  1. Great work tinypiesrus *y* That's a very sweet idea for a vig *sweet* Hmm... ...competition idea maybe? 8-| I really like it, nice touch with the painter *y* That's awesome :-D Also, you been officially assimilated into the Vig portion of the Land-based MOC index X-D You're in row 1 (had to fill in some gaps) P
  2. Personally, i wouldn't recommend using plates for your bow. The rest of the hull might be alright. :-$ Check out ZCerberus's Leviathan and Phantom. These are 2 ships that may be the most successful @ using plates for hulls. *y* For the bow i'd recommend 3x3 wedges, piece # 30505 on BL. They're exactly the same shape as facets, only they're almost always a lot cheaper, even in tan. That's what i'm using on the bottom portion of my Constitution and used a lot more on my Dame du Loup. It's easier to make a lot stronger using bricks than plates, just a thought. X-D P
  3. i'll try not to rush it (much X-D ) Yes it should, about one or 2 more bricks down to be precise. ;-) I can always add another brick layer or two down later when i decide how i'm going to connect the portion that's under the water :-$ P Phredit: Gotten further on the constitution till i realized i needed a way for all the cannons on the gundeck to be tied to the wall |-/ Made a BL order already for a bunch of these: Here's a pic of a cannon quickly tied to the wall: And here's one that i was originally going to have: Here're some progress pics of the whole ship so far: Here's a pic with the "old" version of my gunports (which is ready to be dismantled X-D ):
  4. Thanx for the compliments guys Do you mean, how do i make the top of the platforms? *wacko* It probably would work if the crowsnest were big enough. That's would definitely worth something to try on my next small ship X-D And your question is? :-$ P
  5. You've got to have extras all over the exterior of both of your ships :-P I guess i'll just have to order some from BL then. |-/ Unless i'm in Minnesota, then i'll just come over and take them X-D Thanx Z According to the plans in the book i'm using, my masts are actually a little big :-/ I'm hoping it'll look better when i place the masts on the ship. |-/ P
  6. Pretty much the same method as Captain Green Hair *y* My cost estimate is just an estimate, and may be higher, depending on how detailed i want to be :-$ I definitely would only buy multiple small orders for your frigate. First i'd try to build a portion of the ship that you may have bricks for (even in the wrong color) and order what you feel you may need to get the right colors of bricks and continue construction. Then as you build your frigate, you'll make improvements of your original design on the way and may decide to do a major (or minor) design changes. Like my gun ports. I recommend starting at the stern or bow and the bottom up as Captain green hair does :-) I've gotten pretty far on the bow so far. have to make more of the gundeck to start on the spar deck. Since i've gotten a real good idea as to how i'd like to make the ship below the gundeck, i can build at the water line up now X-D Here's a pic of my wife's new mini-fig: She wanted a MF with a top-hat, so this was the coolest torso i could find to go with one. I think this guy looks awesome *y* Sorry for the blurry pics :'-( P

    Xebec

Don't know what ra's are? 8-| X-D Like ZCerberus said, it you'd like to make the true xebec with ores, the ore holes and gun ports ought to be on the same deck. ;-) Unfortunately this ship no longer exists. :-$ It's the brown portion of the pile on the bottom left. P
  8. I too was wondering where this "on" thing came from. :-) I figured *yoda* , TT, and/or Copmike started it all with those guys on-ing everything and all X-D P
  9. great architecture gui *y* And welcome again to the Land Based MOC index X-D P
  10. Yup, the apocalypes X-D With the $150 to $200 i've spent so far, i'll probably need another $300 to $600 of bricks to complete the portion above the water (most of that being high price items like black barrels and tan tiles for the carronades, shakos (if there is ever 30 available |-/ ), and the 250 pirate figs i need yet.) and who knows how much more it'll cost to have nothing but tan slopes on the exterior on the exterior below the water with rown floors. *wacko* But it's going to be so flippin sweet when it's done *wub* P
  11. Oh my goodness! That's a technic MOC cannon 8-
  12. There is a very similar thread right here: Similar Thread This one was about brick built hulls (pretty much X-D ) P
  13. The apocalypse has rained down unto my Constitution X-D I've decided to remake the porthole covers to one 3x3 door each. One of the books paladin mentioned shows that a porthole is just a little bit less than 3 ft by 3 ft. Like ppl said already, my porthole doors were too big :-P Here's the rebuild so far: Now i've got to get A LOT of 1x2 and 1x1 black tiles. Hopefully Z will let me have some if has extras :-D P
  14. Voted for *yoda* and hewkii9 P
  15. Hey since you're back does this mean you've got some Lcad ships complete? Thanx B :'-) Well i used or on top of one another with two 1x1 plates between each brick. placed a 1x2 plate on two sides and rotated the bricks up 60 degrees in a spiral effect X-D About the drummer, from what i've seen on the pictures, it seems like the white strap across his torso is supposed to hold up the drum. So i just tried to be discrete with my string and make it look like the stap is holding up the drum as much as possible. ;-) P
  16. Thanx for the compliments :-) Using about 1 foot = 1 stud or about 1 meter = 3 studs According to the plans in the book i have, the main mast is 2.75 feet in diameter at the widest point and the mast i built is about 3 studs (or 3 ft) in diameter and the crows nest is 21 feet wide and 16 feet long and the crows nest i built is 15 long and 20 studs wide. I think the crows nest does look too big also. Hopefully it'll look like it fits better when it's on the ship and there's rigging on it. :-$ I only got a rough estimate of the height from the spar deck to the crows nest and it's about 55 studs plus or minus 5 studs (looks like i may have to minus ;-) ) P
  17. Just to throw in my input X-D I think this one looks a lot better than the other version. Even though the other one opens out (which would be easier to hold back intruders), i'd still go with the one above ;-) P
  18. Well I've gotten a little further, I've been re-working the bow and made my first "draft" of the bottom portion of the main mast. Here's the portion of the ship i've got pictures of: The mast is HUGE and this only the bottom portion of 4 portions of the main mast *wacko* Where the large green brick is is about where the top deck of the constitution is going to be. Here be some pics: Up to 20 marines and crew can fit on each crows nest. They're about 20 x 15 studs each. Here's a comparison of the mast and my french merchant vessel: This is my first rough draft, so i'm very willing to improve if there are suggestions. P
  19. Haven't you seen PoTC3? If one can't be decided, then there isn't a pirate king :-P My best over all (ish) went again to Cap'n Sly Owl Sorry Doube-O :'-( but it's tied again :-D P
  20. Hey Mr. Gui45, Just out of curiosity, are you the builder of this MOC? If so, what's its status? P
  21. Well i made a bunch of pics of me crows nest Arrrr Well first off here's a thumb-link of your typical mast. On the back of the top-mast place a Bracket 2 x 2 - 1 x 4. This is what holds up the whole crows nest X-D Then put on a couple of Plate 2 x 2 Corner pieces and a 1 x 4 plate. On top of those plates, place 2 1 x 6 plates on top. Now you put on the string. On here and on my merchant ship, i used one piece of string for each mast. I recommend looping the further back portions of the rigging where it connects to the hull first. And then alternate side to side as you keep "looping" forward. When the "looping" is complete is should look something like this X-D Now that the complex part is complete *y* Next, you place one 1 x 6 plate, one 1 x 8 plate, and one 2 x 10 plate. Then you place two 3 x 3 wedge plates, three 2 x 4 plates, two 1x1 plates, and one 1 x 10 plate. After that it's pretty much up to you. I recommend placing more string from this crows next to the top of the mast. Oh and here's the semi-finished product. Tah-dah! This crows nest is 6x10. The smallest i recommend with this technique is a 6x8. It's real easy to go bigger too *y* Let me know if i need to describe something better X-D P Phredit: Once Captain Greenhair is done with his rigging tutorial, i'd like to try his type of rigging on this type of a crows nest. X-D
  22. Great dock so far Mr. gui *y* It seems to be so much more than a background for another ship X-D I too would like to see a pic of the back side of the dock :-) Here be some thumb links of all the pics of Mr. Gui's dock: P
  23. That would be a superb dock to make bluff *y* P
  24. Well, since it was originally the Duguay Trouin and then taken over by the UK and re-named the HMS Implacable. As a british vessel, it was no longer the Duguay Trouin X-D does it make sense now? :-) P
