What was your first LEGO Star Wars set?
Kaijumeister replied to YourLocalB2's topic in LEGO Star Wars
7141 Naboo Fighter and 3340 Star Wars #1 (Sith Minifigure Pack) from Legoland Windsor. Must have been 3 or 4 at the time and that trip will always be a cherished memory. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

A Hovitos Temple diorama would be awesome, my only concern is how the entire set piece is quite linear and segmented, which could prove quite challenging to translate to the ‘bounded’ scope that the diorama sets usually offer. Especially with that piece count. There’s the doorway with spiders, trap with Forrestal, chasm to swing across, and the final fertility idol chamber with the arrow traps. Not to mention the rail for the boulder that runs throughout the temple. All of that would fit a play set better than a diorama in my opinion. But saying that, perhaps the diorama is just the fertility idol chamber? Yoda’s Hut from this year showed us how piece counts can be padded out by small pieces for detail and I can see that being the case here. Not to mention elements like the arrow traps, masonry, and foliage if that part of the temple is what Lego will focus on. -

Haha, looks like I’m one of the few that found most of Moon Knight pretty enjoyable, but then again I approached it having not really engaged with the comics beforehand. It’s fantastic to hear CMF Series 2 is on the way. As long as slots aren’t clogged by figures from What-If?, I’m good. I’d love to get both Moon Knight and Mr Knight, but it seems unlikely given the scope this CMF series needs to cover. Hopefully Moon Knight at least comes with an extra double sided head to represent Marc and Steven (and finally, an accurate Oscar Isaac face print!). In another news, the City Stuntz sets are making their way around the usual leaky place and 60359 features the Ant-Man helmet in a very convenient shade of green. Could just be a coincidence, but people are pointing out how useful that would be for a potential NWH Green Goblin… -
@Flieger I feel the same way about Payakan. Having him be brickbuilt would’ve made for significantly more interesting build, but I also understand that the large moulded pieces do help give the model a presence and heft as well that satisfy the creature’s unique shaping. The Way of Water was an incredible film, the introduction of Jake and Neytiri’s family definitely helped us care for the characters as a whole much more than the first film did, and enough has been said about the immersive visual effects and underwater scenes. The frame rate was…something though. A lot of the action scenes felt like watching a normal video on 1.25x speed. As for the sets themselves, there’s no denying their accuracy! They’re great enough for what they are, but I won’t be picking any up given that other themes take precedence for me. I think something that feels off for me is the Na’avi minifigures’ taller heights making their proportions seem overly lanky. This is especially pronounced for bulky characters like Chief Tonowari.

Yeah those definitely aren’t the best PPP Ratios. But regardless I’m still excited to learn what these sets (and the missing set numbers) will entail. Lego have been on a roll with these summer waves lately so I’m optimistic. -

The quality of most minifigures within the Harry Potter sets is close to perfect as it is, does that theme really need a third CMF? Makes much more sense to have it be for Marvel. -
This is such a cool MOC, nice one! Loved the design of this vehicle in the film, not so much its purpose.

It would be fantastic for Tears of the Wallet to coincide with Tears of the Kingdom. But damn, it’d be a dream come true if we got any sets to coincide with the Breath of the Wild games. There are a plethora of unique outfits for Link in the first one that would make for some stunning minifigures. I’ve enjoyed admiring the Mario theme from afar but getting another Nintendo theme with minifigures would be lovely. -
Got these a while ago, but: - The entire Summer wave, save the Justifier. I really tried to like that set but it just fails to appeal to me. Oversized and sacrificed a good interior just to cram that admittedly cool landing mechanism. Here’s hoping next year’s flagship summer set is much better, LAAT/i please! - UCS Razor Crest. Time to go back into hibernation until next May-August.

For sure, it’s just wishful thinking on my part. Just seems odd to release sets after a film as big as this, but there’s certainly a precedent for it looking at the Avatar 2 wave. -

Plot Twist: It’s a buildable object of Peter’s sewing machine from the ending. Simply iconic. This definitely raises my hopes that we’ll get 2-3 NWH sets (although even one big, well done set would be enough!) What an exciting list already! @CF Mitch if my quick Brickset search isn’t mistaken, Marvel sets are currently occupying the 762xx set number range so it’s likely that most of these at least are from Marvel. -

I’m assuming this summer list isn’t exhaustive, because that’s a lot of small sets. It’s always great to see smaller, cheaper sets, but so many of this summer’s best sets (BD-1, Scythe, AT-TE, heck, even Ambush on Ferrix) occupied the higher price points. I hope this isn’t all there is for the summer given how light the January wave has been. -

Can’t believe these sets are only 4 months away. I’m still holding out a fool’s hope that we get them a little earlier so the Dial of Destiny wave can hit in May-June to coincide with the film’s release without having to debut after it’s hit theatres. -

@wesker Completely agree. A D2C Statue of Liberty Battle would look great, but why price out the majority of your potential buyers when smaller sets would have just as much appeal with much more accessibility? I think having 2-3 sets progressively going up to the £100/£120 pricepoint would hit the sweet spot. Really the bridge battle, apartment fight, and Statue of Liberty showdown are the only scenes I can imagine Lego drawing from. Plus that also leaves plenty of room for other sets too for 2HY. -
I’m not the biggest fan of the first film, but I’ll be watching the Way of Water tomorrow and couldn’t be more excited. Already have the AMP Suit and Floating Mountains sets but have yet to build them. One thing I’ve noticed is that any RDA vehicle in these sets always come secondary to the Pandoran wildlife and location builds. As models for play and even display, they work well enough, but they’re always undersized and perhaps lacking in a bit of detail too. The AMP Suit, Samson, Mako Sub, and Crabsuit all feel like they’re missing something, despite being strong enough builds. It’ll be interesting to see the longevity of this theme, the first two waves have already been solid with great vehicle, creature, and location builds. Even if the theme ends after this, it’s had a good run.

It’s funny - next year has a decent amount of new MCU projects that are exciting enough, but I still look forward to NWH sets more than anything else. Lego are certainly aware of the demand if that interview MiniSuperHeroesToday had Mark Stafford is any indication. If we do get them, I hope the sets are of a good enough quality to make the wait worth it. I would love to see both Goblin variants (that purple hood and goggles look is fantastic) and all three Spider-Men decked out with good printing and alternate heads. Not to mention the fact that basing these on the film itself rather than pre-release concept art means the sets will be accurate to the source material too. It’s what I want most out of this theme for 2023, really hope we don’t have to wait until 2024 and beyond -

Lego are the embodiment of the Surprised Pikachu meme at this point. Really don’t understand the point of holding off this long. Excited to get that TIE Bomber! -

New moulds can always be a double edged sword. The Stormtrooper helmet looks good from certain angles, but I feel the design tries to stay too true to the source material that it loses a little of that abstract caricaturisation that makes Lego so appealing. You also have examples like Tech’s helmet which just should have been scrutinised and refined a little bit more before being approved. Conversely the unique helmet moulds made for characters like Enfys Nest, Knights of Ren etc. hit that sweet spot for me in terms of good design. With the TIE Pilot, changing minifigure head prints like @Graupensuppe said to have a balaclava covering most of the head makes the most sense, and is also quite accurate to canon. Otherwise all I can think is that these pilots have a convenient spot for Lego Rebel snipers to target. All in all, the TIE Bomber looks pretty good! Not having brick-built frames on the wings like the 2021 TIE is a shame but understandable I guess, however I’m most disappointed that the cockpit window isn’t really a window at all. There’s something right about seeing a minifigure behind a cockpit viewport that just completes the experience of having a Lego-ised starship for me, but I can understand why the designers couldn’t provide that in this instance. All in all, the TIE is a definite buy for me, and I’ll buy the Battle Pack if we get Rex in another set next year. I don’t mind these thoroughly downsized winter waves as long as the summer wave will be something special, and they always have been these recent years. -

Amen to that. I’ve suffered so much with this game that if I were a Harry Potter character, my patronus would be Oggdo Bogdo himself. I do hope we get to see Trilla and some Purge Troopers in a set at one point or another. A TIE Interceptor would be a great way to go about, it but we’re already getting the Mandalorian S3 version so that’s essentially impossible. -

@Classic_Spaceman That trailer looks AMAZING. I started my third playthrough of Fallen Order yesterday to prepare for Survivor and forgot how great the game is. If we don’t get any sets for this series in the summer wave, I’ll be sorely disappointed. I partially think we got the buildable BD-1 this year because Lego would rather hold off for another year before making a System-scale Jedi set so there would be a more current piece of media for it to align against. I’m still of the opinion that the Justifier was a letdown and should’ve been the Mantis instead, but at least we got Cad, Todo, and Omega out of it. So having seen the review for the 501st Specialists, is anyone else surprised at how blatantly Lego is being misleading with the officer? I know packaging art usually touches up things like print quality, but this is the first example I can think of where the package art shows an inaccurate arrangement of physical pieces with the rangefinder. It’s like they themselves know how off it looks on the real thing. On the topic of the summer wave, looks like next year will be quite dense with SW content. Bad Batch S2, Mando S3, Jedi: Survivor, Ahsoka, Visions S2, Skeleton Crew, and potentially the Acolyte. No doubt it’ll be impossible to keep up with all this in a single summer wave, but at least Mando is more or less covered with the two March sets. -
Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion

Don’t want to veer too much off topic, but just wanted to express my enthusiastic agreement with this. Stories like LOTR and the Star Wars Original Trilogy are timeless precisely because they’re unafraid to be idealistic. Cynicism is a low hanging fruit for stories and I’m glad these two examples at least remain untouched by it. Back on topic, the Brickheadz are…Brickheadz I guess. They have some nice features but overall come off as so low effort, especially Frodo’s hair. It’s a shame given how far MOCs have come to show the potential behind Brickheadz as a creative medium - with the ability to squeeze in so much detail within a relatively small footprint. Speed Champions comes to mind as a theme that pushes the boundaries of using pieces in new and creative ways whilst maintaining a small volume. I’ll pick up Gandalf and the Balrog just to support the ‘return’ of this theme and to take a first (and only) dip into Brickheadz, but I can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic to do so. Also, regarding the old Hobbit sets, I always felt the initial Unexpected Journey wave was rather strong. It was with the two sequels that subsequent waves of sets began to feel more and more like just film tie-ins. But perhaps the esteem I hold An Unexpected Gathering to has positively tinted my view for the rest of that initial wave. -

Perhaps the 501st were revisited because we’ll be getting Rex soon? With the 2020 Battle Pack being retired, it makes sense to have troops for Rex to command available for purchase. Might just be wishful thinking on my part, but it certainly explains why we didn’t get another legion. Especially as Lego were willing to draw from the 212th and 187th (of all legions!) just this year anyway. Can’t wait to see the TIE Bomber. -

‘Featuring New-for-Summer-2024 Surprise Reveal Packaging! Use your Jedi senses to discover what’s inside’ The copy writes itself! And in a move as old as time, Lego’s official reveals get beaten to the punch by leaks. The Microfighter is nice enough, and I’m pleasantly surprised by the Battle Pack. @Clone OPatra I’m curious about this too. The rangefinder is noticeably lower than the helmet hole in the box art, minifigure call-out, and back of the box. If this is more misdirection from Lego, they’re being surprisingly consistent with it. Wouldn’t be surprised if the real thing just sits on the existing helmet hole though. This considered, it does point out the fact that the holes for the clone visors make the rangefinders sit far too high. Also, we’ll be getting more details on Jedi: Survivor later this week. Would love to get some tie-in sets in the summer wave this time, even if Lego doesn’t want to allocate one of the flagship price points for the Stinger Mantis. -

Feels like Lego are trying to outdo themselves in revealing sets as late as possible. I’m not particularly excited about the contents of the winter wave yet can’t wait to see them! I’m sure we’ll see these by end of the coming week if not sooner. Looks like themes are getting revealed in ‘batches’ every day at the moment.
