  1. So I tried the Lego Worlds and its a lot of fun, there's heaps of potential there. I would say they would add more sets...imagine running along the shore being chased by a pirate ship, or being the pirate muhahaha. There's already talk of people wanting to mod it so maybe some could "help" introduce more pieces like the start of creator mode in LDD for those that remember, it builds much the same. And FPS Oculus support would complete the drool.
  2. So I could import my Capital Space ship!?! That's mad I've gotta try that. I had some success importing LDD into the Unity engine but this... Imagine using the Rift with this and seeing your hands like yellow claws haha. A I've just started, is there functionality? Like can you open doors etc?
  3. Man for an early version of this program I really like this! I didn't expect to be able to move pieces around to different stages to modify how you want it. Luv it, keep it up.
  4. Sorry for the late response. 21,416 pieces on just the fighter dock control system, its modular and designed to be replicated. I can open it but not move it around LDD just closes. This is a pic: https://www.flickr.com/photos/shr0ud/8119550301/ I run LDD on an i7 3ghz, 12 gb ram, nvidia GTX 780 Ti, solid state drives with 64 bit Win 7. Did you have any luck from TLG?
  5. Once you reach a certain amount of poly's LDD will close/crash. There is nothing you can do to stop it except break your moc down into smaller chunks. My capital ship is on hold until LDD might finally overcome this and maybe even use your graphics card instead of just being software rendered.
  6. Its not a bad thing to take a break as I've done due to LDD's limitations. I've always used Flickr as a source of inspiration as it gives me ideas of things I would like to make (without copying of course). Create yourself a vision of what you would like your works to actually be rather than just Mocs posted on a forum. My vision: 1. One day TLG or someone clever will create a gaming platform where you can import your MoCs and use them in an open world sandbox. You would be able to assign rules to different parts so wheels act as wheels or even rockets for instance. That's why I want to finish my capital ship and fly it around with as many people as possible. 2. Something a little less far fetched (sigh) is you can import your mocs into 3dsmax or light wave and create scenes. use Photoshop to make awesome wallpapers or create a comic strip don't just limit yourself to LDD, treat it as your base tool. Create characters and a story to expand your works. Your style is how you build and will only get better with inspiration and most of all I believe a purpose. Randomly building for the sake of building will run you into a wall.
  7. Look in the pinned software section I believe you will find what you are looking for. I've used it and exported the part list to bricklink purchasing through there.I designed my mini scale sky station in LDD first then exported the parts list and bought them:https://www.flickr.c...0ud/9299630508/
  8. Multiple threads and definitely GPU support would be amazing! I know the reason why they don't focus on this is because they would have to pay a team to do it rather than on the side like it is now (you guys rock and I hope you read this). It doesn't generate income for TLG and as a business they wont dedicate time to something that is not an asset. Having said that I would be happy to purchase, yes PURCHASE an advanced mode. You see it all the time, purchase the pro version and get this and this feature more. I never get the pro version but this is something I would make an exception to. Create LDD Pro TLG! Think of the income, hell even trial it with the added features and see what it will do for your bottom line. The free version is what you get now. Export it to pick-a-brick inside the program and watch what happens.
  9. Well they started out keeping it simple as it was aimed at kids so they could build their project online and purchase it in real life. If it was too complicated they thought it would never take off. Well then someone found a way to modify LDD and use all the pieces(awesome job I was around then) and that's when it really took off. Its now a quality 3D design Lego program used by more adults that have been begging TLG to add more functionality. Its not just for kids anymore so if you want it simple TLG just add a "simple" mode or "advanced mode". Easy done. 1. Mirror mode for a selection 2. For the love of god make it stable enough for massive projects as my capital ship has been on hold until it does. Even modular pieces make it crash. Love it just the same.
  10. Very cool, I'd like to see what benefits it will bring!
  11. 1. Export the LXF using LDD to an Ldraw file and make sure you use gallaghersart's XML file. 2. Use an Ldraw program (I use MLCAD) to then export it to your .3ds. I export to a lightwave file as well then Blender may work. I prefer max tbh and have had success going from there to a game engine.
  12. In 10 years we will be buying Lego online and having it print out on our personal 3D printer :P But yea this is a long time coming, I've been using instructions on the tablet for a while as I was building some older sets. Getting a 3D image is great and would be even better if we could export our LDD MoCs to the app. Will they make older sets available even if its without animations you think? Even if the community designs them...
  13. You do such an amazing job Mike I really do hope you find others to help you out. i have no idea how to do it myself otherwise I would help as I do use your xml. I've imported mocs from LDD to Ldraw and then into Max to tinker around with importing them into games. That was successful by the way with some help.
  14. Thats impressive. I wonder if TLG will ever take this feedback and allow us to create large builds
  15. If you click my signature at the bottom of my post it will take you to my Flickr page. Like you I have to make it in sections as its minifig scale.
  16. I've been wanting a solution to this problem for a very long time to finish my capital ship build so if someone does come up with a solution please post it. I'm running: Intel i7 950 @ 3ghz 12 GB RAM 64 bit win 7 R9 290x radion 4gb Corsair Solid State Drive running on AHCI. Crashes when a certain brick limit is met. Would be nice if it used the GPU...
  17. Just a few from me that have been mentioned: 1. Use Nvidia/ATI hardware for better performance 2. 64 Bit compatability 3. No brick limit (Currently closes with a high brick count) 4. Wireframe mode for large builds lowering CPU usage 5. Mirror mode (Select bricks then click 'Mirror' creating a mirror image group) 6. Actual colour mode so you can just use RL bricks availible if you wish 7. Multiple instances of the program with the use of drag and dropping selected items (great for multiple monitors) As DesignByMe was designed to be simple (and now not used) there isnt a reason why it cant be more detailed now. I realise that its freeware and the developers are taking time away to create this which really doesnt add any revenue but who knows where it could lead to? We do love the developers too
  18. I never cheat at anything so when I'm building I always make it so I can purchase the parts and make it IRL when I want to. The only deviation I have to this is the colours, but I would adapt the MoC when purchasing the parts. The only one I will probably always keep digital is my capital ship as it would cost too much. I grew up with Lego and will always build it but prefer LDD now.
  19. Might I recommend some different light settings? I played around a lot with them to get it right (Not perfect yet), also used one shadow and only two lights. If you like open the pov file in POV Ray and replace the code for the lights with this: light_source { <100,100,0> color 30/100*ldd_light_color shadowless transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } light_source { <-100,100,0> color 50/100*ldd_light_color area_light 5, 5, 10, 10 adaptive 1 jitter circular orient transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } I use that as standard but for darker mocs use this: light_source { <100,100,0> color 90/100*ldd_light_color shadowless transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } light_source { <-100,100,0> color 70/100*ldd_light_color area_light 5, 5, 10, 10 adaptive 1 jitter circular orient transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } light_source { <0,100,0> color 20/100*ldd_light_color shadowless transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } light_source { <0,0,1> color 30/100*ldd_light_color parallel shadowless transform { ldd_camera_transformation } } An example of a dark Moc can be found here with those light settings.
  20. Hey all, After a week of rendering I've put some of my MoCs on my newly created Flickr stream, thought id share some of the cool things LDD can do. Please leave me some feedback as there is more coming http://www.flickr.com/photos/shr0ud/
  21. Cheers for that :) I played with the fog a little before but couldnt get it exactly right as that tut is for LDRAW and the code is a bit different. Loving the converter I must say, two 4am sessions now heh
  22. I had a question about the horizon line as well if anyone can help. I want to have a blend so there is no horizon line at all, I've fluked it working on one moc but the other (with the same settings) has a line. What is the code I would need to achieve this? Ok it was just the camera angle so you couldnt see the horizon line. Is it still possible?
  23. I was doing a render in POV using the converter and found an orange peel effect on the underside of part number 45301 (LDD Number). Looks like a poly is off a little
  24. I cant believe I finally got POV-Ray to work, UAC (User Account Control) was the issue and once I turned it off the rendering work straight away. Off to make a Flickr account I go!
