I spent a lot of hours of work during the last day, to export a Ldraw .dat file to IGES file format. Here's my result, maybe someone has suggestions for improvements or it helps someone else in the future: Conversion from Dat to IGS - Ldraw DAT to Wavefront OBJ using 3DWin5 - OBJ to STL using ivcon (with scale factor 0.04) - STL to STLB using ivcon - STLB to IGS using stl2igs1.exe (Reuben Reyes) OBJ, STL, STLB controlled via Blender IGS controlled via gCad3d LDRAW files viewed with LDView3 Questions: ? ivcon ... expandable to iges (getting rid of stl2igs1) ? ldraw2xxx ... command line tool to convert dat to ivcon readable format ivcon: http://orion.math.iastate.edu/burkardt/g_s...vcon/ivcon.html I added an paramter for LDU scaling for STLA files (0.04) LDRAW, LDView, 3DWin : as proposed on the LDRAW home page. stl2igs1.exe: http://home.austin.rr.com/reubenrachel/reu...DOS/

Still I'm missing apropriate shakos for my armies. Therefore I did some attempts which I would like to share, since doing that allone would not be successfull. LDraw parts: British-Shako: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/woody64/...o/2545-brit.dat French-Shako: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/woody64/...2545-french.dat Steps to Do: - Import to 3d CAD Program -- for the british shako already successfull done: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/woody64/...rit-blender.png http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/woody64/...o/2545-brit.stl - Control Dimensions (damned ldu/mm, I haven't taken a look so far) - Find Molder (http://www.protomold.com/ ?) - Get Proposal - Let the Molder create the Tool - Prototypes - Produce 1000 shakos :-) seems to be very easy Andreas

The only problem is that there is no replacement for the french shako style. Which was used by French Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, .... Germans, ... Russians, ... I'm dealing myself with this problem and I'm working for a french shako style as lego ldraw part. I've found also a molding office and have translated the lego shako style to a 3d cad format. Unfortunately this format can't be read by the office so far. My most favorite target would be to have a shako in french style molded ... If there's further interest in such activities then we can split this thread. Andreas

Will also be a pitty when his web side is lost .... I think that side was the initiator of my interest in lego minifigs :-(

Attention! Ideas for armies of the four French and Indian Wars
woody64 replied to Francis Marion's topic in LEGO Pirates
Here are some designs I made some weeks ago. In principle all of the uniforms look similar. Also Mosana did some parts of this periode. Take a look on this list and search for the period. Since all of the main countries were involved in America you can use them all. http://lego-minifig-generator.mac-au.eu/bo...withImages.html The black tricorne was nearly common. Andreas -
I can't say I understand why there is a man in a cannon: Baron Muenchhausen "but whatever floats your boat I guess" I can't translate? Andreas

good idea (nr.4 in my quote which I haved missed due to beeing absent). as i remember that was also one film coming into my mind ... andreas

The custom torso has been based on a design by mosana. It comes nearby the 11th hussars although in the film it is a 17th lancer (ulan shakos would also be a great idea for lego minifigs !!!) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=289972 The flag is from the flags library by Col.Whipstick: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=12829 For those guys who are interested in the historical facts I would strongly recommand the BBC article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/3944699.stm On youtube you can find the report in detail, which gives a first impression on media war more then 100 years ago and points out how reporting can incfluence history. (I always had in mind that this attack was a complete desaster) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMgCA9MVbmU&feature=related Andreas

I think you mean this: http://forum.lugnet.at/smf/index.php?topic=719.0 since it is an Austrian board, it's in German, but the first post lists the contest participants. You can also take this link to the gallery: http://gallery.lugnet.at/displayimage.php?...tup&cat=0&pos=4 Andreas

Very cool design. I also considered the fire helmets as replacement for the Napoleonic cuirassier helmets. The silver ones look really close to them (only missing the rope) .... I also vote for placing it here. (Maybe some issues can be linked if it's also interesting for others. In my case I often visit the pirates side but seldom the customization side. In that case I surely would have missed that item) Andreas

I definitly vote for this to be added to the index since it's based on David's famous painting with the same name. Andreas

Minifig Generator 2.0 The Generator has now reached major version 2.0. (based on php and prototype.js now) http://lego-minifig-generator.mac-au.eu/ Still the main purpose is pasting decals on minifig torsos. The main changes where: - support of jpeg/gif/png and now also bmp - creation of minifigs as one png (for usage as avatar or example) - enhanced face tool to paste also new faces on the given heads - rearranged main menu - larger base set of head, legs and torsos - new cut toll (use the scissor nearby the address field) to cut pieces out of an picture. (There are so many decals in the net having white borders, more then one decal, faces on it. Now you can use them) - extraction of images from a web page (5th button beyond the left frame) for example try http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=13049 in the address field - gallery of created minifigs - gallery of last used foreign decals I've tried a lot of examples from eurobricks, minifig customization and brickshelf and here are some results: Andreas

You may take a look on the vignette showing Nelson and a lot of marines. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=12478 Additionally I've added some Marine decals based on examples from Mosana. You will find some more on his brickshelf link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=249255&n=48 Andreas

I like it !!!! Especially since this picture was the starting point for my interest in modeling historical figures. I saw it in an Airfix magazine and a rebuild with 54mm soldiers. By the way: Some months ago i read a book about battles and failures which caused the loss of them. Maybe from my youth and the film I saw I was in the opinion that the battle was a total disaster and caused heavy casualties. But that's not true. Although the attack was nonsens the landscape hinders too heavy losses and also the total numbers of victims was far beyond the number I thought. Very interesting .... Maybe I find the title of the book since it has also very interesting material about other battles. Back to the scene. Very fine made although not a painting. Maybe someone finds a painting which fits ... Andreas P.S.: I found the BBC link. Now I remember it was a BBC report I saw .. BBC Link You Tube Battle of Balaclava

I. Read Mosana's excellent turorial: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=10009 II. Look into the pirates library. Maybe there is already a decal you can base on. III. Design your decal or change one as needed. Andreas

Armothe maybe has another solution:

I've checked it already and it works. To my knowledge mitras were mainly in silver and in gold. I think this head also exists in grey? Andreas
