  1. Well, it says the golden minifigure will be in addition to the 16 from the series, so that's good news at least. It's a small blow to completionists which I have been for the most part. I was able to ignore the 9 olympic figures as I did not see them as part of the numbered sets of 16 that have been released. (Plus, I'm not really a fan of sports minifigs) I guess I can ignore the golden minifigure in the same way. With only 5000 of them, they shouldn't get in my way too much. Still, I am fearful of people potentionally opening more of the packets in the store while looking for these things.
  2. You should have a question asking if people like or dislike the idea of having a very rare minifigure as part of the CMF line.
  3. I wanted to start a poll/discussion thread specifically about the "golden minifigure" but aparently you need 500 posts to start a poll and even after a few years, I am nowhere near. I am not sure what most people will think of it so a poll written in a non-biased way would be very interesting and informative. In the end though, I know that how much money this generates will be the deciding factor, not the oppinions of a few from the forum visiting minority of the Lego market. Still, I think it would be whorthwhile to voice our oppinion as to whether we agree with this idea of an extremely rare golden minifig as part of the CMF line. If anyone with the authority to start a poll agrees with me, I would be interested in participating.
  4. Let me copy the comments I made on Brickset about this: "I know why they do it, but I do not agree with this kind of marketing that revolves around getting people to buy an excess amount of a product than they would have if they knew what they were buying. I was already disapointed in the blind packaging but there are ways around that. I know other companies do this kind of thing, but I was hoping Lego would not go this far. Of course people will most likely find a way to identify these and the vast majority of them will wind up in the hands of resellers, who pick through boxes early in the morning, while the child collectors will wind up getting their parents to buy them 20 extra repeats of a figure they do not care about in the hope of getting this golden figure. As long as the golden figure is just a recolored version of one of the 16, I can just ignore it. If it counts as one of the 16, I can ignore collectable minifigures completely." "Let me also point out that the golden minifigure scheme will also be likely to increase the amount of people opening packages in the store, and in turn cause store owners to become more strict about allowing people to freely have access to the figures. Imagine how happy the people at Lego marketing would be if you had to go to the front desk at your local toy store and tell them how many minifigures you wanted to buy so they can randomly give them to you." I think this is kind of a corrupt way to increase sales (that many other companies do as well) and I kind of hope it fails and they do not see increased earnings based on this method of marketing.
  5. They have them at Fred Meyers in Hillsboro OR. (near Portland) on Cornelius Pass Rd. I still have not checked out the other 5 or 6 locations that are nearby but some of them may have them as well. Might be a little too far from Seattle for a casual drive.
  6. Wow, your Lego store has them arranged so nicely. I would feel bad going through them all and messing up their display. My store just dumps them in the bin. I even got to dump a box in myself when I asked them to bring a fresh box out for me to go through, Very helpful employees at the Lego store. I did find a chicken guy for one of the employees as a thank you.
  7. 1st find the dress piece then find the rubbery hair.
  8. Right across the border in Oregon, I did not see them at TRU when I was there the other day. I have not checked Fred Meyer though. This is the first time I have seen the Lego store be the first to carry them in the NW US. I would expect them to start showing up elsewhere soon.
  9. Series 9 is available from Lego shop at home: USA UK Canada
  10. It says "Previous series included an eclectic mix of characters from the world of sport, TV and film characters, musicians and street workers as well as people from the emergency services." They are not saying that any previous minifigs will be included in series 11.
  11. My wife and I just picked up 32 (16 per customer limit) series 9 minifigures at the Lego store at Washington Sq. mall in the Portland, OR area. It seems that the Lego stores across the US are getting these first in the US this time.
  12. The 1st post has been updated with USA sigtings via brickset.
  13. It sounds like these are showing up at multiple locations in the UK, via Brickset.
  14. The Fred Meyers by me carry multiple series. There is one location which just got a bunch of new boxes of series 7 and they still have series 8. I fully expect to see series 9 at Fred Meyers before the end of the year regardless of series 8 or 7 stock. It's just like any other lego brand. I see new Star Wars and LOTR sets right next to the older ones.
  15. Yeah, Fred Meyers, here in the northwest, has been great for CMF collectors. I make a point of finding any excuse to shop there during minifig release season so I can keep checking. The problem is that I am surrounded by 5 of these stores in my area and they don't always have the same stock so I drive my wife crazy with multi store Fred Meyer trips. I was hoping to limit discussion in this thread but then the thread might be forgotten on the 2nd or 3rd page. If it is out of sight then it will probably be out of mind so people might not think to update us on their sightings. I will try to keep the first post updated.
  16. Please post your collectable minifigure sightings. Series 11 starts on page 10.
  17. Sorry, I didn't really think it was that far off topic. It is natural for talk of series 8 to mix with discussion of future series as series 8 is a future series. If any discussion took off in the other thread that was mentioned, I'm sure series 8 would come up and then that would be in the wrong topic as well. Unmonitored forums can become a mess, but sometimes I feel like EB forums are so strictly enforced that good conversations can be stifled. I guess I will revert to lurker status.
  18. I keep seeing people make this point. ^ LEGO is meeting the demand now as opposed to CMF series 1 and 2 when supply was too short and they were nearly impossible to find in stores. There is supposed to be enough supply so that the product is available on the store shelves. That way, there is enough to outlast the rabid fans who buy them up like crazy allowing the casual consumer to happen accross them in the store and make an impulse buy, possibly creating even more fans in the process. It's not good for LEGO if the shelves are empty and they are missing possible sales. I think they were caught off guard by the success of the first 2 series and have since increased production. Like I said before, I always see Star Wars sets on the shelves but no one questions their popularity. I even got the very popular sand crawler on a clearance price but I doubt the set was considered a failure in any way.
  19. I was kidding. I have no idea what's coming next, other than what is obvious, and I've seen no evidence that anyone else does either. There's no evidence of more series past 8 as far as I know but there is also no evidence that it will stop anytime soon. LEGO can always do something new. They do not have to stop the CMF line in order to do so. If you are bored after 10 series, just don't buy them anymore. A lot of people including myself would love for these to continue for a long time. We have a lot of very specific minifigs that may have never been made if not for the CMF line and I can think of countless more that I would like to see. The CMF line and the modular buildings are my two favorate things LEGO has ever done... well other than the invention of LEGO in the first place. The first two series had smaller production runs. Products are supposed to be available in the stores. I always see Star Wars sets in the stores but no would would question their popularity. LEGO is just meeting the demand now so they are not sold out and nearly impossible to find anymore.
  20. My brother has a friend who saw a picture of someone who had a dog that belonged to a person who used to be a roommate of a former Lego employee so I know what the next 14 series are going to be. Series 8 is going to have sports figures as was said earlier. Also there will be historical figures. Some will be male and some will be female. There will be 16 of them total in blind packaging and they will come in boxes of 60. Each figure will come with it's own stand and a foldout displaying the entire collection. Please keep this information between us here on the EB forums. I don't want anybody getting in trouble for this.
  21. They are still pretty affordable on Bricklink. If you don't know about bricklink yet, google it. It is my favorate resource as a Lego collector.
  22. I never think of discussing LEGO as productive, I think it's just fun to talk to people about a shared hobby. We were discussing future colors. Yes it's a bit off topic but for those of us who care about the color it's fun to speculate. Perhaps we need a whole new topic to speculate on future, unannounced CMF releases... unless there is one already.
  23. The colors they choose seem to correspond to colors currently used in production of actual LEGO parts. Azure had just come out so they just couldn't wait to use it for series 5, even though another shade of blue had already been used in series 2. For hints as to future colors of the CMF line, I would look to the LEGO bricks themselves.
  24. I almost got a whole box of 60 for $2.99 but then my conscience kicked in. I brought the whole box to the register and the teller scanned the box. It came up as $2.99 and she was ready to check me out. I just couldn't do it though.
  25. Oh well, I will look forward to hearing or seeing something official.
