Thanks for the review. I do have a few mixed feelings about the set. It definitely captures the shape of the MTT better than the last two sets did, yet I can't help but feel disapointed by the tiny droid rack when the previous edition could hold 16 battle droids. The gaps also make it seem a bit hollow and unfinished, but from the looks of things they should be an easy fix with a few basic bricks. Qui-Gon and the Naboo Security Guard are fantastic though. I really hope we get some more Naboo themed sets in the next Winter wave because it would be a shame not to see more of the guards. Obi-Wan is fairly decent, but its a shame he's still using that generic male hairpiece. The one Kanan Jarrus uses would have looked a lot more accurate. His face could use a bit more detail too since its a bit plain compared to the other heroes in the Star Wars line. I might wait until this one's on sale.

Phoenix could have easily been included in the X-Men vs Sentinel set. They even had a spare seat for her on the Blackbird.
-
He definitely has a new face print. The new figure has a raised eyebrow look, whereas the Infiltrator had a frown and the Gungan Sub had a happy face. I'm curious to see if he comes with an alternate expression like Obi-Wan does.

Some high res pictures of the MTT for anyone interested. I'm really not sure what to think of it. It captures the shape of the MTT better than any set before it, but it looks so hollow with gaps gallore. The minifigures are nice though. We really need a battlepack next year with those new Naboo Security Guards.

Bard looks awesome! Hopefully he's just a preview figure like Azog, but if he isn't I'm glad we at least got the character in last year's Lake-Town set.

Anything thats gives us more variety in wookies is always a good thing.
-
I really hope next year brings us a new AAT, Bounty Hunter Pursuit and Flash Speeder/Naboo Battle Pack, because I don't think we're going to see many more prequel sets once Episode VII hits theatres.

The price might not just cover the set itself. Remember those collector tins the Sith Infiltrator and Landspeeder came in at SDCC 2012? That would no doubt push the price up.
-
I don't mind missing out on Green Lantern since the SDCC figure was based on the movie, and we know a comic version is coming down the road. But it annoys me how fans are screwed out of so many other characters like Green Arrow, Spider-Woman, Bizaro, Symbiote Spidey and Shazam. Phoenix is probably the worst one for me because not only are we looking at one of the most popular X-Men characters in whats easily her most iconic outfit, but the figure was essentially giving you two characters in one. Sure we can get a 90s Jean Grey in a set someday, but that figure would only be useful as Jean Grey alone. Likewise a Dark Phoenix minifigure is only useful for representing Jean's darkside. The SDCC Phoenix gave the best of both worlds.

Spalko's hairpiece doesn't really work because of the bangs. None of the short hair pieces are really a good match to be honest. The only way they could really pull off a short haired Mystique is if they designed an all new piece for her. I could see them using Poison Ivy's hairpiece if they wanted to go the lazy route with Mystique's long haired look though.

I wish more of Lego's Comic Con exclusives were like these ones.

Its sad to see Lego is still releasing minifigures exclusive to comic con. Who benefits from this other than scalpers selling them off at ridiculous prices? I don't know why they don't just stick with giving away a micro vehicle in an exclusive tin like the Landspeeder and Sith Infiltrator from a few years back, or preview figures like Azog. If they release anymore exclusive X-Men I'll be fuming! Not anymore. This piece makes Elektra, Gwen Stacy and comic Black Widow a real possibility.

The hollywood starlet's hairpiece is perfect for Black Widow. Hopefully Lego will use it this time around. The original piece was fine when all Lego had to go on was concept art, but there's really no excuse for a more accurate version this time around. Thor could use an update as well. Qui-Gon Jinn's hairpiece looks a lot closer to Thor in the new movie than the current Aragorn one does.

Is it too early to say Lord of the Rings? But seriously I would love to see the Black Falcons and Forestmen rebooted for the Castle line. The Crusaders not so much since the Lion Knights of the Kingdoms line already felt like a remake of that faction. Classic Space would be good to see again too, but I also wouldn't mine a "Greatest Hits" Space line featuring a mix of rebooted Blacktron, Ice Planet, Spyrius and M-Tron. Wasn't one of the reasons to do with Lego picking up the Prince of Persia license and the two themes being deemed too similar to each other?

Its not the size of the set that bothers me, but the proportions of the body. They don't look right - and the two versions before it weren't any better either. The only AT-AT thats really captured the shape of the "torso" is the original 4483.
-
The Witch-King in the Hobbit set is supposed to be the twilight version, not the armoured one from ROTK.
-
I'm surprised they've left Biggs and Wedge this long. They could have easily taken the place of the generic pilots in the planet sets or advent calenders.
-
That sucks but not surprising. The best we can do now is try to push the LOTR projects on Ideas and hope at least one can pass the review stage.
-
She could always come with both hair and a helm like Princess Leia, Wolverine and Magneto did.
-
Gondor Soldiers would be great, but for me the remaining key characters that played an important role in the story like Eowyn and Faramir are a higher priority than generic troops or costume variations of previously released characters.
-
They've definitely captured the shape of the MTT better than the last two versions did, but I'm really not keen on all those gaps on the sides and the floor. The droid rack only holding six battle droids is disapointing but hopefully it will be easy enough to mod. Glad they kept the wheels underneath and the STAP holding rack in the back seems pretty cool. The Obi-Wan figure is pretty disapointing though. The new alternate smiley face looks too plain and generic - kind of like a City minifigure. Its also a shame that he still uses the generic male hairpiece when they now have an excellent new mold with Kanan Jarrus's minifigure. Its not 100% perfect but it looks a lot more accurate than the current piece does and would go a long way to making Obi-Wan look a lot less plain.

While I love the design of the citadel and tower, I think I prefer NujuMetru's Minas Tirith since it looks a bit tidier and more managable as a set, not to mention affordable. It also has the advantage of having 4300 more votes.

Seems like a waste to just end the line now. The DVD release of the final Hobbit film (plus the potential Hobbit/LOTR box sets) will still keep the franchise in the public eye a little while longer after the theatrical release, plus all the sets everyone's demanding (Balrog, Gondor, Treebeard, Witch-King) would sell out MUCH faster than what we were given in the second wave.

My thoughts on the minifigures: Elrond, Galadriel and the Witch-King have all been confirmed for the Dol Guldur set so there's not much to speculate here. Bain is the only one we know for sure is coming in Lake-Town, but I think there's a very high chance we'll see Bard there as well. He's going to play a big role in the story and Lego will want to have some of the main heroes available in the new wave for those just getting into the line. Plus he was given a different blue costume in the video game instead of the brown one we saw in the previous Lake-Town set. I don't think they would have done that unless there was a new figure on the way. As for the remaining minifigures, I'm going to guess Bolg will be included here rather than the Battle of Five Armies just to add some conflict to the set. Tauriel might show up as a potential fourth minifigure based on the design of her casual outfit from the game. It looks a lot more authentic than the designs of other Lake-Town themed characters in the game like Alfrid. Battle of Five Armies I think will keep a similar line up to previous battle packs, even if the set is a little more expensive this time around. Dain seems the most likely as the hero character, Beorn in bear form will fill the spot of the molded creature and 5 additional soldiers to round the rest off. Aside from Smaug I don't think we'll see any new characters in the Lonely Mountain - just new costume variants. We can guarentee Bilbo and Thorin are going to be included here. The other characters really depend on whether the set itself is designed to cover scenes from the overall trilogy rather than just the conclusion of the second film. If thats the case we can probably count on yet another Gandalf, the dwarves that will play an important role in the third movie (Balin, Kili, Fili etc) and if we're lucky an armoured Thranduil.

I'm not too keen on another Tumbler myself. Something new would be better. Still I can understand why Lego would base it on The Dark Knight. Its a much more popular movie with general audiences than Batman Begins and Ledger's Joker is one of the most iconic villains in modern cinema. As much as I want a minifigure of Ra's Al Ghul, I don't think he offers the same incentive as Joker. I have no desire to ever see Rachel Dawes as a minifigure though. She's incredibly dull and isn't even a real Batman character.
