It will be big...
dhc6twinotter replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks like a great project! I like those tracks. My guess is that you are building a CAT Challenger tractor: -
I agree. Looking at that picture, all the blades appear to be at the same pitch. This suggests it will at least have collective control. I hope it will have cyclic control too, as collective control by itself is a bit boring. I kind of doubt we will see a rotor assembly with both collective and cyclic control, but I hope I'm wrong. I like those new rotor blades.

This is great! I really like the planetary hubs and the way you built the wheels out of panels. That old-school sticker design on the roof is the icing on the cake! Me too! -
Crawler 9398 MOC
dhc6twinotter replied to Denny's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking awesome! I'm guessing the new motors have pin holes on the sides, which uses those pin with bushing pieces to hold it in place. Maybe. -
Crawler 9398 MOC

Denny, you are off to a great start! Looks fantastic. I think the two 1x11 beams in the above picture should be replaced with this part: The differential would be inside this, with the 12-20 reduction alongside. Nice work you're doing here! -

That's a clever crane design! I like it! -
Trophy Truck - MOC
dhc6twinotter replied to nikolyakov's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Welcome to the forum! It's nice to see another Technic building join. Your trophy truck is fantastic! You've done a very nice job building this, and I especially like the rear axle design. The front body work is nicely done as well. -

Ah, ok. Your English is very good. I just had a brain fart, and when I read "wheel lift", I was thinking liftable axle and not the wheel lift on the back. Sorry. -
Sorry I haven't been able to make much progress the last few weeks. I've been very busy, and I've only managed a few hours of lego build time. Do you guys think one rechargeable battery would be enough to power this moc? I'm fairly certain a AA battery box would, but I'm not sure about the 7.2v rechargeable one. It would certainly be easier to fit everything. I'm pretty sure I'll be mounting the IR receivers in the front bumper, but I'm not 100% sure on that. That's my leading idea for now. I've also been working on a more compact design for the boom/gearbox/cab synchronization mechanism. The turntable for the boom is about 4 or 5 studs too high, so I'm trying to figure out a way to lower it. There is also a small amount of backlash in my current design, which I think is caused by the worm gears sliding back and forth (they aren't quite 2 studs long) and maybe some play in the differential. I'd like to solve these issues with my new design as well. If I had known what a challenge this project was going to be, I don't think I would have started it. I guess I say that about all my projects though. Maybe I should just build modular buildings instead.

Tow Truck XL

Once again a great moc. I really like that you've managed to incorporate full suspension on this. The stabilizers are awesome. You've done a great job hiding the gearing used to extend the boom. Does the steering on the 2nd axle disengage when it is lifted? Very nice moc. Thanks for showing us! -
I didn't see this thread until I replied to the other one, so I'll just copy my comment here: Those new motors are pretty interesting, although a bit larger than I had hoped. Nice to see the steering has return-to-center. Looking at the motors used for steering, it looks like the servo motor is separate from the return to center mechanism. It looks like the two pieces fit together with a few pins. The suspension is interesting. I don't see any panhard bar, but I guess the 6L links on each side, combined with the torque tubes, keep the axles centered. It seems like this design would create some binding, particularly when the axle is at full droop on one side and completely compressed on the other. I guess it must work ok if the designers approved it. The color scheme is a bit crazy, but I'm liking those white 11x3 panels as well. I've been waiting a while for those, and they would be great for an upcoming moc. I'm looking forward to new news about the drive motor.

I'm on the fence about buying the crawler, but the helicopter is a must buy for me.

Very nice motorcycle! You've done a nice job capturing the lines of the original. The chrome parts are a nice touch. This brings back memories of the 8 years I spend in the Philippines. There were a lot of motorcycles similar to this over there, and they would put a whole family on one motorcycle. I miss it. -
Hey Squelch, I'd go with 8110. 8110 has much more parts and pneumatics. 8043 has more motors and is remote controlled. I guess it depends on whether you would prefer more PF parts, or a higher part count.

European Tow Truck
dhc6twinotter replied to GuiliuG's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very very nice tow truck. I like the use of two gearboxes. The dual winches are also a nice feature. Well done. -
That is probably the best way to do it, but if space is a concern, you can use the driving rings also. You could build a geared system using a differential for each function going through the center to compensate for the turntable turning. For example, use a setup similar to what Efferman posted, but use a differential at the bottom of the green axle, and another at the bottom of the red axle. Connect the ring gear of each differential to a set of gears that are also turned by the same shaft that turns the turntable. As the turntable turns, it also turns the ring gear on each of the differentials, and this, in turn, rotates the two axles that run through the center of the turntable. The trick is to get the gear ratios just right. I'm not good at explaining stuff. Hopefully that makes sense.
