It does seem odd with a need for new couplers. I hope there's a surprise for us hidden in them, such as a little electro magnet or coil inside which could uncouple cars by "reversing the polarity" (where is the Star Trek smilie when you need it?) Without power it will connect with a normal magnet coupler, but with power it decouples. Wishful thinking, just like with the wheels that transfer power to 9V and PF functions.

Mocpages user steals creations!
Lasse D replied to Stealth Hunter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
True, but the comments from the ones who want to "teach him" are not much better. I think there are better ways to contact the guy than writing such "reviews". Just a thought. -
A Model Team truck with Power Function *wub* You have some fine details with the way you have made the slopes inside the wheel wells and the M-motor should have plenty of power to move it around. I have seen another guy power a truck using PF (see youtube. There is a link to his BS-account as well), but this is only the third time I have seen PF in such an obvious application. It is blocky and old school as such a truck should be. I'm glad you aren't afraid of building it blocky. The only think I don't like so much is the placement of the receiver. If you disguised it, the functionality would come more as a surprise. Yellow and tan at the same time? Well. I guess it was "in" back then :-D

As a developer on other sides, I can speak for many when I say it's always nice to get positive feedback for your work. I suppose the people behind this site feel the same, so I will also say a big thank you. Some of my criticism might seem like coming from an old grumpy man, but this site is so well put together that the small issues I mention are bordering nit-picking for something near the ideal. In other words: Thank you *sweet*

Thanks for the review. And for giving me directions :-P I think the design of these two cars looks to be better than in the other set. The drivers are positioned lower compared to the windscreen and the design of the front on th red car is really nice. I'm missing details of motors and cars this big could use a working steering mechanism.

Review: 8158 Speed Racer - Speed Racer vs Snake Oiler
Lasse D replied to Tarfful's topic in LEGO Licensed
It is more an issue of lack of overview than laziness. Embarrassing. :-( Let's just pretend this never happened and continue in that other thread. 8-| -
We have a bridge now. Modern history on! I'm in a varying state of constant confusal. 8-

It has magnets to hold the crate: *y* M-Tron is superior because of those magnets. Berndasbroot taught us that *pirate* I like the small detailing beneath the cockpit to break the red. It gives a nice and balanced appearance. It is a good idea for a landing gear as well.

Good explanation: I'm getting too old :-P But shouldn't you be writing a review now? You have an impatient audience waiting for you :-D >:-) I'm looking forward to see the four together. (Hint X-D ) -
I'm currently working on a red truck with a lot of functionality, but I'm stuck at the decoration for the trailer: I simply don't have enough bricks nor a picture to put onto the sides of the trailer. I have made a new Mosaic program for the job, but I simply need a good picture to be drawn. :'-( It would look nice with a Coca Cola picture on the side, but I don't have a nice and clean picture to be used. Perhaps I should contact the company directly.

Thanks for resizing the pics. It is strange that you didn't know about that Z-piece before. It was well used in old space sets. The cars are pretty nice, but I think the people sit way too high in them - the windscreen gives almost no protection. I am planning on modifying them to 7 studs wide since that's my current standard for this kind of race cars (Seriously!). Looking forward to the next review. -
As promised, and with only a single day of delay is my review of the 2008 set: 4994 Creator Fierce Creatures. This small set is the same size and price range as last year's 4939 Cool Cars reviewed by prateek and dillthepill. The box General info You get 193 pieces (vs 206 for Cool Cars) which is quite a lot, but most of them are small. There are a lot of hinges and some good slopes and wings. The building instructions contains three models, but no further ideas for inspiration. Primary model: Spider The first model is a big spider which shares some similarities to the secondary model of 4895 Power in the design. The legs each have 3 joints, where the ones in the middle have "stud joints" to be moved sideways while the rest use hinges for all joints. There are 8 of them and it does get a little tedious with all the repetitive building in this relatively small model. I like the design of the face with a lot of eyes and a big and ugly mouth, but the real gem is the X-pattern on the opisthosoma made using double/inverted slopes. It is poseable and I think it looks more "fierce" when inverted. Secondary model: Snake The face of the snake is nicely detailed with a splitting tongue and a mouth than can move a little. There is a problem with the construction. It uses stacked hinges for some of the joints, which are hard to pull apart without stressing the pieces. Tertiary model: Fly I'm not completely sure what this insect is. I will say it's a fly, although the tail and head are too pointy. This is a neat little thing. Conclusion Primary model: 8 It is a good design, but lacks some sturdiness in the legs. They fall off a little too easily. Secondary models: 6 They are pretty good when you look at the bricks that are available, but they don't wow you in any way and they suffer from the same issues as the primary model regarding sturdiness. Alternate models: 3 It is hard to come up with alternate models with so many small pieces and plates that are only 1 stud wide. The colors might make you want to build a Spyrius space ship. Playability: 8 The models have many movable joints and you can put quite a scare into your minifigs when their town gets attacked by these creatures... unless some EN forces are there to protect them. Price: 6 Creator sets are known for their great price to bricks ratio, but this set doesn't quite measure up to sets like Cool Cars. Pieces: 7 The pieces aren't great by themselves, but who doesn't need a fist full of hinges, slopes and basic plates in standard colors? I don't think this is a must-have set like the big rig was last year. The pieces are great and it has a nice primary model, but the set lacks a bit when it comes to the usual strong Creator qualities like alternate models and price. (Brickshelf gallery)

Thanks for the review Dunamis. The price will dictate whether I will buy it or not. It does look like a "must have", but not if it lands on the wrong side of 800kr.

I'm a firm believer that model trains (LEGO, Märklin and others) should draw power from the rails, so I'm not thrilled with this direction. unless... LEGO makes it possible to purchase 9V tracks and makes this little brick available as well: Modified with a 9V+PF contact connected to the wheels. With such a brick (sold for much less than a 9V engine), we could use Power Function powered from a 9V power supply! Imagine trains with lights you could turn on/off, lights changing to the direction of the train and all the other advantages of 9V, but without the disadvantage of batteries! This can all be reality with this little modified train wheel. You get the best of both worlds for an insignificant premium. ... And we will never, ever see it.

Thanks for the good overview of this fantastic space theme. I have surprisingly many of these sets (all but the big ships and the smallest car), but my favorite set has to be the Mega Core Magnetizer - it has tons of playability. Space Police II was a good substitute, but it didn't have a magnetizer :'-)

Those shakers, magnets, ice cube trays and similar items is a potential threat! Someone might give me one of these things as a present instead of real sets LEGO "is for children" :-( ... Then I'll have to convince them that I'm a child.
-
The magnets in the trains... and the big star destroyer are not strong enough to be banned IIRC. No worries about those. If only there were laws to forbid all the other non-LEGO LEGO items like the salt and pepper shakers >:-)

Review: 8158 Speed Racer - Speed Racer vs Snake Oiler
Lasse D replied to Tarfful's topic in LEGO Licensed
I found all the April released Speed Racers sets in the shop in LEGOLAND. I was going to post a review Tuesday of this set, but I can see I'm too late. Now I cross my fingers for the Fierce Creatures set doesn't get "taken" as well. I would like to comment on the review, but the pictures are too big - it simply takes too long to load. Regarding that new resize function. I can see it does "nearest neighbor" rescaling. Doesn't it resize to less than 640x480? I thought that was the standard for forum post pictures. -
The vehicle confuses me *wacko* and I mean it in a good way *sweet* The color scheme is very nicely balanced as an M-Tron vehicle should be. This is actually quite hard since the red color is quite unforgiving. I have completed my Core Magnetizer (again) a few days ago and it is a good reference model for colors.

The more I read, the less I know... $50 because stuff is expensive in Denmark... especially LEGO.
-
Yeah, but I will still be at the event. I guess this is another question. I'm confused now.
-
I'll be there all the time.

The first word on my mind isn't "weird", it's "tasteless". The one with the child in the middle really strikes me as being written by someone with a... different taste of humor than me. And that comes from someone who enjoys watching lolcats.

I'll join the pack and say this is the best minifig sized, no, tumbler of any size, I have seen! I'm looking forwards to the lights so that we can get some more pics, especially with the interior. Whatever you gave for the bricks, it sure was worth it *y* Edit: Argh Hinckley! Don't move the topic while I'm writing a reply! :-( Meanie.

7048 - Troll Warship Picture Review!
Lasse D replied to Doctor Sinister's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Those pictures in the review have made this set look a lot more appealing in my opinion. It looks like a great set for both parts and playability, and the only thing I dislike is the strange flickr-launch thingie on the front.
