  1. Woah. This is pure insanity. The video incredibly shows off the engineering necessary to pull this off!
  2. I'm having flashbacks to the lamentations regarding AC Earth Defense HQ...
  3. Also simply known as a scorpion

Mocpages isn't loading for me, either, right now.
  5. Holy crap, you're right! The sets look almost like direct copies of all the most possibly stereotypical Friends sets - but basically all pink with maybe a little bit of light blue thrown in! It will be interesting to see if they receive the same attacks. EDIT: Oh, but the figures have special stands because they can't stand up on their own, apparently. What is it with girl's toys not being able to stand up?
  6. My second render: "Oni" Class Defender Render by vynsane, on Flickr This one took half as long, because I followed the advice here about up-converting the pixel dimensions and not using anti-aliasing. It still took 7hrs 15mins or so. I also used two lights - one left, 70% w/shadow, and one top 40% w/o shadow, per bbbqq's post. It ended up a bit dark and I turned the brightness up in Photoshop afterward. I think I could have brightened it some more, frankly.
  7. My first render! DbM Swoosher (Rendered) by vynsane, on Flickr There's an odd artifact on the rear stud on the 2x2 'engine' on top of the tailfin. Other than that, it looks great!
  8. Flickr user Shamisenfred, one of the designers responsible for some of the Galaxy Squad sets - namely these 2013 MOCs 1 by Shamisenfred, on Flickr Has revealed the significance behind the different colors used for the various teams (in the comments of that pic): "The good guys have different coulours as they have different skills (green team: defence, red: speed, orange: fire power, blue: strategy)."
  9. HA, wow, interesting. I wonder why it still works when moving from one to the other. Perhaps the program only looks at the <Bricks cameraRef> entry as well?
  10. I've placed both versions in a new folder on my Dropbox. I have to say, without even looking into the files, there's a slight difference in the file size! the Mac version is 18.2kb and the Win7 version is 16.75kb. Not a HUGE difference, but odd since it's supposedly a cross-platform format...
  11. I tried that - I made a change to the file (removing and replacing the canopy) on the Mac and moved the file to the Win7 VM and it didn't work. It wasn't until I made the exact same change to the file within the VM that I got the render to start. That said, when I opened LDD on the VM it asked to update from 4.2 to 4.3.5 - perhaps it was the update that made the difference? Your 'Requirements' page says it supports 4.1.7 and up, though...
  12. I got this same error during my commute this evening. I was using the converter and POVRay on a Windows 7 virtual machine, running on my Mac host. I tried first importing through a shared folder, and got the error. Then I moved the file to the VM to see if it was something about the folder sharing, but no joy again. Now that I'm home and had some spare time, I tried again - this time, I opened the file in the VM first, moved a brick, moved it back and re-saved the file. Now the render's running. So it's not just the LXF file that holds camera position data, it must be somewhere in the LDD program files as well.
  13. Glad to get your blessing. Now maybe I'll finally actually produce a render ;-)
  14. hrontos - I've started a Flickr group devoted to LDD to POVRay Converter renders. I took the liberty of using the logo from your site for the group icon. Please let me know if you are unhappy about this and I will remove it. You may want to link to the group from your site for further hands-free promotion (instead of adding them to your gallery page manually).
  15. Since TLG will have the final say in what it's called if it is approved to go to product, I don't think it's even the final name - it's possible it's just a Captain Ersatz placeholder to get around the legal snag. The idea that became "LEGO Minecraft Micro World" was simply called "LEGO Minecraft". "Hayabusa" was originally called "asteroid exploration spacecraft HAYABUSA", and "Shinkai 6500" was submitted as "Expedition set Shinkai". All three of the ideas that have gone to product were renamed, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that "Space Troopers" will, as well.
  16. The first post here is over a year old, which is around when the project was first added to CUUSOO, IIRC. I highly doubt they only stumbled upon it this past week, coincidentally when it hit 10k and moved on to the review stage.
  17. They may have registered Space Marine as a trademark, but they didn't invent them, so they do not have a patent. Anyway, I'm not saying that they shouldn't have their trademark upheld, I'm just incensed at the fact that they waited until the idea entered the review stage to make their move. If they were so concerned, they should have done so from the start, and the idea would have had time to figure out the next move. Now it's a scramble, I'm sure, to come up with an alternative name.
  18. It's more a brief overview than a review and the pics would be even better if they were actually in focus.
  19. Star Marines - problem solved. (I'm sure that's already under consideration). Screw GW. How dare they take action now, after all this time.
  20. Jeez, this is awesome! I watched the movie again today because of Pepa Quin's Phloston Paradise MOC, but this is fantastic, too! You mean like this one? Mr. Kim's Flying restaurant boat by Nieks G., on Flickr
  21. There is no work-around that I know of - it's just a former feature that's been disabled in the OS for whatever reason. Seems par for the course with Apple, unfortunately. I had an externally housed video card that allowed me to hook up four monitors to my 2nd-gen MacBook Pro. When I upgraded to a unibody MBP, it no longer worked because they disabled video output through the expresscard slot for whatever reason. Finally! I can't do this thing that I used to do! Progress? That said, there's nothing disabling the program itself, it's just disabled adding outlines around bricks. It's off-putting, I'll admit, because I've gotten used to seeing them, but the program still works as it did before.
  22. I don't see why anyone would vote 'no' to the first question - or the second, frankly. I think any advance info we get is exciting to fans, and could only serve to build anticipation for the release of the related product - a win-win scenario. I commend TLG for taking the time to engage the community in this way. I take umbrage with the notion that these teaser images aren't supposed to have any "redeeming artistic value" - I think the points made about how tongue-in-cheek the images are (the grainy quality, the instagram style, etc) prove that there was a cohesive artistic intent behind the series of images, more-so than in any set-up promotional shots. They actually heavily reminded me of cjdc's minifigure pics, which I've throughly enjoyed, and I instantly wondered if they were inspirational of the teasers at least in part.
  23. OH YUSSS!!! The teaser you posted a while back had whetted my appetite. This doesn't disappoint! "It is now 7pm, time for the news. See you tomorrow for a new adventure... That's the best show I ever did..."
  24. Ha, I know - but really, your opinion is only based on the description from the LEGO website. If there were no website, you would be free to make up your mind about where it belongs. That being the case, wouldn't you lump Battle Mech in with the rest of the robots in Galaxy Squad? I seem to remember reading something about the cocoons being transformation pods or something, but can't find where. I may have made it up...
  25. Yes, LEGO did not intend for you to mix your collectible minifigures with the rest of your LEGO sets, and you must not ignore the made-up backstories or anything. We all know that LEGO hates it when you mix your LEGO pieces together. I heard that if you even THINK about putting the CMFs9 Battle Mech minifig near the Galaxy Squad minifigs, the universe will explode.
