Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is Lego Superheroes after all, shortcuts and penny pinching are the name of the game more than any other theme. Plus with WWII Cap coming in the logo set, I can definitely see a set based on the final fight from Winter Soldier reusing these figures. One of these days, just one of these days, if we can get the main trio of Cap, Iron Man, and Thor with dual moulding / arm printing etc. I’d be so happy. Cap especially. I feel like Falcon’s wings in the Civil War set are the best brick-built iteration of them so far, glad to hear Lego continue to refine it given how blocky previous versions have been. -

It seems like a huge oversight to base Bucky’s design on the Winter Soldier film (especially as he has new prints), maybe there’s finally a CA: TWS set planned for the summer and they just couldn’t bother / didn’t have budget to make two variants of him? -

I can totally understand how adding the police car in the Spider-Verse set enhances playability for younger builders (and that is the bottom line at the end of the day), but all the same all those pieces should’ve been used towards expanding the building itself IMO. Miles’ new hairpiece looks awesome and I won’t comment on how Pepper Potts is cosplaying as Gwen Stacy. I’d be more keen on that set if the CMF wasn’t on the way, however I’m now happy to be patient and wait because at least it’ll have a good enough budget. Venom’s muscle car looks surprisingly good! Finally a vehicle that isn’t just adding to the Spider-fleet. The mechs look really solid too. More than any other theme at this point, with Marvel we should always temper expectations because the end product is always going to be full of compromises. With most themes, seeing leaked set lists and eventually the actual product has some degree of consistency with balancing expectation against reality, however I’ve been finding that with Marvel the whiplash of getting excited about a set by its name and then seeing the end result is quite strong most of the time. -

I’ve had this issue too on my iPhone and iPad for ages, the emotes never work. If we do get a Kylo Ren figure again this year, it’d be the perfect time to revisit his helmet mould and make it more proportional. Better yet would be to make a dual helmet / hood piece. -

I didn’t realise Brickset interviewed the LSW design team on the Sail Barge! Link for those who were unaware like me - there’s a few parts to it but this is the minifigure-focused one. But wow, they called out the Desert Skiff Boba being completely inaccurate and the answer was ‘there are a lot of considerations’. I totally understand budget constraints and I remember how illuminating Mark Stafford’s AMA on Reddit about the Daily Bugle was, especially in how he explained how carefully new moulds and prints are always considered, but with Star Wars these sets are beyond overpriced to begin with! Generally I do think Lego Star Wars has put out some fantastic sets this decade (especially after 2021), but what annoys me is the lack of proper upgrades to evergreen ships. Sure if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but you look at vehicles like Ahsoka’s Eta-2 where it’s largely quite similar in build and scale to previous iterations, but this time with a rather pointless new cockpit piece and of course a far heftier price tag. I wish there would be more of an effort to improve these things from the ground up, and it makes me think that whenever we do get a new Snowspeeder, it’s mostly going to be the same sort of build as what we last got in 2019. That aside, Max’s teases about LSW fans eating good next summer and having plenty of highly requested minifigures in the pipeline is quite exciting to hear. Personally I’d love to see Anakin and Obi-Wan in their Clone Wars armour along with something from Jedi: Survivor but all of that seems extremely unlikely. Regardless I’m excited to hear about what’s in store, especially as we’ve gotten a lot of ‘iconic’ OT sets out of the way this year. -

As much as I think a buildable K2 would work really well, I sincerely hope the second Andor set is a proper set and not another statue / display piece. Was hoping the summer wave would be devoid of more display pieces given how front-loaded 2025 already is with them (at this rate, will they actually outnumber minifigure scale sets?) but an Ewok does make some sense and will go nicely with Threepio and Artoo. -

Lego Icons Lobelia Sackville-Baggins with Bilbo’s Spoons™️ Battle Pack. Getting the dwarves with Bag-End would be great, because getting a range of Hobbit minifigures (I.e. the same template with the same hairpiece just with different prints) in a big Icons set would be underwhelming IMO. I can definitely see the set including Gandalf’s cart too. I’ll be interested to see how Lego’s approach towards LotR will evolve once the Hunt for Gollum nears release. Will we get a combination of classic trilogy sets and tie-ins like the old days I wonder? After clearing out much of my existing Star Wars collection and perhaps with a reinvigorated interest because of reading the LotR books again, I’m this close to ordering Rivendell. Amazon currently have it for £365 which is awfully tempting. -

It’s remarkable how few CIS-focused sets we’ve received since the renewed interest in the Clone Wars era after 2020. The AAT has literally been it. I’d love to see a Vulture Droid at the very least (as long as it isn’t £40+), especially with modern building techniques. From a GAR standpoint, this has been a fantastic decade with AT-TEs, LAAT/i’s, AT-RTs, BARC Speeders, Swamp Speeders, turrets / cannons etc. The Separatist side is vastly outmatched in comparison. As nice as it is to get plenty of Jedi Starfighters, not having enemy ships for them to dogfight against is a shame. As unlikely as it is, I really hope we begin to see rumblings of what’s due next summer soon. Hopefully there’s enough to get excited about. -

Whilst true, we’ve seen with the upcoming Mario Kart lineup that Lego can make brickbuilt vehicles for larger figures (or figure equivalents in that case). -

I feel like that mould has probably been one of the most overused wig pieces since it debuted in 2009. Marvel certainly loves it. These sets look okay IMO, I would’ve loved to get a ‘proper’ Hagrid’s Motorcycle set based on the opening of Deathly Hallows Part 1 with a few Death Eaters thrown in as opposed to what we’re actually getting. -

Nice to hear Bag End will be cheaper than Rivendell and Sauron’s Skyscraper, but I do hope the minifigure selection is more interesting than several hobbits and perhaps Gandalf (new hair / hat please!) and a Nazgul or two. It’d be great to get Thorin and company from the Hobbit films, but I doubt Lego will be willing to resurrect that many old moulds for a one-off set. The other set is presumably the Balrog one teased by T & N Bricks. Hopefully a minifigure compatible set that includes Gandalf annd perhaps a new Glamdring mould, and not simply a poorly realised statue that Lego loves clogging licensed themes up with these days. -

Oh for sure, I do wonder if the Kelleran set would have been made if he had been killed at the end of the flashback though. Definitely not a coincidence that the ARC-170 and Plo’s JSF are releasing within the same year. Part of me hopes Lego will attempt a dual moulded piece for the Clone Pilots with a visor, but that approach seldom works out. -

If Lego chose to make a scene on the Order 66 flashback sequence from Mando S3, I don’t think it’s impossible to get one based on the Ahsoka flashback scene eventually. Only thing is an AT-TE would’ve made the most sense which I can’t imagine will be revisited anytime soon. Ever since we got Mace in his Clone Wars armour with arm printing, I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed for getting Anakin and Obi-Wan in their Clone Wars armour too. That and P1 Rex are the only figure variants I still want from that era. Home One looks great, pleasantly surprised to see Hera in there! These midi-scale ships aren’t my thing but they’re certainly nice to look at. As harsh as my opinion has been on Ahsoka’s Eta-2, her minifigure looks excellent and I appreciate how they’ve mostly accomplished the Jedi Order logo being emblazoned on the ship through bricks and stickers. I know it’s a trivial mod to make and I suspect Lego have mostly dropped these because they’re quite fiddly, but I really miss starfighters having control yokes for minifigures to hold. It always added a nice degree of interaction between character and vehicle. -

Wow, that Horizon set looks stunning! I played a bit of Zero Dawn a few years ago but maybe I should revisit the game. Always love it when we get a well priced licensed set with new moulds, great builds, and beautiful package art. Really cool to see they made a specialised mould for Aloy’s bow this time round. @Lyichir I already own the Great Deku Tree but some non-18+ sets based on Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom would make me so happy. -

A Spider-Verse CMF is excellent news, I only wish it would release sooner than September. It makes complete sense to focus an entire CMF series on this as the number of detailed prints and new moulds for characters spanning the two films so far could never be accommodated within the Superheroes budget anyway. @JohnTPT17 I always find it amusing how minifigure-compatible mechs / buildable figures that actually make sense in the source material are often overlooked by LEGO. This year’s Surrey and Sentinel, and the Ant-Man from next year’s Civil War set are definitely a step in the right direction at least. -

Yeah I definitely feel the same way, but bear in mind the timing of the 2024 summer set list was definitely an aberration - we don’t usually receive news on those so early. For 2021/2/3 I remember we only got details of the summer wave after January / February. I suspect the dominance of buildables will be lessened somewhat after June, and that’s when we’ll start to see more sets that are actually interesting. As things stand, the fact that we only know of Ahsoka’s Eta-2, ARC-170, Plo’s Delta-7, and U-Wing (and I suppose the Night Trooper BP?) so far isn’t really enough to generate that much excitement anyway - but it’s a decent start. Funny to think that before 2021, those 5 sets would have made for a January wave in themselves. -
The prospect of a live action Ninjago film is actually pretty awesome IMO, especially if the original showrunners are involved. As much as TLNM wasn’t too great, that initial 2017 tie-in wave still holds up as one of the best Lego subthemes ever produced. Great minifigures, brilliant builds, and extremely reasonable price points. Curious to see that Morro is back next year - story-wise I hope he doesn’t become an antagonist again as his redemption after Possession / Day of the Departed was great to see.

We definitely need smaller sets that aren’t battle packs or mechs / Microfighters. I still think this year’s Moff Gideon vs. Paz Vizsla set achieves the right balance between a solid build and a lineup of desirable minifigures whilst achieving a fairly low price by this theme’s standards. I’d love to see more of that, although discounting price-points Boarding the Tantive IV is by far the gold standard of what affordable Star Wars location builds can be. I guess it varies by taste but I’ve definitely grown tired of Jedi Starfighters being the go-to subject matter for smaller sets. I was expecting to enjoy Jedi Bob’s Starfighter given that it at least plays around with the standard Delta-7 design but in all honesty, it still felt underwhelming. TFA is definitely the most enjoyable ST film for me, although I do wish Finn’s duel with that trooper on Takodana would’ve been a bit longer? It was the first time we saw the blue lightsaber ignited on screen in 10 years. I do hope Lego revisits the Kylo Ren minifigure one day and designs a new helmet / hood mould for him, the helmet piece they used between 2015-19 looked incredibly goofy. Things have been fairly quiet lately, hopefully pictures of the winter 2025 sets and rumblings of the summer wave aren’t far off. The TRoS Palpatine figure looks great. -

It’s crazy (well, not really) to think Red Hulk is the only reason the Brave New World set isn’t a standard £20-25 set that’s been a staple of this theme since 2012. The CMF Falcon is the only time Lego ever really got the character right, otherwise his brick-built wings have always been too bulky and the mould from the Crossbones Hazard Heist set was too plain. Shame they never reused the CMF mould as it would’ve gotten quite a bit of mileage with Avengers Tower, this BNW set, and the upcoming Civil War one. Incredibly frustrating that the Hall of Armour set lacks the quintessential suit Iron Man 3 focused most on. It would’ve been so nice to get the Mk42, but man they couldn’t even give Iron Patriot proper printing? I wish Lego would use these Hall of Armour expansions as a way to give us more unique Iron Man suits that wouldn’t have made sense in other sets, that would at least justify their recurring nature and price point. This theme, despite its clearly low budget, ironically tends to get quite ambitious with its absurd price points. -

Just an assumption on my part, although it’d make more sense to base it on TCW. Hopefully his newly moulded head isn’t just a slight update to the old one from over a decade ago. -

Ahsoka’s trip didn’t take too long whilst inside the mouth of a Purrgil (she arrived at Peridea around the time Sabine locates Ezra and the Noti start moving, and that’s with the delay of her being in the World Between Worlds, recuperating, communing with the Purrgil etc.), I guess we can surmise Ezra and Thrawn’s trip wouldn’t have taken that long either given that the Chimaera was being towed by the Purrgil too. I’d love a book from Timothy Zahn exploring this period. For those unhappy wjth the prospect of Enoch in the Night Trooper BP, I get that it does limit the troop builder aspect but I feel like this is the only way we’ll get him at this point. It would’ve been different if budget had been allocated this year for one larger location set with named characters and a smaller BP to accompany it the way they did with the Mandalorian Season 3 sets in June. Although personally, I’d have been happy with a larger ‘Raiders of Peridea’ set where we could’ve gotten some Night Troopers, Raiders, and perhaps a second attempt at Baylan Skoll with a recoloured Hawkeye hairpiece, shoulder armour etc. I highly doubt the ARC-170 and Plo’s JSF are the only RotS system sets next year, as much as TPM got minimal coverage in that area this year, RotS is simply more popular across the board. -

For the most part, the X-Mansion looks pretty sweet and I’ll definitely be picking this up as my gift card and Insiders points will shave a nice £105 off anyway. Some of the rooms do seem a little too cramped and Cerebro is laughable though. My critiques of the minifigures are the same as the rest of you so nothing more to add there, it just goes to show that shortcuts are always expected with a Lego Superheroes budget and there’s no point expecting any less. The Civil War set looks a bit too messy and incoherent to achieve the effect it was going for so definitely a pass for me, and the buildable logo definitely looks like a Marvel logo (which is pretty cool in terms of building techniques at least). The logo would’ve been much cooler if the minifigures were bursting out from the front of it on those clear stand pieces though. I really hope the Spider-Verse set is good and worth the wait. A location build is always welcome, but with this theme’s penchant for vehicles I’m surprised Prowler’s motorcycle from the first film was never made.
