
  20. This is very impressive. The capacity, the detail, the speeder bike garage.. It is absolutely beautiful. Equally beautiful is your gray snowspeeder and its properly-deep inward angle on the wing edges.
  21. This is all pretty awesome, except for the Invisible Hand's black forequarter. While it is indeed darker in the film, it's not that dark. Dark gray/blay would be much more appropriate.
  22. My solution to that is to just not care; I gleefully mingle troops with old and new prints. I'm the sort who doesn't feel a need to upgrade unless a new part or print really does it for me in a way that what I have doesn't. Example: Anakin's hairpiece that was introduced in TCW versus the classic centrally-parted long hair piece his 2005 ROTS figure. Speaking of Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Knight look: BROWN OR DARK BROWN SLEEVES! YOU GOT THIS RIGHT IN TCW LEGO, WHY DID YOU GO BACK TO GIVING HIM BLACK SLEEVES?! ARGH! Sorry about the outburst, but that drives me crazy. And there's another outburst coming up in this post I disagree with using tousled hair for Han, at least for the Original Trilogy. His hair always looked to me like he does what he can to keep it neat, so I think the classic hairpiece suits him better. What said classic hair doesn't suit, however, is the Padawan crew-cut. Nor does the hairpiece used on Anakin in the 2013 Republic Gunship and 2015 Azure Angel sets. Do you know what would work for it? THE CREW-CUT HAIRPIECE THAT LEGO HAS HAD SINCE TWO THOUSAND FREAKING TWO!!! That would be the second outburst.. IDK if this piece is available in colors besides black but the shape is right. It would also suit Thrawn better than the TCW Count Dooku hairpiece I saw someone else use. As far as unmade characters go: Anakin's ROTS robes combined with a 2004 or 2005 Hermione face (unless someone has a better suggestion) and blond long hair of your choice (I would suggest the classic piece for reasons of clearance) would make for a decent Siri Tachi. Kit Fisto's head painted medium blue (or cast in it if LEGO ever makes an official version) and given red eyes would be a good way to do Nym's head. Can't think of a torso piece off the bat right now though, I'll have to come back to that (and this list in general). Watto's head-and-torso piece would work for Reti, though some painting of different details would be required.
  23. One of the disappointing things about 4483 is that, as built, it only has spots for five troopers and a pilot (although there are two places that you can fit additional troopers that were definitely not designer-intended). So I decided to change that, and currently have come up with something that does the trick with fairly minor modifications. First, here's a shot of one of the pair of unintended spots I was talking about: Next up is part one of the mod: By inserting a pair of axle-pins into the chassis, I'm able to insert and remove a 4x6 plate, and that's seating for three additional troopers. And now the final part of the mod: Here I could just drop in a 4x6 plate (this one with a 2x4 plate on the underside so it would slot in), letting me seat another three troopers. I also built some simple weapon racks. With minimal effort, I was able to increase the capacity to twelve troopers (which, as it happens, is all I have currently. And it can be plainly seen that I don't give a rat's behind about mixing new troops with old). The downside, as you can see, is that doing it the way I did here means sacrificing the speeder bike storage. I'm going to see how much I can do just with modding the side trays so that I don't have to give that up (Say goodbye to the comfy chairs, troopers), but this is what I've got for now.
  24. What the heck gave you that impression? This year alone we've had Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor, an Episode III remake of the 2013 Homing Spider Droid set, and a new Episode III Clone Turbo Tank. 1. As thin and flat as modern decals are, I see minimal issues. But if you're so sure, then how about just alternate heads? 2. Ventress' fanblade is a carryover from the old flashtoon Clone Wars series anyway, and we did get its counterpart, Anakin's Azure Angel. 3. You entirely miss the point of what I propose. Currently, the best MTT set out there is 7662 from 2007, which had rack space for and included 16 regular battle droids, plus had 2 pilot battle droids and 2 security battle droids. Pretty good. With a movielike rack design and with how compact battle droids are, an MTT would not have to be much bigger than that (if any bigger at all) to have an even greater capacity. However, if 2014's MTT regressing to the troop rack capacity of the original 2000 set (a mere six droids) plus one to ride the STAP is anything to go by, Lego seems to no longer be willing to produce a standard class MTT set that comes with a large number of battle droids. Therefore, I am proposing instead an MTT that comes with even fewer droids but still has rack space for several more, much as the 2013 Republic Gunship only comes with a couple of clones but has space for many more. In other words, rack comes mostly-empty but big, gets filled up with battle droids you've gotten from other sets.
  25. I'd love to see the following: Microfighters: V-Wing with Clone Pilot (Head double-printed to have fully-covered face on one side and face with tinted visor on the other) Z-95 with Assault Clone Pilot Rebel Y-Wing with Battle of Endor Y-Wing Pilot B-Wing with B-Wing Pilot Speeder bike with Endor Rebel Trooper Ice-cutter speeder with Hoth Rebel Trooper AAC-1 tank or weaponized X-34 landspeeder with ANH Rebel Trooper Standard: Smaller, more budget-friendly X-Wing, Y-wing, B-wing sets, with blank-headed pilots whose identities are determined by stickers (This avoids the "Leftover figures" issue) Fanblade Starfighter with Asajj Ventress. A new Hyena Droid Bomber set, basically the same central body as 8016 (albeit with two pieces exchanged for a pair of shooter bricks) but with new, more accurate wings. The Havoc with Nym and Kole (And barring separate sets of the Zoomer and the Freefall, perhaps Reti and Jinkins as well. LEGO has the parts for doing Toydarians and Bith). Kit Fisto's headpiece in medium or sand blue, with different printing, could be used for Nym's head. For those unfamiliar with it, the Havoc is a ship from the Legends continuity. It's a large "flying wing" bomber, almost like a fat angularized version of a TOS Cylon Raider from BSG. It starred in the games Star Wars: Starfighter and Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter. Ideally it would pack multiple shooter bricks, two downward-facing gatling cannons geared to fire in unison to represent the bombs, and maybe even a Technic cannon. It's a popular ship, with gimmick potential that would have children all over it. A new Delta-7 Aethersprite Jedi Starfighter, with Episode II Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia (basically Stass Allie but with dark gray robes and a blue lightsabre). There are plenty of Clone Wars Delta-7Bs, yes, but the AotC movie version hasn't had a standard-class update ever. It could certainly use one, putting to use newer parts and the lessons learned from that slew of Delta-7Bs. Another MTT remake, possibly in CIS colors to differentiate it from the 2014 version (which inexcusably regressed to the troop capacity of the 2000 version) it would be compensating for. This one would be designed with the same idea as the 2013 Republic Gunship: Doesn't come with a lot of troops, but has the space for them. After all, plenty of sets have come with battle droids that are loose or have no proper rack. A new ARC-170. They've remade so much else from Episode III, may as well get this ship on the shelves again. It features prominently in the opening space battle and has cool gimmicks. A CIS-liveried version of the 2015 AAT, coming with a Command Battle Droid instead of Jar-Jar.
