[Software] LDD2PovRay
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hey guys, I must admit it looks to be a great idea but I just cant get it to work. I've read through every page of this thread and tried every solution but to no avail! I get this message everytime: Preset INI file is 'C:\Users\SHROUD\Documents\POV-Ray\v3.7\ini\quickres.ini', section is '[512x384, No AA]'. Preset source file is 'C:\ARCHIVE\Finished Downloads\Untitled.pov'. Rendering with 8 threads. Im running Win 7 64 bit. Im using the 64 bit converter and leaving it open, pov ray 3.7, the \\.\LDDIncludes is in the .ini file, ive moved the .pov file and the file im testing is one brick in the latest LDD. Any ideas? -

MOC: Modular Drugstore
Shroud replied to vean's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Lovin this would go really well next to the others like the firestation etc! -
Unfortunately Ive encountered more crashing when importing large mocs into other mocs where LDD will just shut down. I haven't looked at the error log but the drive was worth getting because moving stuff around is so much easier. Does someone else have an idea on how to stop the crashing? /me wishes for Wire frame mode

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Shroud replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Still on my wish list: 1. Mirror selected objects 2. Wire frame view for use with bigger projects 3. Use your computers GPU? don't think it does right now 4. Proper technic interactivity I know some of this has been mentioned, so just in case its forgotten by now :P -
I used MLCad for a very long time and the moment I switched over I found it more beneficial as the inter connectivity in LDD was awesome. Projects that were taking a while suddenly became easy to finish and you don't have the problem of alignment either. There is a project out there making user able to convert files from one to the other but its still not complete. So my verdict is Both are great I just prefer LDD

Its quite limiting in the preferences and I don't think you can auto hide it to be honest but it wouldn't hurt testing it out. Just an update on that crashing issue I had, I purchased and installed a solid state hard drive and did a fresh install of windows on it. Running LDD from the SSD is heavenly, you can handle large models and when dragging them around there is no lag or chunkiness. I would suggest doing that for any hardcore fan that deals with large mocs.

Hey, Well its been a while but Im back working in LDD again however Ive found the same problem exists like the last one. If im working on complex mocs especially if they have a lot of bricks the program crashs, just pops up saying stuff about creating a dump file and click ok to close. I modified my project to be more modular which has worked a treat but as above its crashing. Also the upgrade from 3 to 4 deleted all the groups so I had do those again. Im running an i7 3ghz with 6 gig ram, gforce GTX 295 Be nice if LDD made use of the GPU (I dont think it does atm?) Was thinking of getting a solid state drive and trying that. Any thoughts?

Bricks convert, how?
Shroud replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You can however use the import/export function of Ldd using a file from this site: http://gallaghersart.com/ It uses Ldraw.xml, still only in beta stages though -
Lego Universe - RIP?
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think if they made the game more of a sandbox where you could free roam through large citys or environments it would be better. Imagine joining with your mates to build a central space station where you could fly space ships around a nearby city or walking giant mechs around. A player driven game where you fight over territory with certain 'sector' rules in place, just take a look at Eveonline, can you imagine free creating any vehicle and flying/driving/walking around in your own creation with little restrictions? My 2 cents.... - Shroud -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I would love a Mirror function! To be able to select a bundle or bricks, hit the button and it creates a copy that's a mirror image. This would be such a great time saver for my big project -
LDRAW.XML missing in LDD4
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I hope so as well! To be honest i was trying to get lxf files into lightwave for rendering in scenes and using your beta xml file with MLcad to do it. Still had a few bugs but was working nicely so I hope you can keep going with it Mike -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes with 1x1 tiles but so far 4 or 5 times with different bricks but i didn't note them down. Each time its happened to a brick that is connected with more bricks and it doesn't colour the sides that are connected with the others. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A note for bug fixes: Something Ive noticed after opening LDD3 LXF's in LDD4 is that if one or a group of pieces does not work or align you need to delete the part and rebuild that section. Ive found this error with simple brick alignment and most notably groups of hinges that refuse to rotate. Another error Ive come across is sometimes the paint bucket will only colour one surface instead of the whole brick.....which is kinda cool but not legal -
Interview with LDD Development Mgr
Shroud replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks Superkalle for doing that interview! Its really good to see that you took the time and connected (pardon the pun) with the development team to give more insight into the future of LDD. P.S. Need a mirror function to create an inverted copy of selected bricks -
Importing LDR to Poser usable file.
Shroud replied to Supa's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I managed to import models into Lightwave from MLcad and they worked fine. Only problem was they were all individual objects and slowed my system down pretty bad -
