How tall are Pirate mini-figures wearing bandanas
Col. Whipstick replied to Admiral Bejaune's topic in LEGO Pirates
It's in your hand, you're just waving it about convinced it's a cutlass. It's sad how the age makes you a bit senial and you're reliving the good ol' days when you used to go hacking through the jungles of the Yacatan in gold lust. :-P -
Well if it's any consolation all your old buddies are at the bottom of the English Channel courtesy of a certain mister Drake now whereas you escaped that fate and now you're up to your helmet in bbq's, beer and bikini clad beaches so it would seem you did make the right choice. X-D

Yes that's exactly the information but what about measurements on the ships?
-
Okay folks, as I'm newly promoted and now able to create polls I thought I'd put this one out there as what particularly impressed me about Lego Pirates when it came out was Lego's attention to creating new animals to enrich the new theme. Hairy Ruben will of course vote for sharks but I wanted to see what everyone else thought was their favourite.

The minifig with the bandana on is a neat 44 mm in height or 1 and 6/8's of an inch... Sorry I'm not an imperial measurement guy but that's what I got. -
LEGO Doctor Who minifigs by Mr Spielbrick
Col. Whipstick replied to Mr Spielbrick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It would be unfair for me to comment because I don't really like Dr. Who and have hardly seen the newer or for that matter any of the episodes so I can't compare the likeness of the minifigs to the characters. -
I'll have to watch the film yet again perhaps... It does sound a bit daft that those are there.
-
What on toffee hill is that?
-
Very cool... I have to be honest though, the camera flash is killing the scene. Can you get different pictures of the models taken? The one featuring the ships' propellor looks particularly good.
-
I naturally assume we are talking about the American War of Independence and the American Civil War... Civil and revolutionary is otherwise a little vague. It would be nice to see but it wouldn't happen for a few very good reasons. A - it's too close to the Pirates and Western themes which can be very easily modified with the parts available to reflect those wars. B - It's too political and as Lego have avoided making any national-identifiable sets then they won't start now. The Imperials in pirates were just that - imperials, not French, Spanish or British etc. The Nazi's and Soviets in the Indy stuff don't really seem to be particularly German or Soviet in identification although we know that's exactly what they are.
-
Villagers would be a plus. There's no point in going all Tolkien when the traditional castle hasn't been done right, like pirates there's a lack of 'civilians' and in particular women. Villagers would really finalise castle nicely, we always need some peasants to kick around. :-D

Cool bananas and funky mangoes. Good to see the smaller themes getting the attention they deserve.
-
Jolly useful thread as I've never had much to do with the Western stuff and it's nice to be able to see it all in one place.
-
Looks interesting Mr. Tiber... Where is your Inn to be found? That way we could suggest particular ideas in terms of decor for it's place and time.
-
So the castle is an actual vintage model from Lego... I don't recognise it it must be that old. Is there a year that was brought out, looks early 80's.
-
This is really interesting, a couple days ago we got a suped-up version of the Clipper and now a suped-up version of the Imperial Armada ship. It's a pity about the photo quality, do you have access to a better camera. It looks a great ship and I especially like seeing white hulls over the normal brown. Remember to list the details of Le Faucigny in the thread on MOC ship table of comparison.

[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Col. Whipstick replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
That took me some time to read through DreamWeb but it was well worth it! I liked the clarity of your shots and scenery. Obviously a little limited because at this stage the men are only onboard The Valour. But once again the photos were clear and the text was nice and bold and it's nice to see people make the effort with spelling and grammar especially considering all the trouble they go to with the artwork. I thought the cabin was a very nice touch, the ink well and the feather and the use of Merlin's scroll as a ship's diary was brilliant. I look forward to seeing the next installment but I certainly don't want you to rush it. This was good work. *y* -
They don't print straight from MSPaint after all that measuring? :-/ Phessy has offered to run them through Illustrator when he gets a chance, would love to see the maps and the flags nice and smooth when printed out and stuck down onto hard plastic.
-
The impression of the cliffs is pretty cool rather than the land being flush to the beach the way it is so often presented in lego MOC's.
-
I give you 50 dalari for your camel effendi! :-D That fez looks cool Mr. Tiber. What about a shako with the peak and the plume filed off, painted red and with the string fitted to a small drilled hole inside. Yeah I know it sounds like a lot of work and it would mean wasting a shako but perhaps it was an imitational one no one would miss it. :-P

Wolf people... probably because I have all their sets. Admittedly they aren't as destinctive as most the others but I thought the hoods were real cool at the time.

Photo Review: Temple of Mount Everest 7417
Col. Whipstick replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
My ex bought this... got her hooked onto lego. It's a great set with loads of character, what I found really cool about the Oriental Expedition series including this set was the board game lego were adding to the sets. This also highlighted the use of minifigs as board pieces which they are perfect for in size. -
I doubt you're alone but one has to start from somewhere... Axle made a ship the other week out of very basic pieces. In some ways it's refreshing to see heightened creativity in the absence of the right materials. The Golden Falcon is a fine ship to be sure though...
-
The total height Axle, so right to the top of the mast. Post both sets of measurements but don't forget to provide details regarding name, captain, nationality, purpose, ship type etc... Oh, and does your cabin feature a minibar? X-D
-
Remember... even a lowly British sergeant doesn't have to take lip from a French emperor... X-D I would say all ships regardless of size are welcome so long as they are MOC's so yes, the ones built for the IMTP contest qualify for me. In the end of the day not everyone has access to all the parts and pieces they'd like and I wouldn't want to disqualify their creativity purely on that basis.
