  1. Last year I tried being a day ahead myself so I could get the models up reasonably close to the correct day for everyone, but the existence of an extra day to work with led to my being lazy and that extra day disappeared somewhere around Days 4-5.
  2. In my time zone, I'm on schedule. Got the last one up eleven minutes before the end of the day.
  3. "Same basic plan as last Round. I've got the Hungry Bear. Master Rone, attack Aepyornis A; Master Emorith, try again to heal Master Unth'or. Master Unth'or, start attacking the Blinded Aepyornis B; I don't want you Stunned by a Volt Ant and your Health is too low to attack the other Aepyornis." I attack the Hungry Bear from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow. Order of Actions: Bartholomew Docken Dyric Rone Althior Emorith Xander Unth'or OoC: Sandy, how does Berserk work? Does it deal an extra Free Hit to me, does it direct all Damage to me, or does it just deal the Damage at the end of the Round when Poison is calculated?
  4. Factions would make sense, that topic being named "The Embassy". Locations could fit in, but I think important locations would already be mentioned in the entries on races and factions, and most would be on the maps in the Library. Come to think of it, the Library itself functions as a sort of question and answer topic regarding lore, so I don't think we don't need any new topics for summaries or extra info. If a player wants to know more, they could always ask in the Library, and Sandy can have Byblos give them the appropriate answers. (maybe QMs could PM Sandy answers to questions about their races, factions, quests, etc.?)
  5. Set your course for Day Nine. General Veers, prepare your Midi-scale Imperial Officers. I don't think there were any cold assault Imperial officers in the Hoth diorama of Miniland at LEGOLAND, so I took a look at a picture of the officers on the landing platform in the Endor section. That was a good starting point, but I ended up redoing the whole figure. I made his legs a little longer and more distinct from his torso and, of course, worked in the body armor. The helmet's not perfect, but it was the best solution of the ones I tried. Overall, this is the first time in a while (probably since last year's Miniland-scale Nute Gunray, Day 2) that I've been satisfied with a Miniland-scale figure that I essentially built myself from scratch, and I'm happy with the model. I chose to make this figure with just the chinstrap and no goggles, but if you want those, you can add a couple tan headlight bricks in place of the 1x2 brick in the face and place some transparent tiles on those. 2012StarWarsAdvent_Day9.lxf
  6. Not at all, in my opinion. Roleplaying's not my thing, but I do like extensive backstories and explanations like what you're talking about.
  7. I agree. QMs should only be adding to the Embassy the races which they've created and introduced and which are unique and are not prominent races in other works. Everything else should be Sandy's to write backstories and information for. (the Embassy's just going to catalog races and not factions, right?)
  8. DD explained it on flickr.
  9. An Evaluation and Statistical Analysis of Non-player Character Antagonists with Consideration for the Enjoyment of Forum-based Role-playing Games.
  10. OoC: I adjusted the Order to allow K-nut a chance to heal posades in case he rolls Damage. Order is now Docken, Emorith, Rone, Unth'or. (Althior before Dyric because Althior has the Defense to take no Damage from the second set of Free Hits)
  11. Because I didn't think of it and I love my Dread Hat too much.
  12. "Excellent. Okay, Master Rone, keep at Aepyornis A. I'll try to Blind that Hungry Bear again, and Master Unth'or can attack the White Rabbit again while Master Emorith heals him." I attack the Hungry Bear from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow. Order of Actions: Bartholomew Docken Althior Emorith Dyric Rone Xander Unth'or OoC: Free Hits would be: Aepyornis A + Volt Ant A = ((19+0)/2)-15=0 Damage Aepyornis B + Volt Ant B = ((0+7)/2)-4=0 Damage Aepyornis B = 0 Damage Hungry Bear = 0 Damage
  13. Like Flipz said, it'd have to replace the Dread Hat, which I don't want to do before battles and which I don't want to take a turn to do during a battle if there are no enemies affected by the Dread Hat.
  14. Day Eight, straight ahead. It's the one crawling with Midi-scale Vulture Droids. I apologize for the late post (in fact it's no longer Day Eight where I live); I was away from my computer for longer than I thought I would be. This model reminds me of last year's A-wing in that it's a starfighter and it's shapes are extremely hard to simplify into something I can work with, but it's small enough that even at this increased scale, there just aren't that many options. At this size, I decided to basically use reference pictures as a starting point and build using whatever shapes looked right to me and seemed to capture the feel of the ship rather than try to get things perfectly accurate. In the end, I'm happy with the result. One note: the curved slope for the 'head' in dark brown is in a 2013 set, but BL does have the inventory up so I'm all but certain it exists or will exist. It's the only shade of brown that piece is available in, but I decided to use it because it was the best shape for the job. (and I think the different shade of brown helps break up the monotonous color scheme of the model) 2012StarWarsAdvent_Day8.lxf
  15. I thought Guardian Angel did come into effect in the Round in which it was rolled. Other effects do. But regarding Warden, the placement depends on the stats of the combatants. An early Aura from a healthy Warden can save the rest of the party from taking Damage and still result in the Aura fading with the Warden at full HP.
  16. OoC: Oh, okay. Thanks for the warning.I switch to Aepyornis B from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow.
  17. Results of Round Three of Skrall vs. Thothwick: Skrall vs. Thothwick - Critical Hit ((20*2)-10=30 Damage) Thothwick vs. Skrall - Hide (Thothwick is hidden) Drawing your greatsword, Skrall, you lunge forwards, striking Thothwick with enough force that the Black Knight is thrown backwards against the wall and lies still. Skrall is victorious! Both combatants do not gain XP and have their Health and Ether fully restored. Consumed items are not replaced, so update your signatures accordingly. Combatants: Skrall (Waterbrick Down) 79 year old Male Ogre Hunter Level 22 *Favors Humanoid and Mechanical Enemies* *Immune to Slowed and Bound* Power: 42 (22+20) Defense: 0 Health: 36/36 (6+20+6+3) Ether: 0/0 Gold: 174 Equipment: Leojagd (WP:20; Greatsword; User is Slowed), Hunter's Quiver (Bows and Crossbows +2 WP; allows Hunters to favor two types of enemies), Winged Sandles (Immunity to Slowed and Bound effects), Lucky Doubloon (Grants "Special Guard") Inventory: Heavy Crossbow (WP:8; Knockback), Hunter's Crossbow (WP:11; +4 vs. Beasts), Smoke Bomb, Zoot's Plaything, Mead, Grand Potion Thothwick (Professor Flitwick) 44 year old Metasimian Black Knight Level 20 *Damages Undead* *Immune to Stunned and Darkness* Power: 30 (28 Ranged) (20+10/8) Defense: 10 Health: 35/35 (7+19+9) Gold: 200 Equipment: Sabre (WP: 10), Skull Shield (SP: 6; immune to Darkness-elemental damage; suitable to Black Knights only), Black Knight's Armour (SP: 4, protects from Stunned-effect), Cultist's Hat (regular attacks do Damage to Undead) Inventory: Shuriken (WP: 8) Bedroll, Telescope
  18. Oops, I thought you hadn't posted yet. I'll run it now.
  19. "Master Emorith, heal Master Unth'or; Master Unth'or, take White Rabbit B; Master Rone, you and I shall attack Aepyornis A." I attack Aepyornis A from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow. Order of Actions: Bartholomew Docken Xander Unth'or Dyric Rone Althior Emorith OoC: The Hungry Bear should be Blinded for only two more Rounds.
  20. No, I knew what you were saying. The problem is that the 'real' battle droid has a neck that leans backwards, and at the same time, I couldn't think of another legal connection that would allow me to attack the head to the shoulders while allowing the head to tilt forwards. Without the cheese slope there, the shoulders transition to the neck too abruptly and the neck looks like it's coming out up from the back instead of leaning back from the shoulders. We have a plan which should immobilize the Droid Army. We will send Day Seven to knock out the Droid control ship which is orbiting the planet. If Midi-scale N-1 Starfighter can get past their rayshields, we can sever communications and their droids will be helpless. I started out really fast on this one, but it got tougher than it looked. I'd built a minifig-scale N-1 before in LDD, so I had an idea of where to start, but I ran into difficulty with the engines and the size as a whole. I couldn't make the cones of the engines 1-wide, or this would turn out closer to mini-scale. But the main portion of the engine needed to be thicker than the cones. If the cones were 2-wide, the main part couldn't be 3-wide, because then it'd look closer to minifig scale. (for comparison, the official N-1 set from '99 used 3-wide engines) I settled with what I've got above, the same technique I used for the Y-wing in last year's advent calendar remake. It worked well there, but the Y-wing is obviously more angular and greebled than the N-1. I'm still not satisfied with the overall blockiness of this model, but I think it captures the feel of the craft with simplified shapes, a compromise often unavoidable in this scale. Reference material is here. 2012StarWarsAdvent_Day7.lxf
  21. No, you don't have to make a WIP topic. What the rule means is that until the deadline for entry passes, all the entries are considered WIPs (whether they are are posted as WIPs or not), so you can make changes to your entry until the deadline has passed.
  22. No. The subject of the contest is to build something that you think will happen in the new movies, which are new, original stories. You are supposed to use your imagination to come up with something similarly new and original that you think will be in the new movies.
  23. You can, but remember that you're creating something that you think will happen in the new movie(s), so the in-universe story that your MOC is telling shouldn't be from an existing canon publication. I'm sure that there will be more entries in the large category, so if you're making a small entry, you have a choice: you can either go up against the big MOCs for a chance at the big prize, or you can enter the smaller category for what will probably be a better chance of winning (or at least a level playing field in terms of size of entries), but for a smaller prize. The goal here was to give the builders who don't have a lot of bricks/like to build small a better chance to win, but at the same time not limit the builders who like to go big. If you're building a smaller entry, we wanted to give you an alternative if you prefer to compete against MOCs of the same size.
  24. OoC: Okay, got it. It served its purpose, anyways; Legonater isn't Knocked Out.
  25. And then buy more SP!
