  1. That's correct. The Technic bulldozer from a few years ago had 2XL and 2M motors in it, and all motors were connected to one battery box. My tractor ran 2XL motors and 2 or 3 M motors simultaneously off one AA battery box. I had the 2XL motors for drive, the M motor for steering, the M motor for the compressor, and, sometimes, the M motor for the PTO all running at once. Never had any issues, but none of the motors were stressed much. BTW, welcome to the forum!
  2. Hey, it was great to meet you! Sorry I didn't get to chat a bit more, but thanks for coming out!
  3. I have never seen a Yarder built, but that's not to say it hasn't been done. Alasdair Ryan was working on a Harvester, Efferman is building a Log truck with crane, somebody else built a TigerCat Feller Buncher, and I'm working on a John Deere Forwarder. I think with your Yarder, pretty soon we'll have a full line of LEGO logging equipment.
  4. It's nice to see somebody else getting into Technic! Here's my opinion about the sets: 8110 Unimog is a great set (although I have yet to get it). Includes pneumatics, motorized compressor, and some special parts. $200 8043 Excavator is also great. Part count isn't as high as the Unimog, but it has a nice assortment of gears, plus all the PF parts. $200 9397 Log Truck is a good set. Has some beams and a lot of 16t gears. $140 8069 Backhoe Loader is, imho, one of the better $60 sets I've seen in a while. MiniLA's are nice. $60 8109 Flatbed Truck is nice, but not that complicated. It does have some unique build techniques, like the lowering "suspension" and the flip out tow forks. Not a bad set at $100. 8070 Supercar has a lot of good red parts, good suspension pieces, a fair amount of gears. Great set if you plan on building cars, but if you plan on building trucks, spend a bit more and get the log truck. $120. IMHO, one of the best sets for somebody just getting into Technic is the 8258 Crane Truck. Good part assortment with LOTS of gears and a XL motor. If you can find one cheap, it would be worth picking up. Skip the Extreme Cruiser. Dumb set not worth the price...I'm sure it'll be on clearance soon enough. Just my opinion of some sets.
  5. The truck looks really good! Nice job on the design. I like the hitch. For the trailer, maybe you could try using pushrods that run from the hitch to the rear axle? I'm not sure how well that would work, but might be worth a try.
  6. And what that picture of me doesn't show is that I have a LEGO set in my hand. If I had known this picture was going to be posted for the whole world to see, I wouldn't have purposely put that cheesy grin on my face. Oh well.
  7. I had the pleasure of seeing this car at BrickMagic. I didn't think anything could get better than the SuperCar Deluxe, but the Vampire GT is fantastic! The attention to detail is amazing, and it's obvious that Paul spent a lot of time to perfect the design. Nicest looking Technic car I have ever seen.
  8. I'm looking forward to seeing this in the next day or two!
  9. Looking good! I like the panels you used on the front corners. Nice use of the piece!
  10. Ok, I know registration ends in 3 days. I'm still not sure if I can can make it. I've been waiting for a new clutch for my truck, but the part has been on backorder for a while. Anyways, is the registration fee refundable?
  11. Wow...that is awesome! What a great piece of LEGO engineering! Do you have any videos of it working?
  12. Cool project! That should provide some nice travel! That type of suspension was used on a lot of Fords back in the 90s. Ford even used a similar setup on their 4x4 trucks. Really interesting design.
  13. That's pretty cool! A friend of mine built his own rep-rap printer, but I don't think the precision is there for custom LEGO parts. I'd like to make a gear that slides easily along axles. It would be nice for telescopic booms, etc.
  14. Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but I did just want to say welcome! That is a really nice GBC module you have made. Do you have any videos of it? Do you plan on attending any of the LEGO conventions here in the US? There are usually some nice GBC layouts at the conventions.
  15. Thanks to EB for a great competition! I agree with what has been mentioned thus far, and I think some sort of part or size limit would be beneficial. A part limit is a good idea but may be somewhat difficult to enforce. I certainly don't count every piece that is in a moc. Maybe a size limit instead? Like a moc dimensions totaling less than 500 studs? This was my first competition, and size wise, I really didn't know what to expect from other members. We had a good mixture of different sized mocs, and, as illustrated in the competition, it doesn't take something big to win. I prefer 1 competition, but perhaps two levels would work? One level would be for larger mocs with no size constraint, with another level for mocs under a certain size. 1st place prize for the larger level would be something like the Unimog, with 1st place prize for the smaller level something like the Backhoe. The only problem with this scenario is that mocs that are very unique but not parts intensive wouldn't be able to win the larger prize, so maybe this isn't a good idea after all. I dunno....just throwing out ideas. The plane was done by the final deadline. See thread here. I wouldn't submit a half-built moc. That isn't fair to the other contestants. Anyways, just my thoughts on that. Thanks again for a great competition!
  16. That is amazing. I think this is one of my favorite vehicles from Sheepo. The transmission with the clutch is awesome, and I love the addition of the 2spd t-case. Really nice job with the bodywork too. Really fantastic moc.
  17. Chassis looks great! There is some nice building technique there.
  18. I'm an aviation nut as well as a LEGO nut, and since I can never come up with a good username, I just pick airplane names! My username, dhc6twinotter, comes from the DeHavilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter:
  19. I like LAs. My backhoe never had very many issues with them, even though the excavator arm was pretty heavy. Every now and then, the LA clutch on the dipper stick would click, but not all the time. I've been impressed with the LAs thus far. I do wish LEGO would make longer pneumatic cylinders.
  20. Hey! I've been there! I've got some good friends that live in slo, and we have a big jamboree in Pismo every year. Cool place!
  21. Are you wanting to control each LED individually, or is it ok for them all to go on/off at the same time? If you want them all on/off at the same time, you could use the RJ45 to old style 9V plug, then use the PF extension cable to plug in a set of PF LED lights (assuming you're using PF LED?). You could stack 4 LED lights on top of each other to get the 8 LEDs you want. So, you would need this: Then plug in this: Then your lights, with the plugs stacked on top each other. I've never tried it, but I'm assuming it would work. Maybe somebody with more NXT experience than I can verify.
  22. You're right, definitely no AWD there. It looks like they added it later, and used the chassis from a Golf Country syncro with springs from a Honda Civic. Apparently, they added the AWD because they wanted the car to have the ability to do a wheelie, as Dino mentioned. This is supposed to soften the landings a bit. The Civic springs were both longer and stiffer than the Golf springs. Interesting project.
