Nice pirate ship sting! i like the usage of the 2x2 round plate instead of the standard steering wheel. that's a good idea for those smaller vessels like the one you've built. For your moc cannons you could use black or gray light saber pieces instead of the flag poles (if ya got em). Hey sting, what set do those torsos come from that you have on your signiture or avatar (the mini-fig with the white hand and white shoulder pad thingys)?

the hull is 140- 145 studs long and with the forward facing mast the length is about 5 ft long or 1.54 m long

what's MSIB? my most prized lego pirate set is by far the original release BSB. i was saddened in a way when i saw it was a re-release, but i'm ok with that now.

Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like?
Capn Frank replied to Norro's topic in LEGO Pirates
mister phes, that sounds like a supperb post on the lugnet forum. post away! -
i don't even have the walls of the gun deck built yet, which is going to be white (eh pretty much :P), i'm hoping that ties in the black and blue better. The stern and a little with the bow also needs to be reworked with the intro of blue. i'll see how it turns out.

it's hard for my sucky camera to not take sucky pictures. Here's the current side view as requested. When the ship is complete, i'll post pics with a crew and all my cannon, but that might not be for a month or two. That's the Armada flagship right behind the frigate. Thanx for the compliments ppl.

First off I'd like to say is that if you have any questions about this ship, please check out the MOCpages website first to if I've already discused it. The gun deck is going to be able to have 32 guns. The top deck should be able to have an addional 15 to 20 cannons. The hull is 34 studs at the widest and about 140 studs long. It's got a current crew of 120 to 135 pirates. With masts, the ship's main mast is about 4.5 feet tall or about 1.4m tall and is 5 feet long or about 1.5m long. Right now i'm only using bricks that i currently have and am pretty limited right now for getting new bricks just for this ship. Please feel free to give me input. Thanx. The first pic is pretty old. I just wanted to give ppl a feel for how big it is since the frigate is currently under heavy costruction in the center portion and is in no condition to have a full view pic. The bottom half of the masts i use technic and long brick beams. They aren't exactly round, but they're very solid and sturdy and easy to build crows-nest platforms off of. The top half of the masts are just the classic pirate masts made as high as possible. The second pic is a good view of the rear of the stern. The gun deck is going to moved up one level to be on the same level as the captain's quarters. I know the interior floors are red and won't be after i'm done with a major part of the center section. I didn't think i had enough plates but later realized i did. The third picture is a current view of my bow. I have since decided to get rid of the helicopter pieces for capstans and have since made a different capstan. This capstan thread on eurobricks here is where the pics are for my new capstan. I realized i could do much better than using helicopter pieces. My brother is also very much into lego pirates. Growing up, he choose to get Imperial guard sets while i got pirate sets. The wolf figurehead is knawing on a skeleton with an Imperial captain's hat on as kind of joke between my brother and I. >8-) My brickshelf link that has all my internet pics here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=207619 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=207619 My MOCpages link that describes more of the ship: http://www.mocpages.com/folder.php/11160

that capstan looks nice with that 3 stud diameter brown satelite dish. I think i'll try to experiment with Mr. Tiber's (sorry i had misspelled it earlier) and "baronsat's" design. thanx mr tiber

The future direction of the Pirate LEGO Forum
Capn Frank replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
for those devout to the cause of lego reissuing the pirate them. maybe we should start building mocs that lego could possibly sell in the market. in other words, don't build ships as big as possible and as accurate as possible. maybe limit a moc spanish galleon to only 2 center hull pieces and four cannon and 8 to 10 men included. build a spanish fort using a big giant burp with few wall pieces. and whatever else. Then we could find a way to give these ideas to lego. With the extreme popularity of Pirates of the Carribean and some popularity of Master and Commander and with megablocks making their own pirate theme, it's hard for lego to deny that there is a market for pirates. -
thank you legopirate83 to yous guys that replied here. I've been searching like crazy for the best books to buy for reference on ships. The library in town here doesn't have ANY books on sailing ships and i can request a book but i would never know which ones to request. Also the book stores near by have next to nothing dealing with the topic. These are exactly the type of books i wanted to buy for myself and buy my brother for christmas(a fellow lego pirate fanatic). X-D

Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like?
Capn Frank replied to Norro's topic in LEGO Pirates
Got my confirmation email in less the 12 hours and have already posted on lugnet. My first dream set is a pirate ship (i love ships). but my second would be a UCS Imperial Fort that costs $200 to $300 (US) with 2,000 to 3,500 bricks. The fort would have lots of those white wall castle pieces and lots of figs and specialty figs only availible with that set. (drool) :islander2: That'd be so kewl. -
i love all the detail involved in this. i've never made a MOC harbor, but if i were to this would be a great example to look at for a standard
-
Mr. Tiber, if you have only 13 guns and don't want to purchase anymore right now you could make MOC cannons. In real life, it wasn't very often that a ship would carry all of the same type of guns. My MOC cannons doubled my cannon count to 54 and now I have three different sized guns too. See the "Custom Cannon" thread for ideas.

i just was wondering how you mounted the steering wheel on the deck to keep it rotating and not get the string caught on anything
-
i think it would be a close call between the two because the BSB seems to be built more solid than the SES while the SES has a broadside of 4 cannons. Yet i choose BSB because i like it better. First of all it's a classic. Yes it comes with red sails. I've always thought of that as a freshly stolen imperial guard ship and can be easily turned into the imperial guards ship if you want them to have a bigger ship. X-D

Request Pirate Lego - what future sets would you like?
Capn Frank replied to Norro's topic in LEGO Pirates
i also am waiting for my confirmation email so that i can post in that forum. i've also emailed lego customer service directly earlier today (before i read this post) about making a MINI-FIG pirate line (not jack stone scale or duplo). i figured i wouldn't get much feed back but at least they know what a devout customer wants -
Mr. phred, is there already a thread about you ship in the MOC forum? I can't really see the details (get an error on mocpages: Query for cookie hit tracking failed). here is the brickshelf link http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=213173 i also am having problems with moc pages no i don't have a post about my frigate yet. i've never made my own post so i made my weigh anchor one to see how they work here
-
as requested by bonaparte, here are da pics on how ta make me version of me capstan. (stupid camera kept on focusing on the carpet) Mr. Tiber, i know the gray looks modern but i have yet to get the proper colored components to make it look better. There is a viking set that i dont have yet that comes with the proper pieces. I do like your capstan, it looks like you've used a ship's steering wheel. I'd much like to see how you managed to get the string to wind up like that.

It seems to have Spanish/Tribal theme to it. Maybe Kahuka's Revenge. That's just a quick thought. I've got it now, here's the story: There were these pirates that stole a Spanish ship. And as they were sailing away in their cool new ship they crashed into a shallow reaf and had to be stuck for a very long time with some islanders and used the islanders help to fix their ship (or the pirates took over the islander settlement and took what they wanted and made the islanders fix it). After the repairs were made the repaired vessel sails away with hope to get more treasure and live happily ever after.

Note to Mister Phes: I hope the image is small enough for the forum. This is my first post of an image and my first New Topic. Hopefully I haven't broken any rules of etiquette for this forum. Just let me know. I'm trying to make a lego aparatus that raises and lowers large anchors that is similar to how they're done in real life. This is my first attempt and would like some input. At first I was thinking of using those helicopter pieces that were used for the Skull Eye Schooner, but it didn't have the kewlness effect I was going for. I've figured out how to make two of them (one for each anchor) to be placed on my top deck of my ship, I just want them to look more realistic. It took forever to figure out how to make something round with six or eight sticks or poles protruding out of the sides evenly spaced. I took the other one apart and "posed" it in such a way so that everyone can see how it's built. Having this anchoring assembly four studs wide is about the right fit for my frigate that i'm building, seeing how the hull is about 140 studs long and 34 studs wide. I hope no one gets too offended that I mixed in one light bley 4 stud wide satelite dish with my classic gray. :-P

http://media.peeron.com/brickjournal/brickjournal3.pdf It's about a ship made by Richie Dulin called "The Miserable". It uses standard lego hull mid-sections, but they have been cut in the middle to make the ship wider. I'm considering this "technique" for my future ship. i saw what Richie had done and his ship looks great, however i personally don't ever want to put a hacksaw to my hull pieces. I got a little list together from mocpages.com on some of the best large mocs i've seen of pirate ships and mine. i'd much rather use bricks than hacking away on my precious hull pieces :P http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/21250 this web site uses 3x3 angled bricks, this is my favorite mega pirate moc online right now http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/23693 this is my web site, i used a similar way to build my bow as the first website i listed. i used the black 3x3 angled bricks as much as i could cause it's harder to see the brick lines with black than any other color. http://www.mocpages.com//content_block.php/5451 this web site uses mainly plates for the hull, i don't like it much but it gives you an idea as to what it takes to make a plated hull (tried to fix da links)

right now i'm only spending about $50-$100 per year on lego pirate. I'm pretty content with the amount of lego pirate sets i have right now. What i'm really focused on is trying to buy as many bricks as possible with as little money possible. For instance, right after christmas when all the sets are on sale i'll probably be spending easily $100 on legos at wal-mart and toys-r-us. It's usually been about $10-$75 per month on just lego sets. I'm a full time college student, so i can't afford much right now. Once lego decides to start making a pirate them again, my spending will easily increase
-
Hmm. Interesting, then i guess anybody can do anything they want with the blue coats and red coats and mix them up. I had some qualms with ppl mixing them up, but not any more. In my little circle of lego land, we'll probably continue to call the blue flag with four "Fleur De Lis"s french
-
i think of the blue coats as french mainly for the french type symbols on their flags. you've got to admit, all the flags with the blue-coat sets have that french symbol thingy on them. granted, i have no qualms with mixing up the uniforms to distinguish higher or lower ranks on the british side or may even the french side (if i found out the french indeed have some predominately red uniforms).

Captain Bonapart, it would seem that you may need to think "outside the hull" and make your own hulls as wide and long as you like on longer ships. A frigate, in my opinion, needs to be wider than the standard hull pieces. Just food for thought.
