  1. AFAIK, Brazil also has no official Lego shop, no S@H, no VIP, and all Legos sold there are very expensive because of this and because our government taxes too much consumer products and specially imports. If you take a look at the countries where Lego has a bigger presence you will see that Lego does not like 3rd World countries which kind of makes sense because Lego is an expensive plastic toy and they would probably no sell as much as Lego would like in these countries, although I don't understand why not have a Lego presence in Sao Paulo city, for instance, that is a huge and full of wealthy people metropolis. Anyway, not having Lego in easy reach in Brazil could be seen as a blessing actually. See my situation: our first Lego ever was bought in 2004. Why? Because we moved to the US around this time so we actually bought it here, in the US, where prices are "good". While I was raised and lived my first many decades in Brazil, I never had a Lego and I didn't miss it, we had lots of non-Lego nice toys in the 70's and 80's to play with. Now I am an AFOL living in the US, the consumer's paradise land.
  2. I just disagree with it. The set, as being part of a series, must be available to all or to none. It is not about NOT being able to obtain it, it is about the FAIR price you are going to pay for it. Why should someone pay 300 bucks for something that should be worth 40? What is Lego creating? Picassos? Lego wants to create something that costs them 20 or less bucks to manufacture and that by giving it some evil exclusivity it will immediately become a 300 dollar set? Evil, evil, evil. Lego doesn't need to do squat, collecting is human nature for many and completism is part of collecting for many of these. An ugly set, just ugly. I can't see anything special in it except for the fact that it will be available exclusively in their home town.
  3. Every time you would mention the "blank vertical stripes" I would also be in the dark.. Now no more.
  4. This is an unfair statement in the meaning that it is not necessary to tell adults to "collect them all" since it is kind of intrinsic, natural. If you collect something it means you like it a lot and if you like it a lot and you _are_ a collector then it is kind of natural to want to be a "completist". Lego does not need to advertise this to adults like it does to children because that would be,well, childish on their part, after all, they are dealing with adults. If an adult collector is collecting something that s/he likes too much, if s/he does not have a complete collection of this something is most certainly because of money constraints. I wanted to have all 23 30"x40" original James Bond British Quad movie posters but just the first one - Dr. No - costs 25k or more so it is not possible for me to be a completist. I wanted to have all Modular Buildings but with the first 3 costing around 3k or more, it is not possible. If I had tons of money I would just buy all of them, modular buildings, JB BR Quads and period. What Lego is doing to the Architecture sets collectors out there is just as much unfair, upsetting and would bring me anger if I was one of them. That is why I say to myself that this "move" by Lego is just evil! That is the word I like.
  5. I have just assembled my 1st Lego Architecture set! Actually, my 1st set since all the sets assembled until now were by my daughter - she loves assembling Legos. This one, the Pisa Tower, I told her: "This is daddy's exclusive!" . Since I have visited Pisa like two decades ago and since I have Italian citizenship, this set has meaning for me, that is why I bought it. As for this limited 21021 set, as I wrote before, even if I was a completist, I would not care about it. I would just say: "go to h*** Lego with your suspicious decision, I am not falling for this one..." and I would sleep sound and well. It is just PLASTIC!
  6. Nah, they are just jealous... Thanks and Happy New Year to you too, OTW, may Lego bring you enjoyment for many years to come.
  7. US$219 for 600 small pieces? Holy Moley! Hopefully it will prove to be a good investment.
  8. 8 BL orders placed on the 21st. 6 have already arrived. One has not arrived certainly because it is the only one not from the USA. The last one, the one that took 3 days to invoice, has not been shipped yet... Blame on the Holidays!
  9. @CopMike: Whoa, so that is a threat? My English sucks, I never realized I was threatening TLC.
  10. I don't remember reading here about anyone "threatening" not to buy any more Lego because of this one so-so limited release set.
  11. Found a bigger one, using your small one... http://toysnbricks.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/LEGO.com-Architecture-Microsite-2012-Vote-Toysnbricks.jpg
  12. Why do you want to spoil my conspiracy theory? You are mean! I like thinking that Lego is an evil company, that makes me less likely to buy their expensive toys that drains my wallet.
  13. Note that you said "were", not "are being"...Isn't this set still a non-retired set? And for how long, how many? They needed a way to make it not look what it really is so they offered a few of them for a few days in a few locations... Conspiracy theory it is!
  14. Whoa! Winner over all of those masterpieces, a hotel? That just made my conspiracy theory (CT) even better because this "contest" was fixed from the beginning, just a sham to explain their "choice". Not to mention the weird decision to make a limited release out of a worldwide contest... I bought the Farnsworth House from ebay just because the price was too good to pass, shipping included (and I like the set too). I was kind of worried that it would be a scam but it was not. The set arrived in a rather good condition.
  15. You know what, I have a new theory. This is a hotel, right? So, what if they PAID a huge amount of money to Lego to develop a set for them? That would explain the very limited release because the hotel demanded that it would be only available in its country. Now someone from the hotel has all 10000 sets and they can sell them for a very high price and recover whatever they paid to Lego and still have the advertisement that they were looking for. I like conspiracy theories...
  16. A normal person is not going to have the connection that you have but you don't need that to download a pdf file or watch some fancy electronic manual. I don't think people with an internet connection as bad as one that would not allow such things, or people with no internet at all, would be spending their money in Lego toys.
  17. How is it possible someone that collects Lego, an expensive toy, not have a good enough internet connection?
  18. Use trans-green instead...
  19. I live in the Washington DC Metro area so there are plenty of options around but since prices for Lego products seem to be, how can I say, "enforced", it doesn't matter much where you buy them so I buy almost always from the official Lego shop online, if it is a current set, to get the 5% off (VIP rewards). Amazon sometimes runs some nice promotions.
  20. I got myself some official sets but the one that is making me happier is the Ole Kirk's House, not the original one that would have cost me pots of money but one that I have Bricklink'ed for one third of that money, with some very minor mods, just enough that allowed me to change some of its original red to some other better color. I am waiting for the BL orders to arrive and then there will be fun!
  21. I believe in the theory that Lego does this just to increase piece number and/or because most probably it is cheaper to produce 2 1x4's then 1 1x8. Why? Because "money talks", it is all about the money. They want the set to cost them less and they want the set to impress us more. In some situations, like the Robbie House, the size of the pieces _is_ part of the design, but I don't think it is for the Orthanc Tower.
  22. I would review the set as a ZERO due to its "limited" release. Any set with a "limited" release deserves zero points in my opinion. I will not try to buy it at its Singaporean retail price, I will not pay the probably ridiculous prices when it reaches the after-market, I will not feed this circle of non-sense from Lego with its "limited" releases. If you can't release it globally, just don't release at all.
  23. "Do not take the above post seriously". :classic:
  24. Thanks! I wanted dark orange but it is impossible so I settled with reddish brown, yet a "conversion" was necessary also due to a non-existent part. Also, if it was possible, I would like the roof all in dark red but ... no parts... Dunno why Lego is so darn cheap when producing its bricks, mostly the same old bright unreal colors. Sorry, I try my best to find the right place but this is confusing. Thanks for moving.
  25. I usually don't mind waiting, I am patient, but I get worried if I think something is wrong with the order. It took me hours to select the sellers, which parts go with which sellers because I wanted to order all the parts in one go. If it's only a matter of waiting more than expected, then it is ok, as long as I am kept informed. Orders from PAB, for instance, take up to 17 days to arrive (after shipped). And order from France took 7. Another from Switzerland hasn't yet arrived with 11 days already past. Now I try to use mostly USA sellers: 7 out of the 8 I used for this project are from USA (and it may happen that the parts from the one European seller arrive sooner than the parts from the last USA seller...).
